#Reverse Robins

Reverse Robins (an AU where they are miraculously functional), but Baby Dick asks a sleep-deprived Bruce for an elephant

First he asks Damian, and Damian, who also loves animals, doesn't say no-

"They're hard to take care of"

"I used to take care of Zitka! I know how to take care of an elephant!"

"Only if father says yes"

And Dick proceeds to ask Bruce for an elephant, when Bruce can barely distinguish his newspaper from his toast, with the saddest little voice an 8-year-old can muster.

Bruce has no idea why the baby of the family is sad, but he agrees to whatever he asks as long as the child doesn't have that voice again.

After sleeping for 15 hours because a sedative was put in his coffee, Bruce wakes up to find an elephant in his house, with Damian and Dick taking care of it.

Before he can refute, Dick makes him listen to the recording of him agreeing to them having an elephant.

Bruce learned two things: not to agree to any of his children's requests when he is sleepy, and that Dick learns faster than he would like.

This headcanon fits rather well in my Reverse Robins AU, except my version is not nearly as cute as yours.

So, its is a well-known Thing that if you're the youngest of a family (especially a large one) everyone will forever see you as young, right? This is exactly what happens to RR!Dick, who is the youngest of a family of ten.

It started rather innocently. Everyone picked him at some point or another because he'd ask or it'd be convenient. Dick loved this arrangement because because at the circus he was picked up quite a lot too. Everyone's happy with this habit.

Fast forward to Dick's preteens. His family is still picking him up, this time like you would a newborn deer. Just bundling his lanky limbs and pointy elbows into their arms and hoping for the best. Dick is a little confused why this is still happening because the picking up is less comforting now and more awkward. He tolerates it though. In fact goes limp like an overcooked noodle each time they grab him, just to earn a laugh or two. Things are still good.

Fast forward to his teens. Dick has shot up like a weed at this point. He's 5'10, reasonably muscular and has inherited enough passive lethality from his adoptive father (Damian) that he's quite a bit intimidating even if he's standing still and doing nothing.

Surely the whole 'Let's carry Dick places like rich woman would a small dog?' thing would stop now, right?

No, it has not stopped, only gotten more reckless. To be clear, Dick no longer fits into their arms, nor does he want to. (He's sixteen and would like to use his own feet, thank you very much.) He still goes limp when they grab him, but this time it's a defense. His unwieldy weight just drags both of them to the ground and now neither of them are getting anywhere. This does not deter his siblings however, they just assume advanced maneuvers to bypass the issue of physics.

...By the way, 'advanced maneuvers' is just tossing Dick over their shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

The worst offender of all this nonsense is of course one Damian Wayne who will forever see Dick in his mind as World's Littlest Boy. (Cue that one scene from Phineas and Ferb.) Damian struggles to verbalize his love in words, so he often shows it by instead physically hauling his actively struggling teen son around. Or, alternatively, stalking him on weekends, since he's out of town with his friends on weekends. Or, alternatively, dragging him along on week-long JL missions against his will.

Dick hates all of this with a passion but he will have a violent crash-out if any of these behaviors stopped. Damian knows this fact because it's happened before.

You see, Dick wants to be a rebellious teenager in theory but he also, like any true Bat, has complicated abandonment issues that make him anxious to actually acquire the space he's gunning for.

So instead he just goes through the motions of pushing Damian away and complaining loudly about having a suffocating dad, just to happily pretend he doesn't notice his own father stalking him through Metropolis while he goes to the movies with his friends. It's also pertinent to mention that he's only Damian's ward and he's going age out in two years, so he takes a lot of comfort from all the reminders that Damian is 100% dedicated to being his dad.

I love when people pick my beautiful man up, I think he deserves to be constantly carried around by the people he loves. He deserves to feel loved.

Okay but consider this: everyone is so used to carrying Dick because he was so little when they first met him that it was just instinct to pick up and whisk him away by the time he got older. It doesn’t matter that now it looks sort of ridiculous to snatch up this lanky teenager and sprint away with him, it works. It’s efficient. And Dick doesn’t actually mind it.

Then he’s an adult, and people still are picking him up for like no reason. Just because they can. Because they want to. And Dick just shrugs and goes along with it.

He’s a little prince and it’s proven by the way they hardly let his feet touch the ground.

