Google is now the only search engine that can surface results from Reddit, making one of the web’s most valuable repositories of user generated content exclusive to the internet’s already dominant search engine. If you use Bing, DuckDuckGo, Mojeek, Qwant or any other alternative search engine that doesn’t rely on Google’s indexing and search Reddit by using “site:reddit.com,” you will not see any results from the last week. DuckDuckGo is currently turning up seven links when searching Reddit, but provides no data on where the links go or why, instead only saying that “We would like to show you a description here but the site won't allow us.” Older results will still show up, but these search engines are no longer able to “crawl” Reddit, meaning that Google is the only search engine that will turn up results from Reddit going forward. Searching for Reddit still works on Kagi, an independent, paid search engine that buys part of its search index from Google. The news shows how Google’s near monopoly on search is now actively hindering other companies’ ability to compete at a time when Google is facing increasing criticism over the quality of its search results. Unconventional format / mixed media / meta / epistolary fic ideas:

Script format but the characters slowly break fourth wall until they grow self aware and scream to leave but the script confines them.

Mock up notes of an author's fic outline only for a "fan favourite" / "author's darling" character to gain sentience and influence the story. The character changes the outline to suit their own agenda, and their changes are marked with a different colour whereas black text means it's the author's will. Maybe another character using another colour gains sentience. The different colours fight for dominance. Mom says it's my turn with the keyboard hey what the fuck man excuse me I'm literally trying to save my family can you guys let go and let me write your character arcs in peace OH FUCK OFF

Recipe fic. The story is told via those unnecessarily long backstories on a recipe blog in which you learn about someone's grandma or a breakup or literally anything. Bonus points if the actual recipe deals with worldbuilding (what ingredients are available? What utensils are used? How to serve this meal? Woohoo Dungeon Meshi) or in-cheek recipes (eg. "Recipe for making up with your estranged mother - Step 1: Mix patience, nostalgia, and filial piety and let it marinate for ten years. Step 2: Throw that shit into the trash because you're better than that")

Travel fic. A character is lost and trying to find their way somewhere. GPS directions, googling "x place to x place", tickets and dates, train station maps, leaflets. It gets weirder and weirder. You never get closer to your destination. You're walking around in circles. It's always 10 meters away. Where are you going and where have you been?

Receipts. Try to infer what a character is doing judging from the weird things they buy together. Also yipppee inflation tracker. On the other side, maybe it can be about a cashier/ shop owner getting to know their customers and what they order.

Written from the pov of an non-native English speaker, all the English words are italicized whereas their native tongue are the only words not italicized. Inspired by Kupu rere kē by Alice Te Punga Somerville. This is because I got salty about people from Ao3 Reddit saying they won't read a fic in all italics.

Murder mystery / "Among Us" style impersonation fic strictly using the chatfic format. Characters and readers will have to figure out which character has been killed and replaced from the way they text and use emojis. This is also because I got salty about Ao3 Reddit being a wee bit pretentious about emoji usage in fics. Maybe emojis can be important plot devices! Some people prefer to sign off messages with a heart emoji of their signature colour, so won't it be weird if they use another coloured heart? How about someone using lapslock suddenly using proper capitalisation and full stops? Can you tell if someone's phone has been stolen? What if someone's mother is pretending to text like their child? Why is someone suddenly only using UwU speak? Is it a bit, or have they been replaced?

Innocuous second person POV until the last line where it's suddenly revealed to be first person POV all along and the "I" has been stalking and narrating "you".

Other fun bits / Easter eggs / secrets to hide:

Decoding within the text itself. Maybe we get given instructions to find a word in x chapter on page y on the nth line. And when we as readers collect all the words, they form a sentence that spells out an important fact which the characters are oblivious to. Or maybe the in-universe characters find a book with the same title as the irl fic with a bookmark in it, and if you go to where the bookmark is stuck irl, you'll find the murderer plainly stated. The rest of the fic is about the readers having hard confirmation of who the murderer is while characters don't know.

