tbh the biggest thing that drives me towards synthv and cevio/voisona 2.0 isnt even the smoothness and clean "realism" of it all, its actually the fact that said realism allows for more variation in vocal provider pronunciation mouth and tongue positions etc to shine through. i know people in da vsynth scene often use "character" to refer to a voice's robotic or engine noise-y elements (i assume because of piapro and such) specifically but i think the character that comes directly from the vocal samples/training itself is a little underappreciated. cevio ia's か゚-y がs <3

Mitsumasa Kido’s my number 1 opp

Manga verse - I know the author preferred to focus on emotions and intensity rather than consistency, but I wanted to yap for a bit.

We are told that all 100 Kido children are orphans. But there is a bunch of inconsistencies with this scenario...

First a recap :

As we know, Kido fathered them all. They show a flashback of him in tome 7 with baby Athena, explaining that he has 100 kids (so he knows), and asking god why he chose him. (He's speaking by himself) Riiiiight after, he decides all by himself that he should sacrifice them, comparing himself to Abraham. Note that no god answered him, he concluded all this on his own. He also mentions that he's old with only a couple years left (later proven right) and that after this HE put the kids in orphanage, so they don't have emotional connections.

There's a LOT to unpack.

First of all, ok, asshole, you're literally putting fake words in an (in this precise case) non-existent god to justify your terrible actions. No, you didn't HAVE to put those boys through all of this, you CHOSE to do this. You could've literally hired soldiers with a good cosmos potential and train have them train to become knights or even contacted some knights themselves to convince them to deflect Saga, since clearly you had enough connection to send a whole 100 kids to train for cloths.

You KNEW you had 100 kids? Not 10, 15 or even 20 but you knew about a whole century worth of your crotch goblins. Just how? They’re in 1986, so no internet, you need an annuary to find a number or send letters to communicate. And he has at least an ex-partner living in Russi, which currently is technically the URSS. That means either ALL these women were willing to tell him they had given birth (sometimes twice, like Shun and Ikki’s mother) and willing to update him about his sons, despite him clearly not being a part of their life since by age 5-9 they had no idea who he was. OR he has enough money, spies and whatever to be able to stalk all of them for no reason apparently, since he hadn’t met Athena yet. (You won’t get to believe an old rich man with an official heir would care about all 100 of his kids, especially since he quite literally doesn’t, as it takes him 5 minutes max to decide to sacrifice all of their lives)

You’re so old you’re almost a foot in the coffin already? And you have a hundred BABIES ?? Cuz’ yeah, he had all his 100 children within 2-3 years when he was already this old??? And his official heir is ALSO a baby at the time, being like 3 years old??? Also, how do you have no daughter?

Seika, let’s talk about her. Technically, she could Seiya’s half sister not related to Kido. But that’s kind of unlikely, given the overall trajectory. So does he simply not count the daughters? Does he actually have 200+ kids??? THAT’S EVEN WORSE.

You put them in orphanage ? So they weren’t in one at first…?

WHAT DID HE DO TO THE  MOMS ????

Killed them all, let's not lie to oursleves, it's clearly not above him, given all either informations we have, and he clearly won't go bankrupt because of a couple hitmans. I'd count Natassia in there, since her death was super sketchy. Seriously, HOW was she the one left on the boat ??? And the only one, too ? Should would have been with Hyoga the entire time, so she wasn't late or something, also 80's mentality, women and kids first...

Killed some, bought other over, and just took the kids from the other. By all logic, those women weren't like nobles he met at parties or things like that. They were most likely poor woman he manipulated, porstitutes or....victims... (Old wealthy man in 80's japaanse society, you do the math)

Somehow manipulated them into thinking he was taking their son in to give him a better live, on the condition that she wouldn't interfere. He was rich after all, so a mother without big revenue would probably want to do the best for her child, not knowing what horrors she would put him trough.