Because Red Hood!Steph understands the mechanics of how Duke’s powers & Cass’s body reading work, her gear includes a short-range teleportation device so that she can both escape more easily and break line-of-sight in combat. It is vitally important that neither of them be able to keep a bead on her, because if Duke “Sees the Future” Thomas or Cassandra “Knows Your Next Move Before You Do” Wayne can keep Steph within their field of vision, then the fight has already been lost.

It’s an extremely delicate & dangerous device, hard to aim & harder to compensate for after jumping, and probably is more swapping place with targets than it is true teleportation (safer than free-aiming, because there’s no chance of ending up half inside a wall), but she’s trained for years with it specifically so that she could fight as naturally with it as any meta. Which means it still only gives her a small edge, because like, Cass can see that Steph is winding up for a swing in a direction that doesn’t make sense and realize Steph is about to be coming up behind her, or Duke can track the location of any target Steph throws in a hurry before she’s even gotten it out of her pocket.

It also makes for some great mind-games, because only Steph knows which target she’s going to jump to at any given time. She can throw one as a distraction, while aiming for one in the next building over to make a clean escape. Or she can make them think she did that, then jump back to the one she threw behind them for a cheap shot.

Reversed Robins

Damian: Tired, exasperated, responsible eldest who tries not to show his amusement at his brothers' antics. (*cough* the mom friend *cough*). Doesn't murder out of respect for Bruce. Has tea with Alfred weekly to bemoan the fact that they are the only ones in this damn family with self-preservation instincts.

Tim: The definition of teenage angst. Killed the Joker, which was never traced back to him. (Damian's rather proud of him for it, especially the planning and skill required to hide it, though he'd never admit that to Bruce). Works with the Bats a lot and is usually on pretty good terms with them, just avoids Batman. Is Oracle's favorite.

Jason and Dick: Adorable small little cinnamon rolls with a side of violent, murderous rage. They feed off of each others' chaotic energy. Have a competition every week to see who can get Damian and Tim to pick them up more (Tim counts for more points because as much as Damian would like to pretend otherwise, he always caves to the puppy eyes, but Tim doesn't usually). Are basically best friends.

Reverse!Robins, where Jason tries to steal from newly minted crime lord Tim and gets flash adopted before Batman can claim another one for his child soldier team!

Hmm but what if it’s a reverse robins au, where their ages are all reversed, but Bruce still acquires them all in the same order. Like Dick is the youngest, but he’s still adopted first.

How old would Bruce have to be when he adopts Dick then? Let’s say he’s 19/20 when Damian is born, and Damian is maybe 10 years older than Dick, and Dick is 8 when Bruce takes him in. God I hate math fuck. Bruce would be 37/38? Give or take?

Idk but imagine the absolute angst of like a ten/eleven year old Dick feeling like he’s being replaced by a boy who’s older than him, feeling like he must not be good enough, and then Bruce adopts that boy within like 6 months?? While Dick is still just a ward?? I think that would break Dick. I think maybe he’d run away or smth. Even if just for a little while. Maybe he’d already founded the Titans, and so he goes on missions with them or just hangs out with them at their homes or at Titans Tower and barely goes to the manor.

And Jason dies within like a year. Tim joins quickly, and Dick finds another, new older boy who’s there replacing now both him and the big brother he never got to really know.

Idk the between is fuzzy, but I want Damian to be sent to join his father or whatever, and instead he finds the first child his father took in and he realizes Dick is is just totally lost and feels like he doesn’t belong anywhere but Damian can see how much potential he has, and he decides actually he will take this child and raise him instead. Dick is maybe like. Fourteen at the oldest. Bruce rly acquired Jason and Tim within like 2 or 3 years. It was a lot of change for Dick.

Maybe Dick and Bruce have just had another big fight. Maybe Bruce is lost in time and instead of taking care of Dick like he was supposed to, Tim is obsessed with proving that Bruce is still alive. Damian plucks Dick right up and either lives with him somewhere in Gotham and goes out with him as Batman and Robin, or Damian takes him back to the League of Assassins maybe.

Do they deal with Red Hood coming back during all of this? Or maybe Jason is still with the League so if Damian brings Dick there, Dick finally gets to know the brother he admits to being a little afraid of when Bruce first brought him home. Not because he was scary, but because he got along with Bruce so well and he was from Gotham like Bruce and then Bruce made him Robin too and he felt like he was being pushed away or replaced or like he was just disappearing.

Idk I just like the concept of reverse robins but same acquisition order
