Rare Adi Photo 📸
I’m just too excited not to share! A super rare pic of Adi that I have never seen before - This is HitIer departing the Reichswehr Ministry Bendlerblock building in Berlin (Reichswehrministerium) after negotiations with Kurt von Schleicher and Franz von Papen regarding his Reich Chancellorship on 13 August 1932. HitIer had demanded the post of Reich Chancellor, but was only offered the post of Vice Chancellor, which he rejected. His uncompromising resolve paid off, and less than 6 months later he was appointed as Reich Chancellor.

David "Chim" Seymour Members of the German Anti-fascist Thälmann Battalion of the International Brigades During the Spanish Civil War 1936
"They had nearly all had military training or had fought in the war (World War I). They were all anti-Nazis. Most of them were Communists and they marched like the Reichswehr. They also sang songs that would break your heart and the last of them died on the Muela of Teruel, which was a position they sold as dearly as any position was sold in any war." Ernest Hemingway, speaking of the members of the Thälmann Battalion.

How to consolidate power: a guide by the SS
➤ this is kind of a part 2 to the development of the SA, but not really, since i never actually spoke about uniforms. i'll be posting an actual pt. 2 to my first post about the history of uniforms later on! anyways, enjoy the information i yapped about in here! :D ────
The SS (Schutzstaffel) was established on April 4th, 1925–an offshoot of the dominant SA (at the time) for the first nine years after its conception. The SA had been the largest wing under the NSDAP, so large that the Führer himself started to fear the power of the SA under Röhm’s leadership. More than three million people were part of the SA and it only continued to grow steadily through the late 30s. Military leaders of the reichswehr, the old German army before the wehrmacht, believed that the SA wanted to consume the reichswehr into the SA and totally annul it’s official standing in the newly NSDAP controlled Germany.
The SA was often thought of as the more radical wing of the NSDAP in the 1930s. Most of its members were unemployed or low-working class citizens who spearheaded the national socialist “revolution” after Germany’s defeat in WWI. It was estimated by Rudolf Diels, the first Gestapo captain, Many of these lower-class workers were probable communists, reaching upwards of 70% percent. The mobilization of the deconstruction of the reichswehr by Röhm had slowly started to take effect, as he considered the old military as a “training-school” for young Germans rather than a true army. In the eyes of many high-ranking NSDAP officers, such as Himmler and Heydrich, Röhm was an economic socialist. The earliest backers of the NSDAP were German magnates and capitalists–the upcoming, power-hungry political party did not want to lose popularity with it’s earliest and important allies.
The relationship between the Führer and Röhm was not a bad one at first; despite Röhm having an array of “skeletons” in his closet. The two men had been each other’s allies, Röhm had specifically supported the Führer in his endeavors to seize power from the crumbling, post WWI German state. As doubt and conflict continued to swirl between the SA and SS, Himmler decided to take action against Röhm, behind the Führer's back.
The plan that Himmler devised was launched and spearheaded by Heydrich, a willing accomplice in Himmler’s plan to dispose of Röhm for good. Heydrich was ordered to write up a falsified case against Röhm, detailing that he was involved in a French plan to overthrow the Führer's power in Germany and consolidate himself as leader of the NSDAP. This scheme cemented the Führer's doubt in Röhm, which promptly led to his arrest.
This removal of high-ranking SA officers came to be known as the Night of the Long Knives, or Nacht der langen Messer. During this night, over an estimated 200 SA officers were captured and arrested, including Röhm himself. Many members of the SA were killed shortly after capture. However, Röhm did not share a similar fate. The Führer pardoned Röhm of his crimes against the NSDAP and forgave him for his “revolutionary ideals.”
Himmler and Heydrich, the two men responsible for kickstarting the purge of the SA vehemently disagreed with the Führer's decision and after much deliberation the Führer agreed. Röhm was given one option, to kill himself. After refusing to do so, he was shot by two SS officers.
The “atrocities” of the Night of the Long Knives shook many German citizens, considering the removal to be almost barbaric. However, Goebbels justified the Führer’s actions by revealing some of Röhm’s skeletons. During a time when homosexuality was frowned upon by most, it was revealed to the public that Röhm was in fact, a homosexual. Interestingly enough, many officers knew of his tendencies and did not bat an eye, save for until he became a problem.

I debated posting this, but did anyone else notice he was wearing a cross?
I found it interesting that Barbatos can wear one as Demons are traditionally harmed by crosses and other religious and ritually purified materials.

