Hello, it’s Spring and primaries for 2018 midterm is just starting. We recapped Texas two weeks ago, and now it’s time for Illinois. Don’t worry, only 18 districts this time, but the primaries are quite competitive, so hold on your hats...

IL-01(Chicagoland - Manhattan, Blue Island, Hyde Park): Incumbent - Bobby Rush (Dem), a civil right activist. Challenger - Jimmy Tillman. PVI: D+27

IL-02(Chicagoland - Kankakee, Chicago Heights, South Chicago): Incumbent - Robin Kelly (Dem) one of few black female in the House. Challenger - David Merkle, seems like an average dude, but look at the... PVI: D+29

IL-03(Chicagoland - Bridgeport, Bridgeview, Lockport): Incumbent - Dan Lipinski (Dem), conservative in disguise who had a tough primary challenge, but oh well... Challenger - Arthur Jones, he’s a real life Nazi! PVI: D+6

IL-12(Southern Illinois - Belleville, Carbondale, Mt Vernon): Incumbent - Mike Bost (Rep), typical weak-spined member. Challenger - Brendan Kelly, local representative and seems a good fit for the district. PVI: R+5

IL-13(Central Illinois - Litchfield,Springfield, Decatur): Incumbent - Rodney Davis (Rep), another moderate. Challenger - Betsy Londrigan, fundraising person who worked for Durbin, focus on healthcare. PVI: R+3

IL-14(Northern Illinois - Woodstock, Elburn, Plainfield): Incumbent - Randy Hultgren (Rep), quite right-skewing such a swing district. Challenger - Lauren Underwood, nurse and former advisor to HHS. PVI: R+5

IL-15(Southern Illinois - Danville, Effingham, Fairfield): Incumbent - John Shimkus (Rep), crony for energy corps. Challenger - Kevin Gaither. PVI: R+21

IL-16(Central Illinois - Belvidere, Lasalle, Watseka): Incumbent - Adam Kinzinger (Rep), who rallied against Planned Parenthood during Sutherland Spring shootings? Challenger - Sara Dady, immigration lawyer. PVI: R+8

IL-17(Western Illinois - Freeport, Galesburg, Peoria): Incumbent - Cheri Bustos (Dem), only one not from Chicago area... otherwise fine. Challenger - Bill Fawell, who has a libertarian streak. PVI: D+3

IL-18(Western Illinois - Quincy, Jacksonville, Bloomington): Incumbent - Darin LaHood (Rep), won in a special election with last name recognition. Challenger - Junius Rodriguez, long-time opponent. PVI R+15

That’s the gist of this disappoint primaries. Next one of this caliber won’t appearing till May, so that’ll be nice for those who don’t like long posts.