A phrase is subtly repeated throughout the text of the fic and is spelled out with the letter that begins a sentence. It gives off the effect that the narrator is screaming and crying into the void (to the readers in the fourth wall) while trying to avoid detection. Bonus points if the same word is repeated for pages and pages to the point the lack of sentence variation feels weird and clunky.

Morse code!! I love morse code! Using onomatopoeia to convey the dots and dashes! The sound of rain pattering on the tin rooftop— drop, drop, drop. A low whistle of a train rumbling in the distance. He slowly sharpens his knife, creating a shiiing sound. A lengthy, high pitched squeal from his kettle. A dog barks. A sharp knock. His heart thumps. Dot dot dot, dash dash dash, dot dot dot. SOS. Maybe a character's death scene spells out the name of their mysterious murderer. Maybe a character is reminiscing their deceased loved one and the scene spells out what the deceased person would've wanted to tell them— "LIVE ON" or "I LOVE YOU" or something.

When Jon first told Kon he had feelings for Damian Kon's response was "Oh so you like them pretty and mean uh?"

When Jon first realize he had feelings for Damian the first thing he did was Google "Falling for your best friend reddit"

Damian fall for Jon slowly and overtime, he didn't realize it right away though just kind of thought he unlocked a new level of friendship, until one day he noticed how liked it when Jon held his hand and didn't want him to let go. He proceeded to have an internal crisis about it.

Jon: "Damian you've been playing that game for like 5 hours"

Damian: *playing project sekai* "You don't understand, I'm trying to pull a specific Asahina and I'm close I can feel it"

Damian has already spent at least $300 on a damned gotcha game. Jon is very unimpressed.

When it's first announced that Jon and Damian are dating Dick, Jason, and Tim decide to give Jon the shovel talk. However Jon has a hard time taking them seriously, he's known them since he was a kid it's more funny to him if anything. That being said though the one he actually is kind of intimidated by is Jason

Kon also tries to give Damian the shovel talk but Damian lowkey kind of scares him so he just decides that Jon is strong enough to take care of himself

One of Damian's favorite pieces of clothing is a hoodie he pretty much stole from Jon. It's far too big on him but he doesn't care, it smells like Jon and that's what matters

Damian never fully realized how much he actually liked physical affection until he started dating Jon. However he doesn't know how to ask for it so instead he just sits or stands really really close to Jon hoping that he gets the message

When they first got together they tried to keep it settled, try to keep it a secret, but they weren't subtle at all because to anyone with eyes it was obvious that something was up with the way that they would stand closer to each other more so than usual, the way that Jon would lean down to whisper something in Damian's ear to make him laugh, and the way that Damian would reach out and run a hand through Jon's hair and in a claim to quote unquote fix it and ask him if he's ever heard of a brush

Jon doesn't really remember when he started to have a crush on Damian. He assumes it was around the time puberty and hormones started to happen but what he does remember is that all of a sudden he would be out with friends or family and think stuff like "oh this would be a fun place to bring Damian to!" or he would see or hear something and be like "this reminds me of Damian!" and it just hit and he was just like "oh no..."

I finally had a breakthrough with understanding how Hermes in the Lotm donghua works! (ฅ>ω<*ฅ)

Or at least I've discovered a pattern to it. Visual explanation time!

In the beginning, Hermes didn't make any sense because as you can see, directly translated hermes doesn't give you words like Ancient Hermes and Loenese does. With the exception of the mid episode info slides, every other time hermes appeared it looked like gibberish. (-_-;)

But earlier this week I suddenly had a breakthrough! ＼(^o^)／

I was trying to see if there was any connection between the Chinese characters and the hermes. I discovered that when the characters were spelled out in the latin alphabet, the first letter of each character matched the hermes letters and always ended on the same last letter.

As you can see in the picture, this pattern fits almost every time we see Hermes, to the point where it's hard to call it a coincidence.

Btw, I literally know next to no Chinese at all and only discovered this through guessing my way through google translate.

So that's the usual Hermes pattern, which means that it usually doesn't give you any new info.

That changed with the intro of the slumber charm.

