I built a miniature Va11 Hall-A Bar inside of my PC!!
Va11 Hall-A PC Parts & Build list
PC:
CPU : Intel I9 14900k
GPU: Intel Arc A770 16gb
Ram: Corsair Dominator 64gb 5600
Mobo: Maxsun Terminator Z790 D5 wifi
Hard drives M.2: Samsung 990 pro 2tb, Samsung 970 evo plus 1tb, CT 1tb, Adata 500gb
PSU: ROG Thor 850 P2
Cables: Cablemod.com custom shortened and sleeved
Water loop distro : EKWB FLT 120 reservoir + D5 pump
Water loop cpu block: ThermalTake Pacific Mx2 Ultra
Water loop radiators: Alphacool HPE 20 x 2
Water loop hardware: 15 Alphacool, 3 EKWB, 2 Alphacool soft, 2 granzon
Water loop tubes: EKWB Acrylic tube 14mm, Alphacool 13/10 soft
Air Cooling : ThermalTake Toughfan 120mm x 3 + Controller
Air Cooling : Noctua 40mm pwm server fan x 2 (non visible)
Additional RGB Control : Coolermaster controller
Case:
Lian Li PC V600, left side mount, released in 2006, I acquired it in 2015 from PC Recycle in sodo Seattle.
I had to track down a new foot, one had been missing since I acquired the case (ebay)
Mods:These are the case mods I did personally
Cut a hole for the cpu mounts in the Motherboard mount plate as this case was designed for older hardware
Cut two 120mm blowholes and added aluminum covers (Dremel)
Cut Front and rear windows into side panels (Dremel Max)
Moved PSU from vertical placement in the lower right side of the case in front of the CPU to horizontal placement in the top left in old drive bays.
The PSU bracket had to be cut to show the OLED on the side.
Modded the side panel rail slide to accommodate the PSU, I used the original aluminum stand the psu was on, cut in half and epoxied with JB weld.
Changed and moved Power/ Reset switch to the back of the case, shortened and spliced the cable
I cut and bent my own 14mm acrylic tubes (hobby miter, heat gun).
Cut and made two way mirror for the front panel
Plastic "truss" is both functional and aesthetic. It came from a Gunpla accessory kit and has two cables passing through it and it acts as the GPU support. I could only get red and had to paint it.
Notice that some logos are missing/ covered, I dislike having a case as an advertisement. The Rog eye on the PSU is mostly covered but iykyk, most of the word "Intel" on the ARC GPU, Two of the Thermaltake logos on the fan edges, the Paint on the Thermaltake Mx2 Ultra and Maxsun terminator heatsink. (I will eventually cover the visible SSD with a heat sink, cover the fan info on the rear and work a cover for the word "dominator"). the one logo explicitly unchanged is the LianLi case badge, if I think of a perfect replacement, maybe then.
Mod I did not do:
I did NOT shorten and sleeve my own cables, I used cable-mod.com. I am not confident in my ability to do this.
BAR:
"Bar Tiny" Re-ment sets from Japan, 17 sets involved.
I customized the color of the bar and chairs and shortened one table for the mezzanine. The whole bar, minus barback- is on a removable 7 inch piece of black acrylic for cleaning.
Jill Stingray Nendoroid
Jils Cat, it sleeps on the GPU
Jill Stool: Jill is glued to a cute doll stool to see over the bar
Jill Accessories non-Nendoroid: cellphone, purse, coat (ebay)
Dorothy Haze Nendoroid
will be added on release.
Bar Back:I made this myself
Black acrylic sheet, and frosted acrylic rods.