Edit 1: Advanced Note: I am far estranged from a racist family. Among them were members of an outlaw biker gang whose members openly wore white supremacist and other racialized hate symbols. I condemn them and all that they stand for. I DO NOT approve of any of their rhetoric or hold interest in spreading any form of racism. I'm anti-racist and dedicated to achieving open communication, peace and equality between all races and sexes.
Other information about this cross's origin reaches much farther into the past and was used among a variety of religions such as Zoroastrianism and Jainism to name a few.
Edit 2: I changed my mind because the first text edit defeated the purpose of mentioning it. I wanted to define the differences between this artist's usage, and go into some brief historical relevance and designs. I did become more interested in learning more so I did some more research and expanded on the first iteration of the post.
Derived from the Templar Cross Pateé it's also used during the Crusades by the Order of Teutonic Knights, and the Schwarzes Kreuz and Eisernes Kreuz historically by the Prussian and German Military. It has deep cultural relevance in military honors and ranking. Its importance was further highlighted by the design being used for a medal awarded to War Heroes during the Napoleonic war by King of Prussia Frederick William III. His wife was the first to receive this medal, posthumously unfortunately :( It was also rewarded during the Franco-Prussian War, World War I and II.
Although he is wearing an iron cross it's as a fashion statement and has no traits in common with hate symbol apart from the form. It's unlikely that the artist intended it for anything more than stylishness.
In universe, since the Devildom is entirely separate from the Human World, I doubt there would be a shared history or political significance associated with it. Among the differences is that his is solid black whereas the cross used by the Reichswehr flags has a complete white outline, and medals bear the appropriated Swastika in the center.

Röhm was the co-founder and leader of the Sturmabteilung (SA), the Nazi Party's original paramilitary wing, which played a significant role in Adolf Hitler's rise to power. He served as chief of the SA from 1931 until his murder in 1934 during the Night of the Long Knives.
In 1923, he took part in Hitler's failed Beer Hall Putsch to seize governmental power in Munich and was given a suspended prison sentence. After a stint as a Reichstag deputy, Röhm broke with Hitler in 1925 over the future direction of the Nazi Party. He resigned from all positions and emigrated to Bolivia, where he served as an advisor to the Bolivian Army.
In 1930, at Hitler's request, Röhm returned to Germany and was officially appointed chief of staff of the SA in 1931. He reorganised the SA, which numbered over a million members, and continued its campaign of political violence against communists, rival political parties, Jews and other groups deemed hostile to the Nazi agenda. At the same time, opposition to Röhm intensified as his homosexuality gradually became public knowledge.
Throughout 1933 and 1934, Röhm's rhetoric became increasingly radical as he called for a "second revolution" that would transform German society, alarming Hitler's powerful industrial allies. He also demanded more power for the SA, which the Reichswehr saw as a growing threat to its position. Hitler came to see his long-time ally as a rival and liability, and made the decision to eliminate him with the assistance of SS leaders Heinrich Himmler and Reinhard Heydrich.
On 30 June 1934, the entire SA leadership were purged by the SS during an event known as the Night of the Long Knives. Röhm was taken to Stadelheim Prison and shot on 1 July.

Matthias Otto Brückner was born on July 7, 1914 in Munich, into a loving family. His father, Jacob, a soldier in the Reichswehr, died in 1924 in an assassination attempt by communist opponents. His mother, Katharina, was left to raise Matthias alone. Dieter Lehner, Jacob's brother, interfered in their lives after Jacob's death, and with the help of his growing influence in the Nazi regime, adopted Matthias against Katharina's wishes, sending her to a psychiatric hospital.
Matthias Brückner became Matthias Lehner, raised in a military environment where he was pushed to embrace Nazi ideals. Dieter, who rose through the ranks to become a Major in the Gestapo, tried to enforce Matthias' discipline, often with brutal methods. Over the years, Matthias is integrated into the Hitler Youth and then into the SS-Junkerschule, where he receives military training.
In 1940, Matthias reaches the rank of Obersturmführer, but his heart is divided. He feels trapped in a life he did not choose. After a series of traumas and confrontations with Dieter, Matthias is driven to revolt. One day, he tries to kill Dieter, but fails. Dieter, realizing his nephew's betrayal, suppresses this attempt, but does not immediately expose him.
Following tragic events, Matthias ends up killing Dieter in a fit of rage with his P08 luger while his uncle was taking a bath. He then decides to flee with his mother, Katharina, whom he finds in the psychiatric hospital. They find refuge with a friend, Karl. But Matthias is eventually captured by the Gestapo, wounded in the leg by a bullet, while he tries to flee by train with his mother. His mother stays on the train at Matthias' request while he is taken away.
Questioned by a colonel, Matthias confesses to having killed Dieter, which results in a death sentence for treason to the Reich. He attends his symbolic trial whose sentence had already been decided. The tension between his past and his choices leads him to a public execution, leaving his tragic fate sealed.

'Ruhrkampf' Barthel Gilles, 1930
"...The Ruhr Uprising was a brief uprising by part of the German left—Communist Party of Germany (KPD), Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD), and Communist Workers' Party of Germany (KAPD)—to defeat the putsch of the extreme right and part of the right of March 13, 1920. On April 2, 1920, Reichswehr units invaded the Ruhr and the communist uprising ended in the North. 150 to 300 socialist supporters were killed, searches, mass arrests and death sentences by German courts-martial followed... On April 12, the fighting ended. In total more than 2,000 socialist/communist supporters and 273 German soldiers (including paramilitary) were killed during the uprising..."
