Stickbug Wiki UPDATE!
INTRODUCING ‼️MOBILE COMPATIBILITY‼️
NOTE: I've noticed on some browsers like Firefox, it takes longer to update and looks BAD at first. I've found if you press "CTRL + SHIFT + R" it helps, but if it doesn't please tell me so I can find a solution.
The site should hopefully work/be readable on mobile devices now! I had to recode the site from the ground up, but I am VERY happy with the result, and was even able to give a complete visual rehaul to the site! I also found out how to add rounded borders. Y'all will notice that. Trust me.
I did a lot of minor updates this time, rather than add anything big. The main focus was redoing the site so it could function better on phones/be easier to scroll through the code in the future. And finally I can say it...
ENJOY THE UPDATE! NO LONGER JUST RESTRICTED TO THE COMPUTER! :D
Full Updates List Under Cut:
Completely overhauled the look of the website and added a new header
Added new icons for Maroon, Green Screen, Green, Purple, Silver, and Navy
Added Mitsi to Characters
Added a Featured Page to the Index
Adjusted the cursor so its more accurate and easier to see where you're clicking
Adjusted the Character Thumbnails to where theyre actually fucking CENTERED
Minor rewrites to "Third Times the Charm" and Victim's History
Added two new images to Green's gallery
Added two new images to GS' gallery
FINALLY fixed that fuckass border issue with the character floaties
Renamed "The Locust" to "Snakemouth's Heart" and added a new chapter: "A Creature of Obsession"
Reorganized some files like the Character Icons + Character Pages

Sharing some random non-spoiler thumbnails from the first issue cause I cant help it. ☺️↕️ I had to rewrite the script but I love what I have way better now compared to the first. Treating this post as a mini-update on the status of the comic since I been posting so much concept/production stuff. I’ve got about 33 pages thumbnailed so far. I’ve decided that I’ll be releasing a small cluster of pages at a time, but I do wanna make sure I have the whole issue drafted first. GS WILL BE REAL! Hopefully these are an ok treat. This is my first comic so thanks again for the interest and support so far!🧬🐢

An Echo and Arches' critique
(This is a slightly rewritten version of a post I made on Reddit months ago before GS left TEP and TSR was de-canonized.)
I must preface this by saying I love the Echo trilogy; they are some of my top ten favorite FVNs. However, I also struggle to describe what I like about something; it's much easier to explain what I don't like. So, I figured I could be more constructive by pointing out areas in which I believe Echo/Arches could have done better.
I also did a similar thing with Adastra a while back if you guys are interested.
Echo Nitpicks
First, there's the art direction. It's so inconsistent that it's debatable if Echo even has an art style. It is self-evident that multiple people did the sprites, CGs, and backgrounds; the whole thing is a patchwork. I understand that that's due to how the development went down, and honestly, it doesn't damage the experience; after a while, I don't even notice it anymore. That is why I put it under nitpick, but I also noticed how unvaried the sprites are. Even with the main character, the torso and head are almost always the same, and the arms have very limited configurations (I mean, Leo only has two poses: crossed arms and hands on the waist). This is especially noticeable compared to the rest of the TheEchoProject library; even Adastra has significantly more dynamic sprites despite being made simultaneously.
Then there's the plethora of continuity errors. I heard an engine problem makes returning to fix small mistakes a pain. I believe The Echo Project team is just waiting for The Smoke Room to finish to align all the continuity in one go. I also noticed a section on Flynn's route where Chase looks at the town records. I believe they are planning to revamp that section so that every file he checks alludes to each route from TSR. I also heard they plan to rewrite Carl's route, which I hope is true.
Jenna's Route
I was going to have a section on my problems with how Jenna's route is written and how that damaged how the fanbase sees her, but blindseer0 made a post that pretty much refutes all my points.
Carl's Route
There are a couple of big problems with Carl's route.
First, it feels disconnected from the rest of the Echo. Looking at the game as a whole, this route feels like a filler arc, but even the characters don't seem to care about the plot of this route. They are essentially being dragged at knifepoint by James and John, but no one, not even Jenna, cares about the mystery, and if the characters aren't invested in what they are doing, then why should we be?
