In the shelter of the dense bushes, Hermione held her breath. She watched as slender fingers, with jeweller-like precision, carefully snipped the leaves from a tiny, dark-purple flower. The movements were accurate, following a specific, unfathomable order — like part of a carefully practised mechanism. Having arrived twenty minutes ago and checking her watch, she had intended to survey the clearing where the Nightbloom1; grew and review the latest records from Fulgor Silvarum2 ; — a company specialising in the study of magical flora, closely collaborating with the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures in the research and preservation of rare plant species.
Typically, it was Neville who handled the analysis of their research; given his unparalleled expertise in the field, he was the ideal candidate for the role. However, that morning, an owl brought Hermione a note. His latest botanical experiment had gone awry — a particularly temperamental plant had released a toxic sap directly into his face, causing burns severe enough to land him in St Mungo’s Hospital.
He sincerely apologised and begged Hermione, a head of the department, to go to the Forbidden Forest and retrieve a vial of Nightbloom nectar that had been stored in the research chamber for exactly one month and three days (beyond which it would become useless). Neville would have gladly assigned the task to one of his assistants, but with representatives from Fulgor Silvarum visiting the greenhouse that day, it was preferable that Hermione herself could oversee communications and inspect the results of their collaboration.
"Playing hide-and-seek? This brings back memories,"a quiet voice murmured, sending a flush of heat rushing to her face. Taking a deep breath, Hermione stepped into the clearing, raising her wand to the wizard’s back in mock warning, barely suppressing a smile.
“I was under the impression that we were working with the Ministry on equal terms, which surely warrants a degree of trust.”
“I don’t know what game you’re playing, sir, but before attempting to disguise yourself with Muggle dark hair and a cheap white coat, you might have considered removing your wedding ring,” she lowered her wand, walking slowly towards the man.
“Perhaps I left it on deliberately, knowing how sharp your eyes are.”
Straightening up, Draco ran his wand through his hair, and the dark strands faded back to their usual pale blond hue.
“And how did you know it would be me?”
Hermione wrapped her arms around his neck, her lips brushing against his in a soft kiss. Draco responded without hesitation — his strong arms encircling her waist, pulling her closer, deepening the kiss until it was warm, dizzying, consuming.
“Because I was the one who asked Longbottom to send you the note,” he murmured.
“Was it a request or coercion?” she asked, narrowing her eyes, playfully studying his face.
“Let’s just say he recognised the necessity of it.”
“Well then, Mr. Malfoy, you have precisely five minutes to explain why you’ve dragged me into the Forbidden Forest in the middle of my working day for your so-called laboratory research .”
“I thought arranging a date on our anniversary, in the very spot where you kissed me for the first time, would be rather romantic.”
“I kissed you? Oh, darling, has the nectar already begun to cloud your memory?”
Draco leaned in, his warm breath teasing her ear, sending her heart racing.
“Perhaps. But you certainly didn’t hesitate to kiss me back,” he murmured.
And as his lips met hers once again, Hermione silently admitted that she hadn't even thought of pulling away in the Forbidden Forest ten years ago.

1. Nightbloom – a fictional magical plant that can only be cultivated under the unique conditions of the Forbidden Forest. Its uniqueness lies in its ability to secrete nectar, which temporarily enhances a person's magical abilities, but comes with the side effect of memory loss.
