You know it deeply saddens me how much of an echo chamber Terfs are in. I'll be on desktop and I'll go into the notes of a post, see a shit take from a blogger with a glowing red username, go to their blog, and it's just. 10-30% normal posts, the rest nonstop Terfarama going on. Click on one blog, and all of a sudden there's a free blacklist the more I scroll through. Like, idk, I do not understand people who can dedicate so much of their life and their free time to hating other people. I hate bigots of all varieties, from your common conservative to the libertarian horde to ecofascists to the common Acolyte of Rowling, but this is the first post I've independently made about them because, I don't know about you, as much as these people actively work to make my life and the lives of people I love miserable, I just generally do not want to think about them in my spare time? Idk, I like being happy, I struggle to be happy, so why would I spend so much of my time dwelling on how unhappy a group of people make me?

But idk, maybe they're just keeping themselves in a different environment than I am. I used to consider Tumblr hellish, but ever since I've started curating my dash through selective following and liberal blocking, it's just been so much more peaceful. I come here now to relax, to hear about global events, and to share interesting posts I find, be they fandom or science or what have you. Life in general is rough as it is, why would I ever want to spend more time dwelling on that reality when that doesn't change anything?

I honestly don't think terfs know nor care that all they're ever going to do is push people away, isolate themselves, alienate the world, and harm the people they care about. They're an interesting hate group, one that isn't solely a group in power at the top punching down, but one that is largely comprised of cis women who are scared and shaken by the pain and suffering inflicted upon them by misogynistic society. But fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to teaming up with all the other people who hate just as strongly as you to feel powerful. But that feeling of power is only ever going to be a feeling. Terfs neuter their capability to effect actual change because instead of actually going after men who abuse their power, instead of nurturing their communities to grow past the need for toxic masculinity and the degradation of women, they direct all of their focus on attacking trans women, policing other women, gaslighting trans men, pushing cis men as far away as possible, and throwing everyone else under the bus to get there.

This is such a stupid strategy that even if trans women were actually secretly men and bioessentialism was true, trans women still wouldn't be men with any actual power because they neither claim masculinity, act it out, benefit from it, nor are welcome among it. Cis men regularly attack and abuse trans women en mass, deny them human rights, and deny them positions of authority. It is so, so apparently clear that trans women are below cis men in the social pecking order, so even if someone is so wrapped up in 8th grade science class biology that they can't see trans women as women, it STILL wouldn't make sense to devote so much of your energy and hate toward a group of people who objectively do not hold any societal power over you instead of the ones that do.

I sincerely hope that this epidemic of faux-feminists who court neonazis when it's convenient for them becomes a footnote in the history book someday. Ace exclusionism was largely nipped in the bud years ago, though there still are some shitheads who've never left it, but I've seen hategroups come and go. This one has had staying power thanks to JKR and other prominent figures championing it alongside the global movement mobilizing against the increased rights of trans people, but it can't last forever. I hope all the blogs I've blocked so full of hate get deleted one day when their owners can't stomach the hate poured into them anymore. It probably won't happen, they'll probably still be here until the site goes under, but I still hope. Everyone is capable of change with the right incentives, so hopefully someday soon it will be more rewarding to love trans women than to hate them.

1. What's your listener's name and nickname?

Cassiel (chosen name), commonly referred to as Sneaks or Cass (still called Sweetheart by Milo)

2. What's their backstory?

Cassiel comes from a family of five, having one older and one younger brother (Jonah and Raphael respectively). He comes from a well-off family, high middle class, both parents work in healthcare. Their older brother is studying to become a surgeon, and their younger brother wants to become a sculptor but is being pressured to pursue a science instead. Typically Cass doesn’t get as much feedback about their carer from their parents. A few times it was suggested they should become a teacher or a lawyer, but Cass never liked the idea of those. He never considered going into medicine, since they knew how much it strained their family, and they wanted to do something outside of the beaten path. Make a name for themselves as *Cassiel* not as a Grandwood (family name). Because their parents worked such hectic hours, Cass was often the one to watch their little brother in the evenings/weekends, and did not have free time for themselves because of this. They were not a very social child either, obsessed with books—mystery books in particular—and pouring themselves into their studies so they don’t get chewed out for their grades. When they found out that they were empowered, being the only one in their family to be empowered, they were very freaked out. They were only 13, and had no one to turn to. One of his teachers, also empowered, alerts Mazeed al-Masih (goes by Maze generally) who is a department worker, and he teaches Cass everything they need to know. They find out the opportunities they now have because they are empowered, things he didn’t even dream about, and he sets off for DAMN university as soon as he’s graduated high school. DAMN is in a different state than Cass, despite being the closest, so this does separate them from their family, and they don’t make a habit of keeping in contact with anyone but their little brother. They make it their mission to become an Investigator, and the best one around at that.

Kinda thinking punk meets 1920’s investigator. If that makes sense. idk if it does.