The other big problem is how repetitive it is. The "puzzles" in the ghost mansion get old fast, but beyond that, how the characters play off each other is also kind of all the same once we enter the ghost dimension. The character dynamics are one of Echo's greatest strengths, but this route isn't the best display of it. All the interactions boil down to Carl and Jenna fight, Chase peace-keeps between them and comforts Carl, and Raven is comic relief. Speaking of Raven, many people complain that Raven doesn't fit in the story and should be replaced with someone more connected to Carl. I partly disagree; all the route-specific characters serve an important story and thematic function. They all allow the main characters to connect with someone unrelated to their collective baggage. However, Raven's out-of-placeness isn't without reason. He doesn't have a strong dynamic with the other characters; he just serves as comic relief and fades into the background until the plot needs a fourth person to watch Jenna while Chase is with Carl.
So here are my hopes for a possible future Carl's route rewrite:
To streamline the ghost dimension section, cut the first mansion and cabin sections in half and either remove the second mansion section or merge it with another section.
Make Chase more invested in the mystery; as I said above, the characters don't care about the plot of this route. I figured Chase would be the best candidate for the role of "detective." It is established that he wanted to study history before his parents vetoed it, and the end of this route heavily implies that Chase has become serious about being a journalist; all the pieces are there for a nice arc for Chase if he would only show more interest in solving the James/John mystery.
Add Flynn to the ghost dimension. Adding him would be the spice that the character dynamics need (and I'm not just saying this because I'm a shameless CarlxFlynn shipper). Flynn would be better in Carl's corner when Jenna gets aggressive. He could interact with Chase when Carl and Jenna are fully possessed. Not to mention his dynamic with Jenna herself. His pessimism would contrast with Raven's optimism. If you have him look after the possessed Jenna, it would free Raven to have more character-building interactions with Chase and Carl.
The Route Order
If you ask most fans, they are sure to give you similar recommendations on route order: Carl>Leo>Jenna>TJ>Flynn; Carl and Leo sometimes switch places, and people who like happy endings tend to recommend playing Jenna last, but it doesn't tend to deviate a far from this pattern. The problem is that this order is completely unintuitive. Most people going into the game blind without a recommended route order will likely play the game like this: TJ>Leo>Flynn>Carl>Jenna, and here lies the issue. Playing TJ's route first actively damages the experience of reading the Echo. If you play TJ first, not only do you get revealed on one of the game's biggest mysteries less than halfway through the game, but the way his route is written heavily relies on the reader having played at least one other route. TJ's route is not so much horror as it's suspense, as we see Chase's mental state slowly deteriorate, which loses a lot of its punch without having read other routes to have a point of comparison to Chase's normal behavior. And then there's the fact that the Hysteria doesn't even happen in this route, which should be a big deal, but you won't even realize anything is unusual without playing at least one other route first. TJ's route is fundamentally incomplete. The TEP crew themselves expressed frustration with people consistently choosing TJ first (I guess they assumed that Leo's sheer sex appeal would be enough to make most go for him first?). I sincerely believe that Echo needs a route-unlocking system so that you can't play TJ before playing at least one other route first (and also make sure you can't play Flynn before TJ).
Arches's One Problem
Arches is almost perfect, in my opinion; the only problem, and it is big, is that the set-up is very contrived. From the moment Cam and Dev first try to leave Echo, you can feel the hand of the author railroading them into their eventual meeting with Brian, and you can say that there are reasonable explanations for why things happened this way; Artie was oblivious to the danger, Cam was being manipulated by the town, etc. But that doesn't change how it feels like the author is cheating to get the story to go the way he wants. From the second the characters become aware of the danger of Echo, we, as the audience, can no longer suspend our disbelief when the characters find excuses to NOT leave as soon as possible. And what's especially baffling is that there is one very easy fix, just tone down that first haunted motel scene. If instead of getting their shit scared out of them, things just go the way Dev thought they would, it would remove the in-universe urgency for them to leave Echo, and so it won't be frustrating to the audience when they waste time NOT trying to go. Dev had already decided before that first scare that he didn't want Cam to come back, and we, as the audience, saw the first scene with Brian, so we knew Echo was dangerous even if we didn't play the other games. So, the tension is preserved either way. What it would change is that Cam wouldn't look unreasonable for wanting to stay in a town he knows is dangerous, Dev wouldn't look like a spineless enabler caving to Cam's demands that would put him in danger, and Artie wouldn't come off as annoyingly oblivious for not treating the situation seriously and indirectly placing everyone in danger as a result. Also, they should've made it so they find Cam in the forest after his freak out instead of the road because Artie suddenly needing to pee at that moment also felt contrived.