And all that for what ? Sure, Seiya and the 9 others became knights, and the bronze 5 were even powerful. BUT 90 died ??? Couldn't he at least have done a cosmos check, to at least make sure they had a chance ???

I have a main theory, that is simple but blodd curling. He clearly wanted them all to die. And using Saori's presence was a perfect excuse to get rid of his bastards, invoking divine autority to justify his crimes. See ? It even worked on Saori herself, who considers her grandfather a saint for the whole story, even asking the bronzes not to see him as a monster.

I hate this old man.

One morning Seika wakes up with a sticky note stuck to her forehead. She peels the thing off and flips it over to see a note that just says “IOU”.

The note isn’t signed, but there’s a little doodle of a face with a shark teeth grin, which at least answers the question of who left the note.

But what is the note for?

Seika inwardly groans and crumples the sticky note in her palm. Whatever it is, she’ll chew out her for it later.

She rolls out of bed, stretches her arms above her head, then trudges out of her room and into the kitchen where Nijika is already making breakfast.

Nijika glances up from the skillet she’d been frying something in.

“Onee-chan, good mor— huh?”

“Mmm. Good morning,” Seika mumbles before plopping herself down in a chair.

“Er, Onee-chan… what happened to your…?” Nijika points a finger up to her own hair.

“My what?”

“Your— just look.” Nijika grabs Seika by the hand and drags her to the bathroom.

Seika takes a look at herself in the bathroom mirror. She blinks, tries rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, then warily reaches a hand up to the top of her scalp.

But her eyes do not deceive; the Dorito is really gone.

“She took it,” Seika says, voice vindictive.

Just by her sister’s tone of voice, Nijika can already figure out who she is.

Seika lets out a guttural noise. “If I strangle Hiroi, do you think they’ll believe it was self defense?”

“Probably not.”

Seika grunts in response, then takes one last look at the crumpled up sticky note in her palm before violently dunking it into the toilet.

Dream Conversation 1997 - Kuze Seika and Hanafusa Mari

This cute conversation, featuring stories about Hanafusa’s admiration for Kuze during her hatsubutai days and anecdotes from events they worked on together, was published in the March 1997 issue of Kageki. At the time, Kuze Seika was in the middle of her final show as Top Star of Moon Troupe, and Hanafusa Mari was Top Musumeyaku of Snow Troupe.

Dream ♥️ Conversation 1997 - Kuze Seika and Hanafusa Mari Kuze: You gave me a gift and a note for the first time when you were in music school, didn’t you?

Hanafusa: Until then, I wasn’t really into Takarazuka. Some of my classmates would say things like they had been big fans of someone for a long time, but I didn’t have that kind of experience. One day, while we were still in the first year, one of my classmates watched Kuze-san's starring performance, BLUFF, and came back saying it was incredible! She was raving about it in the dormitory bath that night. That was just before the senshuuraku of BLUFF. She urged me, "You absolutely must see it", so I went to watch it. That was the beginning.

Kuze: Was it your downfall? (laughs)

Hanafusa: After that, I completely fell in love with you, Kuze-san! I had never been interested in becoming someone’s fan before, so my classmates were surprised by how much I had changed and began supporting me wholeheartedly. They encouraged me, saying things like, “The raku is soon, you should send her a gift” or “Write her a letter”. With their help, we went together to buy a gift for you.

Kuze: Since you used your real name, I thought you were an otokoyaku. Then, Ton-chan (Murasaki) looked at the name and said, "I think that’s a really cute girl". I thought, "Huh, interesting". Then, you came to our troupe for your hatsubutai.

Hanafusa: That’s not quite right, at the culture festival, I received a gift from Kuze-san.

Kuze: Oh, right, that’s true. (laughs)

Hanafusa: I remember it clearly. After a performance, I came back feeling hot and thirsty, grabbed a juice box, and started sipping it without knowing who it was from. Then I wondered whose it was—and it turned out to be from you, Kuze-san! I screamed, “Look, look! Ku—Ku—Kuze-san gave me this!” It was such an unexpected and delightful surprise, and my classmates celebrated with me.