They’re pretty attentive to the ones they love. If there’s the tiniest thing that they notice they’re going to attempt to fix it. Very much a quality time/acts of service guy. Some would think that because of the effort they put into their work, they wouldn’t be a very good lover and those people are very very wrong. They will make time for everything (even if it nearly kills them)

16. What's the inspiration behind your listener's design?

Honestly a lot of Cass’ design/vibe is just a mash of a bunch of things I enjoy in a character, but the main thing i think of when i think of him is “tasks themselves with fixing the world” and a lot of 1920’s snuff films. Cass is definitely my most chaotic oc so far.

17. Could you give me a vague concept of what your listener's visual vibe is?

Fashionable when trying, very cozy when they’re not. They’re very intimidating when they dress up, usually has rings and the like on. If it’s for work, it’s very much business attire with a few personal touches that won’t get them in trouble (their rings, for example). If it’s a casual day in with Milo/the pack they let themselves dress cozier with over sized sweaters and such.

18. What are some extra tidbits you wanna tell me about your listener?

This kinda goes with the program but i kinda wanna stress how stubborn (maybe headstrong is a better word idk) they are. They will do something the hardest way because that’s how they started it and they don’t want to change plans now. They also have a necklace that their little brother gave them that they won’t take off. I think that’s all I wanna mention.

LaVeau-gue - design #004 - Sweetheart - Cassiel - Pluto

I haven't touched this series in a while but I'm back at it and starting it up slowly with Pluto's Sweetheart, Cassiel!

Design Notes

I would say this was difficult to design but that would be a lie. Instead I will say that it was fun to mess with this design.

First off, my major considerations were that this was a design for sweetheart, it was supposed to be inspired by Athena, it was noir punk and that you're a Percy Jackson fan (debatable since you like the movies but oookaaayyy/j).

So for this, I wanted to lean into different things; Cassiel should look put together but similalry uncooperative-you mention that growing up, they got good grades but did so for the sake of earning them to pass off as a good student rather than having a love for it. Additionally, the mention of their love of puzzles as well as their meticulous attention to detail concerning their loved ones gave me a good idea of what their shape language should be.

Cassiel reads someone who is somewhat athletic, attentive and keen to question things so while their hair might be slicked back, their posture upright and their attire somewhat kept, they do not concede to the complete idea of being wholely tidy by appearance. Following old british punk influence, I loosened Cassiel's tie, gave him a blue patch in their nice dress pants, added a blue studded belt and choker while also giving them a fishnet top which is more emo than punk but the addition of it feels it's anti-DUMP dresscode so I ran with that.

I did take note of Cassiel's penchant for dressing up and rings but elected that such a look would not be regular enough to make up for a complete design so I leaned away from that and into something that Cassiel would wear while in the field.

Finally, after those aspects, I then leaned into their athena inspiration and DUG for some inspiration from Epic The Musical-that led me to using blues and grays within the design BUT the majority of the influence came from the concept of barn owls. This shaped out with their hair being slicked back, their colour pallette mimicking the same distribution of colour across a barn owl's feathers as well as the framing of his face. As a smaller note, I gave them blonde hair and a grey streak as a callback to annabeth who sports that kind of hair in the PJO books if I'm not mistaken.

Hamster & Gretel Headcanons

Given that the show may or may not ever come back, I've been preparing a long list of some personal headcanons.

Gretel

Dave and Carolina eventually find out about their daughter's double life. I haven't really thought about how. I just want it to happen.

Gretel's secret identity is completely blown in high school. She had left school to go and stop a crisis down town. Gretel returned to campus discreetly and changed back into regular Gretel in a spot that she believed to be out of sight. Unfortunately, someone had been recording her. The video goes viral on social media over night. Gretel has no idea until she goes to her first period class the next day, and is greeted with thunderous applause from her classmates. Even her weird science teacher, whom Hamster swears is a vampire, bows down at Gretel's feet, to her abject mortification.

The revelation of her identity puts the Grant-Gomez family in significant danger, but not to worry. Gretel’s friends with a certain pair of brothers just one town over who can install the greatest security imaginable around their house. All it takes is one musical montage.

Gretel’s first boyfriend is Nordle. It wasn’t a serious relationship. It was an awkward, short-lived, middleschool romance. Both of them realize pretty quickly that they're better off just being friends. Somehow, despite Superhero Gretel's relationship status not being public knowledge, Professor Exclamation, who is serving a life sentence in prison, finds out about this relationship. All of his fellow inmates split their sides with laughter as Exclamation runs around his cell, flailing his short, stubby arms in the air, and howling with rage.

The first time Gretel gets into an actual relationship, Hamster didn't like the boy at all. Something just didn't sit right with him. Hamster tried warning Gretel about him, but considering Hamster's relationship advice was generally terrible, and because Gretel was a teenager, his words fell on deaf ears. It was his and Gretel’s first real fight with eachother and the latter refused to speak to him for 2 days.

