adamsapple shallow Hal au
Adam as rosemary
Lucifer as Hal
if you don’t know about shallow Hal it’s a movie about a man who is granted the ability to see how a person is on the inside. He meets a girl who is obese but sees her as a beautiful thin woman.
I just like that idea with Adam and Lucifer
Here’s a clip from the movie to give you guys an idea

Thinking about Shallow Hal...
Thinking about how so many people will probably brush it off and call the movie problematic because it was made in 2001 and on the surface it does have the mindset of "skinny = beautiful" and "fat = ugly"
But it's literally the most transformative anti fatphobic message ever and nothing has been done like it since. And it is the only film I have ever seen (probably aside from Penelope from 2006) to genuinely take the message of "beauty is more than skin deep" and "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and actually fucking deliver it to an audience
The way that it shows a fat woman's experience in finding love with such intense nuance, being embarrassed and fearful and anxious and being afraid of being used and fetishized, and still being trepidatious even when she knows she has found true love. The way that it takes a man who is so fucking shallow and dismantles him right down to being disgusted by a 'hot' woman's abrasive personality and bad smoking habit and happily volunteering with child burn victims and seeing them as they are - beautiful, innocent people.
I will forever be thankful that I saw the movie at a young age. And I reccomend that other people watch it if they haven't seen it

Shallow Hal, a 2001 film by Brothers Peter Farrelly & Bob Farrelly, Mauricio (Jason Alexander) explains to Hal Larsen (Jack Black) you can't make a comeback after 8 seconds and you have 3 or 5 seconds tops. "That's why they call it a quip, not a slow."

What is your favorite era for a romance? Suggestions for what to watch?
Era..? Time periods? Doesn't really matter, though I don't fully enjoy stories set beyond the 20th century, because distant time periods involuntarily make me think about unfortunate historical facts concerning life, death, women, potential power dynamics, all that. For example, if the male lead is an old timey Japanese emperor, that affects the sincerity of the story for me, because in real life, he'd have 10 other women to his disposal. If this man tells his love interest "There's only you lol desu", then sure, that's romantic. As for romances to watch, I've always liked the movie Shallow Hal, and I guess there's My Love Story, Skip Beat, and Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro. Tomo-chan is a Girl and From Me to You I'm sure most people think are great as well.

Hot take: I know a lot of people think Shallow Hal is problematic (body shaming, fat suit, etc) but we clearly know that’s not the point of the movie. The moral of the story is that it’s the inside that counts. Someone’s heart and personality is more important than their body. When you fall in love with someone for who they are, you don’t see the “flaws” that shallow people see and you love every part of them. That’s what this movie was trying to teach and putting Gwenyth Paltrow in a fat suit and showing people making fun of different bodies was the way they had to teach that.
Now, I got to thinking: how would Hal see me while he’s hypnotized? Like we all have flaws and I’m not trying to self sabotage or whatever but it’s just something interesting. Would I be thinner? Taller? No acne? I’d probably look like Gwenyth Paltrow I guess lol
The other thing is, how did he not know how big she was when hugging her or when they made love? Does the hypnosis also make her feel thinner to him? I just wanna know the science behind this lol did the writers just not think about that? How did his arms not be around an “invisible” space? Idk I feel like that would add some extra detail to the movie. It doesn’t matter, but I have so many thoughts about this movie that I’ve never talked about because of the controversy.
There are also HOT deleted scenes that should have been in the movie.
The Cadence scene was sad. I am SHOOK every time I see it. Like he even saw her without physical flaws and when he realizes she’s a burn victim AGH it just 😭 also interesting because I thought he only saw women as flawless so when we realize he also sees the girls as flawless I was like oh? So it’s not an attraction thing it’s just flawless in general? Is it only females or all people? SO many questions about this silly little movie WOW I’m autistic if you hadn’t noticed anyway