Using Schrödinger’s Mary Sue In Creative Writing
Every once in a while, out of nowhere, the idea of something like a cool fight scene, a witty exchange between the villain and hero or a very dramatic finale just ✨pop✨ into a writer’s head; usually accompanied with a sudden burst of inspiration. When those scenes involve established characters and stories, more often than not the writer regains consciousness several hours later having fully thought through the most epic thing they’ve ever written, contemplating weather or not they should rewrite the entire story to be able to properly include that scene.
But sometimes those scenes are just about A hero, A villain, A couple, not about someone specific. When that happens we often get stumped in the creative process because we have to sit down and actively create characters or fledge out vague character ideas we’ve had on the back burner to have material to continue the train of thought. And that usually kills that burst of inspiration.
That’s where what I call “Schrödinger’s Mary/Gary Sue” comes into play.
A SM/GS is a character concept for a specific archetype of character who possesses only the characteristics that you tend to give these archetypes, as well as all of the abilities for them that you came up with but weren’t able to include but wanted to.
To give an example, this is how my own SM/GS for the MC/Part Time Hero looks like:
- personality and appearance -
Vaguely Male
Light Hair
Kind (optional, might have been beaten out of them)
Intelligent
- abilities/roles -
Teleportation
Ghost sight
Half human / half spirit
Fox spirit
Dragon shifter
Follower of / reaper for the god of death
Genius magician and high priest
A planet throwing heavenly knight who helps the gods of creation fight evil gods from other dimensions
A literal god
Etc. etc. bc yes there is much more
That list on its own looks pretty Mary Suey. What makes that character a Schrödinger’s Mary Sue however is how to use them: Once that character has been placed into a scene their abilities are limited to just one, or if compatible and not over the top a few of those abilities.
This setup gives us the opportunity to experiment with not only that scene that originally came to mind but also old ideas that we didn’t want to abandon but couldn’t make work at that time. Basically what we’re doing is instead of playing with air, we play with an unpainted, unclothed, wig-less doll. It’s not concrete enough to just be copies of pre-existing characters but gives us enough substance to develop the scene; and if all goes well that doll won’t stay in that state for too long and become its own fully fledged out character.
(I used to really struggle with losing that burst of inspiration but since I’ve started using the SM/GS approach my brain has probably become the fastest and most effective recycling machine on the planet.)
Also, I you end up trying this for yourself, keep in mind to keep the SM/GS’s personality and characteristics as vague and basic as possible before going into the scene, else you risk writing the same character over and over again. Once you start working you can add proper personality traits and make a real character from that base concept. And of course, don’t be afraid to change those basic characteristics if you feel like it or the story develops into a direction that calls for it.
Happy writing :D

glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks darrow and cassius had a little something going on there 😭 cassius confessing his love for darrow and darrow then behaving embarassingly in denial about it was 100% on my LB bingo board. and based on how many times darrow goes on about how handsome cassius is (HE OF THE BLOODYDAMN GOLDEN CURLS!!) it goes both ways.
Thanks for the ask! I’m delighted to hear you enjoyed More than Brothers—although, I must admit, I’m in the midst of completely rewriting it, lol. But that part, more or less, is staying, and I’m glad it resonated with you!
You are more optimistic than me, anon—I would’ve been honestly shocked if Dassius became canon in LB. But I fully and genuinely believe it should’ve been! I’ve always suspected that Cassius was attracted to Darrow and that, sometime between GS and MS, he started developing romantic feelings for him, but that he understandably believes Darrow is painfully straight, so he’s never confessed to it.
But he doesn’t know what we know. He doesn’t know about the inner–monologue! The sheer thirst of it! Either Darrow is secretly in love with Cassius—or PB is. Dealer’s choice.