Well, as it turned out, he was a teenage villain-in-training, with the goal of getting close to and destroying Gretel. Gretel was left with a shattered heart. When Lauren found out, The Destructress made a brief return to evil. Lauren and Hamster both paid the boy a little visit in jail. Okay, they didn't exactly "harm" him. He was technically a kid. They simply terrorized him in the next worst way, by making him listen to a 10 hour long Taylor Swift playlist on Lauren's phone. Each of the songs were about Swift's bad experiences with boys. The cops didn't do much to stop them. They all had a soft spot for Gretel, so this kid wasn't exactly in their good books.

The first time Gretel killed somebody, it tore at her conscience. She truly had no choice. The man somehow had an IND. He could have blown up the whole city. It had been one of those moments in which you've got to make a split second decision. Nobody faulted Gretel. Hamster, the police on the scene, her family, they all tried to reassure the girl that she'd made the right decision. The only person who faulted Gretel was herself.

Gretel has never told this to anybody, but the fiasco with Belle really affected her for a while. Just imagine being a kid and having someone publicly trashing and making up lies about you on live TV to the point that you were nearly arrested.

There are many nights that see Gretel wake up in cold sweat after dreaming about a past villain coming back to attack her and her family. It has never slipped her mind how many enemies she and Hamster have made.

Gretel ends up with the son of one of the random cops you see throughout the show. I may or may not have taken inspiration from The Amazing Spider-Man. I guess I had always wanted the dynamic of Spider-Man, Gwin and George Stacy to work out and saw this as an opportunity.

Gretel had two children, a pair of twins. They're names are Mason and Maya. These two are the next generation of superheroes. Mason is really flamboyant, charismatic and a class clown. He (not disrespectfully) flirts with female news reporters on air and turns battles into stand-up routines. Maya is rather shy and introverted, but highly intelligent. She's the brains of the duo. Maya will occasionally get exasperated by her brother's goofball antics. The twins have polar opposite personalities, but they're joined at the hip. Maya is the spitting image of Gretel but with dark hair. Mason carries Gretel's blonde hair but looks like whoever his father is.

I've actually had these two OCs in my head for a long time. If I ever get around to writing any fanfics, I'd definitely do something with them because this is only part of the dynamic I've built up and the two are so much fun to think about.

Hiromi

Kevin and Hiromi become a true couple and fall in love. The first thing Kevin does is to take her out on a real date. Their date goes great, and, for the most part, uninterrupted by supervillains. Sure, La Cebolla turns up at the restaurant and starts an onion riot in the kitchen, but eh, they still had a good time.

Some time after the events of season 2, the real Mrs. Knight comes in to start teaching Hiromi's journalism class. Mrs. Knight starts trying to take Hiromi under her wing, but Hiromi does not trust this lady one bit. But it turns out that the real Mrs. Knight has no ulterior motives, is a genuinely nice lady, and is just interested in being a mentor to aspiring journalists.

Sometimes when they're alone, Kevin and Hiromi will call eachother Super Guy and Miss Direct. One of the things Hiromi loves most about Kevin is his relationship with Gretel, how he's always there for her, that he's put himself in mortal danger for Gretel, time and time again. That right there is a man who she knows will look after his family. That's the kind of man she wants to be with.

Despite their rocky start, Hiromi and Gretel become really close, sister-like even. Kevin will occasionally joke that Hiromi likes Gretel more than him. In her late teens, Gretel sometimes stays the weekend at Kevin’s and Hiromi's place. Gretel doesn't knock, or even announce her visit. She just walks right in and makes herself cozy. The two will already have dinner for three prepared.

Hiromi becomes an investigative journalist and a reporter for Action News. She ends up striking a friendship with Veronica Hill (though, unlike Veronica, Hiromi doesn't have a habit of airing her personal issues on the news). As a reporter, Hiromi frequently covers the heroics of Hamster & Gretel. Sometimes it puzzled people as to why Superhero Gretel always struggled to not laugh whenever Hiromi interviewed her. For her part though, Hiromi Grant-Gomez never let on that she knows who's behind the mask.

After Gretel's secret identity is blown, Hiromi, with Hamster and Gretel's blessing, authors the first canonical comic book series of Hamster & Gretel's adventures, detailing the events of the show. The comic series becomes an instant bestseller. I suppose Hiromi would alter or omit the identities of FistPuncher and The Destructress. What Hiromi does not omit however, is the fiasco of Miss Direct, a rather embarrassing chapter that she's brave enough to release. Also, Kevin becomes a fan-favorite character and is finally recognized as a hero.

Lauren and Lyle

Lauren is more or less an older sister to Gretel and Bailey. Even long after the girls are too old for a babysitter, she enjoys spending time with them. She doesn't do hero work very frequently, but she's always willing to lend a hand to the team when they need her. Also, the first time Gretel gets a boyfriend, Lauren puts the fear of God in him. "You hurt her and I'll hurt you! And trust me. I have a track record!"