My Top 5 Romcoms
Okay so in this last week leading up to valentines day the movie channels have been showing many a romcom and so I decided to conduct an experiment. To think about what my top 5 romcoms are and then see if there's any correlation in what I like or don't like in my romantic comedies (spoiler alert yes there is). This is my top 5 I ended up with, which at a glance not very linear buuut stay with me.
No. 5 Man Up
Soo Man Up was a barely seen romcom from 2015 that is my most recent on the list. Simon Pegg and Lake Bell are the stars, it's about a 34 year old woman who hijacks someone else's date when she accidentally get's mistaken for Simon Pegg's blind date. So they go on the date and have an amazing and hilarious time. This movie isjust very funny and the Nancy character is very relatable. Those first few minutes where she get's dressed, second guesses her lipstick, wipes it off before finally giving up and watching Silence of the Lambs in bed and ordering room service? Cest Magnifique!
No. 4 13 Going On 30
It's darn cute okay? The outfits she wears are amazing and Jennifer Garner just gives a great performance. Mark Ruffalo ain't so bad neither! I don't really need to say what happens cause people have seen it, she get's magic dusted into 30 and reconnects with her old best friend and man she realises she loves, it's just cute ass fun. Plus this movie soundtrack is so freaking solid man 10/10.
No. 3 Down With Love
It. End's. With. A. Musical. Number. IT ENDS WITH A MUSICALNUMBER! So enough said! But seriously this movie is also criminally under viewed I won't say rated because most people who have actually seen it love it! It's set in the 1960's, the outfits and set design are freaking incredible. The plot is funny, zany and poking fun at certain tropes. Plus it stars Renee Zellwegger and Ewan McGregor and they're absolutely adorable as the leads. Plus did I mention it end's with a musical number?
No. 2 Shallow Hal
I have already written a post defending or rather really just explaining why I still love this movie despite the fat suits. To make it real quick though basically Shallow Hal does a way better Beauty and the Beast than the source does. Hal is the shallow asshole so he's the one who has to learn to look past appearances not the woman! Plus the real Rosie (Gwyneth Paltrow's character) isn't just movie big (looking at you Bridget Jones!) she is genuinely a big woman and Hal still loves her because she's also sweet and funny BUT she can also be guarded and wary of people. Basically she's a real 3 dimensional person and I love that. I find it very funny, I find their romance very sweet and that hospital scene? I fricken tear up every time. This movie is flawed true but I love it anyways.
No. 1 Pretty Woman
This movie is the oldest on the list. It also might feel like an outlier but I'll explain later why it's not as much of one as you'd think. So Pretty Woman is a classic. Sure people also have problems with this movie too and I don't care. If anything I find it less problematic than some other romcoms! Vivian and Edward are two consenting adult's who know what they're getting into. There is a power imbalance BUT when Vivian does try and leave Edward doesn't stop her. He does go to ask her to stay but that's cool cause she wants to. Anyway mini rant over I love this movie. Ironically it's plot means it can do something a lot of romcoms can't or won't, have it's main couple be unabashedly and openly attracted to each other and for the most part honest with each other! They really are! They both lay down their rules, they have sex the first night (duh) but like that's really refreshing for me. They get to go on these romantic outings, they slowly open up to each other, enjoy each other's company a lot. Plus even when the walls do start to come down they are still pretty honest about it actually. She told him what it means to her to kiss on the lips, so when she does it's not just us who realise what she's saying without words, it's him. When he offers her the penthouse she doesn't like break down or feel betrayed (she's a bit hurt I'm sure don't get me wrong) she just blatantly tells him that is not what she wants, as always she is honest. She wants the fairy tale BUT she doesn't expect it as a given, she feels mature in that way. I love Vivian in this movie because of that. And then obviously Edward realises what he's losing out on and goes to her in true romantic fashion, he faces his fears and climbs her balcony and in Vivian's own words she rescues him right back. I do love fairytales and I love this movie.
CONCULISONS!
So did ranking my favourites show me something about my taste in romcoms? Yes. 1) I don't like misunderstanding tropes or lying with malicious intentions tropes in my romcoms! So basically think 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' 'Made in Manhattan' etc. Icky yuck no thanks! 'Shallow Hal' does involve a misunderstanding BUT it's not cause he's purposefully lying or being a dick, he himself is also having a misunderstanding due to the plot of hypnosis soo don't count that. Yes 'Man Up' involves a lie BUT I specifically dislike lies with cruel intentions (hehe another great film) I don't think her stealing the date was done in malice so much as an instant click with Simon Pegg which girl I get it. 'Down With Love' is literally parodying those very tropes and is wackadoodle enough that it's just hilarious, it doesn't ever feel cruel. Basically I don't like mean romcoms, shockingly I enjoy mine either very comedic or very romantic.
My list is mostly funny films with cute romance. Pretty Woman being the more romantic one (and most romantic romcom in my opinion). And so number 2) I don't dig the haters to lovers trope that much. There are a couple films out there that do that trope really well and usually have the chemistry to back it up, again 'Down With Love' is basically parodying that trope too, but that's why it works. Usually that trope either isn't cute enough or it's just downright too mean and vicious, why do people like 'Sweet Home Alabama'?!? Anyways I like my couples to genuinely just fricken like each other, have fun together and be romantic for most of the movie not just ten minutes at the end when they realise their glaring disgust for each other was actually love all along (supposedly). All those ranked movies? The couples go on dates, outings, hang out and have cute interactions, It's my jam! Same reason I don't re watch a lotta the Meg Ryan movies, NOT cause they're mean but the couples don't spend much time together as a couple. There's the long distance thing or the whole popping in and out of each other's lives a lot, 'When Harry Met Sally' is a great film but it ain't my go to romcom.
Finally 3) I don't like my leading men too stereotypically handsome/charming. So look all 4 apart from Richard Gere are just not the typical Hollywood handsome, yes even Ewan McGregor I find just that bit too British looking to feel Hollywood handsome and I mean this as good thing! They are all super hot to me in these movies, they're all funny and a bit weird or nerdy and that is crazy hot. Richard Gere is probably the outlier on this list but hey, that necklace box lid scene? Scores some serious points on him having a bit of fun and letting go of the more restrained him (I know it was improve and thank God cause it really does make him more attractive). Basically I either want a man that will make me laugh or be rich apparently, so sue me. Anyways that's the list and that's all folks!
Honourable mentions, I usually like my romcoms about adults to be honest but teen romcom genre has some bangers too, so here's to 'Easy A', 'Clueless', '10 Things I Hate About You' and 'She's the Man'. They encapsulate a lotta tropes I said I didn't like but I love them why? CAUSE THEY'RE CHILDREN. Of course they lie and misunderstand thing's because they're idiots. It's honestly why all of those movies are loose adaptions of plays and novels that originally had adult characters BUT that wouldn't work today because usually grown ass adults can just talk. The time periods they were originally set give it some leeway as men and women didn't just talk that openly back then and stuff like technology didn't exist so making those adaptions teen movies? Brilliant idea. Teens are dramatic as fuck. Of course they'll never confront each other. It works.
Movies when fully grown human beings won't just send a quick text to check they didn't just hear something out of context? YOU DON'T DESERVE LOVE. Oopsie accidental rant over.
Also doubt anyone will read this but if you do and wanna put your on top 5 in comments or tags I'd love to see other peoples👌

