Vitaly Portnikov: Rapists Must Be Resisted

The thrust in the first interview that Putin ’s accomplice Vladislav Surkov made after his leaving the Presidential Administration of Russia was that "coercion by force into fraternal relations is the only method that has historically proven its effectiveness in the Ukrainian direction".

In simple terms, Surkov acknowledges that the only way for the Kremlin to annex Ukrainian territories to Russia or to make Ukraine a satellite country is the rape. Because this is, in a clear language, a translation of the coercion by force into fraternal relations. When the "brother" gains by force the sympathy of the one whom he decided to make his "relative". Or when, by force, a man gains intimate intercourse with his wife. All this is ordinary violence, the relevant articles of the Criminal Code.

If Surkov spoke not of the states, but the people, he would look like an ordinary maniac, whose inclinations should be dealt with by law enforcement agencies and psychiatrists. But when Surkov talks about the states, then he - at least to himself - looks like a serious politician. And the fact that the recommendations of this "policy" have already led to the deaths of thousands of people, the appearance of hundreds of thousands of refugees from the occupied territories, people get arrested, tortured, and no longer theoretically, but practically raped in prisons of Crimea and the Donbas - this is not very important to Surkov himself, nor to millions of his compatriots. Because the "coercion by force into fraternal relations is the only method".

We must clearly understand that we are neighbours of a criminal formation that pretends to be a state only to rape and kill - and is not ashamed of its bloody instincts. What Surkov says is not a Surkov's belief, Surkov has no belief at all. It is the Putin's program. The rape program for Ukraine.

And paths to this violence can be different. It could be brute force, a supporter of which is Surkov. Could be deception, in which Kozak is a specialist - this is why they want to make use of the Vladimir Zelensky's "unusual ease of thought" noticed by the Russian delegation in Paris. And it could be a bribe. But in any of these cases, rape will be unavoidable.

Rape can only be avoided if the object of violence resists the violence.

In the words of Mr Surkov, this is "the only method that has historically proven its effectiveness in the Ukrainian direction. I don't think that any other will be invented".

Russia’s seizure of three Ukrainian naval vessels near Crimea is an “outrageous violation of sovereign Ukrainian territory,” says U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley, calling it “another reckless Russian escalation” in a deadly and years-long conflict.

“In the name of international peace and security, Russia must immediately cease its unlawful conduct and respect the navigational rights and freedoms of all states,” Haley said, speaking at an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council late Monday morning.

Haley said she was speaking for “the highest level at the American government,” after consulting with President Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

“All hell broke loose” on the water, said Volodymyr Yelchenko, Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.N., saying the Ukrainian ships were set upon after being forced to wait for secure passage through the strait. He said he has audio recordings of radio traffic showing how the Russian military orchestrated the episode.

Holding up a copy of the 2003 treaty between Russia and Ukraine, Yelchenko said Russia was guilty of “an open act of military aggression” that broke a number of international and bilateral agreements.

Yelchenko added that Ukraine now believes there is a heightened risk that Russia plans to invade and seize more of its territory — namely, the ports of Mariupol and Berdyansk — as it seeks to cement control of the waters around Crimea.

On Monday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said he was proposing that parliament back a 30-day martial law – half the length of that recommended by Ukraine’s security and defence council.

He said he did not want the measure to affect presidential elections set for 31 March 2019.

Not to mention the myriad other ways Putin would gain; end to US opposition to Assad in Syria, reduced American support for NATO, easing of American criticism of Russian human rights abuses/war crimesthrough the UN, etc etc .... Which are likely to be of equal or greater importance to Putin's geopolitical interests. The claim that the Russian government has a huge amount to gain from Trump's victory is entirely uncontroversial. The claim that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians in any way is unfounded, but there is at leastcircumstantial evidence that raises questions. Questions the FBI felt the need to investigate. Moreover, the fact he has refused to disclose his tax returns raises further questions about the possibility that Trump might have financial incentives to act in Russia's interests. A bipartisan group of U.S. senators, including Mitch McConnell, have now called for thorough investigations into the matter. What is suspicious is that Donald Trump and his staff seem hostile to the mere suggestion that investigations should take place and refuse to accept the overwhelming consensus among U.S. intelligence professionals that the Russian government directed efforts to hack U.S. political institutions and to destabilize the American political system.