It wasn't really clear if Lyle was actually a "good guy" by the end of season 2, but I feel like he would go straight back to villainy as soon as the finale ended. Maybe he turns good eventually, or maybe he continues down a path of villainy. It would be an interesting idea to follow.

Lauren becomes an occasional semi-part time superhero. She kind of just wants to be a regular teenager. She mostly jumps in when things get really bad. She refuses to battle Lyle.

At first, nobody trusts that The Destructress is reformed. Gretel vouching for her carries a lot of weight, but Lauren's got to earn that trust. There's also the problem that she and her brother are extremely high on the FBI's wanted list.

Lauren does prove herself reformed to many people, but there will always be those who don't trust her. That will never change, and that's okay.

Nordle

After a strange system update, Tobor develops free will and is able to experience real human emotions. Now freed to make his own choices, Tobor is ready to pursue his true calling... as a stand up comedian. His first attempts at making jokes are not very funny. In fact, they sound like an AI wrote them (which I suppose would be an accurate statement), but the sheer absurdity makes everyone burst into uncontrollable laughter.

Professor Exclamation had never felt quite as degraded as the time he found Tobor on the comedy channel, making fun of him.

Gaining free will and genuine emotions enables Tobor to become a proper parent-figure to Nordle. Sure, Tobor had taken care of Nordle, provided for him, and even felt affection for the boy, but he had also been his servant. Now, Tobor can properly raise Nordle, steer him in the right direction when needed, being their to listen whenever Nordle needs to vent his emotions, and give him real advice and not just statistical analysis.

The first time Nordle called Tobor "Dad," it had been an accident, a slip of the tongue, but it had revealed the way Nordle really saw Tobor. The robot would have cried if he had tear ducts. The day Tobor legally adopted Nordle as his own son was the happiest moment of each of their lives.

Nordle and Bailey end up together. I haven't exactly spared this much of a thought, but I guess I could see it. They've both got that fiery personality and both are really smart.

Hamster

Carolina would never forget the day that she sat down to watch one of her telenovelas, reached a sad scene, and to her surprise, turned to see Hamster sitting beside her, sobbing into a tissue bigger than his body. "No Consuela, no! *sniff* Oh this part gets me every time!" Watching Spanish rom-coms became something the two of them did together all the time.

Hamster never told Gretel this, but he often frequented bars and clubs at night. He's got a rather high alcohol tolerance for someone who's smaller than the glass.

Hamster fell in love once. She was the most gorgeous hamster he'd ever laid eyes on. She couldn't speak, fly, or punch though walls, but Hamster loved her with the entirety of his overdramatic heart.

None of Hamster's children inherited his powers. Not his strength. Not his voice..... and not his longevity.

Nothing had ever torn him apart as badly as outliving each and every one of his kids. Hamster was deeply depressed for a long time, and for a few days after his last one went, he didn't speak at all. During this season, Gretel, Kevin, Fred, Dave and Carolina were always there for him, and for several weeks, wouldn't leave him alone for a second. Their love got Hamster through this darkness (also, the grief counselor who specialized in rodents helped).

Hamster lived long enough to see Gretel's children become superheroes. He was referred to as Uncle Hamster, but sometimes, when he was being a "cranky ol' geezer," as Gretel put it, the kids called him their Grumpy Uncle earning him the title "Grunkle Ham."

The day Hamster died was the hardest day of Gretel's life. Hamster's funeral received global coverage. People from all over the world came to say goodbye, everyone from family and friends to world leaders. Even a few villains showed up to pay their respects. Gretel tried to get through the eulogy without breaking down, but it was impossible. He touched and rescued millions of lives. The world would never forget Hamster Grant-Gomez.

Alternative Headconons

These are some headcanons that I previously had but have dropped for one reason or another.

Hiromi becomes the owner of the comic book shop and gives Gretel her first job. The staff there is all one big work-family. Hiromi is the cool boss that everyone wants to work for. All of Gretel's colleagues are Hamster & Gretel superfans. There are debates over which of the duo is the better. Gretel argues vehemently for Hamster. None of them, save for Hiromi, know that they're working with Superhero Gretel every day. When Gretel's secret identity is blown, the shop becomes a huge hit. Where else to buy superhero merchandise than from a shop where a real superhero works?

Just like Gretel, Mason and Maya use their real first names as their superhero names. Despite this, and despite the fact that it's known to the public that they are Superhero Gretel's children, people STILL don't connect these three with their civillian counterparts. I came up with this before I had the idea that her identity would be blown.

The fastest way to take your writing to the next level

Hello, writers of tumblr!

I know many of us had vastly different experiences with high school English/Literature classes. I had one of the best English curriculums in the United States as a result of going to an IB, former business prep school (it got converted to a public school). That being said, most of my advice here comes straight from the English classroom, which may make many of you recoil or wince as you brace yourselves for “read the classics”.

And that is my advice.