Suddenly I had to try figure out the characters based on only the Hermes letters. Which is kinda hard when you don't know the language at all. (；´∀｀)

Alone, I could only guess that the CMN could be "Chén MiáN" (沉眠) which can be translated to 'Deep sleep/slumber'. Which could fit. But the rest? I couldn't solve alone. (-_-;)

Thankfully I got some help from zeeshiry on Reddit! (๑•̀ㅁ•́๑)✧

Who knows some Chinese and with her help we were able to come up with some theories about the writing on the charm!

Our current theory is that 'HYECMN' is split into two, 'HYE' and 'CMN'.

Because 'HYE' could mean "Hēi yè" (黑夜) which can mean 'Black night' and is also the characters used for 'Evernight'.

Basically, this means that 'HYECMN' can stand for "Hēiyè Chénmián" (黑夜沉眠). Meaning "Black night deep sleep/slumber" or "Evernight deep sleep/slumber". Both of which feel like they'd fit the slumber charm.

As for the rest of the text on the charm...

It's harder to tell because we don't know how it's supposed to be read. Additionally, 'NNS' is almost impossible with the current pattern because practically no Chinese characters ends with S.

So one theory for NNS that Zeeshiry came with was that it could be rearranged into NSN, which could be "Nü shén" (女神) meaning 'Goddess'.

If this is the case, then a possible translation of the other hermes text on the charm could be:

H -> "Hēi" (黑) [Black]

YE -> "YÈ" (夜) [Night]

CMN  -> "Chén MiáN" (沉眠) [Deep sleep]

HYE -> "HēiYÈ" (黑夜) [Evernight]

NNS (NSN) -> "Nü ShéN" (女神) [Goddess]

That is currently our best guess and theory, even if it doesn't match perfectly with the previous pattern. It's the best we could come up with until we learn more about charms.

Even though there's still a lot unsolved about Hermes, I'm honestly just really proud I discovered anything at all. It really confused me in the beginning and it's so satisfying to have been able to find a possible key to decoding hermes.

This might not seem like a big deal to casual veiws, but to us who've hit a wall of confusion whenever we tried translating Hermes, this is a significant discovery.

⨳ for kwon, karate is the only important thing in his life; he cares about being the best, and that's it. he doesn't like anything that can distract him from that, so if he happened to like you first, he would deny it for as long as he can. ⨳ he would probably be pissed at himself for it. he thinks couples are stupid and that he doesn't have time for that sort of thing. ⨳ as far as everyone knows, he can't stand you. he rolls his eyes every time you speak and walks away every time you're close. ⨳ definitely does the whole flirting to piss you off thing just to see how you react. smirks to himself every time you blush and tries to pass it off as more teasing if someone notices. ⨳ if you liked him first, he would kinda hate you lol. he would find it annoying and probably be a little mean about it, but if you stopped paying attention to him, he'd have to deal with the fact that he doesn't like it when you're not around— and what that actually means (he's having nice feelings and he absolutely hates it 😌).

(there's a slightly emotionally unavailable part of him that thinks it's dumb and not "masculine", so you can bet this thing is locked and password protected. no one is ever finding it as long as he's alive). ⨳ kwon refuses to have you as his phone background— he doesn’t want people thinking he’s whipped (he is). so he also has a secret folder full of pictures of you, most of them are taken without you knowing cause he's embarrassed. ⨳ it takes him a while to get used to all this, but he puts in the effort and tries to get better and be the boyfriend you deserve.

once he starts to get used to dating though? he's a menace.

since he's never had a relationship he can be uncomfortable with important things

⨳ okay, we know from s6 that he doesn't actually have a family, so i feel like at first he wouldn't like the idea of meeting yours. ⨳ would probably make a lot of excuses. in the end, you have to drag him to your house. ⨳ your parents are really nice and compliment him a lot. he's super awkward all night but he tries hard to make a good first impression. ⨳ helps set the table and do the dishes. probably tried to trick you into telling him what to talk to your parents about (i say trick because he refuses to ask). ⨳ once sensei kim finds out, he really wants her to approve the relationship. he's kinda scared she'll think it'll affect his performance, even if he doesn't admit it.