Tysm for reading! Check back on Ao3 in a few days if you’re interested in the new version.

How would you modify GS to work better, ideally changing the fewest major elements?
If I really had to do this then...
Other than just straight-up making it into the ryona hentai part of it clearly wants to be, I would probably focus on making the people in the setting actually behave as if they are living in a dark and gritty world, with more awareness of what the threats are and how to survive them.
So goblins would no longer be an overlooked danger that no one even thinks to prepare for, and every legit professional adventuring party would have some basic knowledge and preparation before they go and endanger their lives for money. As it is, many of the characters treat the world like it's basically a video game even though it's allegedly common for goblins to routinely eliminate whole villages.
The other thing is making the goblins more nuanced and fixing their frankly nonsensical reproductive situation. We are told that since they are all-male they need to capture non-goblin women to reproduce, and that their inherent sadism is such that these women rarely live more than 2 weeks after capture. Even granting that apparently they can produce multiple goblins a week each, the math of this is really weird when you think about it, especially considering how short their lifespans seem to be.
Such a parasitic life cycle obviously requires continuous atrocities inflicted on the nearest population center, which obviously isn't going to just let it happen. Unless new goblin nests just spawn out of the ether it seems really odd for them to just pop up over and over again all over the place considering how extreme their needs are.
The simplest way to resolve this is to just make goblins into a more intelligent and productive species that doesn't have its fertility limited in such a way. They can still commit all kinds of terrible atrocities but less so as an inherent part of their biology and more as part of a very long and very bitter conflict kept alive by cycles of revenge and fear affecting both sides.
The violent and genocidal actions and intentions of the "heroes" would be reframed into something more disturbing, not actually that different from the massacres caused by the goblins. The story kinda bends over backwards to justify why killing every single goblin without exception is always the correct thing to do, because they canonically are all evil rapists who will just backstab you and cause mass death if shown mercy. I think it would be more interesting if this was not the case and you had to actually engage with the morality of what is going on.
As it is, there is basically no line Goblin Slayer is not justified in crossing because the writer really seems to want him to be not just correct but the most correct person in the world. Some more self-reflection would be more interesting, especially as he realizes that the goblins in the rewrite are not actually universally evil rapists (though that idea could certainly be used as war propaganda from his side).
People have replied to the earlier post noting that the story as it exists really comes off like someone who really wants to write a really racist metaphor about immigrants, and even that reads like fascist propaganda. Given that the story is about the overlooked need to genocide an always-evil race of subhuman rapists who are incapable of true intellectual achievement I don't think they're wrong to see it that way.
Ultimately, I don't really think the core story of Goblin Slayer is really worth the effort of a major rewrite. I'd rather make a more original setting with an emphasis on undead instead.

Wouldn't be cool if Total Drama All Star has Total Drama Aftermath before the final episode
Yeah, in my genderswap rewrite, I’m adding the peanut gallery, where we can see the other ROTI and TDI characters opinions. Who they are rooting for and of course interviews of the eliminated contestants!!
I’m thinking the hosts is either, Ginnifer, Bryson, GS! Anne Maria or GS! Dakota (he’s still healing and let’s be honest, Dakota is great host material)
Also Nojo moments and Aletaylor hinting. Interactions between the two different casts.

I don’t need to see the leaks or the trailer to know rebirth still cloti 😎, Nojima wrote 7 in 1997 as cloti he will rewrite cloti again, its his story, im sure rebirth will still have Cloud and Aerith moments and say ‘and’ instead of Clerith because at the end they will never become a thing, remake did have some ‘CA’ coded moments but if put in context they don’t read romantic, they are only romantic if you want to see them that way out of context. as someone who didn’t play og and only played remake, i have heard of the LTD and thought it was legit, but playing remake was so dame obvious 😂 have anyone seen their looks to each other? The train scene? Childhood friends?? Lol I'm sure the trailers are bite, the game will have moments just like rebirth but they wont read as romantic if you aren’t delusional, zack is back and he will reck the CA, im so excited since we didn’t really have him in og. waiting for the game and cloti GS date, these two can’t stop staring at each other imagine them on a date lol
(Its also why im holding to the hope Cid is just playing a character and being sarcastic 😭 i trust Nojima)
I hope Cid was being sarcastic because that was one of the things that really put me off playing. How tf could that be his intro?! Gave me icks 😬
Obviously the story is cloti because it's always written that way, but that doesn't excuse the repellent marketing that rightfully put people off wanting to play. On the other hand it shows just how disgusting that ship is when the reaction from the majority is disgust.