But hear me out, I’m going to take this to a next level as well. Firstly, why do you think we get better at writing as we age? Practice, yes? I would argue that a 20 year old beginner writer is starting at a different place than a 12 year old beginner writer, however. As someone who started writing more seriously at around 9 or 10, stopped for years as I realized it wasn’t a viable career, and got back into it at 15, you could argue this was just muscle memory, the same way you can remember how to ride a bike after years out of practice even if you’re wobbly at first. I would argue something different, I wasn’t wobbly at 15. My writing was the best it had ever been. Why? Because I had just finished The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I found myself imitating his technique, copying his voice, making something with far more complex symbolism, metaphor, etc. notes of Shelley, Achebe, Shakespeare, Cervantes, could be caught as those were the authors I had been forced to read for school.

But it is important to note this all happened because I made myself think about literature. I wrote essays, some of the best in the class, and wrote even more about these books when class was done. I did research into these history, social dynamics, problems, struggles, author background, etc. in order to place these works in the context of their time. I relentlessly analyzed why these were the stories that stood the test of time. Most importantly, I researched literary movements.

The thing that has guided my entire current work in progress and allowed me to stay so steadfast and dedicated, the thing that developed my voice, was understanding the literary movements. I can go over a brief breakdown of the biggest modern ones:

Classicism - Using values and concepts from Ancient Greek and Roman literature. When the movement sprung up, it was largely a revitalization, The Odyssey, the Iliad, and stories inspired by those. Circe would be a more modern example I believe. This movement was characterized by simplicity, proportion, clear structure, restrained emotion, and explicit appeals to intellect. Classicism was also a fairly classist movement but set up the foundations for

Romanticism - basically the tradwife of literary movements, RETVRN, all about an embrace of nature, emotion, humanity, all the stuff that came before that science and industrialism junk. Romanticism has two major subcategories: Dark Romanticism (Example: Frankenstein, Mary Shelley) which highlights a sinful or evil nature in humanity and examines our capacity for evil; Romantic Nationalism (Example: The Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales) which was HUGE in France and future Germany around the Napoleonic Wars and emphasized the beauty of the nation state and the need to protect it.

Realism - By far one of the most significant for historical analysis. Realism was not just an art movement, it was a social movement. The goal was to show the wealthy, literate folk who could afford to go see art the plight of the lower rungs of society. Of course some realists tackled different issues. Tolstoy reportedly hated writing about poor people, but War and Peace is a masterpiece of Realism because of its focus on the perils of war. Dostoevsky, any of his books, but most famously Crime and Punishment, stand out as the most significant realist books in the literary canon. The style is often marked by a very plain manner of diction.

Aestheticism - the most SIGNIFICANT aestheticist novel of all time has to be The Picture of Dorian Gray. Featuring intense commentary on what art is and how meaningless it is (in a way that ironically makes it deeply meaningful), Wilde captures the very tenets of the Aestheticist movement. Don’t think, just make something pretty. Aestheticism was a criticism of both Realism and Romanticism, the dominating movements of the time. It argued art is just pretty and the technique should speak for itself. Wilde himself claims that Realism doesn’t work to convince people of the plight of the poor and romanticism is evil and corrupting in his most famous novel.

Modernism - The Trial by Franz Kafka, To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf, All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Stranger by Albert Camus, what do all of these novels share in common? A defiance of literary norms and the time period they were written in. They wanted to make something new and challenge what was normal and expected of writing at the time. They aimed to encompass societal themes in a way that was new and different. The Trial for example was the most painfully accurate depiction of Antisemitism I’ve ever read, despite the absurdity of it all.

Contemporary/Post-Modern - Contemporary does not encompass every work published after the 90s despite what the name may imply. Contemporary art/literature, much like its forefather modernism, aims to push boundaries. What is art? What is a story? Contemporary art pushes a meta-narrative and the most compelling example I can think of is The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, which explicitly asks the reader what makes a story true: material reality, or the feelings it gets at? Another story I can think of that I would consider contemporary art isn’t a book at all, but rather the online animated series ENA, ENA doesn’t have a clear metanarrative but its presentation is exactly what contemporary art aims for.

Of course, there are more movements than just these, but these are the ones that many classics fall into. If you need a reading list for rapid development of your writing, just look at the works I compiled in this list.

this is on a scale of 10, where 5 is the average

Chase: 10/10 (obligatory duh) intelligence is his whole gimmick. he has access to every bit of knowledge in the world, as well as being a master tactician and strategist, along with being a master in engineering/technology. the only spots that he sometimes lacks in are emotional intelligence and street smarts, but he's literally the smartest being ever created (besides Marcus)

Oliver: 7.5-8ish. he's the second smartest on the team in book smarts sense. he's second in street smarts and is very adept at technology/science. he's also decent with emotional intelligence in most cases (ignore the first part of the series lol) he's also maybe the least dense on the team, meaning picks up social cues easily. all-in-all he's plenty smart in every category which lands him a nice high number

