DISNEY PARKS WHITE WASHING / BLACKFACE MASTER-POST

* please no disrespect to the actual performers themselves as it is out of their control*

I recently made a post saying that Disney can’t claim to care about POC until they stop casting white people as characters such as Aladdin, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Li Shang, Prince Naveen, Moana etc

Since then I have received MANY messages from current and ex cast members about their experiences with this, some of which I have included below, they have remained anonymous for the sake of character integrity and their jobs

REPRESENTATION MATTERS

I don’t really care for Disneys excuses of having to have performers play multiple roles in the international parks,

Or that they need to be dancers too

they’re DISNEY they can afford to cast properly

And there are THOUSANDS of amazing performers who struggle to get roles anyway bc of their race and Disney completely disregards it by casting white people

Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disney are the most guilty of this, I go to Disneyland Paris often and have NEVER met an Aladdin that is not a white man with orange foundation

But Disneyland Paris had no issue casting POC dancers for their Junglebook Jive show but when it comes to casting Aladdin and Jasmine they’re all like :/// um no we will just slap orange foundation on our belle and flynn rider it’s fine , ps it’s NOT

Cosplayers get slandered for doing this and sometimes have their entire careers ruined by it but Disney for some reason get a free pass ? why ?

If you cosplay a character outside of your race for fun without changing your skin tone it’s fine

But Disney are claiming to be the REAL characters, people pay money and wait in long lines to meet the REAL Jasmine or Pocahontas, and the real princesses are not White girls with fake tans

Imagine being a little girl who adores jasmine because she looks like her and they have the same skin, and when she comes to meet the real Aladdin and Jasmine it’s a white man and a White girl in fake tan

it’s disrespectful, some would argue that it’s blackface and it’s CHEAP on Disney’s end because we all know they can afford to cast accurate performers, and there are so many who deserve a chance

It needs to change, Disney claims to be so diverse now but it’s clearly a lie

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Sign this petition for the Disney parks to stop casting white people to play POC
