I finally watched Animator VS Animation. I uh... I have feels. Those are some EXPRESSIVE stickmen, damn! If anything, AVA is a masterclass on body language! But it also happens to be fun, spectacular, emotional and beautiful! So much effort goes into every episode, I as a fellow animator I am measuring the amount of work and I am HORRIFIED! So it is time for another episode of "Sel finds stuff on the internet" : Go watch AVA! You won't be disappointed!

This video is doing numbers on TikTok, but I wanted to share it here because I am so proud. The man being featured is my uncle Steve Smith.

Steve has been building drag racers & custom cars his entire life.

My grandma before passing away would tell the story of how when he was 10 or 11 years old - she came home to him taking apart the engine in her secondary vehicle (reserved for fancy outings).

She asked him why & he said he wanted to know how it worked outside of a schematic. & she told him that as long as he put it back together the way he found it, it was fine by her. & what's more - he put it back together from memory without even looking at a diagram!

If anything went wrong with the car, my grandma had him fix the car & it was that way until my grandma passed away. She never paid for a mechanic in her life again.

When Steve was a teenager he spent most of his time at the OKC Racetrack & raced with drag racers he built himself.

Also, as a teen he won the Bethany, OK wheelie championship by riding over a mile nonstop on his motorcycle on a single wheelie position.

All throughout my childhood he always had cars around in various stages of fixing up.

The city of Bethany refused to sell him the property next to his house to open his own auto garage. He had worked for Diffee Motors most of my life up until then. So he moved out in the country & opened his own garage.

Steve has been on several mainstream auto shows being featured for his custom work. He also built a custom car for one of the guys on Duck Dynasty. He was also offered a permanent role on an auto TV show, but he turned it down because it required moving out of state.

My uncle Steve is one of the sweetest, kindest & most generous people you will ever meet in your lifetime. He's as smart as a whip, has never met a stranger & gives the best hugs!

It just makes me so happy to see him getting the recognition he deserves.

I had an idea for an au the other day.. so far, it's just mostly been design ideas, but I think you all will like where it's going. Basically, it's what if Raven Brooks had been a city more akin to New York instead of a small town in Missouri (I think). Its main difference is.. Theo. Instead of being a mechanic and amusement park designer, he's a technician and hardware developer for AUPLE (AU (gold) and APLE, being a little play on 'golden apple'. Pronounced 'opal'. So that it's not just irl Apple in disguise.) After several issues with his appliances leading to people's deaths, he backed off from his career. However, a group seems to be trying to get their hands on his machines and ideas..

-Bea and Quentin are siblings and journalists from the local news banner who took up a security job in an abandoned AUPLE building to try and snoop. Their boss, lead detective of the RBPD's Detective Bureau, hired them to keep the building safe while he investigates the building.

-Added some new quirks.. like Quentin's cane! I've headcannoned him with chronic pain ever since I first drew him, actually. Because being a dyslexic journalist didn't make his life hard enough. Bea's much faster than him, but has a fear of heights that makes her unable to climb up as high as Quentin does. She also has terrible depth perception. Doesn't help her fear. And you all probably know by now I give Smith albinism. He's a great detective, but if he's flashed with lights, he's a bumbling liability. Hopefully that won't be a problem.

-The Guest is mechanical. I can't wait to draw them.. A tall clicking creature with a taste for blood. Possibly had been drawn up by Theo and then made by the 'cult' (considering making them a mob-like entity in this au).

-Would love to hear y'all's thoughts, I want to make this really cool. Still thinking a lot about it and some things are subject to change.

Inspired by a comment in a Rick Beato video on albums with great sound, this album was referenced in a comment (not the video).

I remembered Jennifer Warnes sang the famous Time of My Life with Bill Medley, so this album from her may be good...

And four songs on, the sound is quite transparent, clear and quite a treat - when you don't have to keep up with all the notes (as in complex technical metal bands/albums)... [Update: Heard the entire album eventually.]

This album, Famous Blue Raincoat (1987) is a Leonard Cohen tribute album... Her sixth studio album.

Great to discover non-famous/popular music from famous/popular musicians.

(Hope you get the meaning behind these clumsily put words... Like consciously focusing on Europe's songs Danger on the Track and other songs in the album over the massive hit The Final Countdown.)
