I watched Thunderbolts…

There is so much I could say, but mostly I just want to say thank you… I’ve missed my Marvel days… this universe has been there on many very bad days when I needed it & this fandom has meant so much to me throughout my lifetime; but this movie was the first one in a while that felt like that which I loved & missed so much. Like not only the artistry, creativity, & magic of artists in their element; ideas inspiring ideas (Florence doing her own stunts🤩) & switching from CGI to realises just cause. And the amount of thought into the details (giving plenty to nerd out over and squeal about in fangirl as we inevitably rewatch), even the costuming grew on me (it made sense for the characters). But also being a new story with a life of its own (not a remake or “cookie cutter best seller”) nor cut off from that of before, more like something that was meant to happen and be the next step.

And help me take those next steps in my own life, grief, ptsd, and therapy journey (as fictional stories are a great way to live it out).

The mental health & grief representation was so excruciatingly well-done… at times so painful to watch I almost thought they went too far, but at the end of the day I think it was the grit they needed. It is messy & imperfect, and painful & raw, but real… very real. (While still having the wit, humor, levity, depth, & range of emotions Marvel is known to write so well) and bringing it in the midst of well-choreographed fight scenes, character arcs, flawed heroes & heroic villains.

And of course, the stand out (to surprise no one as Yelena has always been a favorite for me and positive representation) but this brought it to another level… the way they did grief representation, ptsd, guilt & shame & regret, depression & mental illness… all the way to found family. Friends becoming a part of something more. It had all the big, hard feelings. And she was the hero I needed today & going forward.

Not to mention some great Bucky Barnes moments (that answered more of the questions I've been asking about him in politics😂). A new fan favorite in Bob! Some possible ships, and definite FRIENDships. More time with Ava. Some fantastic quote (not to mention FOUR ;-) looking forward to as we go forward! And what I'm sure is going to be some great easter eggs to read up on!

They had to kill off Taskmaster in the first 20 minutes bc otherwise they couldn't have reasonably pitched the whole "sentry is stronger than all the avengers combined", since taskmaster literally has all the powers of all the avengers combined and probably amplified. If taskmaster hadn't died, collecting Bob would be pointless if Valentina could get taskmaster instead

was looking around the assets for taskmaster vr in asset studio when i found out that it has sfx for the greg and alex puppets kissing ??? and not only that , there's 9 AUDIO FILES FOR THE SFX ???????

the first 3 are relatively normal , simple smooches , but the last 6 has moaning ???? who decided to add this

I saw Thunderbolts. It was good and a fun time, but I wish they hadn't killed Taskmaster so quickly (why couldn't it have been Walker? Fingers crossed he dies in the next one.), or that they'd spent a little more time on Yelena's reaction to it. She did stand up for her, saying "don't talk about her like that" and kind of berating the others for stealing the weapons off her body, but in Black Widow, Yelena had a lot to say about Natasha "killing" Dreykov's daughter and then Natasha almost died saving her, and since a big part of this movie was feeling like you're a shitty person because you've done shitty things, I think we could've spent a little more time on her, her death, and the effect it should've had on Yelena. And! I would've liked to see her fight Sentry. That would've been cool. Does she still mimic people now that she's free? We'll never know, and that's sad.

Also, there were so many nods to the Avengers (they're in the Avengers building for fuck's sake), and I think having a character who fights like all of them would've been a good addition to that.

But! a rapid-fire list of things I liked:

Yelena (my beloved. my aroace queen. also her eyeliner was perfect.)

Bucky (my disaster of a man.) (why is he in congress? who voted for him? why did he run? none of these questions will ever be answered. no one involved in this movie even considered asking them. but! he still looks good as hell, especially on a motorcycle and/or while knife-fighting)

Bob (he's adorable. I hope at some point he gets to resolve the dark and light sides of himself, but I like where they left him (not blonde))

The fact that Bob can't defeat his dark side by punching it; the thing that frees them all from the darkness is being together. (It is criminal that the end-credit scene was not a clip of Bucky explaining to Sam that he defeated the darkness taking over New York by hugging a dude named Bob. If there is not some kind of joke about that at some point, then I'm not really sure what the MCU thinks it's doing. (I am actually not sure that the MCU knows what it's doing, but that's a different post.))

"The New Avengers and Bob will return." The whole theater laughed at the appearance of "and Bob." It was a good joke. But is he not part of the team? He can't fly now, but he did the dishes!

The elevator scene.

Yelena walking into the darkness, presumably knowing that it wouldn't kill her because it was Bob, and Bob is, at heart, a sweet little puppy.

Bob calling John an asshole to his face.

Surprisingly, Alexi. He's definitely the comic relief character, but I love the way he cares about Yelena, even though he's not always great at showing her that.
