現在Simsを休んでアプリ版SimCityで遊んでいますよ、という記録。

2018年3月上旬。心身の疲れを感じ、一時的にSimsのプレイを中断した。それに伴いSNSの投稿・閲覧も休止。今後もSimsと長くつき合っていきたいからこそ、ここですべてを断ち切ってリフレッシュしようと決めたのだ。そんなリフレッシュのさなかにSimシリーズで遊ぶのは矛盾しているような気もするが、まぁよいではないか。

こうしてアプリ版SimCity『SimCity BuildIt』のプレイ開始から約1か月が経過した。ようやく仕様に慣れたこのタイミングで、何の参考にもならない勝手な感想を綴りたい。ちなみに筆者のSimCity履歴は遠い昔のPC版『SimCity 4』のみで、展開中の最新版SimCityは未プレイである (PCゲームではSimCityより『Cities: Skylines』に惹かれるため)。

さて、こちらが筆者の治める都市。まだまだ作りかけのマップだが、1か月かけてだいぶカタチになってきた。

海岸付近に敷いた都市名の形の道路と、イースターのガチャで獲得したウサギさん遊具がチャームポイント。だがしかし……

夜になるとこの遊具が異様な不気味さを放つ。隠しきれない狂気。見るたびにサイレントヒルのウサギを思い出す。

現在の都市レベルはLv.31、人口は約32万。他のプレイヤーの都市と比較すると、我が市はレベルと面積のわりに発展 (＝人口の増加) がやや遅いと思う。その原因は自分でもすでにわかっている。

低層 (＝低密度) の住宅が多いからだ。圧迫感のある高層 (＝高密度) の住宅を極力避け、筆者は住人の少ない小さな家ばかりを好き好んで置いている。そして低層住宅と高層住宅をブロック分けし、都市全体を見渡しやすいよう配置。これはアプリ版SimCityならではの以下の二つの仕様によって実現できた街並みなのだ。

建物を自由に移動できる：住宅を1軒ずつ好きな場所に建てられる。建てたあとに移動することも可能。

手動で建物をアップグレード：建物にアイテムを与えることによって、より大きな建築へと成長させるシステム。つまり、低層の建物にアイテムを与えず成長をストップさせるという選択肢もある。

従来のSimCityでは、市長が行政や娯楽などのサービス施設を設置してやれば、市民たちはよだれを垂らして喜び、自動的に住宅・商業・工業の建物が大きく立派なものへと成長していく。だがアプリ版にはその3種の区分がなく、プレイヤーが育てられるのは住宅のみ。商業・工業の建物はレベルアップに応じて完成区画が順次アンロックされる (アップグレードなし)。こういった仕様はモ��イル端末向けの軽量化対策でもあり、プレイヤーに継続的な課金を促す手段でもあるのだろう。

低層住宅をたくさん建てたところで、人口があまり増えないので効率が悪い。言い換えれば、低層住宅群を維持したいのなら多く建てるよりほかなく、建設用地を広げざるを得ない。マップを拡張するにはレアアイテムを集めたり課金したりなど相当の苦労を要し、筆者は泣く泣くそれらを実行している。険しい道のりを選んでしまった自覚はあるものの、やはり「自分が住みたくなる場所」しか作る気になれないのだ。根底にある主義はSims3の建築と同じなのである。

筆者の最もお気に入りの地区がこの「ロンドンタウン」。空港を開設することによってパリ / ロンドン / トーキョーの3都市と交易できるようになり、それらの都市に関する建物がアンロックされる。この一帯のぎっちり並んだ家々は、見た目は低層でも通常の高層住宅より多くの居住者を擁している。デザインが良いだけでなく、人口不足のカバーにも大いに貢献してくれている地区なのだ。

テムズ川ならぬシムズ川のほとりに劇場「グローブ座」を置いた。周辺が未完成なのでもっとシムオリオンを貯めて早く仕上げたい。

ロンドンタウンを気に入ったため、市長の家もここ。背後にあるのはランドマークの大きな時計台「ビッグ・ベン」である。

夜景が美しいのもアプリ版の特長だと思う。この大時計を設置できた時は本当にうれしかったなぁ。市長も市民も大喜び。今後はロンドンタウンの奥に「トーキョータウン」を建設予定である。で、3都市の残るは「パリ」。 Sims3プレイヤーとしては当然……