overall, he's trying to do his best and slowly gets fully comfortable with everything.

where the comments would at first be like 'factkinning is pretty controversial. talk to your boyfriend about having healthy boundaries.' but then yjh would respond 'I had to google this word. He wasn't 'factkinning.' I am a fictional character from a novel he read. I was the main character which he 'kinned' to cope with some pretty severe trauma he was going through at the time. I'm okay with it, I accepted it a long time ago.'

which causes confusion in the subreddit and people speculate that this is again two doubles dating and that yjh is more kinshifted than his partner. or 'op should be respectful of his partner having introjects of a character that they both clearly feel a deep connection to' since yjh mentioned kdj having trauma in another comment thread.

She is turning 17 this month, and while I know she reads fic, I don't know if she'd really appreciate a bound copy of Crimson Rivers. I do know she loves Taylor Swift, though. I've seen plenty of lyric books floating around that people have bound, so I thought this would be a fun idea. (Bonus: it's another book I can show friends and family!)

However, not being a Swiftie myself (I think she's a lovely and talented woman, I have nothing against her, I have several of her songs on exercise playlists, but my taste runs more to 90s britpop) I had a lot of questions.

Do I include all of her lyrics? From all the way back?

What's up with these "from the vault" songs? Do I include them?

What's the deal with the re-releases?

Do I include Christmas songs?

Why on earth did she have to write SO MANY SONGS?

This book could have been over 500 pages. I was trying to reduce the page count as much as I could without sacrificing readability or content. But as it is, it's 462 pages and a few more would have been fine, but what's done is done. Anyway, as to why she is so prolific, I have no idea, but I am impressed.

Thank GOD I found a google doc on reddit with all of the lyrics. I think if I'd had to copy and paste from somewhere, my niece would be getting a copy of Crimson Rivers instead.

The cover was foiled with my Silhouette, and I was so pleased with how it came out. I used this tutorial on Instagram for my settings. But I couldn't do that with the spine, because lining it up would have been impossible. So I stenciled that on. And a friend advised me to use the cat charms on the ribbon.

Okay I had to google these terms and I found these definitions on reddit:

Pro-ship is a philosophy that what you enjoy in the fictional realm does not say anything about your real-world ethical framework. You recognize that people can enjoy things in fiction that they wouldn't endorse in real life. It does NOT mean that you personally enjoy anything and everything in fiction. You can still dislike or be grossed out by things, but you just don't judge or make assumptions about people who do enjoy those things. It's a firmly anti-censorship stance.

Anti-ship is the belief that fictional tastes can and do indicate something about your character. There's a strong belief that fiction affects reality, and a good deal of concern about "romanticizing" or "normalizing" certain things. Anti-shippers often believe it's okay to confront somebody about writing/enjoying things that they don't approve of and ask them to stop; it's a pro-censorship stance.

Based on these definitions, I am a firm pro-shipper when it comes to fanfiction and fandom, and I have more slightly more complicated feelings when it comes to professional published work. I'm happy to elaborate more if anyone wants me to, lol.

A long ass rant abt my Roger being autistic headcannon cuz i haven't seen anyone talk about the idea of him being autistic besides 1 person (who i mention and quote on this post) 💔

Remember that not all autistic people act the way he does or show the same symptoms autism is a wide spectrum that can affect all sorts of people and can make people act in many different ways. Some autistic people are loud and outgoing, and some may be quiet and anxious. Please also don't use this to say you might have autism this is just how i see his character and shouldn't be used to diagnose yourself or others i am not a professional and this is just my opinion so take this with a grain of salt!! You also don't have to agree with me. This is just my version of the character!

Roger is described to be more on the quiet side and doesn't really seem to communicate with the other boys much. He is even described to be 'forgettable' in the book for example when him, Jack, and Ralph go to check out the 'beast'/parachuter in chapter 7 'Shadows and tall trees' when it says "Roger spoke; they jumped, for they had forgotten him." And is also described as "uncommunicative by nature" and "impervious" in the same chapter. Throughout the book, he is described as quiet, uncommunative, furtive, and even intimidating. Which yes, not everyone who is that way is autistic it is pretty common for autistic people to come off that way. He comes off as someone who presents more monotone, secretive, and seems to avoid attention as much as possible.

