Always Bad Ending - Mod
Tumblr media
Something that's been on my mind for a while: a mod that removes all requirements from the bad ending, making it play automatically (so you no longer have to kill your companions (?) to get it). Useful if you want to trap Solas together with your Rook for whatever reason!
Compatible with anything and everything.

The problem with Solas' view of Mythal
Listen, this has been bugging me for a while, and I finally found a way to articulate it...
In Trespasser, Solas sounds completely devoted to her. And he's so bitter discussing her murder. It's almost like he didn't rebel to free the slaves but to avenge her. (He says he wrote that story "in desperation," so I'm not sure.)
In the Inquisition post credits, he takes Mythal's power, and in his mural he paints it as a betrayal. But it also seems like she gave him permission? She knows he needs her power, and there's no doubt in my mind she could stop him from taking it if she wanted. And we saw her put a soul through the eluvian. She's planned and prepared for this. And he's so wrapped up in his own grief that he doesn't see it.
And she tells him she's "sorry as well." And I don't think she's commiserating with him. It's almost like she's apologizing for something she's done that he doesn't realize? Solas thinks he's done something terrible, but I think he did exactly what she wanted him to do.
Like, I'm sure Solas believes Lavellan loves an idealized version of him that isn't true. But I'm thinking maybe he needs to look into a mirror about Mythal?
We've known Flemeth for three games. She always has a plan. She was waiting for you to come kill her in Origins. Just because she was curious about what you and Morrigan would do. You didn't just happen to be the only Grey Wardens she could save. She hand-picked you. Just like she did Hawke.
And Solas comes to this woman at the end of Inquisition thinking he stabbed her in the back??? Honey, sweetie, do you know this woman at all???
I have so many alarm bells going off in the back of my head.

Idk if there'll ever be a line that failed to live up to its potential more than, "They called me the Dread Wolf. What will they call you when this is over?"

No but really whose idea was it to take the elves, who have already lost nearly all their heritage and culture, and make their gods evil so that they’re forced to abandon that too. Seriously, what?

Imagine when Solas stabs Rook he cups their face and gently brushes his thumb over their cheek in apology. A little touch of affection to go along with the pain. A silent apology because it's the best he can offer them at the time.

the regret prison could have added some fascinating layers to the evanuris as villains too if veilguard had actually been interested in them as characters instead of cartoon villains—do they have regrets they don't want or can't admit to? does elgar'nan regret killing mythal? does ghilan'nain regret joining the evanuris? do they regret using the blight to try to become stronger? that last one especially could work if they'd leaned into the way being tainted affects your mind, because then they regret this thing that they are quite literally incapable of confronting and letting go because the blight won't let them! which would actually be clever. but instead they just go "ahahahaha i am going to blight everywhere and move the moon ahaha i am so evil" the entire game 💀
ahhh making them regret the blight would actually be so neat! i love that. anon you are too competent to be hired at bioware at this rate ✊
and yeah, i was never expecting like loghain style nuance from them, but they were SO one-note. just chewing the scenery. also even funnier when they're moving celestial bodies around but can still be defeated in a boss fight jdhgkjfd

It would have been cool if when we killed the Evanuris we saw their bodies disintegrate and harden into lyrium like with Meredith? They are created from lyrium, after all, and since Meredith is apparently wielding an artifact used to kill Mythal you could justify that what happened to her is a resonance of the past - lingering magic within the lyrium or something that backfired on her.
A throwback to DA2 and you even have the justification of having the lyrium idol-dagger?
I initially thought the lights and little explosion that happen when you kill Ghilan'nain in DATV were supposed to be a callback to killing the Archdemon in DAO. But then it's made clear that it's the dagger causing the light, and its not coming from Ghilan'nain. And then when Elgar'nan dies there's no light, and instead a vortex that sucks up Lusacan and I don't know what the hell that's about. There's no explanation. Where did he go? :(
They could have gone full DAO reference with the same lighting and colours as when the Warden slays the Archdemon (maybe even used the same musical theme!) or made it clear as to what the hell was happening. Because, somehow, we've managed to lose an Archdemon lmao.

Did anyone else realize we have absolutely no proof of Mythal’s loyalty to Solas when she was away from him?
🤔
Other than her word, and Solas’s Stockholm Syndrome, how do we KNOW she kept the same energy around the Evanuris when he wasn’t around to observe her?
👀
In fact, Elgar’nan even says that ‘by Mythal’s reckoning’ he was insubordinate. Could he be lying? Of course. But what if he’s not? What if when alone with the other Evanuris she was just as self involved and cruel?
🥲
Not to mention where was her wrath at the loss of her ‘sons’?! You’d think considering all she did to keep Solas as basically her ‘pet’ she would have had much more to say about the loss of Falon’din and Dirthamen.

Back on my nightly musings between writing chapters.
I want a Rook who isn’t afraid of death but doesn’t love it either.
Emmrich is afraid of death but he culturally reveres it. It’s the most powerful thing in the world. Death is the end to ALL things, it makes sense to fear something and to be allured by it at the same time.
No, I wanna see something far messier in my Emmrook ships… I need a Rook who despises death.
Death is cruel. Death takes from everything in the end and it has no mercy. It makes no mistake about what it’s consuming because all flesh is flesh. Pound for pound it’s all the same stuff on the chopping block.
I want a Rook who sees death like a force to be fought against because it DESERVES to be fought. Not out of fear but out of anger. Out of rage.
And then it leads into some sort of emotional healing journey specific to the Rook but I’m just spitballing here, I think it’s a fun idea lol

seeing wayyyyy too much vitriol toward neve for the crime of being a woman. really thought we had moved past this guys. lucanismancers i'm looking at you. maybe sit back and think about why you hate her so bad when all she's done is exist, have emotions, and flirt with a hot guy. "waah waah she's mean" except she's not though is she. she's just not nice to you if you choose treviso over her home (which is valid). she's still civil. she's never outright horrible. some of you are just looking for any excuse to hate her because you see her as competition, and maybe you should unpack that.

also that subset of that fandom that spends their time calling epler everything but a child of god bc he doesn't like solas paid absolute DUST to when epler made davrin's sacrifice more about his pet than him... their first visibly black male character and his death was all about his pet... so that just lets you know where their mind is at
