Quick Notes: Chapter 293

This is it, everyone. Let's go!

It's great to see Xiaomei introduce us one last time.

It's crazy how little time seems to have passed. Everyone looks pretty similar to the way they did the last couple chapters. Mashima's pretty good about that.

Some people wish we got more lead-in to Shiki and Rebecca's relationship. I get it, but I've seen people say Xiaomei's their kid and Void was their kid, among other things. This was inevitable.

I'm not a fan of Weisz's new hair. It's long enough to tell that he's older, but it feels wrong to see him without spiky hair. Although, he does look like the older professor now...

It's great to see Homura and Valkyrie are on Oedo with good Kurenai. If only we knew where Creed was...

"One plus two makes one million power!!" What a throwback. It's still three, though.

It's good to see everyone else here.

You know, it's good to see that Pino gets to come back because Mother allows her to be reborn. It should feel like a cop-out, but it doesn't.

"And it doesn't matter if you're a human or a machine. Not to my master. Or to my friends on the EDENS ZERO." What a quote to end the series on.

I'm not sure about EZ as a whole just yet, but this might be the best ending to any of Mashima's works.

It's been a pleasure to do this for six years straight. I hope you enjoyed seeing these as much as I've enjoyed making them.

Quick Things of Note 8/2-8/3

Things that have happened on feeds of note that are important:

Phalanx Five= Night one alliance of Reilly/Luke/Matt/Jared/Kirsten, initiated by Kirsten. This alliance is already kind of dead.

Izzy knows Jared is Cirie's son. No one else does.

Reilly/Jag very close relationship as a duo already.

Cirie's plan is to form a Brigade structure of a core four alliance with four satellite allies. So far Felicia and Bowie are likely included in a planned foursome. Kirsten/Mecole were the initial options but the house is collectively turning on Kirsten after she began exposing various convos/alliances and making some conclusions on various alliances that aren't wholly accurate.

Cory is a target for basically everyone in the house.

Jared/Matt/Luke bro alliance

Reilly won HOH, and gets to remove 2/4 nominees from the block.

Felicia has already thrown Kirsten UTB to Reilly.

Quick Notes: Chapter 545.5

Well, here we are again. It's always such a pleasure.

I wasn't planning to do this, but since EZ ended AND I'll likely get asked about it, I might as well bring this back for one more time.

Let's go!

It's crazy to see the request for the Century Quest just out on the job board. I know they can do some S-Class missions post-Tower of Heaven, but that should be kind of hidden.

It's good to see Mashima's seen the error of his ways and given Natsu his scar back. Yes, I'm still not over that after all these years.

It's been a while since we've got this explanation, but I still remember these things. Because, of course.

See? This is why this mission should have been off the regular job board.

Lucy wrote the book, got the award for the book, but it somehow isn't selling it well? This award might be in the spirit of his broke AF son.

Stuff like Levy deciding not to tell Gajeel she's pregnant and Levy telling people before they leave messes with the timeline of this series.

Gray losing every article of clothing in a panel fighting Natsu is the kind of shenanagins I've been missing from EZ.

We get one panel of Lisanna and it takes me three reads to notice it's actually her. Mashima never fails to disappoint.

I guess Ichiya spent time away from his boyfriend Mosco to be here. Hey, Mashima made the Twitter sketch of them kissing. Isn't that how it works, Nalu fans?

It's always good to see the Connells in a panel. Fine. I guess we're even, Mashima.

Part of me is mad that the Jellal trick worked at all. Another part of me thinks this was the funniest joke in the chapter.

Honestly, of all the hiding spots they could pick, Lucy's apartment might be the worst.

"What's Ichiya doing here?!" Thing I said out loud somehow makes it into the chapter a few pages later than I said it. We're all getting older, I guess.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing that Wendy's acting more like the other guild members? I wonder how Irene feels about this...

At first, it was shocking to see Erza in this house. Now, it's shocking to see how messy Natsu's house is. Fanfics have really spoiled me over the past few years.

This brings up an interesting point. The team might have gotten the all-clear for the Century Quest if Natsu could somehow convince Erza to take it.

On second thought, I get why he stole the request.

Listen, the existence of the sequel shows that they had to get permission for the Century Quest.