Roger, in my opinion, also seems to not be the best at communicating and understanding social cues. He doesn't engage in the same behavior as the rest of the boys, and through the book, his behavior is displayed differently in a noticeable way if that makes sense. He just doesn't really seem to notice (or at least care) that he acts/comes off differently then they do.

Another thing is that he's said to have an insensitivity to him and has a strong focus on his thoughts and opinions on things, which is another common trait in people with autism

His lack of empathy for others is another thing to note. A lot of people with autism can often be seen as apathetic or rude because they don't fully understand how others feel or how some of their actions could make a person feel. While his lack of empathy could be a sign of some other disorder, i do think it could at least partially be related to this.

Roger's need to control his environment and the way he seems to listen to whoevers 'in charge' of him so easily could also be related to the fact that a lot of autistic people desire a feeling of structure and predictability. He listens to what he's told to do and usually tends to fly under the radar because of it. He's shown to have some sort of need for control but at the same time doesn't seem to have any want or need to actually be cheif in any way because he pefers to have that sense of structure and have intrusions on what to do.

I have only seen 1 person talk about Roger possibly being autistic/nerodivergent on a reddit post from the uer "Nitekatgames2023" that popped up on google when i was trying to find more input on this idea and i find their veiw on Rogers actions possibly not being to outwardly hurt others but rather deal with the stress of possibly being nerodivergent to be really interesting here's a bit of what was said on that post: "Roger excels at being Jack Merridew’s enforcer because of his willingness and ability to follow authority figures. “Pure evil” characters are seen breaking social rules or disregarding people/ laws from very young ages and their incapacity for adjusting behavior when committing “evil acts” (crimes, misbehavior, physical altercations). Roger can function in a well-functioning society as seen by his previous post as choirboy and his initial interactions with the other boys. There is agreement in numerous analyses of “Lord of the Flies” that Roger has been taught to mask his impulses but I will argue that his impulses are not to directly harm others but rather a need to cope with stressful situations due to a potential neurodivergence" i think this look on his character is pretty interesting and i like their veiw on this a lot.

Heres some more stuff the person said on the post that i found really interesting that i want to share "Roger mirrors whatever authority is dominant. At first, he is obedient to rules from English society because that is how he has been conditioned to behave. This transfers to following Ralph hence his helpful demeanor, and then transitions once again to Jack where he becomes his most brutal. Roger has a tendency to say or do what the other boys may say they want to do or what they may be collectively thinking such as suggesting the vote or “quieting” Piggy's arguments or being at the front of the pig hunt or at the front of the mob that kills Simon." As well as (sorry this quote from the post is quite long) "Golding puts the least amount of perspective on Roger and most of that perspective boils down to, “thinking about irresponsible authority” or “time to be the most evil person possible” but the deriving pleasure part is an interesting aspect. This is due to people’s reactions to Roger’s actions. In most stories, the brutal second in command thrives off of loudness, but not Roger. His violent acts seem to disrupt loud commotions especially. In the first gathering with everyone, Roger’s interruption of holding a vote causes the boys to settle down. This trend continues with Roger and another choirboy disrupting the loud playing of the littluns on the beach building their sandcastles. Finally, during the loud confrontation with Piggy and the rest of the tribal boys on Castle Rock (where the stone material is most likely echoing all the noise and the waves are loudly crashing underneath), Roger sends a boulder down to kill Piggy which quiets everyone. Some people with neurodivergence have aversions to unpleasant stimuli such as loud noises. This can make people with neurodivergences feel uncomfortable, irritable, or on edge. Extreme reactions to these can manifest in self or other destructive ways (may be called meltdowns or something else). Of course, this does not excuse criminal or immoral behavior but it could explain part of Roger’s drastic reactions to these events."

That's all i have to say for now about this, i love this headcannon for him so much.