Skylar: 7. while she isn't super book or street smart (specifically the latter) her battle strategy and tactic skills are insanely high (maybe rivaling Chase) she's also extremely technologically advanced because her people are. also going back to 1st point, she's like,,, at least 6 in terms of book smarts

Bree: 6. Bree is decently book and street smart (for being in a basement 15 years) assuming she had 7 classes in high school, I feel like she'd probably get like 4 B's and 3 A's, so above average. she's also innovative because she has to be with her bionics. also her experience gives her a leg up in strategy. she is semi-stunted when it comes to emotional intelligence sometimes, but she's good enough at it

Kaz: 4-4.5. he isn't book smart by any means, or good at strategy (besides "hey, let's blow this up :D) he hates science and technology because it's boring to him. but he's leagues above the others in street smarts terms, plus he is an excellent manipulator lol. he's not totally dumb (much smarter than he thinks) but he is lowest on the team

6. Leo: 8. Leo had dogshit grades lmao, but that's because his intelligence lies in engineering and science. this kid is a prodigy. the people who rival his skills in inventing are,,, Chase, Giselle, Douglas, Marcus, Donald,,,, so,,, that says enough. he's also very street smart and emotionally intelligent. shout out the Dooley

7. Adam: 3. so surprising no one, blud is the lowest on the list. he's never needed to be intelligent with the fact that his bionics rarely require strategy and he's super OP. the only ones in the whole series that he couldn't solo w/o help of some kind are Krane, Marcus, Mr. Terror, and the Calderans. says enough p.2. the only person on the good side he couldn't crush is Skylar. (even though Bree and Chase are both smarter, faster, and more skilled than he is, if he had no attachment to them, he'd be able to outlast and destroy them) soooo intelligence isn't his schtick. he is however very well-adjusted emotional intelligence-wise for being in the basement 16 years. he's bad at showing feelings, but picks up others' pretty easily. he's also super perceptive of things no one else notices. he also isn't brain-dead and can understand anything on a basic human level. so he has some plusses, but brother just isn't one that needs smarts.

Nicky was walking to school... his head hurt, and he had barely slept because...

"She's just using you, you fool!" — Fleetway was still shouting in his head.

"Think about it... would she hurt you if she loved you?" — Dark wouldn't back down.

"Her goals are deeper than you realize... if you keep staying with her, the hole you're digging... will be too deep, and in the end, you'll be buried in it." — Shadow!Nicky tormented him.

"Enough! You guys have been nagging me with this all night!" — he shouted back at them, but to everyone else, it seemed like he was just shouting at the air.

Though there was another reason he hadn't slept... besides them and the tapes.

"That's the boy who..."

"Yeah, that's definitely him..."

"I can't let my daughter live on the same street and go to the same school as that psycho."

"They say he was friends with that Peterson guy..."

"Psychos get along with psychos... nothing surprising there."

"Hmph..." — he gritted his teeth, his thoughts far from pleasant.

"You know... landing a few punches on them wouldn't be such a bad idea..." — Dark provoked him.

Someone touched his shoulder... he turned around, tense and furious, and just great—it was her...

"Hey, Nicky!" — without waiting for a response, she pulled him into a hug.

"Hey, Trin..." — he blushed at the closeness but didn't resist.

"Heading to school?"

"Yeah..."

"Great! You know, we could go somewhere after class..."

"Good idea... but let's get through school first."

"I heard about yesterday... a wave of electric energy swept through the city. They say the government is sending investigators soon."

"Yeah... crazy... listen, Trin... can we talk about this later...?"

At School:

"... I'm gonna die..." — he looked at his schedule... First period with Finch, second with Delroy, third with Enzo and Ivan, fourth with the whole club, fifth with Enzo, and sixth with Trinity and Delroy.

"First, English... second, social studies, third, math, fourth, natural sciences, fifth, history, sixth, PE..."

"What a wonderful schedule," — he muttered.

Time to head to class, and again, people were whispering about him.

"I heard he threatened Finch yesterday..."

"Guess he's just like his ex-best friend..."

He ignored them, quickly entering the classroom and sitting at the nearest desk.

"Ugh..." — as if the lesson wasn't bad enough, now he had to endure the gossip again.

"Not my fault the letters keep running around the page..." — he thought. Reading had always been a struggle for him.

He kept feeling their stares...

"Ahem... if you have something to say, go ahead!" — he snapped, and everyone instinctively turned away.

"Annoying..." — Nicky buried his face in the textbook.

Finch just watched him... she didn't know what to think.

After Class:

Nicky hated every second of it... not only was it English, but literature as well. What was even the point of literature? It was basically history, just boring!

As soon as the bell rang, he shoved his books into his backpack and bolted out of the classroom.

Entering another room, he saw Delroy... looking downcast.

"The dog..." — he thought. He understood how much his rival cared, so he had spent a good part of last night working on something—even before watching the tapes.