It’s 27 Feb 2025. I am being stared at by the cat, who wants more food though he was fed not long ago. I tell him that a big poop doesn’t make room for more food, but now he’s complaining about the service like I brought a hyper-friendly dog in the room. I saw some incredibly math but it went by a bit too fast. Maybe I can hang a left and come around the back way.
Bill the belly, like a character in Wodehouse, has an embonpoint. I tell him the waddle isn’t as attractive as he thinks. There’s a lot of life in the old boy. He gets excited by his food. He gets excited by the smells of spring. He enjoys cleaning himself more than ever. He likes to look outside, though nothing much can be seen.
That’s sorta the problem I had with Billy Pilgrim: if you’re stuck on Tralfamadore, why is your choice to spend every moment with someone you’ve fixated on because she has great tits and seems empty-headed? Is the idea that our fantasies are empty-headed too? Thing is, I thought KV meant this as a real fantasy because that reflected what male fantasies were openly like in that era. I think she reflects a character role in which she’s there, in the room, and there are interactions but the man is separate, is not joined to the woman except in those interactions, as intimate as they may be, because the man is separate in perspective, and the female represents the character which appears when the male is what? pure? If purity has an effect, I’d expect it to do better, like give her a brain. I don’t rewrite endings: I pick a different premise and the endings write themselves.
It’s like picking a key and then fucking around with it, keeping it in mind when you wander, banging on it other times.
I’m not sure where I am at this moment. The experience is intense but it’s definitely not mathematical words. I had trouble with that phrase because words is not quite the fit because there is no fit available which is better than approximate, and that’s because of the nature of gs formation which we described yesterday. I now remember having the explicit conversation whether I should or could say that this makes the gs in which the Bip forms, that this form, which flips the bT over itself, thus has a center around which this occurs, and that center is the gs forming at each spot where a gs can form, which is where there is a 1, because a gs is a 1Square. So when we see 2:1 and the 2Square or any higher relation, we’re doing that in the various senses of 1, meaning 2:1 is (D1-2//2-1), not a simple division or addition. This is a fundamental finding.
This makes the enclosing gs which defines a gsSheet, and note it does so rectangularly, which is LayerView, which proves again the conception of L-counts. I need more caffeine. The visualization required for this roots in the acceptance program advancing further last night. That was fun but it also took a lot of effort. It’s amazing how much energy one can have when one builds the capacity for work: the need to work to expend the energy is intense. That’s how a military works. It’s why the Romans always built a fort. They acted as capacitors: assemble and disassemble to plan, obtaining the needed new material and reusing what made sense, effort put in, taken out, to repeatedly construct for effective use.
I’m not sure I can overstate the importance of these images. The difficult part seems to be understanding how this gs forms, which is described specifically as the gs generated which fits 2 hyperbolic spaces together, the Irreducibles of the same or the Irreducibles of 2 entirely separate Things. By the same is meant the local Irreducible, meaning the polar states of the Thing in the current dimension, in the gsPairings.
I’m seeing a map from one rectangle to the other, which invokes CR, which invokes the orthogonal at the next level too, meaning that the Thing created locally exists in exterior local contexts, and so on. And one way to say that appears is to count along the zK and see that the sK simplifies to that count, which means the Thing described has cardinal and ordinal properties and these count as described along the xyK, meaning the count goes infinite, reduces to finite, etc., which only requires recognizing these axis lines are now equivalent to Extents in Triangular, and that this further generates gsParallels.
That’s not bad, considering the remarkable intensity. I need to get out for a bit.

