wada sez: You may recall previous strips by Waseem Bashar have also leaned into the Beast Machines premise of Cybertron’s organic core. This one features a proper motley crew of characters, including some Inhumanoids! I've tagged the bird in the top-left of the bottom panel as Energon Divebomb, specifically the blue redeco thereof, but I'm not actually sure, he's freaking tiny. What’s my favorite character in Dinotrux?

Blayde! SHE IS SO COOL AND HER DESIGN LOOKS SO AMAZING!! LIKE I LOVE SHE IS GIRLBOSS CHARACTER AND SMART LIKE THE BOOTY TRAPS IN HER CAVE, THE WAY SHE FOOLED THE DINOTRUX INTO THINKING THAT GEORGE WAS IN HER CAVE BUT WASNT, AND HAVING A BACKSTORY!!

However, she was done dirty in the show. Same thing with Pounder and Spittor. I wish we get to see them again.

I do have some negatives about Blayde. D-Structs is the reason that she was evil in the first place! No because D-Structs attack Dozer and Blayde’s herd. HE LITERALLY TOOK AND DESTROYED EVERYTHING THAT THEY HAD. I would understand Blayde would have a revenge arc but instead, she just bullies other dinotrux. I don’t understand why she did that instead. Not only that, SHE JOINED THE SAME PERSON(D-STRUCTS) WHO LITERALLY TOOK EVERYTHING AWAY FROM HER!! Maybe D-Structs manipulated her to join his side or Blayde would backstabbed D-Structs in the end but no, it didn’t happen.

I wish they give Blayde more character development.. I love her. Also I feel like Blayde and Knock-It would be besties because they hate D-Structs. Also they would be unstoppable together. Same thing for Blayde and Pounder.. They are cool as besties too.

WHAT'S THIS? AFTER 20 YEARS SHE GETS A MEGA?

Well, it would seem, the moment has finally come for Raptomon.

In these past few months, I made and scrapped a lot of ideas, that just weren't coming out right, that just din't "feel" right. Until one day, I'm not even sure how or why, the design finally started materializing into my head. I was afraid I'd eventually scrap it, and I was sad because I was liking it. Yeah, liking it too much to scrap it. This was starting to feel right, which is weird after more than 20 years!

Last image is a selection of all the in progress design sketches I had saved, but I made many more that are forever lost, not counting the whole entire designs I just scrapped.

Some design notes here not to make the post too long:

NOW, about the design itself. I feel like this design is an amalgamation of many "design tropes" that I adore and they just felt right to be all put onto my partner of over 20 years. The references to the Mass Production Evangelions might be pretty easy to spot, but it's not the only influence. Look closely, and you'll catch elements inspired by the designs of the Pokemon Toxicroak, Spittor from Extreme Dinosaurs, 90's Jurassic Park Chaos Effect toys (in particular, the Velocirapteryx figure), and probably something else too!

The thing that gave me most trouble with the design? The wings. I didn't want to just make a larger AeroDeinomon, but getting rid of the wings as a whole concept seemed wrong. There was also the issue of the red black plates of the pre-evolutions. I didn't want to turn her into a Stegosaurus by making her plates bigger and more imposing. So many times, I had been tempted to remove the plates altogether, but at the same time, I felt they had to stay as they were into Deinomon design since the beginning. So, I merged the two issues into one and found a solution. The back plates became shards that come out of her body and turn into wings. I think static images aren't able to do them justice, but they're supposed to be looking like floating glass shards. I imagine they could also be rearranged, shot at the enemy, take different shapes… I feel like there's a lot to explore with this design element.

By the way, I'm sorry if the "peeled" image is disturbing! It ended up coming out a bit more horror-ish than I wanted, but I wanted to play with the "exposed flesh" design trope many Digimon have, and show the body structure underneath the cream-colored parts. I promise that outside of Halloween images ( :P ) I will try not to show her looking this creepy too often, lol.

Now, I'm not sure if she "feels" like a Mega Digimon. Does she? Even with many Megas looking like overly complicated humanoids and/or robots, some of my favorite Megas aren't really distinguishable from Champions just by design alone. Look at Plesiomon or Griffomon, for example… But, I think that seeing her next to her unevolved forms, it just feels like a natural evolution and that's what counts.

Now that you've seen Ravage, here's some Transmetal info!

No explanation is ever given for why, but who did or didn't get Transmetalized by the quantum surge follows some patterns:

Cheetor, Rattrap, Megatron, Tarantulas, Terrorsaur, and Scorponok are affected by the surge (though the last two die during it). These characters arrived to the planet already alive, not born via stasis pod.

Dinobot, Rhinox, and Waspinator presumably would have also been affected, but they were in restoration chambers and shielded from the surge.

Tigatron, Airazor, Blackarachnia, and Inferno weren't shielded form the surge, and weren't affected by it. They're all stasis pod characters.

Weirdly enough, bodies still in stasis pods during the surge were affected. Primal's new body and Rampage were Transmetalized. The Fuzors had the same resistance and stealth from the alien plant ship as Transmetals, implying they're partially Transmetal. Rampage outright states Transmutate is partially Transmetal.

Over on the toy side of things, all the season one characters got Transmetal toys:

Normal releases included Rhinox (third mode: snowmobile rhino), Airazor (pontoon plane bird), Waspintator (fighter jet wasp), Terrorsaur (vague slightly more vehicley pterodactyl) and… Scavenger?? (drilling vehicle ant). Inferno's Transmetal toy was renamed into a new character for its North American release, but remained Inferno for its Japanese release.

Dinobot, Blackarachnia, and Scorponok's Transmetal toys were simple McDonald's toys with no third mode.

Tigatron was the old one out, not initially having a Transmetal toy. Soon after he got a convention exclusive toy, a recolor of the Japan exclusive BW Ravage toy (itself a reworking of the Transmetal Cheetor toy)

Two toy-only characters also got """""""""Transmetal""""""""" toys, exclusive to Europe markets. Claw Jaw (squid) and Spittor (frog) were given new colors but still used their original, unchanged toy molds.

Poor Dinobot died for us and the most Transmetal he gets is a McDonald’s toy skdkdksj

Well I guess that explains why some people got transmetaled and others didn’t, shame we have to see a lot of this get done via the toys and not the show

Also there’s a squid and frog characters?? Tbh kinda glad they were never part of the show. If I saw a frog character in this animation style I’d never mentally recover (I have a fear of frogs)
