this doesnt matter to anyone but me but i think theres some similarity, in Vibes, between that latest thing and the really really really old tracks i made in soundation when i was 13. just that now i kind of actually know what im doing whereas back then i was trying to communicate emotion by bashing together premade sample tracks , to Limited Effect, akin to trying to build a house by nailing a bunch of ikea flatpack furniture into a roughly cubular shape. a large part of my creative process is still just hitting shit randomly until it makes an interesting sound MAKE NO MISTAKE THERE but now i have more intuition as to what methods of hitting are likely to give me interesting sounds. which is sort of cool. and btw, i know what maybe 15 or even 20 percent of the switches and dials onscreen do, and sometimes i can remember what notes are in a chord without having to look it up. God Of Music Production right here. the technical five year anniversary of "one word conversation"s existence is in like 2 weeks which is insane i dont have anything special for the occasion though. ok thats basically all i had to say. stay tuned as i continue to post through this latest episode of extreme mental distress!:)

Music Manifesto

I was a Paralegal and Law Clerks instructor but I have never been a music teacher.  Therefore, this Assignment presents a very big challenge for me.  My involvement with music, apart from learning the clarinet in high school, attending musicals and concerts, listening to music and dancing, has been the writing of songs since I was fifteen years old.  Regardless of this huge disadvantage, I will tackle this Assignment as if I were a music instructor.

Starting with some general principles:

1. Firstly, I would let students choose their own songs.  In doing so, I would be fostering meaning, relevance, interest, and connection so that students are motivated to learn music and continue with the process.

2.  I would find the quickest ways for students to get hooked on the music whether it is through singing, dancing, or playing an instrument.  It would not have to be a formal instrument since it could be anything used as a percussion instrument for example like hitting a tin can to develop a beat and a sound. 

3.  Whatever exercise or activity would have to be simple not complicated.  Setting a difficult task could lead to frustration and abandonment of the desire to learn.

4.  I would work on building a relationship with the students since I believe that I can learn as much from them as they can learn from me.  Any concepts that I was unfamiliar with I would research to ensure that I understand them in the event that I am asked to explain them.  I would be their guide rather than strictly teaching them music principles in a stuffy classroom setting. 

5.  I would encourage students to set objectives like creation of music or performance of music.  It could be individual or collaborative and there could be a recital, concert or just a fun jam session. 

6.  The use of technology would be a big part of the curriculum.  Students would be permitted to use laptops, IPads, cellphones and other such devices whether as instruments or for information gathering.  If any students wished to learn notes, scales and music theory, I would recommend looking on YouTube or Wikipedia or other open learning apps and websites.  I would also suggest GarageBand, Ableton Live software, BandLab, LMMS, and Soundation.  The use of Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) or sequencers, graphics, Digital Game Based Learning (DGBL), and other such technological tools would help to encourage creativity and continued interest.

7.  I would always want to ensure that music was relevant, interesting and most of all fun.  There could be group projects, interaction with other students in other countries or from other cultures, interaction between music and different disciplines like art, drama, or history.  For example, one exercise for the music students could be drawing colours or pictures representing their feelings when hearing certain notes or music.  Project Based Learning (PBL) and other BLs could be applied effectively to mix things up for the students so that they would not get bored.

8.  Further on the fun element, I would take students on virtual field trips like museums, music conservatories, music halls, and opera houses.  I would want to go on actual field trips as well but only if the budget allowed for such trips.  We would have guest speakers online to show their various talents and answer students’ questions interactively. 

9.  It would also be important to ensure that all students regardless of race, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability participate and do not feel excluded in the music education.  This is the 21st century and no student should be left out or left behind. 

10.  The last general principle which might be as important as the others or even more important in some situations is to infuse in students the desire to never stop learning.  In that regard, I recollect that the oldest student to ever attend school was Guadalupe Palacios of Mexico who in 2018 was 96 years of age.

For my concluding remarks, I would like to reprint a poem that I wrote and posted on my blog:

I taught at a new institution.

The school bells were ringing.

It wasn't the only music;

The students were singing.

In the lower grades

Songs were mixed with dance.

Nobody was left out;

Everyone got a chance

There were virtual field trips,

To the museum or opera house.

Every destination was available,

At the click of a mouse.

Older students had educational apps and games.

Others used phones, laptops, and IPads.

I was very impressed;

The school produced successful grads.

The curriculum kept expanding,

As new technology was integrated.

I'm fairly certain that,

This was not something Mr. Steiner ever contemplated.