I think that one of the few trades that could make sense is a Jewell/Marine. Marine for Jewell and some points in the draft, also because it's the only one that can afford Jewell, considering the other players NYL has and how much NYL can still spend on salaries. I don't see Jewell in GS, she has no leadership.and they probably will trade Plum. Other team possibulility are Aces, Fever, Dallas or Chicago, but I don't see it will happen. Jewell has the problem of the higher salary and that from 2026 will become a Free Agent. They made Gabby a Core because of the Jewell trade or because with all the ufa: nneka (who despite not being cored, has stressed that she does not want to leave Seattle), Sami (who I personally would keep, but I don't know if Seattle can afford her), Russell (who will leave), Vivians (anonymous), Holmes (anonymous); so they tried to keep the only one who could make them earn something? In the article of Gabby's core on ESPN there are details, but very ambiguous: Gabby's representatives were not surprised (well I don't think those of Breann, Plum, Satou or Mitchell were surprised). ESPN JOURNALIST write on X that Seattle core Gabby, because she gave them an input (the input was, for espn journalist, the good words that Gabby says to Seattle and their management at the beginning of the season). Ahah, that is their source. In the article they said that Gabby went there because they promised her not to do the core, but you know they don't rewrite in X (it is also.an input to Seattle that she doesn't want to be cored). Seattle can't go anywhere like this, without a bench, if a player gets hurt or needs rest, they don't have anyone decent: only Jordan, Russell is leaving, they can't afford Sami and Nika is in rehab and MacKenzie (who?). The team is not going anywhere like this (Gabby, as an intelligent person, should know this), 44 games in 4 months and you have to play 6/8 ( or more) without your starter and when she is back, you will play her again 32/35 minutes every games? In her last performance in the Euroleague Gabby didn't seem 100%, she missed a lot of baskets (like when Marine had surgery)...
"Of all certain things, the most certain is doubt".
I wouldn't think too much about all this. we just have to wait and see

Pokémon Pocket Monsters HG SS Volume 1 - Chapter 10
Tyrogue trains for a bike race so a bike shop owner can bring more customers to his store.
This time, Tyrogue gets some attention. Tyrogue never really had that much of a focus before. After the GS series, he would often be supporting the others on the sidelines or partake in a Pokémon battle that lasts for 2 or 3 pages. So having Tyrogue train hard for a bike race to become a pro athlete gives him a purpose or goal the audience will root for.
I just find it funny that he was able to ride that one bike all the way to London.
I like to imagine that he made it to a part of Galar before Galar even existed in the games. (I hope Anakubo utilizes his references of non-Japanese locations for future sagas in this manga...)
TRANSLATOR'S NOTES
This has confused me ever since I started reading this chapter. And now, I'm gonna use this section to talk about it. So, in this chapter, Red and the others help a man who owns a bike shop. The shop's name is Kurukuru Cycle.
When I searched for the name online, I couldn't find anything except for articles and videos from people who create strategies for Pokémon battles where you continuously switch out Pokémon. (Which NEVER gets annoying...) When I visited Bulbapedia, I found out that there's a bike shop in the original series and GS series (as well as their remakes) called Miracle Cycle.
The Miracle Cycle in Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver versions is also located in Goldenrod City. Which is presumably where this chapter takes place. To back this up further, I did some more digging on Bulbapedia to see if Miracle Cycle had other appearances outside the games. And to my surprise, it was written that the store appears in a chapter of Pokémon Pocket Monsters HG SS. (Which is likely this chapter and a future one.) With that information in mind, the bike store in this chapter should be called Miracle Cycle.
But it's not.
I don't know why. But every instance of Miracle Cycle is replaced with Kurukuru Cycle. And I mean EVERY instance.
You might blame this on regional name changes. But even in Japanese, Miracle Cycle is still called Miracle Cycle. This is especially weird since the name Miracle Cycle is only used in the Japanese versions of the games. There was no way Anakubo drew all of this without looking at the games for verification.
The only theory I have for this is that Anakubo wanted to write "ミラクル" (Miracle), but wrote "クルクル" (Kurukuru) instead. He probably stuck with the latter for consistency. Since this is the only bike store in Johto shown in this manga, Kurukuru Cycle and Miracle Cycle must be one and the same.
This mess was tiring to wrap my head around. (But not as exhausting as having to rewrite all of the "Kurukuru Cycle" text in English.) I'm just glad I have some kind of closure to the Kurukuru/Miracle issue. Sometimes, I feel like I should create an account on Bulbapedia just so I can add useful information like this to the site's pages. (And delete any info that just isn't right.)

