I finally got around to listening to “We Could Fly” by Sam Sparro (the song Logan puts on to help Thomas refocus it WTIT). first thing I noticed was that the line is “stop trying to hold the world” not “stop trying to rule the world” second thing I noticed was how much the song resembles certain scenes from that video. I don’t wanna make a super long post, so just listen to the song, because it’s incredible.

Here's the band covering Sam Sparro with his song Black & Gold back when we really got going in 2013. Sometimes songs will get stuck in my head & i need to learn them on guitar to purge them. This one is just such a song.

PROPAGANDA:
During ‘Power of Three’, the third arc in the series (Books 13-18), a mysterious outsider named Sol manipulates Blackstar into denouncing StarClan’s (Heaven’s) authority. The lyrics to Sam Sparro’s ‘Black & Gold’, which depict wavering faith in a higher power, read as if they could be Blackstar’s own doubtful thoughts, as Sol’s lies begin to steer him away from his ancestors. To date, no one in the Warriors animation community has picked this song up for a Blackstar project. It’s such an obvious choice to me.

(This mix was originally posted in June of 2012. I was putting all my playlists other places -- it was on 8tracks last time I posted it here years ago -- but Spotify seems to work the best these days maybe? WHO KNOWS! ANYWAYS, IT'S ON SPOTIFY NOW.)
This is "Flash In The Dark" - a fanmix dedicated to those bitchy/amazing twins from Dance Central 2, The Glitterati. Some of these songs are inspiring ("Born This Way"), some are prime for dancing ("Commander") and there's even a chill cool down lavishly-napping-in-the-Penthaus song ("Feel It All Around"). And you know, since some of The Glitterati's songs are blatantly and awesomely about all things sexual, I had to include some of that ("Flesh"). So if you're a fan of the Glitterati - or even just a fan of Dance Central or dancing in general - have a spin at this and don't be afraid to get up and move. ;)
Find the playlist on Spotify!

I would say 1/3rd of our shows are made up of covers. They usually rotate out again in half a year. Here's 99 Spirits covering a Sam Sparro song that burrowed like an earworm & wouldn't leave till I/we covered it.

hii big poppa, can I request you and reader whose a dancer, but she’s more modern contemporary, and one night she was doing a solo, got scared, and couldn’t find tom in the crowd so she panicked, still managed to finish but as soon as she was done she broke down crying backstage because she thought tom ditched on her but whole time he was cheering her on in the crowd, reader was also dancing to “black and gold” by Sam sparro 🧑🍳🧑🍳🧑🍳🧑🍳😘
BLACK AND GOLD | TOM KAULITZ

the theater was thick with anticipation, the kind of silence that makes your skin feel electric. the spotlight hit you, the floor cool beneath your bare feet. the music started — “black and gold” by sam sparro — its beat pulsing through the room like a heartbeat syncing with your own.
a song you’d picked carefully, deliberately, for him. the lyrics echoed everything you felt but hadn’t said out loud: strength, brilliance, the kind of glow only someone truly special could inspire.
you remembered the night you chose it, scrolling through playlists, searching for the perfect soundtrack for your solo. when “black and gold” started playing, you felt it — the pulse, the emotion, the way the beat wrapped around you like a promise. you’d told yourself this was the song for tom, your way of dancing your love and admiration into the world.
you moved like a storm restrained, every step and sway fluid, confident, but precise — modern contemporary at its most raw and beautiful. your body spoke in a language only you knew, expressing everything without a word. the way your arms curved, the arch of your back, the deliberate fall and rise of your chest — all weaving the story the song carried.
the crowd melted away, replaced by the rhythm and the light. and for a moment, you were weightless, untouchable.
but then, halfway through, your gaze flicked to the audience, seeking out one face. tom. your anchor.
only he wasn’t there.
panic flickered in your chest, sharp and sudden, like cold water dousing a flame. you scanned every row, every shadow, every flicker of movement — but tom was nowhere to be found.
your mind raced faster than your feet could move. the music pounded louder, but your steps faltered, the flawless flow you’d owned just moments ago splintering. you fought to keep dancing, to finish your solo with the strength and grace you knew you had inside, but the weight of his absence pressed down hard.
your breaths came quicker, shallow, panicked.
how could he forget?
how could he not show up?
the questions stabbed at you with every step, louder than the music, harder than the cheers. your movements wavered as the thought swallowed your focus. you searched the crowd with frantic eyes, heart pounding like a trapped bird.
did he not want to be there?
did something come up?
was it me?
the panic rose, hot and heavy, fogging your mind.
the final notes faded, applause rising around you like a wave, but your heart wasn’t in it. you bowed mechanically, chest tight, eyes still darting to find him.
as soon as you left the stage, the mask shattered.
backstage, you collapsed into a quiet corner, tears spilling over like a dam breaking. the world blurred, your sobs muffled beneath your hands.
you felt so small, abandoned in a sea of strangers — convinced tom had left you.
the song, your choice, meant to be a gift — a connection — felt like a cruel joke.
as your tears spilled and your breath hitched, a gentle hand touched your shoulder.
“hey, are you okay?”
you looked up to see one of the other dancers — a kind-faced girl with soft eyes and a voice like a warm hug.
“what’s wrong?” she asked softly, sitting down beside you without waiting for an answer.
your throat tightened, words stuck like knots. you wanted to tell her everything — how you’d picked that song for tom, how you’d searched the crowd and not found him, how your heart shattered with every beat of the music.
but before you could speak, the backstage door creaked open.
there he was — tom, eyes wide, face full of worry and something else — regret.
“hey.” he said quietly, stepping closer.
the girl smiled encouragingly, then slipped away, leaving you alone with him.
you felt raw and exposed, but also relieved.
tom knelt down in front of you, his voice gentle.
“i’m here.” he said simply.
and in that moment, all the fear and confusion started to melt away.
without thinking, you flung yourself into his arms, the sobs breaking free.
tom reached out, gently brushing a tear from your cheek. his voice was soft, tender—like he was speaking just for you. “why are you crying, baby? i don’t like seeing you like this.”
“i didn’t think you were there.” you whispered, voice shaking.
he kissed your temple gently. “i was there. the loudest one in the crowd.”
you lifted your head and he cupped your face, still wiping away the tears that had stained your cheeks. “why didn’t you come backstage?”
“thought you needed space. plus…” he smirked, voice dropping low and teasing, “i wanted to see if you’d miss me.”
you laughed through the tears, the panic melting into relief.
“big mistake,” you said, grinning, “i missed you like crazy.”
he pulled you close again. “next time, i’ll be right there when you finish — and maybe reward you properly.”
you raised an eyebrow, heart lighter than it had been all night.
“oh yeah?”
“oh yeah.”
and just like that, the fear was gone, replaced by something warm, safe — and undeniably yours.