Doll Light power kit: 8 Led lights, 4 incandescent lights
USB Doll light power strip
Other Bar Accessories:
Overhead Hanging farmhouse light
trash, mop, broom, pan, mop bucket,
2 blue fuzzy chairs
Miniature plants
Miniature Microphone
Mini bottle Dom Perignon, an xmas gift from my friend nemo, it's
on the top shelf
Problems and changes:
1. ARGB, pretty pretty pain in the ass. 4 pieces of software........
2. The water loop was changed extensively as hardware came in and space limitations were discovered. The biggest change is that I originally planned to have one radiator on the front of the case, the tubes running over Jills head and to light the tubes as lighting for the bar, to do this the fan would have been in the case proper pushing the whole bar to far into the mobo, it didn't work, so the loop was moved to the top of the case and caused me to have one complex bent tube
Second, I had planned the loop to use one sideport on the distro, but space limitation moved both ports to the top causing the complex fittings setup in that corner.
3. The MOBO, sigh. This has been clearly the most challenging choice I made in this build, I really wanted it to work perfectly too, but I rolled those dice because: Aesthetic+function, the board I wanted (https://en.colorful.cn/en/home/product?mid=84&id=400d19bc-5655-49e1-b391-df00b60935ef) was to great a risk for the cost. This was a silver medal.
I generally dislike the design options I had in the Z790 series of the big board makers (I HATE big logos), especially the full ATX, there was one M that interested me, I should have picked it . This board has potential, but the BIOS is underdeveloped and compatibility has been problematic, I had to do a tricky outdated style BIOS update right from the box, and have had to reset the cmos a couple times. It skips BIOS on general boot and though stable, it will have to be addressed eventually, it doesn't have a proper sleep because of some issue between uefi & legacy. It may end up replaced, which will require a full build teardown.
the Turbo fan built into the board doesn't seem to function
Alos, the two argb connections on the mobo dont work, or I can't get them to recognize anything, necessitating the Coolermaster controller for the PSU and Distro. it is shoved behind the distro along with a Noctua 40mm

Still more applied fork theory:
Problem: Sitting at a computer is Bad For Me for a variety of reasons, including back problems caused by arthritis/EDS/scoliosis, clotting risk caused by genetic clotting disorder, fatigue caused by ME/CFS. Also I have migraines and sensory issues and really need to control the light around me.
Solution: Instead of using a chair/desk setup, I use the following:
A twin XL adjustable bed (I got mine from Amazon but the quality has been so-so, I ended up needing to prop part of it up on jack stands because the legs were not Up To The Task. The motor is good? IDK, shop around.)
With a cheap extra firm memory foam mattress
a softer memory foam topper (very cheap: I ordered a queen and cut it into 2 pieces, one for my wheelchair and one for the bed)
Tencel bedsheets (sensory GOOD, Brielle are not terribly expensive)
1 overstuffed memory foam bits pillow that came with the mattress covered with a dark colored tencel pillowcase goes under the mouse hand
2 squishmallows, one under my knees and one that goes between me and the bedrail to support my elbow (the big ones from costco)
A squishy memory foam travel U-shaped pillow for my neck to keep it well aligned (cheap cheap cheap)
And a bedrail that straps around the bedframe to hold it in place.
My kids mounted a rail system to the ceiling and we hung blackout curtains from it, so I can shut out all external light if need be. This was surprisingly inexpensive.
In the winter, I use one of those big old fake sheepskin rugs from costco under my head and shoulders for cozy. And sometimes an electric blanket.
The room is air conditioned with a window air conditioner, and I have a remote
There is an air filter running 24/7 in this room because I spend so much time here and am allergic to my cats who I love very much.
This bed is next to the wall, daybed style. The computer setup is as follows:
A desktop computer on a shelf. I built the computer in a dark case with no RGB parts and did not plug in the LED front panel sensors.
A monitor on a monitor arm.
A metal shelf that mounts between the monitor and the monitor arm that I attached my speakers and webcam to.
Another shelf above it for miscellany.
A little basket over my shoulder for sundries
A gooseneck clamp for my phone mounted to the shelf (I have one of these upstairs mounted to my headboard, too. They're very easy to move the clamp, very secure, and sturdy as heck.)