It's somewhat surreal to see the last panels of the final chapter before seeing the last page of this chapter.

Honestly, this was fun to do again. Don't expect any more of these again.

Quick Notes: Chapter 275

I'm starting to wonder if this series will go over or under 296 chapters. That's how long Rave went for.

"Is this Mother?!!" Ziggy's about a week or two late on this reveal.

It's been some time since we've had to worry about Chronophages. Mother getting eaten by one is quite the twist.

I'm not willing to buy any series of logic that puts Shiki in the driver's seat of this choice. This better work how people think it should or we'll have problems.

The will of the liberal left: make parents for those deeemed unfit.

Not sure what it says that Ziggy made the Shining Stars and the EO made the Dark Stars. We didn't even learn their names... ZIGGY'S ON THE EDENS ONE?!?!?!?

I'm glad we didn't have to see the failed attempts to create the Shining Stars. None of us would be ready.

It's something crazy to know Witch really was his mom. Of course, Shiki is a week or two late on this hitting him. Or not, I don't know.

Quick Things of Note 8/4

Reilly's probably keeping Felicia and Kirsten OTB, with Kirsten as the target.

Hisam let Reilly know about Kirsten's rumor about her and Matt, which has really made Kirsten's target, stick.

Reilly's named the entire house more or less as her allies/possible alliance.

Cirie has determined her core allies will be Izzy/Felicia/Bowie.

Cory's target has shrunk, as while some people don't trust him, Reilly sees benefit in saving him.

Reilly/Jag duo is very close. Lots of chatter about a group of them, Jared, Matt, Blue, with others named at various times to be included (Cory, America, Cameron all mentioned for this).

Luke rapidly losing trust with people.

Cirie had really good talks with Reilly and Blue, winning their trust.

hello!! this is a super random question and you don’t have to answer but how do you keep such a good track of the daredevil show timeline?? all of your fics are so coherent and seem to follow it amazingly well so i’m just wondering if you have any tips for that like it’s so noticeable how well you know the show when i reread trt and i really admire that :p

THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY TO READ CAUSE THE DD TIMELINE IS INSANE, SO THANK YOU. I've spent more than one night tearing my hair out over it and that appears to have paid off! 😂

So I have two things I did in order to really track the Daredevil timeline.

1. In order to reference larger Marvel events along with other Defenders events, I use this timeline by gamesradar which has both the movies and the Defenders shows on a year by year timeline. This gave me a rough idea of gaps between seasons along with when other characters might pop up.

But more importantly,

2. I created my own Daredevil timeline that goes episode by episode. I did this by going through a series rewatch focused specifically on the timeline itself. Every time day shifted into night, I noted it. Matt waking up? That's a new day. Indicator via dialogue that it's been 2 days? Add that gap. Season reference like Ben mentioning in late S1 that it's getting colder (thus a sign that S1 takes place from at least early summer to fall)? That's written down. With this I could roughly track not only how much time passes in each episode, but I also was able to have a general idea of how long the individual seasons last. Doing this allowed me to weave my own plotline in and out of canon and construct a concurrent TRT events timeline in a way that feels like it fits! I even added some sections on Matt's injuries so I could track not just when he's hurt but his heal times. This is in addition to a quicknotes sort of guide I made for each episode so I could quickly double check my references without necessarily having to boot up Dis+. Obviously some canon gets changed in TRT but when I do change things, I make sure the goal of those canon scenes are still met, whether that's clues or foreshadowing.

Now granted, some parts of the canon timeline I quickly discovered are batshit. S2 is supposed to take place in the course of about 2 weeks, for example, which is WAY too fast for that big of a trial, and Matt's healing period in S3 is hilariously short. Those are moments I chose to take a crowbar to and stretch out a bit (in TRT, jury selection for Frank's trial, for example, no longer takes 2 days; now it takes a week, and the trial itself will be a bit longer than in canon), but because I had my timeline of events, I knew there was a long gap after Elektra's death (summer, roughly) and the little bit at the end of S2 where he goes to meet Karen with his mask (I think it's early winter, if I remember my timeline correctly). So that's kinda how I know where I can fiddle with the timeline while still ensuring it all flows coherently and doesn't ram into anything!
