Honestly seeing how the most highlighted passages in Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq are the very in-line anti-colonial pro-"mother nature" passages is just really depressing to me. They're not bad passages, don't get me wrong! We hate colonialism, we love the Earth, and mainstream or not an indigenous woman is allowed to speak on it however she wants.

But there is so much MORE to the book that is unique to Tagaq's experience, and farther removed from a white audience, a non-traumatized audience, an audience who grew up in the suburbs of California or Austin. And so those passages aren't being highlighted.

The way Tagaq expresses her experience with dissociation capture the nature of it in the best way I have ever seen in a novel. She's plain and to the point with it, but even at face value those passages have a deeply profound understanding of what dissociation is like. Her perspective on the world is empathetic but very grounded in reality. The spiritual and fantastical scenes exist side by side with the rest of her experiences, and they are Real. Dreams can be spiritual. Visions can be spiritual. It's a spirituality you shouldn't take for granted.

But none of those passages are ever getting highlighted and shared anywhere. Why? Is it because you can't relate to a girl and her father culling starving foxes just because there's too many of them? Are the words "Empathy is for those who can afford it" something you just "disagree" with? Do you find the after effects of sexual abuse disgusting? Are the dreams and visions "too woo-woo" for you? Do you not believe in the intersection of spiritual enlightenment and the mundane? Do you not believe what she is telling you?

Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq!!! absolutely amazing, she’s also a contemporary throat singer which sometimes is like spoken poetry (Tongues and Aorta are my favorite songs of hers).

Because her content is centered around growing up on a reservation in Canada, she doesn’t hold back with telling stories about what it was like to be a woman there. lots of symbolism, everything (even graphic tw stuff) is honestly very well done because in her wiring style it is simply a fact. It’s in poems and a couple pictures and some more traditional wiring but there is a plot that runs through it.

some of the more basic TWs: SA (of a minor and adults), Monster fucking (it has meaning and stuff but that section is kinda graphic), domestic violence, mention of Boarding schools…

If you’re worried about any of those you should probably read an official list if you can find one or read the first few pages of the book because that really sets the tone for the rest of it.

S/axony is coin, blood,tinnitus and Ge/rmania is the heat and smoke of a fire, the reverberances of beating war drums etc

tumblr annihilated the quality of this so i added a text free image of him so ppl could actually see him! the quality will probably hold up better on my FA lol. i wanted to use a text tool in paint or sai to write all that out but they were either crunchy or just straight up not working for me today

anyway i have had levels boyfriend-adjacent guy in my head for months (almost a year honestly i think) but i only had a fuzzy idea for his design itself in my head and the many attempts i made to just find smth by doodling weren't promising. so while i still think this is a little complex for him (probably kinda overdesigned especially cuz im still so pleased with levels design and her color blocking and she has a great 'looks more complicated than she actually is to draw' design to me) and ill likely mess w it a bit in the future, im happy with where i ended up this time! i have a lot less experience drawing robots than i do just normal furries so figuring out pleasing shapes, lines, and plating for more inorganic stuff isnt rly second nature to me, but i'll get there, and im happy with him for now :-)

one thing i was trying to translate w his design that i couldnt fit on the ref was that since he's level's mechanic and he also does as much of his own servicing as he can, i wanted some of their plating and (minimal) greebling to be similar. zag has some plating styles he likes i think.. i did want their colors to contrast but still look good together :) i had to fight everything in me to not make him just teal. i love you teal. level had enough teal in her design lol. zag got a greener teal for highlights than level's 'beachier' color scheme bcuz i cant resist at least a LITTLE bit

Just watched the preview at the end of Unleashed, Conrad asking again if things are working, the Rani says they need to move faster and if only the wish baby were old enough to imagine complicated things but she has to work with Conrad instead…

I feel most likely she's working with (or experimenting on) Omega to re-create Gallifrey or something??? I keep coming back to that line about how she wants to bring life...

Ough and that "instead, I've got you..." if the theory that she's going to put the Master gold tooth into Conrad comes true... maybe Rogue can still be the Master if Missy bigenerated so Spymaster became the tooth and Missy became Rogue?

it may be freak behaviour (yay) but i love when i read a book and there's some folkloric mythological sex scene with a character and something like a gigantic owl or a man who's a fox or northern lights and then it makes strange babies too . i love these things happening and not being acknowledged as strange because rly its symbolic in a way but in general i just love strangeness treated matter of factly