A Logitech k360 wireless keyboard rests on my belly (and sometimes on a pillow on my belly if my wrists are being tetchy)
I use a vertical mouse (sometimes Jellycomb, currently this one) on the stiff pillow next to me. The wrist position is extremely neutral. I set my mouse sensitivity to high so I don't have to move my wrist very much.
I use Edifier noise canceling headphones when I need to block out extraneous sound
creative pebbles speakers and a Logitech c920 webcam, but that's not mission critical
To make it easier to turn my computer on and off, I got a magnetic button to stick to the side of the case so I can reach better from the bed.
This puts my whole body in a neutral, optimal circulation position where the monitor is well aligned to my head and neck and my hands and wrists are aligned and supported and I need to expend minimal energy when at the computer. Everything is close at hand and I can easily control my environment for light, temperature and sound. I raise the knees and head of the bed to a "zero g" position and use the squishmallows and pillows to further support things as needed. The wireless keyboard and mouse are very helpful.
For me, the logitech k360 is a combination of lightweight, relatively small while still being "full size", light touch, and "soft clicky" as well as widely available and cheap as fuck. It's also pretty resilient to being dropped or spilled on, and if it does break, it's cheap and fast to replace at a nearby store same-day. Preferences for keyboards are highly individual, this one just works very well for me. When my hands and shoulders were bad due to RA, I got two of them and (using both dongles plugged into separate USB ports) put one under each hand in the most neutral positions possible for a cheap-ass version of a split keyboard. Two of these are half the cost of most split keyboards.

This pic is from before we put up the blackout curtains. Yes, that's the fridge behind my head.

Creative Ways to Use Decorative LED Lights for Home Décor
Decorative LED lights are a game-changer for home décor, offering the perfect balance of style, functionality, and energy efficiency. Whether you're looking to create a cozy nook, highlight architectural details, or elevate the ambiance of a room, these lights have endless potential. Among the many options available, decorative LED lights for ceiling stand out as a popular choice for transforming plain spaces into stunning visual displays.
This blog will inspire you with creative ways to use decorative LED lights in your home. From ceilings to walls and everything in between, we'll explore ideas that combine aesthetics with practicality. By the end of this guide, you'll be ready to experiment and make your home shine like never before.
Why Choose Decorative LED Lights?
Before we jump into specific ideas, let's understand why LED lights make an excellent choice for home décor:
Energy Efficiency LED lights consume significantly less energy compared to traditional lighting, making them an eco-friendly and cost-effective option.
Versatility From simple strips to intricate designs, LED lights come in various forms to suit every décor style.
Longevity With a longer lifespan than traditional bulbs, you can enjoy the beauty of LED decorative light fixtures for years without frequent replacements.
Customizable Options Many decorative LED lights offer adjustable brightness, colors, and modes, allowing you to tailor the ambiance to match your mood or occasion.
Now, let's explore how to use decorative LED lights for ceiling and other parts of your home to make it truly dazzling.
1. Add Drama with Ceiling LED Light Designs
Recessed Ceiling Lights
Recessed decorative LED lights for ceiling are an elegant way to achieve subtle, modern lighting. These lights are installed directly into the ceiling for a sleek and clean look. Use them to illuminate large spaces like the living room or kitchen while ensuring even light distribution.
Cove Lighting for a Glowing Effect
Cove lighting involves placing LED strips in recessed areas near the ceilings, such as crown molding or tray ceilings. The resultant soft glow creates a sophisticated atmosphere, ideal for bedrooms or dining areas.
Starry Night Ceilings
Turn your bedroom or home theater into a celestial haven by using tiny LED lights in the ceiling to mimic stars. You can pair white lights with twinkling functions for an authentic night sky effect.
Chandelier-style LED Installations
Why stick to traditional chandeliers when you can opt for a modern LED version? A chandelier comprising decorative LED lights gives your ceiling a striking centerpiece that's both functional and stylish.
