Here’s my official lineup for the HIT era steam team! I’m super pleased with my designs for all of them and I think that they fit their personalities well! I have updated some things since then (this drawing is from July) but everything is still pretty much the same up till now.

They are a unique species that look human but share engine traits (grey skin, higher demand for water, and enhanced strength and speed). They all work as conductors and general workers on the railway.

My AU also takes place in the mid 1960s so technology is very limited and is still very old fashioned.

- Despite being the ‘leader’ of The steam team he lacks in leadership skills. Unless the task is extremely important

- He is kind but can be mischievous and slightly rude when he wants

- He is pan and is currently dating Emily

- Despite his previous mistakes and wrong doings he tries his best to better himself and to not let others bring him down

- If there he candy around it will be gone in less than 30 seconds

- Annie and Clarabel are his closest friends and would kill if something bad happened to them

- Likes to bully the older members as he finds it funny (Gordon especially)

- The father figure of the group, everyone looks up to him since he’s one of the oldest engines

- The sweetest member on the team (probably the sweetest on the island let’s be real)

- The best guy to go to for support and advice. He’ll try his best to help everyone

- Rarely ever gets upset, when he does you know you’ve messed up

- Due to his age he gets tired more easily. And has trouble working long, hard days

- He is currently questioning his sexuality

- Absolutely loves calm days on the railway, it gives him a chance to slow down and relax.

- Despite being pushed down by the younger members, he doesn’t let that bother him and continues to do his best

- Loves hugs, gives them out for free (go give him one he deserves it)

- Is usually kindhearted but can be rude if you grind his gears

- Absolutely loves nature, he keeps a ton of houseplants in his room

- He is bi

- Has trauma from The Flying Kipper accident, he has a lot of scars from the crash

- Is a sucker for cuddles (will get flustered if you hug him)

- Has frequent anxiety due to past accidents. He doesn’t want to go through that much fear again

- He loves napping under trees (he has a favourite one in his forest)

- Hopes one day he could pull the express full time (despite Gordon’s pleas)

- Is one of the tallest and strongest workers on the island. He always thinks that he’s the best (and he is ofc)

- Despite his pompous and harsh exterior he is good hearted and wouldn’t hesitate to help others in need

- He is bi demiromantic and is currently dating Jessica (my self insert Oc)

- Has a massive fear of heights after the events of ‘A better view for Gordon’ and he hates it when people find out

- Avoids showing any form of weakness or vulnerability due to his reputation. He doesn’t want to look soft as he fears it will ruin him

- Enjoys a nice black tea at any time of the day

- Wouldn’t trade his job of pulling the express for anything. He absolutely loves it. And he hates doing any other jobs (especially if it’s dirty work)

- Despite getting teased by Thomas often he’s happy with his alliance with him, whenever he needs help he will come to his aid.

- Wouldn’t say it out loud but he would definitely cry if something happened to the ones that he cares about.

- He fears no one except for Diesel 10. He quivers in fear in his presence

- Sometimes, especially after an accident he feels insecure about his self image. And feels like he’s not good enough. He absolutely hates this

- Would definitely throw a tantrum if he doesn’t get what he wants

- The youngest in the the group, he’s just a little child!

- Is way too pure for this world. He brightens up any room that he enters

- LOVES any job involving the mail. He takes pride in it and is always super proud of himself when he gets the job done

- He is very optimistic and always has a positive outlook on life. He’s also very supportive and wouldn’t hesitate to lend a hand!

- He loves animals! And usually tags along with Henry when walking in the woods

- He’s very curious and wants to learn as much as he can

- He gets scared very easily, others take advantage of this and try to scare him. Though he tries his best to be brave!

- Despite being one of the smallest members of the group he has a massive heart. A great source of support

- Likes to participate in the younger members’ tricks on occasion. It gives him a good laugh

- Due to his calm nature, whenever he is stressed he often overacts as he’s not the best with dealing with anxiety

- He loves to wind down by sitting in his chair with a hot tea and with his wife close at the end of the day

💚Emily Sterling💚

Mental age: 35

- Surprisingly the oldest in the group. Although she doesn’t get teased about it as much as Edward

- Loves telling stories about her work experiences in Scotland. Feel free to lend a ear and she’ll tell you one!