Kuze: (laughs)

Hanafusa: My hatsubutai was with the Moon Troupe. On the shuugoubi, it was the underclassmen’ responsibility to organize and hand over the fan letters that had accumulated during the break to the upperclassmen. I really want to be the one to deliver Kuze-san’s letters! Everyone knew it, so they handed me Kuze-san’s letters and said "Dai-chan (Hanafusa), take these to her!” I remember that moment so clearly. When I entered the rehearsal room, you were wearing a black leather coat and sitting in the farthest corner. The distance to your seat felt so far, and as I carried the letters, I kept muttering to myself, “Will she notice me? No, she won’t recognize me…” Murasaki Tomo-san was nearby and pointed me out, saying, “This is the girl.” You smiled and said, “Thank you, as always.” That moment is still vivid in my memory.

Kuze: During your hatsubutai performance, I still remember how you always stood there, slightly tilting your head and smiling brightly. I’m the type who isn’t very sociable with underclassmen. When they offered to help, I would usually say, "It’s fine, I can manage on my own." But Hana-chan (Hanafusa) would smile cheerfully and say, "I want to do it, so I will!" You were the kind of person who tore through my shell and broke down my walls.

Hanafusa: Did I really?

Kuze: Yes, eventually, I got used to it. You never overstepped and always helped in just the right way, striking the perfect balance. In the end, I think I ended up relying on you.

Hanafusa: After the performance, I would always wait, wondering when Kuze-san might call for me. When I heard “Dai-chan!” from afar, it made me so happy. While most people find their hatsubutai nerve-wracking and full of first-time challenges, I just found it incredibly fun.

Kuze: After we were in different troupes, there were times we stood next to each other during the TMP Music Festival finale parade. And when I guest-starred in the Snow Troupe as Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind, we had a brief interaction during the party scene. Then, when we worked together on the radio program "Onatsu Seijuro", I realized just how earnest and dedicated Hana-chan really is. I’m serious too, but sometimes I get a bit shy and joke around to lighten the mood. But Hana-chan was so focused that you'd laugh nervously and say, “Please stop!” while adjusting your voice. That’s when I thought, “Hanafusa Mari is truly such a serious person.”

Hanafusa: I was so nervous back then. Even last year, when we performed Eternal Tale together during the TCA Special, I was incredibly nervous.

Kuze: I’m glad we got to do it together. The radio work was fun, but after so many years, Hana-chan had become a Top Musumeyaku and built your own career, and I had done various things in my own way, collaborating again with someone I rarely get to work with was truly a great experience.

Hanafusa: On the first day of rehearsal, I was so nervous, wondering, “What will she think of me?" "What if she thinks I’m terrible?” But performing alongside Kuze-san, the person I had admired since my debut, felt truly surreal and deeply moving. Lately, I haven’t had many opportunities to watch Kuze-san’s performances…

Kuze: Whenever you come to watch, you always greet me with a radiant smile, saying, “I’m here to watch today!” In those moments, you look so carefree and pure, just like you were in your hatsubutai days.

Hanafusa: In front of Kuze-san, I feel like I go back to being my hatsubutai self.

Kuze: But even back then, you had a strong sense of self. You weren’t just smiling, there was a quiet, steadfast strength in you, almost a kind of independence. You also had such elegance. Roles like Elisabeth were truly a perfect fit for you. I also loved your performance as Natasha in Natasha of the Rainbow. Watching you in the furisode kimono, darting energetically, was like watching a puppy wagging its tail in excitement—it was absolutely adorable.

Hanafusa: I feel like I’ve relaxed a bit since those days. Back then, I was always so desperate, thinking, “I can’t do it, so I have to push myself even harder,” and I would get completely absorbed in the role. I couldn’t let go of the tension at all. But then, I got to play Natasha, a character with a completely opposite image to Elisabeth, and before I knew it, I even found myself laughing backstage.