2. Highlight Architectural Details
Use LED lights to highlight unique architectural elements within your home.
Accent Beams
If you have exposed wooden or metal beams, install LED lights along the edges for an industrial yet warm look. The blended light draws attention to the beams while adding depth to the room.
Ceiling Panels
For an ultra-modern touch, integrate colored or white LED lights into geometric ceiling panels. This effect is particularly stunning in contemporary kitchens and offices.
3. Transform Walls with LED Lighting
While ceilings often steal the spotlight, walls are just as important in home décor. Incorporate led decorative light fixtures to add dimension to your living spaces.
Wall Sconces
LED wall sconces come in artistic shapes and offer ambient lighting that's both functional and decorative. Place them in hallways, living rooms, or by your bed for a cozy vibe.
Backlit Wall Art
Make wall art or photographs more captivating by adding backlit LED strips. This approach emphasizes the details in your artwork while creating a focal point in the room.
Color Changing Wall Panels
For a bold and dynamic look, install wall panels equipped with RGB LED lights. These panels allow you to switch between a wide range of colors, making them perfect for entertainment areas or game rooms.
4. Brighten Up Kitchens and Bathrooms
Functional spaces like kitchens and bathrooms often rely on practical over aesthetic lighting. However, decorative LED lights can strike the right balance between the two.
Under-cabinet Lighting
Install LED strips under upper cabinets to illuminate countertops. Not only does this enhance visibility for cooking, but it also lends sophistication to your kitchen.
Mirror Backlighting
Add backlit decorative LED lights behind bathroom mirrors for a spa-like effect. This creates a soft, flattering glow perfect for your morning routines.
Suspended Ceiling Lights
For kitchens with high ceilings, use LED pendant lights for task lighting and as a statement piece over islands or dining tables.
5. Elevate Outdoor Spaces with Decorative LEDs
Your home’s exterior deserves just as much attention as its interior. Outdoor LED lighting adds charm and functionality to decks, patios, and gardens.
Pathway Lights
Use durable, water-resistant LED lights to outline walkways or garden paths. This makes outdoor areas safer while adding a magical glow.
Pergola Lighting
Decorative LED lights installed in pergola roofs create a cozy setting for outdoor dinners or lounging. Opt for warm white or soft-colored lighting for a relaxed vibe.
Fairy Light Curtains
For balconies or porches, drape LED fairy light curtains along railings or walls. These lights are a poetic touch for evenings and festive celebrations.
6. Experiment with Decorative LED Light Features
When it comes to customization, decorative LED lights give you endless possibilities.
Smart LED Systems
Smart lighting systems offer app-controlled lights that can change color, dim, and respond to voice commands. They’re perfect for adding futuristic vibes to living rooms or entertainment setups.
Dynamic RGB Strips
RGB LED lights can transform spaces with vibrant colors. Use dynamic, color-changing strips under beds, sofas, or shelves for an attention-grabbing look.
Music-Reactive Lights
LED lights with sound-sync technology respond to the beat of the music, making them a must-have for home parties or gaming setups.
Final Thoughts
Decorative LED lights offer an incredible way to personalize and beautify your home. From subtle recessed ceiling lights to bold color-changing wall panels, the opportunities are endless. By incorporating the ideas shared above, you can create a space that reflects your style and enhances your daily life.
Whether you’re designing a cozy reading nook, a luxurious bathroom, or a dazzling outdoor escape, decorative LED lights for the ceiling, walls, and more can make all the difference. Start experimenting with LED lighting today and watch as your home transforms into a luminous masterpiece!

I impulse-purchased a few LED boards from a surplus operation recently, and I'm not sure if it was a good idea or not.