Guys, the fun things about creating MCs for IF is that, at least for IMHO is collaborative. You get to create an MC that is yours yes, but you need to shape them to fit someone else's narrarive.
MC isn't a loser, they are new to this side of the industry, and I imagine overwhelmed and a little drained.
They have to make this big audition, which is stressful, are accused of cheating by a much bigger band with more influence, are stuck with the ex/ex friend who is not even giving false niceties ( whose friends also dislike them), they are in close proximity with their idol and their messy personal situation, have been thrust into a leadership role, which means they have to make choices that effect everyone and have to deal with the bullshit that comes with reality TV and in my head, they aren't is a great headspace.
I have spent a lot of time creating my MC, she is mine, but she is flexible, so she can still change at the authors will. It's less about taking a character and shoving them into a story and more about making a character that flows into someone else's narrative.
So yeah, when Amy does the rewrite she should change the MCs band into A misfit Alley level band, maybe make them co- hosts with Gs band instead and there is no need for growth as they have already evolved past all of Sevens shit and are just here to romance some cute people and watch chaos.
There's been some discussion recently about MC that caught my attention because I agree. MC feels like a loser when you think about all of the other characters. When I play an MC who did nothing wrong to Seven it just feels like Seven is angry for no reason. Seven is allowed to act like a child while MC has to take it? Doesn't seem fair.
Everyone has something going for them and what about MC? No one likes them and everyone hates their guts. Aren't they supposed to be the main character? Why does everyone hate them? Why aren't they considered more talented? It just feels like MC is a doormat while Seven and the other ROs are these talented superstars.
I don't want this to come off any way but I feel like the story would be stronger if you made MC a bit meaner or at least made people acknowledge MC as a better singer.
I don't want to sound rude but I'm very much exhausted by this topic. I've probably explained this 5+ times but I'll try to break it down one last time just so people can understand what I'm trying to do.
First, to get it out of the way, we are only on Chapter 2. I just want to reiterate that. The story just started.
It just feels like MC is a doormat while Seven and the other ROs are these talented superstars.
Secondly, MC is a character I try to give as much customization to, both personality and appearance wise. There's a variety of ways you can approach everything, or I at least try to in a way that doesn't sacrifice what I want to write for the plot, but I think people are under the impression MC is 100% a blank slate character when it's not true.
MC is still dependent on the plot and I always strived for MC to have their own narrative arc. The same way the ROs have their own character arcs, MC will have their own, because they are a character in their own right and going through some that fundamentally changes their life. That means the MC from Chapter 1 will not be the MC at Chapter 20. They will be different. That's what a character arc is. Character development is expected. How can you expect a slew of ROs to grow and change and MC remaining stagnant? Doesn't make sense narratively and it seems unfair to MC.
The MC is not a completely blank slate, and that's where people are getting it confused. In the beginning, MC is going through such a change with BOTB, without their family, and on the heels of a band breakup that's still impacting them today. MC is a little down, maybe even depressed if that's how you read it, and they're getting pushed to be leader by their manager. They are not really okay right now. They have to be professional and put on a brave face for the sake of their band, who, if you paid attention to what Rowan said in Chapter 2, are all depending on this. This is what they worked for since high school. MC is not going to flip a damn table on Day 1 just because you want them to. MC can fight, if you choose, against UWB. That's not supposed to be a smart choice, but emotions get the best of all of us.
They are only just navigating a worldwide globally famous show with a cheating allegation hanging over their heads, and a manager who wants them to be leader when, up until now, they haven't been. They've just been friends making music and miraculously having a fanbase. Now they're really in it. They have been thrust head first into the industry in a way that is so big that MC has to go from singer playing with their friends to a leader of a band who may just become globally famous in a few months if they play their cards right.
A lot of their actions are influenced by the fact that their band almost broke up and it's a thing that hangs over their head. Their past influences them. That's...how people work.
Now, if we're at Chapter 20 and MC is still acting like a scared bunny who doesn't know what they're doing, then be my guest. Scream in my inbox, I'd understand. That would be terrible writing, but we're not. The tour just started.