シャン・レ・シムを作らねばなるまい。緑に包まれた瓦屋根のおうちが集う、ちっちゃなシャン・レ・シム。本来ならパリの街を意識した都会風の地区を作るべきなんだろうけれど、パリの住宅の形状が妙に扱いづらく、置く場所をあまり確保でき��かったのだ。その一方、ごく序盤の成長段階である田舎家はとてもかわいらしい。そこで都会風のパリ地区を諦め、シャン・レ・シムのフィーチャーと相成ったのであった。

ひと月遊んでみた感想は〝よく出来た簡易版SimCity〟。EAの強欲さにうんざりさせられることもあるし、「こんなのはSimCityじゃない」という批判の声の一部に同意もする。だが、これはこれでいいゲームだなと。何よりも、手元の小さな端末に自分の都市が収まっているなんて夢いっぱいじゃないか。いつでも手軽に起動できるから、ちょくちょく市民たちを眺めては癒されている。だけどまぁ……

ポイント欲しさに悪魔に魂売っちゃったんだけどな。マッドサイエンティストと手を組み、今日も今日とて市長は都市に災害を起こす実験を繰り返すのであった。すべては都市の発展のためだ。わかるだろう？　耐えてくれ、市民たちよ。

ところで。SimCityといえば各部門の担当官たち。アプリ版でも行政・警察・消防・教育・建築などそれぞれの部門に担当官がおり、折に触れて市長にアドバイスをくれる。彼らのビジュアルと声はどうやらSims3をベースに作られているようなので親しみがわく。時代に合わせたのか旧作 (SimCity 4) よりも言動がマイルドだ。

財政難に陥っても金切り声を上げない担当官。だが冷静に諭されるとかえって傷つく。いっそ罵ってくれ。

そして、こちら。

彼は医療の担当官。初対面のはずなのに、どこかで見覚えが……。

あっ。

うん、うん、そうね。

びっくりするほど違和感がない。眉毛が違うなぁ。惜しい。

あの医療の担当官を初めて見た瞬間、何とも言えない安堵感に包まれたのだ。筆者は元々「メガネ・ヒゲ・白衣」の3点セットが大好物なので、当初はそのせいだとばかり思い込んでいた。しかし、違った。彼がタローさんに似ていたからだったのだ。4年前、Sims3で復活した当時のタローさんがこの髪型で過ごした記憶が蘇る (タローさんは十数年前、Sims1プレイ中に誕生したシム)。懐かしいなぁ。

いやー悪いねタローさん。ゴメンゴメン。戻すから。ちゃんと元に戻すから。

なんかずっとこのままでもいいような気がしてきたけど…。

一つだけ補足を。アプリ版SimCityにはソーシャル要素が含まれている。見知らぬプレイヤーとの貿易 (アイテムの売買) のほか、プレイヤー同士で「市長クラブ」と呼ばれるギルドを結成することもできる。クラブ間で戦争 (いわゆるPvP) をして遊ぶためのシステムなのだが、アイテムのトレードなどに応用しているクラブもあると聞く。

で、筆者はどこのクラブにも属していない。のんびりマイペースで都市を造りたいだけなので、誰とも関わらず孤独プレイに徹することにしたのだ。毎日のようにたくさんのギルドから勧誘メールをいただくものの、その決意のもとに一切返信せず沈黙を守っている。こういうソロプレイヤーも多いと見受けるが、うーむ……まことに申し訳ない。失礼なのは承知の上だし、自分の人生にこんなモテ期は二度とないだろう。だがこれもまた主義の問題なので致し方ない。そっとしておいていただけるとありがたく思う。

ヒゲッパさん＆ヒゲッポさんのスペシャルSS。世界一かわいいうちのお犬様たちを自慢したかったのだ。マジAwesome。

コスプレが馴染みすぎて彼の本来の姿を忘れそうなので、元に戻しておいた。

今回の投稿のSSを撮るために、久々にSim3を起動した。タローさん世帯で遊んでいると、彼らの何気ない行動にいちいち笑わされたり和んだりする。この癒し効果はSimsでしか得られない。慌しすぎてこんな大切なことまで忘れかけてしまったのだなぁ。いかんいかん。エネルギーチャージが済んでSimsに復帰できる日を自分でも楽しみにしている。