Each unit is a WS2812B, which are pretty common addressable LEDs. You can hook power and ground to the board and use one wire from a microcontroller to set any of the 56 lights to a different RGB color, letting you make colored lights or animations easily; each LED hooks to the next and you just wire them together to make long strings or panels. This particular board has four pins on the back, which made me hopeful that they were for power, ground, input, and output.
Well, unfortunately, testing turned up that the output isn't in that pin header. If I want to daisy-chain these I'd need to solder an extra wire onto the far right end — there's a tiny copper pad, at least, so I wouldn't need to wire directly onto the chip — to plug in the next panel. Now, microcontrollers generally have more than one output pin, so it's also pretty straightforward to wire a few of these in parallel instead of in series, but it's more of a hassle than just changing the number of LEDs in your string.
Unfortunately I kind of got these without a specific use in mind, so I'm not sure what they'll go into. These are the dangers.
#diy#electronics#i didn't get all that many either#not sure what particular use a roughly 15x19 display would be

Creating Immersive Pixel Art Displays for Live Events
Ever walked into a concert venue and felt like the visuals were alive—rippling in time with the beat or changing colors as the crowd moved? That’s the magic of an immersive pixel art display: a dynamic canvas built from thousands of little LED pixels that react, evolve, and invite interaction. In this post, we’ll explore how LED pixel displays are transforming pixel art live events, and how you can design an installation that feels both mesmerizing and meaningful.
What Is an LED Pixel Display?
An LED pixel display is made of individual light modules—think tiny RGB LEDs arranged in grids or strips. Each LED can change color and brightness independently, forming a pixel. When animated cohesively, these pixels form moving images, text, or abstract stories that dance across a stage or backdrop. For designers, the challenge is to turn static visuals into interactive pixel art that responds to sound cues, audience movement, or timecode, creating a fully immersive experience.

Why Pixel Art Displays Captivate Audiences
High Visual Impact Pixel arrays can render bold graphics and motion visuals that would be impossible with static sets.
Customization & Interactivity Integrate sensors or music triggers so the art reacts in real time—light pulses synced to bass drops, or waves that follow the crowd.
Versatility From linear LED strips to massive wall-mounted grids, pixel art displays can fit stages, domes, trusses—or even handheld gear.
Building Blocks of an Immersive Pixel Art Display
LED Pixel Modules & Pitch
Pixel pitch refers to the distance between center points of LEDs: smaller pitch (~4 mm) gives crisp, sharp images; larger pitches (>10 mm) are ideal for long-throw setups.
Choose modules rated for outdoor use (IP65+) for durability at outdoor live events or festivals.
Controllers & Protocols
Controllers drive animations via WS2812, SK6812, or DMX protocols. These bridge the gap between creative content and hardware. A reliable pixel controller can come from a reputable professional shop—ensuring quality performance and continued tech support.
Power & Signal Management
LEDs need steady power—usually 5 V or 12 V—so calculate amps per segment and add power injection points.
Extend signal using buffers or data repeaters to maintain sync across your entire display.
Designing the Content
Concept & Storyboarding
Start with a visual concept—synth-wave animation, audio-reactive waves, or VR-integrated graphics. Sketch storyboards and run test animations in software like TouchDesigner or Processing.

Mapping Your Grid
Accurate grid mapping—drawing each pixel's real-life position in your software setup—is critical. Even a small offset can skew the entire display.
Audio-Visual Integration
Link visuals to music using MIDI, OSC, or SMPTE timecode so the animation responds seamlessly to every beat, vocal cue, or lighting change.
Rigging & Setup Tips
Modular Structure Build your display from panels or strips that connect easily on-site. This makes installation smooth and maintenance easier.
Cable OrganizationLabel data and power lines. Use Velcro or cable ties to keep everything neat and trip hazards at bay.
Testing & CalibrationAlways do a full tech rehearsal. Look for dead or dim pixels, color shifts, or lag between triggers and playback.
