however i will say there's another thing i really like abt him:

his Range!

he has a v flexible face.. even with his neutral expression, you cant help but read a tinge of melancholy/pensiveness to it.

he deters people from getting too comfortable with him by acting crude, but no matter how unapproachable he looks you can't help but wonder if he's ok. seems like he's never content with himself.

just like karkat, anger gives him purpose = something to care about & react to. without it he can appear aimless/uncertain.

it's especially interesting when you compare him to aradia, who despite having endured a lot of shit, ends up enjoying the freedom of expanding her worldview, riding the unpredictable tide of the narrative and observing the changes. sollux... doesn't.

he doesn't like watching major things progress in a way he can't predict. the lack of certainty actually overwhelms him.

and it's pretty clear why; imagine the only reassurance you get after unknowingly killing ur gf is that "it needed to happen". the only way to appease that sort of emotional turmoil is by intellectualizing those events as inevitable and out of your control.

when you’re just a tool for the author, trying to sit out is just feeble self-preservation until you’re needed again. if you’re not called on stage to help/assist in some way, it feels like your presence spells doom (either you or someone else will get hurt). so you avoid Events as best you can.

Heyyyy so is it normal for, if the stage manager calls a cue wrong, for the light/sound operator not to just do it correctly anyways? Isn’t that why they learn the show?

So professionally (and otherwise with good practices) when the SM calls the cue is when the op should play it, even if that's not the expected place from the script/tech. There's a couple reasons for this, the big one being that the SM is responsible for making sure that all the parts of the show go smoothly and anything that is off isn't noticed by the audience. For example, the SM might decide to call a sound cue late because the costume crew told them the actor that enters with the cue isn't ready in time. Or a light cue might be early because they need that side of the stage to go dark for deck crew to go out and grab something that's fallen.

Sometimes they do just call the cue at the wrong time (they're only human lol), in which case the op should still play the cue when they say, and ask them about it at the end of the night/during notes (politely and one-on-one if possible). The reason for this is that the timing of the show's cues is the SM's responsibility, and that includes getting them wrong, whereas if the Op plays a cue when it isn't called then the mistake is on them.

This is often an unintuitive practice for people new to tech and can be a hard reflex to pick up. (I should know, I learned to board op at a theater that had no SM calling at all and then spent several shows unlearning bad habits once I left lol*.) In general, disagreeing with the SM during a show is bad form and can distract both of you from the show.

Ops learn the show because, while it is the SM's job to know the entire show and all its moving pieces, the Ops know their area really well. So Ops can note that a cue happened at a different time than the day before and discuss it with the SM later on. It also helps so that Ops can anticipate when their SM is about to call a cue and up their attention.

TLDR: Nope! Familiarity with the show is useful, but an Op's job is to follow the cues as given by the SM. Changes to timing may be a mistake (but the SM's mistake) or they might be based off of information that the SM has and the Op does not. If Ops have concerns about timing, they should discuss it with the SM before/after the show. :)

it baffles me how many times i see a set of "recipes for when you don't want to cook!" and there's a step that involves using the stove/oven. for me, the "i don't want to cook" feeling is basically a hard barrier to getting out any sort of pots/pans that i would then have to hand wash later...

anyway this is a long windup to say that the toaster oven is my BFF. no preheat time, no need for any pot/pan when tinfoil does just fine, it's basically all the convenience of a microwave but with results that don't make me feel like i'm eating something Sad. where i'm at, you can get a decent toaster oven for under 50USD, so if you struggle with making meals for yourself and have the means to afford a toaster oven, i really do recommend it.

long ones 😌 sometimes i open my inbox and find someone has left paragraphs on paragraphs dissecting or analyzing the fic, or pointing out every single one of their favorite lines, or just going on a little rant about how it made them feel... i personally struggle with leaving comments longer than a sentence so receiving long comments makes me think about how much i would have needed to love a fic to write that much in the comments and them i feel very warm and fuzzy ehehe

Hi again, Ein! Thanks for dropping another question for me! And since this is more info about Veronna I'll be happy to share, along with some bits of lore ~

I stated this before in previous asks, but Veronna is a natural foodie. She simply LOVES seafood, probably influence of Mediterranean cuisine. After joining the Novana, Veronna's task was to be by Ale's side 24/7 (in her own terms ofc), however, a small and funny obstacle got in their way: The moment when she discovered about Takesushi.

Veronna never tried a single thing of Japanese cuisine before, so that was a first experience. And oh boy, if there's a moment when you see her happy, that's definetly the case! She completely forgot about having a massive wound in her chest that needed to be healed - That was completely pushed aside as soon as she tried sushi for the first time! Especially the ones with Tuna/Salmon/Shrimp. Pretty much her favorite pieces are the Nigiri and the Uramaki. Simple but delicious.

As a fun fact and a bit of loredump, every time Veronna stops by in Namimori, she WILL simply vanish from her family's sight just to enjoy some fresh pieces. Ale lost account of how many times they had to run into Takesushi just to find their right-hand getting plates and more plates. Ageha also met Veronna thanks to that too!

For a more serious side, during the Varia Arc, Veronna knew that the son of Takesushi's owner would face Squalo for the Rain battle. And she was secretly watching his training from afar. The night before, she threw one of her Sai aiming for the entrance of the dojo, with a note on it, which said:

"Only humility triumphs against pride."

That was the only hint she could left for Takeshi before the battle. As someone who faced Squalo before (and almost died thanks to her own recklessness). Veronna didn't want him to make the same mistakes that she did. Plus, she wouldn't be around during the battle as well, just waiting for karma hit Squalo with twice the force LMAO