I play an MC who did nothing wrong to Seven it just feels like Seven is angry for no reason. Seven is allowed to act like a child while MC has to take it? Doesn't seem fair.
MC doesn't have to take it lol. I've always given an option to be rude to Seven/try to put them in their place.
People think I favor Seven when that's not true. (Seven isn't even my favorite RO)(That title goes to August lol). Seven acts the way they act because they are not in a healthy headspace. Their actions are not meant to be understood, because they are not entirely justified. Seven has a lot of growing up to do, but I have never sat here and advertised Seven's emotions as correct. Everyone knows Seven is childish, everyone knows Seven is handling everything terribly. People in the story have mentioned it. Their abandonment issues GREATLY influence their characterization and actions. MC has abandonment issues as well, of course, but MC is not as emotionally unstable as Seven. That's canon. It is what it is. Seven has a whole subplot about it.
As do other ROs. The only difference is that they're not so open about their struggles. Seven just doesn't care. Their emotions guide them. They can't control it. That's who they are. I have also said that many times.
I don't know why you think Seven can get away with everything when 1) it's only been 2 chapters and 2) no one knows how anyone feels about Sev because it's in MC's POV. Seven goes through their own trial by fire. As every RO does......thats a narrative arc.
Seven was always going to be a plot point, whether they were an RO or not. They were always going to be MC's former best friend.
Everyone has something going for them and what about MC? No one likes them and everyone hates their guts. Aren't they supposed to be the main character? Why does everyone hate them? Why aren't they considered more talented? It just feels like MC is a doormat while Seven and the other ROs are these talented superstars.
This one bothers me the most, mostly because I don't know where this came from. "No one likes them" Jenna and The Jewels does. Slow Crawl does. Their fans do. We haven't even properly met the other bands. Of course there will be bands who don't like MC: they're competitors. They're not friends. They don't know MC, why would they be biased towards them? Because they're the main character? They don't care about that?? It's how fiction works.
Maya is following the band around because of how much she admires MC.
Orion quit his job because MC's singing inspired him that much.
G listened to MC and saw something in them. Literally calls them the 'Chosen One'
Fans of the old band preferred MC over Seven. They liked the songs where MC sang solo. MC was better for their future over Seven. Hence why it was Seven getting demoted, not MC. I've said this. It's in the story.
I don't see how being the lead singer of a band on a global show at 26 makes anyone an actual loser but I digress.
Literally in Part 2 MC is acknowledged so maybe it'd be better if we waited? Say a good few chapters...?
If you wanted a story where MC is Queen level famous right out the gate and the #1 draft pick for BOTB and has no problems and better than everyone, then I'd advise you to look elsewhere. I don't like that. I like giving MC obstacles because conflict creates story. I like MC having to fight for their spot. It's more realistic, and this has never been a story of fame. It's been a story of their journey to fame.
That's their narrative arc. They grow into it.
You are allowed to hate/dislike Seven. I encourage it. I have given MC the option to hate Seven, because I'm aware that what Seven is doing is unfair. I am not punishing you for hating Seven. And this goes for all the ROs. It does not bother me if you dislike my characters. It means I haven't made them squeaky clean and have made them realistic enough to have people both dislike and like them, much like real life. I get it.
I've always advertised Infamous as a messy, angsty and dramatic story. I've used the term 'melodrama' for it often. I've always said the ROs--especially Seven--are flawed. Some more than others. I've said, verbatim, they are not wholly good people. I don't know why people act so shocked when they act some type of way. Like...I've always stayed true to what the story is. Half the dynamics aren't healthy right now...but that's the 'growing up part' of the story we haven't even gotten to yet?
If that doesn't interest you, then that's perfectly okay! If you don't like the narrative arc I have planned for MC, that's fine too! It just becomes a bit disheartening when people ignore the narrative.
I will try harder to write in a way that specifies my intentions. I always believe that if more than a handful of readers have the same complaint, then it's on the writer to fix it.
I hope my tone didn't come off rude, I'm just really really tired of this. I've had to deal with this since even before the demo dropped :) but your critiques are valid and everyone is always free to express themselves however they want. <3