Dancing With Visions - My Dear Partner - Jive - Heizou
Author Notes: The Jive is an interesting, incredibly lively, and up-beat dance that belongs to the Latin dancing family but is often viewed as intrinsically connected to the Swing style of dancing as well. Possibly due to the fact it is often danced to Swing music. The performance in this fic was heavily inspired by Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Meryl Davis’s Jive to Hound Dog by Elvis from Season 18 Episode 9 Of “Dancing with the Stars” and the dance scene from the 1999 film “Blast the to the Past” to Mr. Zoot Suit by Ingrid Lucia & the Flying Neutrinos. The Fic itself was written to “Black and Gold” by Sam Sparro. Just like the rest of this series, Reader is female. I hope you enjoy!
If you would like to read more of this series, the fics can be found here: Dancing with Visions Masterlist.
Type: Female reader/ dance/ fluff/ flirtation /sfw
Word Count: 1316

I walked alongside Heizou, my hand looped through his arm and resting lightly on his elbow as we entered the room that was already filled with dancing couples.
I swallowed slightly in the face of the large number of people and glanced his way, “So you're sure the suspect is in here?”
Heizou bobbed his head, not even pausing as he continued to walk with me further into the room, “Positive.”
He glanced my way, a smooth smile sliding across his face, like he could tell exactly how nervous I was at a mere glance. And maybe he could. This was Inazuma’s famed and beyond-talented detective I was dealing with after all.
His arms slipped back and wrapped around me as he rubbed my back soothingly, “Relax; you and I are just the distraction. The boys’ll handle catching him.”
I nodded, inhaling slightly before looking out onto the floor, noting exactly how crowded it was with a frown, “And you’re sure dancing the jive is the best way to do that with all of these people here?”
Heizou hummed, tapping along to the beat of the music on my back as he nodded, “Seems like the target has an interest in foreign dances, and besides, I know how to dance the jive pretty well. We’ll stand out, and he’ll definitely take notice of us.”
I shot him a glance, and he shrugged slightly, “What? I taught you, so you know it too.”
I half-rolled my eyes as I shook my head and considered how, not only would we stand out, but that people would also have to shift to give us room if we were going to be dancing the jive of all things.
Heizou slid to the side, reaching out down and taking my hand and holding it up between us as he inclined his head towards me before squeezing my hand slightly with a grin spreading across his face, “So are you with me, partner?”
I eyed him before nodding, a smile flickering across my face before I rolled my shoulders in preparation, “Till the end.”
My words brought a smile to his face as he turned to face me, starting to snap his fingers to the beat as he backed up and led me into the throng of dancing people, his eyes never leaving my face.
I bobbed my head to the music, adjusting myself to the rhythm as he took a sudden step back, our arms stretching out between us for that brief instant before he pulled me towards him.
I spun under his arm on impulse, my eyes widening, before a startled smile crossed my face as he tugged me back towards him. Immediately entering closed hold with me and swaying with me to the steady but pounding rhythm.
People shifted to make room for us as we spun across the room, leaning into each spin until there was a ring of people around us. All of them watching our motions with widened eyes. But the jive was a strange dance to be doing in Inazuma, of all places. It was different from all of the dances found in this country.
We separated, staying side-by-side and mirroring each other as we kicked lightly to the rhythm of the music that infected the space.
We turned back towards each other, his hand reaching out and catching mine as we twisted lightly along the floor.
He glanced at me, his green eyes glimmering with mischievousness, and I nodded. Releasing his hand, clasping my hands around his neck, and giving a little hop. Letting him catch me with both of my legs resting on one of his hips before he swung me on around his body.
I found myself laughing as my feet hit the ground, and he reached out, grabbing my hand and pulling me back towards him so that our hands locked themselves together and we danced. Kicking our legs out to the side and mirroring each other more before we broke apart again.
Spontaneity and high energy. He told me those two things were key to the jive, but somehow I felt like each of the motions he guided me through were specifically selected for some reason he only knew.
His eyes were alight in that way they always were when his mind was moving a mile a minute, but I had no idea what was going through his head as his gaze stayed steadily on me. Like nothing could distract him from my person.