"Delroy..." — he sat beside him.

"Hey, Rot..."

"Listen, I know we don't get along... but, ugh... I understand what it's like... to lose someone you care about... and..." — he opened his bag and pulled out... a robot? More like a model in the shape of a dog.

"I know it's... not alive. But... you know, when Aaron disappeared, the nameplate and googles he gave me kept me going, reminding me that, no matter what... he was still with me." — he turned away as he said it.

"Uh... thanks..." — Delroy took the robot... doll? Whatever it was... for a second, it felt like he was back when his dog was still alive.

"Dude..." — Nicky turned to the sound.

"That's... really thoughtful, you know... you're not such a weirdo... Okay, no, you are a weirdo, but a good one." — a small smile appeared on the backpack-wearer's face.

"Ah..." — Nicky looked flustered.

"You're a good guy... you know... I never thought I'd say this... but you're cool."

"... What?"

"... In short... let's start fresh?" — Delroy extended his hand.

Nicky stared at it for a few seconds... and thought... seriously? They were just at each other's throats recently... and now he was offering this? Well... he was definitely less annoying than before...

"Pfft... I don't mind, buddy." — a small smile appeared on his face as he shook the hand... of his former enemy.

"But that doesn't mean we're not rivals anymore..."

"I agree, competing with you is fun."

The lesson started—pretty normal... the history of the town, which actually interested Nicky. He always wanted to know more about the places he lived in, which made people in old towns think he was a nerd or a freak, but he didn't care.

Big Break:

"Alright, if my next class is with Enzo and Ivan... I'll sit with them!" — he smiled a little... those were his friends...

"Nicky! Hey!" — Ivan ran up to him.

"Hey, buddy... how's it going?"

"Well, I've recovered from... the beating. What about you? You look exhausted..."

"Uh... let's just say I was busy last night... and the voices in my head wouldn't let me sleep. And now I can't even sleep properly anymore..."

"Voices in your head?"

"I'll explain everything later... in fourth period."

"Alright... should I... um, tell Enzo?"

"... I'll do it myself..."

"Okay, just... don't overdo it... you're just starting to get better, I don't want you to—"

"I appreciate your concern... but I can handle it, we can handle it." — placing a hand on his surprised friend's shoulder, Nicky headed to class.

Math was probably one of his best subjects... not on Ivan and Trinity's level, but about the same as Enzo.

The lesson passed without surprises—a simple class... he kept talking with Enzo and Ivan, discussing the problems, and honestly, it reminded him of how things used to be before the incident.

The lesson ended pretty quickly... natural sciences.

"Okay... everyone here?" — Nicky looked around. Enzo, Ivan, and Trinity were all in the classroom, meaning the whole group was together.

"Mr. Murtaugh isn't coming... he's sick." — Ivan said. He had actually learned about it yesterday when he went to complain about the B+ he got.

"Alright... so, what do we do?"

"While you guys were in math, I sneaked behind the school... and yeah... Peterson's not in prison." — Trinity lowered her head.

"Seriously? Damn..." — Nicky started shaking. That... monster was free again? He struggled to breathe.

"Nicky. Calm down..." — seeing the warning signs—his heavy breathing—Trinity approached him.

"He'll come back... for me, I know it! He... he... he'll break into my house again, I know it!" — Nicky started rambling.

"Break into your house? What?"

"He... stole the phone book I took from him so I could call—"

Trinity placed a hand over his mouth.

"Calm down... it's okay, we're with you, I'm with you."

"... What the hell did Peterson do to him in that month...?" — Enzo shook his head.

"Nothing good, that's for sure..." — Ivan felt fear creeping in.

"Okay... we're still fine! We just need to come up with something... but what?" The girl put her hand to her chin in thought.

"We have to go against both Peterson and the cult at the same time? That's a bit much..." Ivan lowered his gaze.

"I've seen things on the tapes... I know things I wasn't supposed to know..."

"Tapes? What tapes?" Enzo became interested in his words.

"Trinity... do you remember the grave behind his house?"

"You... you dug it up?"

"Yes, I found a bag with broken tapes there. I sneaked into the Golden Apple Amusement Park, got some spare parts... and then, I fixed everything... There... there..."

"What was there?" Ivan both did and didn't want to know.

"Mya... she..."

"Who is Mya?" Trinity looked at the worried faces around her.

"Aaron, he... he..."

"Aaron? Who is that?" Trinity was already confused.

"Aaron... killed her." Nicky finally said, shocking everyone around him.

"Are you serious right now?" Enzo stepped closer to him.

"Yes... I saw the footage on the tape. Aaron pushed her off the roof... and... and..."

"Aaron? Mya? Who are these people?" Trinity helped the trembling boy sit down.

"Aaron... was Nicky's best friend, until he disappeared." Enzo began.

"And Mya... was his younger sister. Nicky used to talk to them a lot..." Ivan shook his head.

"Wait... two kids, they're—"

"Theodore's children." Nicky finally said, then sighed.