Kuze: Before Natasha, you didn’t even have time to smile, did you?

Hanafusa: Even when I smiled, I would immediately switch back to being serious. But with Natasha, it felt like I could step on stage while still smiling backstage. Since then, people around me have started saying that my expression seems to have softened.

Kuze: Changes like that are often something the people around you notice first, like, “Oh, something’s different!” And when that happens, it might unknowingly make things easier for those around you as well, which is a good thing. In Takarazuka, when the onnayaku is strong, it makes the otokoyaku shine too. When a onnayaku has a strong core, it makes the stage much more engaging. Hana-chan, you’re like that, and so is Yuuko (Kazahana)—both of you have a solid presence as musumeyaku. Working with people like that makes things easier for otokoyaku  as well. I think the changes in you are wonderful, Hana-chan. When you’re in that state, I think you’ll be able to enjoy whatever comes your way.

Hanafusa: Is that so? Today, I had the chance to watch Kuze-san's farewell performance, and as I watched, I couldn’t help but think how amazing your slicked-back hairstyle still looks. Please don’t think I’m weird for saying this! I love Kuze-san's warm singing voice and the way you deliver your lines—I love everything about you—but my very first admiration was for your slicked-back hairstyle. That hasn’t changed since my days at music school, and I realized that again today. Knowing that Kuze-san is retiring makes me feel truly sad. You were my first inspiration and have always been extraordinary presence to me.

Kuze: Hana-chan, I’m sure you believe that the one you’re working with now are the best, but the feelings you had during your hatsubutai are something entirely different, aren’t they?

Hanafusa: Yes, in front of you, Kuze-san, I always become my younger self again. You’ve been watching over me since I was a ken-1 student.

Kuze: It really is such a mysterious bond, isn’t it? We don’t see each other often, but when we do run into each other somewhere, we suddenly start talking about roles or dive into a lively conversation. Hana-chan, you’ve always been the type to break right through my shell and come in so openly, which made you stand out to me as someone special. There’s just something about you that lingers in my mind—when I happen to see you, I find myself wondering, “Is she doing well?” As a performer, your natural talent is undeniable, but you also have a kind of presence that feels like the gods are always smiling down on you. Japanese Comprehensible Input, How Many Hours of Content:

As a companion to my last post, this post is going to link a ton of comprehensible input lessons and other resources that can be used as comprehensible input, and how many hours of content it adds up to. I'd like to shout out r/ALGhub that has a list of Aural Resources for Japanese, and CIJapanese has a Resources Page of other materials besides their own lessons that can be used for getting comprehensible input in japanese. CIJapanese.com has more videos on their site for a paid subscription, and a free youtube channel with lessons, I've only counted the youtube lesson hours in this estimate. I appreciate the cijapanese.com website and teachers, and may pursue using their paid video lessons in the future.

I would suggest that in addition to all of these video resources, you supplement using audio-only resources like the podcasts listed on https://cijapanese.com/resources, https://comprehensibleinputwiki.org/wiki/Main_Page#Japanese, and any other podcasts you can find and understand.

Other options to get more comprehensible input: children's cartoons if there's visual context clues, vlogs especially if they're vlogs about what they do in a day/the visuals directly relate to what's going on, audio books of graded reading materials you're reading (or TTS of the graded reading material if that's the only option available) - an app like Satori Reader with graded reading material and audio would work well, rewatching shows in japanese that you've seen before (japanese dubbed shows, anime in japanese dub, jdramas), replaying games in japanese that you've played before, watching let's plays of games you've played/seen before, new shows in japanese if your level of comprehension is enough to follow the main idea (shows where the visual context is related to what they're saying will be easier - such as romance shows, slice of life shows, some reality shows, cooking shows, action shows where they talk about what they're doing, crime solving shows where they talk about the objects in the scenes).
