The woman that I saw at the bottom of the steps couldn’t have been her. But the sight of her. The way she stood there, amber eyes looking up at me as they had done so many times before when I’d returned here. To home. 

Our home that I had seen explode and turn to ash. The home that we had made ourselves. The place we had decided to grow old together in. The place I had watched the life leave her eyes in not ten feet from where that woman stood now.

No, the doppleganger at the bottom of the steps couldn’t be her. Because she was dead. But that didn’t stop my feet from moving. Didn’t stop my arms from opening wide and hugging her close to my chest, and relishing in the way she relaxed for once. And when we were standing there, warm and real in my arms, I couldn’t stop the words that came from my lips.

“I’m so glad you’re safe.” I whispered, biting back tears that threatened to spill over. “You look good. How are you?”

I pushed her back and away from me, studied that gentle but still so fiery expression. The small crinkles by her eyes. The dimples on her cheeks as the soft smile I had come to love played on her lips. The way her eyes still glowed the warm caramel tone of brown I had watched go daul so many years ago.

“Much better now.” She answered.

And it was her. The same voice that had become fairy tales for me in dusty motel rooms. And hummed soft lullabies to me even after long hunts. It was there. She was here.

She was alive.

She's dead. YOU KNOW she's dead; you saw her body at the funeral. When you kept seeing her everywhere, you chalked it up to grief. But this time, you have photo evidence. That’s definitely her.

Is Sam blind to Dean's parentification? Yeah

But that's BY DESIGN

John instills in Dean that he is to raise Sam BEFORE Sam could remember

And Dean never opens up about the pressure of that or how it stunted him

He left the family at 18 and wanted no contact. He is shown to have run away MANY times prior and wasn't clued in to how bad John treated Dean during those episodes

He was a selfish teen who wanted out of John's control and didn't have the capacity to see how Dean was feeling

Dean also is shown to cover emotions when he thinks they make him look weak, so it would be even harder for Sam to realize

i'm OBSESSED with the way that sam has no idea who dean is or why that question might piss him off