Real-World Use Case
Take a mid-sized festival: festival-goers wear LED wristbands that light up with crowd cheers, while a massive pixel art wall echoes those patterns behind the stage. The result: a unified, reactive stage design that visually bonds the audience to the performance.
Best Practices for Success
Plan for failure: keep spare strips, controllers, and power supplies on hand.
Use compression-friendly content: looped animations or GIF-style visuals keep playback smooth.
Label everything: from IP addresses on networked controllers to physical cable runs, clarity speeds up setup and troubleshooting.
Document your setup: a labeled wiring diagram helps future iterations go faster and safer.
Final Thoughts
The future of pixel art live events is bright—literally. LED pixel displays let you build immersive, interactive shows that stand out and resonate deeply. Whether it’s a club, concert hall, or outdoor festival, these displays combine creative design with technical precision to deliver truly memorable experiences.
When you're ready to source your LED strips, controllers, and power gear, working with a reputable professional shop ensures hardware reliability and the kind of expert advice that helps you push creative boundaries—and deliver shows that truly shine.
With careful planning, thoughtful design, and thorough testing, you're on your way to creating spectacular pixel-powered experiences that wow crowds and elevate your production game.

Ceiling Design Hacks: How Flexible Profile Lights Transform Any Room Instantly
Intro: When you think of room makeovers, your first thought might be the furniture or the wall paint—but have you ever looked up? Ceilings are one of the most underutilized design elements in any space. With the right lighting techniques, especially using a flexible profile light paired with a cove light false ceiling, you can instantly elevate the vibe and style of your interiors. This beginner-friendly guide explores practical design hacks and lighting ide s that will help you turn your flat ceiling into a glowing architectural feature.

Section 1: Understanding Flexible Profile Lights
Subtitle: A New Age Lighting Tool for Modern Homes
A flexible profile light is a type of LED lighting fixture enclosed within a bendable housing—usually aluminum or silicone—that allows the light to curve along architectural lines, corners, or shapes. These lights are designed for seamless installation along ceilings, walls, or even floors.
Unlike traditional LED strips, flexible profile lights include diffusers that ensure an even, dot-free glow. This makes them perfect for ambient lighting where aesthetics and mood matter most.
Key Benefits:
Easily adaptable to any ceiling shape
Smooth, uniform lighting
Works well in both residential and commercial spaces
Compatible with dimming, RGB color control, and automation
In short, flexible profile lights bring your design ideas to life—no matter how creative or unconventional they may be.
Section 2: What Makes Cove Light False Ceilings So Popular?
Subtitle: Soft Glow, Big Impact
A cove light false ceiling is a layered or recessed ceiling design that incorporates hidden lighting to create soft, indirect illumination. These ceilings are especially popular in luxury interiors because they provide a clean, polished look without visible light fixtures.
What makes them even more effective is pairing them with flexible profile lights. The flexibility of the lighting complements the structure of a cove ceiling by filling every curve and recess with gentle, beautiful light.
Why They Work Together:
Flexible LEDs fit seamlessly into curves or corners
Light is diffused evenly across the ceiling plane
Offers a modern, minimal, and elegant appearance
Enhances architectural features without being overpowering
Section 3: Ceiling Design Hacks with Flexible Profile Lights
Subtitle: Simple Changes, Stunning Results
Here are some easy-to-implement hacks using flexible profile light and cove light false ceiling designs that can make a big impact on your interiors.
1. The Floating Ceiling Illusion
Install a cove light false ceiling with hidden flexible LED profiles along the perimeter. The result? A “floating” ceiling that visually lifts the room and adds depth. Perfect for bedrooms and living rooms.
2. Wraparound Corners
Use flexible profiles to extend lighting around ceiling corners. It adds continuity and softens the rigid geometry of a room, making it feel more organic and inviting.
3. Backlit Center Panels
Place flexible LED lighting behind a central recessed ceiling panel to create a backlit “island.” This is a fantastic feature for dining areas or home offices.
4. Wave and Curve Designs
