soldier/poet/king - patrick/tashi/art
based on that one quiz i made four years ago. if you're interested, you can click here to read all my thoughts on art being the most king to ever king, tashi being a poet with a strong soldier streak despite contradictory results, and patrick being a self-destructive soldier.

clarifications:
d20 = 20-sided die, d6 = 6-sided die, and so on.
I'm talking about when the highest number on any given dice (e.g. the 20 on a d20) is replaced with an image - whether a logo, a little star, a dragon, anything - and does not say the number on it.
this does not include if the highest number looks different somehow but still says the number. if it's in a different font, that doesn't count, because you can still read the number.
if you're a one-dice-set kind of person who's never looked to buy new dice, answer based on your feelings about your one dice set - would it be better, worse, or neutral if the highest number was a a symbol/image or an actual number?
the 'some' in 'some but not others' here can be any number, including one (e.g. if you like it on d20s but not on any other dice, or on all dice except d20s, this option is for you.)
here's an example image where the highest number on multiple dice is a symbol (and a link to an explanation of dice that includes more images of dice w symbols instead of their highest number)
Tumblr media
originally, I was going to make this specifically d20s vs other dice, but I wanted to include RPG systems that primarily use other dice (e.g. the 'Powered by the Apocalypse' system uses 2 d6 for everything), instead of just DND and others that use d20s as their main dice.

#😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫#short response due tmrw ; seminar presentation potentially tmrw WHICH I ONLY JUST REMEMBERED ; short seminar quiz to do before friday ;#latin club “homework” which im probably gonna tell my friend i cant continue w bc my weekly workload is already too overwhelming w 3 courses#+ i have to have by thrice yearly lunch w my evangelical godmother which means 3 hour convo half dedicated to getting me to abandon judaism#and half to getting me to repent my sinful homosexual ways and go back to being a nice straight girl#all of which is going to happen in public and she WILL tear up at multiple points of the conversation and it WILL be supremely awkward#when people inevitably start eavesdropping bc let's be real if i were at a cafe overhearing this convo i would be listening in too#and everyone's like 'ugh why dont you just tell her to fuck off' but im the only trans person and the only observant jew she has ever met#two groups against which she already has so many preconceived notions so like. idk it feels like my responsibility#as someone who knows her and who she acc cares about (vs a stranger) to try and give her a different perspective on these things ???#like if me being patient and calmly explaining why i transitioned/why i converted can stop her even slightly from sliding even further right#(and like she's Right Wing like covid denial right wing)#and if it might mean the next trans person or whtvr that she interacts with has it slightly easier then like. sure j can sit through#a couple irritating hours every few months#but its just suuuch a shit time for it like im meeting her thursday after class when i have a massive fucking assignment to hand in on sat#which FUCK gotta add that to the list#☞ annotated bibliography due saturday aka friday bc shabbos#okay okay. im done losing my mind in the notes 😵‍💫👍🏻#p.s.

can i ask about your experience as a quaker (or growing up as one? i just saw you mention bein one in some tags)
i jus don't know much about them
so i was not raised quaker, i was raised baptist. which was. 0/10, do not recommend. all the guilt of catholicism with none of the stained glass lmaooo
like, i did resinate with the idea of there being some sort of higher power and i liked the idea of getting together with other believers to discuss spiritual matters but as i got older and started thinking for myself i realized i really didn't like a lot of things about the church. i hated the bigoted beliefs of its members. i hated the emphasis on blind obedience to authority. i didn't believe that the whole literal truth could be found within one book, specifically one group's interpretation of said book. and the idea that people were born inherently bad and sinful and that a supposedly kind and just god would condemn people to eternal suffering just for not believing the "right" things just did not sit well with me at all
when i went off to college i decided to try out a few different churches around town. i ended up settling on a progressive presbyterian church. the community was great and very accepting of queer people. i had some minor qualms with the theology but it wasn't like with my parents' church where every sermon made me feel increasingly nauseous, and i generally felt *good* during and after the services
and then covid hit and while they did stream their sermons, i lost that sense of community and just kinda... fell away
throughout all this i was researching different faiths online, both christian and non-christian. and one faith that kept popping up a lot that i liked the sound of was quakerism. like at one point i remember taking some online quiz of like "what religion do your values most align with" and quakerism was very in the lead. (before this, i'd only really been exposed to quakerism in history textbooks and assumed the religion died out alongside puritanism)
in the end what got me really interested was actually a video by a youtuber i liked, a queer/disability advocate and historical fashion enjoyer who also happened to be quaker
youtube
and after looking more into it, i decided to try attending a quaker meeting. which was easier due to covid cuz i could find a church online (located physically hundreds of miles from me) that did their sunday services over zoom
and so i attended and the people there were great and were doing actual good in their communities. and the way services were run, and their beliefs about what god *was* and all of that just hit me with an intense feeling of like. holy shit this is what i've always wanted from religion.
the video explains the sort of core beliefs and practices of quakerism better than i can but the main belief is that like. every person is godly. as such, it's our job to treat all living people as equally and kindly as possible. additionally, since we all have god inside of us, we need to look inwards and come to our own conclusions about our own religious beliefs and practices (and generally respect other people's religious beliefs even if they differ from our own, so long as they're not causing real tangible harm)
i haven't attended any meetings in a while, due to that group going back to semi in person (they still stream it out but it feels more like being a spectator than a member) and there being no quaker meetinghouses in the tiny town i currently live in, coinciding with me being too depressed to regularly attend anything. but i'm planning to start attending quaker meetings again once i move to a real city

violent devotion.
Everyone seems to think you are faithless, but the thing is you haven’t yet found someone who will bring you to your knees and make you raise your head in reverence. This world has stopped bringing you joy, you want more of the divine.
You want to dedicate your entire existence to someone.
You want to make them realize they are not something terrible; make them see just how much beauty they are bringing to this world. You want to be the only one for them, the only one they have chosen to love. There’s a god shaped pit inside of you and only they can fit in it.
And what if they choose to walk away?
Didn’t I say this was violent devotion?

so over the last month i have watched a playthrough of the entire ace attorney series (including the first three games twice bc i got to the end of T&T and was immediately like. okay so many things have just happened, i need to get a better handle on The Everything before i continue) and even now The Rest Of The Games Later i'm still thinking about how the benefit of context/hindsight makes everything even better right off the bat, even in ways the developers absolutely could not have intended/been thinking about
like. the first time through, the quiz at the beginning of the first case is just part of the tutorial given a light veneer of characterization. however having watched T&T i feel like "your conduct during this trial will determine the fate of your client, please prove that you know what's going on" is actually pretty reasonable to ask a guy you once saw eat a glass necklace to destroy evidence his girlfriend committed the murder he was on trial for. the judge could really have asked more questions actually i'm not sure this pop quiz is really covering all the bases. if anything i think he earned a lot more doubt actually. like yeah okay do you know the name of the victim and the cause of death but more importantly do you know that you cannot eat evidence to try to get your client off the hook