"I... I don't know why Aaron did it, whether it was an accident or not... but I'm sure I'll get answers from him. When I find him..."

"He's alive?"

"He was in the basement... I think—no, I'm sure—it was him who distracted Peterson when we were outside."

"So... your best friend killed his sister... and was locked in the basement by his father?" Trinity stepped back.

"Aaron... isn't my best friend. Not now, not after what he did to me in the basement... though I'm not sure."

"Wait, he hurt you?"

"I... we tried to escape together about twenty times, but after another failed attempt, he gave up. He wanted me to stay with him because he needed a friend."

"And I take it he stopped you by force?"

"A crowbar to the head would stop anyone." Nicky clutched his head for effect.

"He did what?! That bastard!" Trinity snapped. That was too much.

"So... now he's..." Enzo began.

"Who knows where." Ivan shook his head.

"If Peterson is free, then he's probably looking for Aaron..." Nicky said.

"And that 'Nicky' is with him..." Trinity shook her head.

"So what do we do?"

"For now, we lay low. No one should know about our... peculiarities. Considering yesterday's power surge that shut down all electronics in the entire center of the country... the government is definitely going to investigate."

"I heard that some company called Planeta-PRO wants to demolish the Golden Apple Amusement Park to build a new shopping center." Ivan said.

"They also collaborate with Fazbear Entertainment." Enzo added.

"Do you think... Crowface will make a move with everything that's going on?" Nicky asked.

"I don't know... but even so, people have started disappearing in the forest. Search teams have found bodies of mutilated animals there... some predator must have started hunting." Trinity said.

"So, we've got..."

"A psycho killer with 'Nicky,' who wants to find his son and probably get revenge on us; an unknown corporation that may have shady intentions, considering the company they collaborate with has a bad reputation; and someone—possibly or not possibly Crowface—tearing up animals in the woods." Trinity summed it up.

"I'm amazed this town still exists..." Nicky muttered.

"But still... who caused that power surge?" Ivan wondered, while Nicky just started sweating.

"Well... that was me..."

"What?! But why?!" Trinity stepped up to him.

"I was overwhelmed! I found out that my friend is dead because of my best friend, who turned out to be her brother... I already lost Lucy before this, then Diana, and now..." Nicky turned away, his eyes slowly filling with tears, anger at his own weakness rising alongside them.

"Nicky... it's not your fault that Aaro—"

"You don't get to say that!" Nicky cut him off. That dark aura surrounded him again, his eyes spiraling once more.

"What's happening to him?" Enzo pressed against the wall, scared.

"Nicky... calm down... he's just trying to comfort you..." Trinity placed a hand on his shoulder.

"A... Agh..." He shut his eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to calm himself... the aura slowly faded, and his eyes returned to normal.

"I... I'm sorry... Sorry, Enzo." He shook his head. He'd definitely become more aggressive lately...

"Ugh... I'd say we should lay low for now. I don't think going against Crowface right now is a good idea." Ivan said.

"But they literally blew up Trinity's house recently... that's already a threat." Enzo was a little scared.

"So, who are the suspects? I'm kinda out of the loop..." Nicky asked.

"Abanante, Cornwell, the Mayor, the Taxidermist, and possibly Murtaugh..." Trinity answered.

"It's definitely Murtaugh. Only a villain could give me a B+." Ivan muttered angrily.

"Ivan, that's not a reason..." Nicky shook his head.

"I think it's Cornwell. He stole those coins, after all." Enzo suggested.

"Abanante is a likely option... Although..." Trinity thought back... her second day in this town...

"What?"

"It has to be her! I remember now! On my second day here, she came out of a stall in the restroom with some bags, and a crow's feather fell from her."

"...Maybe that's why Peterson wanted to blow her up... he's against them." Nicky stared at the floor.

"So what now? Even if we know it's her... we have no proof. And besides, what would Cornwell want with those coins?" Enzo pointed out.

"The book has dozens of suspects..."

"What if... Crowface isn't one of them?" Nicky proposed.

"What? How does that even—"

"Think about it! He can teleport, create smoke around himself, control crows... and apparently the wind, if not the weather itself." Nicky recalled all their encounters with the feathered menace.

"And?"

"I think Crowface is a demon. No ordinary person could do that... he has to be either a demon from hell, an alien, or some other kind of supernatural being." Nicky waved his hands dramatically, adding to the eerie atmosphere.

"Nicky... we know you believe in aliens... but still..." Ivan tried to talk him down.

"No. I know he's not just a human."

"Maybe he got a stone too, like us..." Enzo suggested.

"Or maybe these stones didn't come to us by accident. Maybe we were chosen." Trinity said.

"But why us? We're just kids!" Ivan started to panic a little.

"Maybe because we exposed Peterson?"

"...Ugh... I don't know... but I think—no, I know—that we're getting involved in something way bigger than we realized..." Trinity looked out the window.