Shallow Hal is a 2001 Romantic Comedy directed by Bob and Peter Farrelly about a shallow man, Hal (Jack Black) who sees a 300 Pound Woman, Rosemary (Gwyneth Paltrow) for her inner beauty.
Mauricio (Jason Alexander) explains that she has 'Cankles' a Calf Merged with an ankle.
Gwyneth Paltrow, in multiple interviews, said playing Rosemary in Shallow Hal was her least favorite role mainly because she had to wear a fat suit in the hot sun and had to sit for hours for the make up artists to put her 'fat face' on. She only did it for the paycheck.

human hal is the worst ginger youve ever met with every freckle and a smile that basically screams “i am plotting” but he also plays fortnite and traps everyone into a 2 hour analysis of mlp that ends with the recipient of his Very Good Character Analysis assuming he’s either doing it to make fun of dirk or is just. Actually deranged.
Like at first it’s kind of funny. Annoying red boy is really into the implications of liking certain characters. But then it’s a rapidly deteriorating shitstorm of thinly veiled digs at dirk(who isnt even in the vicinity) and a bunch of borderline Freudian nonsense about friendship and intimacy that makes him sound like an alien who has never had a friend.
“Actually, there’s an inherent selfishness to the acts of selflessness exhibited among the mane six” wrong you just cant imagine doing something without it benefiting you and cant face the fact your Fave wouldnt like that about you. Die.
#hal strider#lil hal#homestuck#some shit about how liking rainbowdash implies a natural neglect for other peoples feelings and that rd likers must have some sort of NPD#and by the end hes confident hes won who hes talking to over#meanwhile dave is staring at him like hey have you maybe considered touching grass a little bit ?#touching grass isnt enough hal needs to be buried in a shallow grave#if this doesnt make sense its the covid#trip talks