Each spin seemed to have the world blurring around me until I was looking his way once more or we broke apart to do careful partner work that relied solely on our ability to match one another perfectly without having him to guide me.
But Heizou never seemed to doubt me, even though I had to read every cue possible to figure out what his next motion would be.
I found I was already half-out of breath as he turned back to me, holding out his arms and taking hold of me once more to march me backwards with gleeful hopping motions. Like we weren’t the distraction that was going to allow the Tenryou Commission to catch the criminal we were after.
I glanced over his shoulder and spotted men moving through the crowd; their gaze pointed at someone behind me.
My eyes darted back towards Heizou, and I nodded slightly, signaling him that the men were here. He nodded, pulling me towards him as I gave a little hop. Knowing exactly what move he wanted to do.
The hard one that would be the one most likely to hold everyone’s attention.
I swallowed as his gaze turned more focused, and he lifted me, swinging my legs from one side to the other around him before he swung me directly towards him.
I looped my legs over his hips and around his waist, ignoring the hush that went over the crowd because this was the only way he could ever get the momentum he needed for us to do this move.
I felt us both suck in a breath before he swung me directly upward, turning my body upside down. His hands pressed into my back as I kicked, scissoring my bent legs in the air before he swung me down.
But it had the effect we needed, stunning everyone, who soon broke into excited cheers around us. We’d not only distracted the target, but no one even seemed to notice as the men from the Tenryou led the criminal out of the building.
They must have caught him while I was upside down.
We weren’t done yet, though. We had to keep everyone distracted until the Tenryou commission men and the suspect were out of the building.
Heizou stepped back as he held one of my hands, letting me lean my weight back against him as I did the light kicking motions before he pulled me back towards him.
Dancing with me before we parted and spun in perfect time with each other before he reached out. And my hand found his without me even having to look so that we could pivot one more time before we separated from one another. Taking our finishing poses just as the song ended.
We were both breathing heavily as we straightened, nodding and even waving slightly at the applause that sounded around us before he took my hand once more and led me out of the crowd that was already reconverging on the floor.
I swallowed, glancing his way with a smile, relieved that it was all over, before I spoke, “Looks like your plan was a success.”
He grinned, his own breathing still heavy as he nodded, tugging me over a little closer to him before he let go of my hand and swung his arm around my shoulders, “All thanks to you, my dear partner.”

Just noticed that in "Working THROUGH Intrusive Thoughts", when Thomas leaves and we get the shot of Logan looking around the space, the lyrics from the song in the dance scene which had been appearing throughout the rest of the episode ("We Could Fly" by Sam Sparro) are, "stop trying to hold the world"
IM SO UNWELL

My, oh, my
Turn around and see that sign
Flashing at you like a light
Think about it more than twice
Because it's high time, it's high time, say bye-bye
We can't keep going on like that
And when you turn it down
Then you'll finally hear that sound
We break down and we break through
Cause we can't touch the sky
But sometimes we can get a little closer
If we let go, stop trying to hold the world
It's like the first time we felt like we could fly
We could fly
Been through the fire, we made it out alive
We're alive
Sp now we try
Earning things we cannot buy
No matter how you roll the die
The thirst could not be satisfied
And you find out the hideout is taking you down
It's just a fantasy
Step towards a love that's free
Send us into ecstasy
We break down and we break through
Cause we can't touch the sky
But sometimes we can get a little closer
If we let go, stop trying to hold the world
It's like the first time we felt like we could fly
We could fly
Been through the fire, we made it out alive
We're alive
Felt like we could fly
Felt like we could fly
Felt like we could fly
Felt like we could fly
It's like the first time we felt like we could fly
We could fly
Been through the fire, we made it out alive
We're alive

If I were to tell my 18-year-old self that at 35 I'd be listening to "Black & Gold" by Sam Sparro for HOURS on repeat while writing a chapter of my nearly 350,000-word mlm series, I'm pretty sure she'd be halfway through an exorcism right now.
ANYWHO, past-me can freaking deal. HERE'S THE SONG:
