Ashborn

Very noticeable. She is much less sporadic with her actions and words, being more careful with what they say and do since they tend to be impulsive without regard for others feelings, so when around someone they love, Ash will be more gentle with their words and appear way more enthralled in the conversation she has with them. It all in her eyes, Ashborn can’t hide how infatuated she is from the start. This is what makes them one of the healthier romance options.

Constantin

Constantin isn’t obvious, in the way he has no clue what he’s feeling, just a shocking realisation that they managed to make him feel pleasant in his desensitised state. The more notable things that change are the fact he becomes a little less tense and tries to speak more with them, makes an effort to seek them out just to continue feeling genuine happiness with them, and as much as he’ll hate to admit it, he immediately goes back to feeling a dull numbness when they’re not around… probably why he makes them a lot of bone trinkets. Overall, Constantin just gives off a more peaceful presence when around them. 

Crowley

He’s either going to be more loved or very hated with this one. At the first sign of him falling in love, Crow becomes a brick wall of emotions before bolting. He’s noticeable, in the sense he treats them like a giant asshole to push them away, nasty words, threatening to eat them, and being a pessimistic idiot to create distance. At the end of the day, Crow has to hope that’s enough, he needs love too much to avoid them forever.

Eden

Oh sweet snake lady, she’s so obvious when in love. Eden will be enthralled by them, constantly start up conversations only to fluster herself and duck behind whatever furniture is closest, recommend books they might enjoy or even randomly give them baked goodies, she won’t try to hide it, but she will be hesitant to admit it. Having Fern makes her want to confirm one thing before she acts on her feelings, and it’s making sure they understand being with her means watching over Fern. At the end of the day, Eden is a mother that puts her daughter before herself. 

Heka

Heka isn’t noticeable… sort of. Our dear devil is extremely well versed in hiding his thoughts and emotions, it’s easy when he’s a sweetheart to absolutely everybody. While it wouldn’t be completely clear just by looking at him, he would be one-hundred percent honest about it if asked. It’s not that Heka is trying to hide it, more hesitates to act on it. He needs a certain level of certainty before he’ll convince himself to open up a little, but when he does, Heka is more genuine and affectionate with them, if a little mischief. He does enjoy teasing his loved ones. 

Rowan

Rowan has perfected the craft of hiding their feelings, especially in matters of love, and if caught, they’ll deny it. The only sign of Rowan being in love, is how quick they are to contradict their own words. They say to stay away, yet seek them out themself. They’d say they like being alone, then run to find and hold their complete attention. They don’t make things easy for themself, desperately wanting to love but putting on a front that says otherwise.

Sonja

One of the tougher romance options, Sonja falls in love fast and hard, but she also keeps it to herself. She won’t make it obvious outside of longing stares, subconsciously seeking them out for conversation and to know they’re safe and sound. Even Sonja has a boiling point and when she reaches it, she’ll be screaming how much she loves them to the whole damn town. She has such a big heart and is so afraid to use it.

How could she not? Tall, hourglass-shaped body & a face that makes you lose your breath. As a woman of many names & faces,  trying to figure out what goes on in that pretty little head of hers is a futile task. For those not familiar with her,  it's quite the challenge to discern whether she likes you,  hates you or simply tolerates you. Her demeanour is a constant pull between being friendly & seeming as though she couldn't care less about you. At first glance,  Milou Mingate is the picturesque cliché of an arrogant rich kid  ⸺  a brat too spoiled for her own good. Her pragmatic words are often laced with a heavy dose of sarcasm,  the woman's lack of genuine consideration acting as a deterrant for those around her. Truth be told,  Milou is scared.  Terrified of what lay beyond,  how could she let another know her when she barely knows herself?  Alas,  those who dare to take a leap of faith will be greatly rewarded. Behind the pessimistic extrovert's mask lay a woman full of love for those around her. Passionate. Impusilve. Unfettered.  Despite what she presents herself as,  Mingate sustains herself on the thrills of life. CÉDRIC ARMAND LACROIX. ⠀ thoughts and prayers for poor ceddy bear, everyone !  when he says she is the bane of his existence,  he has every right to say so and i will defend him in a court of law on this. for any true rivalry going on between them,  it's rather one-sided on c's side. milou doesn't truly hate them,  not even really dislike them. however,  she's getting an absolute piss out of getting them riled up and has so for years now. truly surprised they haven't suffered an aneurysm yet.  they're also taking second place as far as ROs go. who would have thought!