- She’s usually very kind but she can be bossy when she’s grumpy

- She acts as the bigger sister to the group, especially the younger members. She will do anything to help them if they were in danger

- Loves a good old fashioned tea party. It’s one of her favourite activities

- She is straight and is dating Thomas

- She enjoys a good book. Takes frequent trips to the library. It’s her favourite way to wind down after a busy day

- Like Edward she gets tired easily and has trouble working long days

- She is the queen of girl outings, and is always ready to plan a get together

About: Sora with her friends, Kai, Ryu, kwazzi and peso accidentally hit into a dimension without her using her fantasy heart key. The fantasy heart group ended up in a world of pirates and crew members on a mission to get gold. But then queen Lucifer and prince Hamada went to their world to destroy them! With the help of their new friends, they can beat the queen and the prince and the heartless monsters together.

Kai: Ariel winter (she the second youngest in the group; she loved Ryu and Sora as her siblings. She can be a little off with kwazzi after what he has done to silver)

Jim Hawkins: Joesph Gordon Levitt (the leader of the mothership; he also supports for silver to make him feel better. He’s the leader of the ship)

John silver: Brian Murray (a cook and a cyborg who accidentally got his stomach upset thanks to kwazzi)

Delbert Doppler: David Hyde pierce (a doctor who’s friends with peso and also cares and worries about silver)

Captain Amelia: Emma Thompson ( she’s the captain of the team. She also wants to support him for making him feel better)

B.E.N: Martin short (a robot who’s friends with Jim Hawkins and Sora on their mission)

Morph: Dane. A. Davis ( a bubble and slivers sidekick)

Sarah Hawkins: Laurie metcalf (Jim Hawkins single mother who is always on Jim’s and Sora’s side)

Fav James voice?

:O !!! My first ask! Thank you very much anon!

Let me see, this is actually kind of a difficult question to answer because I haven't had the pleasure of listening to all of James's voices yet. For context, I have not watched any of the CGI series yet (save for the episodes "Old Reliable Edward", "All in Vain", and a few randomized clips that crop up on YouTube). I'm only a couple episodes away from finishing Season 6, and I intend to finish the classic model series first before watching CGI.

After much deliberating, I would definitely have to say Rob Rackstraw (who voiced James in the US from The Adventure Begins and into the BWBA era)! His voice is just so high pitched and nasally, it's so cute! I make happy pterodactyl noises every time I hear it. It's just so cute and it suits him perfectly!

Granted, I have a bias towards high pitch and/or nasally voices anyway. I genuinely find them really endearing and kind of attractive ngl.

Out of the narrator voices though, I would have to say Alec Baldwin in Season 5 takes the cake for me. He's just so needlessly fruity and I love it! I wish he had kept the same voice going in to Season 6, but considering that Conan called him out for making James sound gay and this was the late 90s early 2000s, I can see why he didn't. Still, for how much of him we got, Season 5 fruity James has my whole heart.

Also honorable mention to Keith Wickham (who voiced James in the UK from Hero of the Rails until Season 20). Definitely a very, very close second favorite unique James voice. His voice is deeper than Rackstraw's, but not too much so it still hits for me. Also I very much appreciate the more prominent accent.

Perhaps some time later, I will go through a rank every James voice I've heard so far. I think that will be fun!

The adventure begins is a big comfort watch for me but there's something funny to me that like. When I went on a binge of the entire series because I watched the specials between seasons this was my literal first exposure to James as voiced by Rob Rackstraw

And like after listening to all the later stuff I absolutely dig it, it's so on point, but the fact that the first sentence I heard, in the new voice, one much higher and more nasally compared to the more smooth and snooty vibes from Kerry Shale, was "BUT I'M NOT SMALL–"

It was an EXPERIENCE

Nina Barker Francis (House of the Dragon) as Whitley - This seems to the her first main cast role. Most of her previous roles were minor, if even multi-episode.

Georgia Lock (The Evermoor Chronicles) as Gretchen

Chris Lew Kum Hoi (War Machine 2017) as Hector

Tom Rhys Harries (White Lines) as Lucas

Colin Ryan (Final Fantasy XlV, Hades 2) as Vincent

Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Mack and Manfred - Really pushing the idea of Stagdad huh? One of Drew's father figures sharing a voice with the man that raised him is interesting. Have to wait until the series drops to hear the difference in performances.

David Dawson (The Last Kingdom) as Vega

David Yip (Pennyworth) as Huth and Hamwell - Huth is someone most any book reader will know, but I can't seem to find Hamwell in the books. If anyone can identify that character - assuming he isn't just a show original character - please let me know.