VANCE KASPER NÆSHOLM. ⠀ bro truly pissed off the wrong woman on their first day at yale...  of course,  milou is pretty pissed following their attempted murder,  but that is not why V is gonna be in for one hell of a ride. oh no.  she's rather quick to  'forgive'  them. milou does hold a slight grudge for a few days,  but that dissipates rather quickly.  she's also a little shit though,  taking advantage of the fact that V is still rather skittish around her at first. playing the hot & cold game,  though milou isn't overtly mean. it's more about the anticipation,  leaving them hanging & wondering whether she hates them or not. however,  given they haven't decided they're better off without milou  (V babe you absolutely would be please save urself before its too late),  they'll eventually reach a point at which milou will assure them that no. she does not hate them. yes. they are friends. yes. they are now legally obliged to be her partner in crime and get dragged into her bullshit.

Okay, so a lot of the Nytherian characters got their names from fanatasynamegenerators.com , so I’m not completely confident on how they are supposed to be pronounced, but I can tell you how I pronounce them. The other names I completely made up and do know how to pronounce. All in all, I don’t mind how you guys pronounce their names. (I added surnames too, even though they don’t come up often in the book.)

Dev Log 5

By goodness, it’s been a while since I could just sit down and post about any progression. Life is still keeping me busy thanks to personal matters. However, I’ve been chipping away and doing stuff when I can. I’ve been more or less creating stuff here and there that I can post, though most of the free time I managed to get went into writing and completing tasks. 

Finally have some time to get a dev log written out, I’m hoping to update everybody on what I’ve been up to and have planned since my radio silence (and here’s to hoping the next dev log isn’t forever away…)

One of the bigger changes I’ve planned is turning Evenfall Grove into a Choicescript game rather then Twine. This decision was made to help shorten the time a bit, I don’t get as often as hoped to do what I like, so using Choicescript was a good workaround due to it being a little more simple to use. 

I still hope to make a game with Twine, maybe in the future when i have more financial stability and time to just still and put my full heart into it, but until then, I can say that making Evenfall Grove using Choicescript won’t change anything story or choice wise. I do need to figure out how to work the whole “you can die or get injured when exploring at night” thing, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out…

Next on my list of things to update everyone about is a few changes to my profile, I wanted to make it easier to access information and stuff, as well as easier to read. I might need to tinker with the colouring, but so far I think it’s better. Which leads to me saying that RO profiles have been taken down for the moment. 

I’ve been writing A LOT whenever I could. A lot of rewrites since the ending became more and more clear as I wrote, and a bunch of short stories about the characters. Thanks to this, my brain is forcing me to do another redesign to make them all feel… Well, more them. 

Constantin is the first (and only one even close to done) and has gotten a lot of love, I brought back some stuff from both his older design drafts and made him feel and look more like a man who has been beaten down by life over and over. Exactly what I’m going for.

Another change is the title banner! I still have a few more things to mess with, but for now it less of a priority over writing. I love it more though and the font is real pretty!

Aside from more redesigns, I mentioned character short stories, I might edit and post them if the need calls for it, but it did really help develop each of their backgrounds and helps decide how I want them to be and act, especially around MC! 

It has made me need to rewrite a lot and pace out how MC will first meet each of the characters (as well as how romancing them will go about), in the end it’s helped me decide how I want the ending to go and how I want each character to end up by the end. It’s not just MC going on a journey of power and character development. Each romance option has their own unique way of growing throughout the story.

While I’m mentioning characters, MC’s Familiar has been narrowed down to four animals; Squirrel, Owl, Badger or Fox. Feel free to make more suggestions, my only tip is smaller forest dwelling animals, since familiars size and shape are based on the power of their witch and the environment they're in! MC isn’t the powerhouse they are capable of becoming quite yet.

That is all for now, not as much as I hoped to update everyone with, but I like to try and get a word out when I can so no one is left wondering if this interactive fiction is no longer being made. Still fully intend to make Evenfall, it’s just at a busy snails pace.

roman henry joel phoenix was born to two not so loving parents along with a younger sister named ashleigh in london, england. growing up started fine, as roman didn't really know better, that was up until his teen years in which then everything changed. as a teenager, roman learned his parents wanted him to take over the family business and refused to let him out of it. the young boy, however, wasn't at all interested, all he wanted to do originally was make music. he wanted to be a musician as he always loved writing poems and short stories and managed to make what he thought was beautiful music out of it. not to mention he realized his parents didn't really treat him the best, but having his little sister they treated her like an angel.

as soon as he turned sixteen, roman started to rebel against his parents, spending two years being nothing but trouble for them, and moving in with his aunt. during this time he got a few tattoos across his arms and one on his chest, both his ears pierced (earlobes and industrial bars), his tongue pierced, started wearing all his rings and really experimented with his sexuality and just live his best life. he first got a girlfriend at fifteen but they broke up shortly after he turned sixteen and started to change (due to his rebelling against his parents and trying to find himself more). roman also fell into the wrong crowd of people and got into drugs and alcohol and not being the most careful at a party at eighteen for graduation, roman found himself in the hospital.

after this time he cut out a lot of his bad habits (still drinking from time to time and deals with smoking on and off) and removing all the piercings in his right ear and tongue as well as removing all his tattoos. this had roman push to get into music and managing to release a single and left his aunt's home, getting his own apartment. during his time cleaning up he met a guy he'd date for a couple years before they parted ways due to wanting different things. this is when roman realized, he wasn't ready to settle down. he ended up getting a record deal and moved out to los angeles, california in the hopes to make an album but things didn't work out and he fell into a bit of a depression feeling he wasn't as good as he once thought at music, falling into bad habits again but not as bad as before.

roman did met a guy during his tries at music, who also heard his single and offered him a chance at acting. so he left his music dreams behind to put his all into acting and doing pretty well for himself with a couple good films and a show under his belt already. finally he started to really feel proud of himself. despite all of this, he still holds out the dream of being a successful musician as well. music always have a place in his heart and in his free time, he's always working on new music whenever he can, while also still enjoying and giving his all to acting and treating each role as his own and finding parts of himself in each character he brings to life.

roman still struggles with sleeping around and flirting, despite really wanting to find someone to settle down with and consider maybe a family one day. he's just scared he's unloveable and work makes him harder to commit to. he's also since moved out to aurora bay, california living his best life in the crystal cove area for the past couple years (upon march 2024). his got zero contact or desire to connect his family or much of his life back home, except him two exes who became close friends after and support his career and hope he one day finds love and lets himself love and be loved. he also still does music as more a hobby, not sure about releasing much more yet as he's unsure he can handle being dropped again thinking he wasn't good enough when the deal fell through.

Some October Comfort Rereads

Gathering some of my geeky, spooky books and comics together for rereads and thought I would share.

Kcirt Ro Taert - in case the title was not a dead giveaway, this is a Zatanna story. I think, without checking first, it is a Paul Dini story? Just did not feel like going back to double check. Scary story about Zatanna, told by the Scarecrow.

Hold Me - I like Hellblazer and John Constantine, especially Neil Gaiman's take. But this Neil Gaiman story is one of my favorites.

Jill Kismet - I love this series by Lilith Saintcrow. Just read the short story Kiss. Not everyone's cup of tea, but is a great comfort read for me. Flesh Circus especially, and has a sweet spooky feel.

Ghost Teller - A webtoon where ghosts tell scary human stories.

Dresden Files - series by Jim Butcher - very complicated saga of a wizard/PI who advertises in phone book.

Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs - coyote mechanic literally raised by wolves. Personal favorites are Redemption (I am covetous of Ben's whiteboard and rug) and Iron Kissed, but Hopcross Jilly is a fun story. Also overlaps with her Alpha and Omega series (The "Hello, hello" at the end of Burn Bright - good, spooky shivers.)

The Dark Is Rising Sequence by Susan Cooper - if I have an excuse, I will read this. On the day of the dead, when the year too dies, shall the youngest open the oldest hills. Perennial comfort read