Kate Fleetwood (The Wheel of Time) as Amelie and Tilly - Interesting that both of Drew's mothers are voiced by the same actress. I had proposed a theory in a previous post about how Tilly could be from Shadowhaven like Amelie in the Show. What I didn't mention was that a joked with the idea that they were going to retcon Tilly and Amelie to be related. I don't take it seriously, simply by the lore implications with Trent. This casting made me double take on that 'theory'.

Kim Adis (The Witcher: Blood Origin) as Erin - For the life of me I can't find Erin as a character within Wereworld. If they appear in the books please inform me, I don't have all of them on hand to readily reference. It could also be that this is a show original character.

Kobna Holdbrook Smith (Mary Poppins Returns) as Hogan

Ralph Ineson (Nosferatu) as Leopold - Nothing special here, just that I'm fairly proud to have identified his voice the moment I heard Leopold from the trailer. I recognized him from Legends of Vox Machina.

Rasmus Hardiker (Xenoblade Chronicles 2) as Mikkel

Rob Rackstraw (Bob the Builder) as Vankaskan and Vanmorten - Makes sense that two of the Rat King would be voiced by the same actor. And given Rackstraw's ridiculous range in past roles, he can pull it off. Also, if you know Curtis Joblings previous work, this is a very appropriate casting.

Samuel Anderson (The History Boys) as Broghan

Miscellaneous thoughts on the cast:

A fairly stacked cast, specifically from a British perspective. Notable names mixed in with up and comers, professional voice actors, television actors and comedians.

It's interesting that Tilly and Mack share voice actors with other parental figures for Drew in this series. It makes me wonder if it's intentional, or they had already cast Amelie and Manfred and their actors just happened to read for the Ferrans as well. It feels intentional, given the relationships and that we later learn that Manfred has feelings for the Queen.

It seems most characters are cast to match their enthicity. Which tracks with most Netflix original voice casting nowadays.

It's a very rare occasion that Barnacles gets angry; he's always been very level-headed.

However, when someone DOES do something that grinds his gears, it's usually Kwazii (although he always means it playfully). With that, it's an even rarer occasion that Barnacles calls his crew by their last names (he will use titles, tho, like Dr. for Shellington and Peso), and then again, it's always Kwazii's he screams unto the high heavens when he finds out Kwazii has done him wrong.

Explanation: Calico Jack's (the human being) real name was John Rackham, and since most of his lore is canon in the Octonauts universe, I say that's his real name too. And since Kwazii doesn't know his parents (headcanon) when it comes to official paperwork, he took on Rackham to honor his grandad <3

On 3 September 2001, BBC Records released a novelty version of ["Mambo No. 5"] sung by British actor Neil Morrissey, who provided the voice of Bob for children's television show Bob the Builder. It features background vocals from Rob Rackstraw and Kate Harbour, who voiced several other characters on the show. This cover radically changed the lyrics to fit the theme of the show, making numerous references to construction, repairs and roadway maintenance, as well as the show's characters. The female names from Bega's version are also replaced with types of construction supplies and building tasks, e.g., timber, saw, waterproofing and tiling.

On 9 September 2001, the song debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Bob the Builder's second number-one single on the listing after "Can We Fix It?". In doing so, Bob became the first novelty act to top the UK chart with more than one single. Following the 11 September attacks, the song was removed from the BBC Radio 2 playlist, with the station's executive music producer Colin Martin describing the song as being "too frivolous in light of the news that was breaking".

he gets put in the salad spinner with Tweak. they'll have fun in there.

he's silly because I love the way he talks- I knew he talked like a southerner, but it didn't fully hit me just how often he says "What in tarnation!?" or phrases like "Reaping cottontails!", etc. until like S2 of AnB 🤣

I love his laugh. I can only add 1 video per post so I can't share it, but his laugh is incredible—it reminds me of Kwazii's tbh; I dunno who his VA is, but I'd guess Rob Rackstraw solely based off that—it sounds like a maniacal villain's cackle xD (go watch The Cold Snap to hear what I'm talking about, or The Alligator-Shark Showdown, where he and Kwazii are talking about the Marsh-mallows)

I also love how he's familiar and friends with every single creature in the swamp :]

I like his design ✨ just like Tweak, I think the green makes sense. I can 100% see Tweak dying her fur, and him doing it too to be supportive. His mustache is brown because that's his natural colour.

Also the fact that he can't swim is interesting??? I mean it's not exactly canon, but he said he'd never been under the Everglades' waters despite living there his whole life. So,, I'm assuming that means he can't swim, and Tweak probably learned from [REDACTED S5 SPOILERS], or Barnacles.
