Avoid Costly Home Repairs: The Importance of Regular Gutter Maintenance
Tumblr media
When it comes to protecting your home, few systems work as hard behind the scenes as your gutters. At Blackridge Roofing, we’ve seen firsthand how neglected gutters can lead to major — and expensive — damage. Whether it's a leaky roof, mold growth, or even foundation problems, the cost of ignoring gutter maintenance can add up quickly.
Routine gutter maintenance is not just a seasonal task; it’s a year-round responsibility that plays a crucial role in preserving the structural integrity and longevity of your home. If you're in Salt Lake, Utah, or Davis County, keeping your gutters in top condition is especially important due to seasonal weather changes.
Why Gutter Maintenance Matters
Gutters are designed to channel rainwater and melting snow away from your roof, siding, and foundation. When they’re clean and properly functioning, they prevent:
Water damage to your roof and attic
Foundation cracking or erosion
Mold and mildew growth
Damage to soffit and fascia boards
Landscape erosion and basement flooding
But when gutters become clogged or damaged, water overflows and begins to pool in places it shouldn't — setting the stage for costly repairs.
Common Gutter Issues Homeowners Face
Many homeowners don’t realize there’s a problem with their gutters until the damage is already done. Some common issues include:
Clogged gutters due to leaves, twigs, and debris
Sagging gutters from accumulated debris or poor installation
Leaks and holes caused by corrosion or storm damage
Improper drainage due to misaligned or undersized downspouts
Addressing these issues early through regular gutter repairs and maintenance can save you thousands of dollars in long-term repairs.
Seasonal Gutter Care: What to Know
Spring & Summer
In spring and early summer, inspect for debris buildup and damage caused by winter storms. This is the ideal time for professional cleaning and checking for any signs of rust, cracks, or loose fasteners.
Fall
Autumn is peak season for clogged gutters due to falling leaves. Regular inspections and cleanouts during this time can prevent water overflow and ice dam formation as temperatures drop.
Winter
Ensure gutters and downspouts are clear before snowfalls. Ice dams can cause significant roof damage if your gutters are already blocked or compromised.
Benefits of Professional Gutter Maintenance
DIY gutter cleaning might seem simple, but it often misses hidden issues like micro-leaks, improper slope, or loose brackets. Hiring professionals like Blackridge Roofing ensures a thorough inspection, proper alignment, and long-term performance of your gutter system.
We offer:
Seamless aluminum gutter installation
Expert repair of damaged or leaking sections
Downspout realignment and replacement
Full-system inspection for wear and tear
With over 50 years of combined experience, our team knows how to spot issues before they become major problems — saving you both money and stress.
Protect More Than Just Your Roof
Gutters are interconnected with many other parts of your home, including the roof, soffit, fascia, siding, and even your interior. When one part fails, others soon follow. That’s why it’s important to view gutter maintenance as part of a holistic home protection strategy.
In fact, at Blackridge Roofing, we also specialize in:
Roof repairs and replacements
Soffit & fascia repairs
Siding installation
Painting and remodeling services
So if our inspection reveals additional damage, we’re equipped to fix it all — no need to hire multiple contractors.

I don't have the time or tbh the knowledge to write it but I have a desperate need for a full on Hallmark nonsense of an AU fic where Tommy inherits...let's say a great aunt's house in a small town and moves there with the intention of fixing it up and selling it on. And Buck works for Bobby who runs a...let's say hardware store/small time contracting business.
So Tommy shows up and has VASTLY underestimated what needs to be done so he goes to the store to buy like...paint and very much the wrong kinds of brushes and is baffled and a little annoyed when Bobby manages to get out of him what he's in town for and says "humour me and take our card, okay?"
And the house is just a DISASTER, like issues with every single part of it except MAYBE the foundations and something, idk, springs a leak and in desperation he digs out Bobby's card and calls but it's Buck who shows up because it's night time and everyone else is with their family. So Tommy is shirtless and wet (naturally) and Buck is tired and filterless (naturally) and after Buck fixes the immediate issue they collapse onto the couch and Tommy offers him a beer and says "this was so stupid, I don't know why I thought I could do this, I'll just sell it for what I can get for it now and head home" and Buck says "ajfshdhsia NO!!!" without fully knowing why because why does he care if this DEVASTATINGLY ATTRACTIVE man leaves town before he can ask about his workout routine (he DOESN'T care, that's why) and within about ten minutes has put together a plan and a budget and a timeline for the reno and Tommy looks at him with Those Eyes (you know the ones) and welp, they're both done for, but they don't know it yet.
So the house gradually gets fixed up and Tommy has to keep reminding himself this isn't going to be his house, and Buck has to keep reminding himself Tommy's leaving town when this is done and Eddie has to remind Buck that in real life, people get sued for causing damage they then get paid to repair so a job drags out longer.
ANYWAY at some point Buck and Tommy are alone in what's rapidly becoming something other than the shell of a house and Tommy looks around and says "I think this was the first brave thing I ever did" and Buck knows by now that this guy was in the army, what the hell is he talking about, but he also knows that no one packs up their whole life and moves to a small town sight unseen because they're THRILLED with the way things are going.
A N Y W A Y the point of all this is that at some point the elastic between them snaps because of course it does and they end up in bed (and by bed yes I do mean the mattress on the floor that Tommy has been resigned to because he is Like That) and Tommy keeps the t-shirt he was wearing that now has Buck's handprint in paint right over the heart because he is Also Like That and when he is packing up to leave this accidentally perfect home they've made together he just thinks, no, no, absolutely not. You know what would really be brave? And he finds himself outside Buck's apartment in the rain (naturally) with that paint stained shirt clutched in his fist, ready to beg for a chance but before he can, Buck bursts through the door wild-eyed and fumbling with his car keys, ready to follow Tommy out of town if that's what it takes. And then we get an Evan and a Yes and we rolllll credits.

⠄⠂⠁⠁⠂⠄⠄ WOVEN BEAUTY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To bestow the Master of Fate a crown, you worked diligently as he sat by your side, intrigued and flattered by your determination. And when you were finished, you could not wait to crown him as he deserved.
Tumblr media
pairing ― mof!zayne x f!reader word count ― >700 cw ― fluff, teasing note ― we need more mof!zayne and I rose to the call with @starmocha's help!
Tumblr media
The stems between your fingers were small, delicate things — smooth to the touch of your fingertip, and pliable as the fibre of cloth that you stitched together to repair.
It was beautiful. Golden rays shone down through the scattered canopy above to bathe the blooming buds in yellow sunshine, crisp as the morning air. The clearing was full of the call of birds, their small, round bodies darted by you as they went about their own morning routines — more than once you spied a worm dangling from the beak of a mother bird, no doubt on the way to feed her hatchlings.
The climate was far too rigid for the thriving possibility of butterflies, and your heart ached with their absence. Every visit during the spring would be decorated so lushly with colours you could have scarcely imagined on the wings of your companions — it was dull without them.
You sighed softly, still fidgeting with the half-made flower crown as you looked around the clearing.
“Something on your mind?” Zayne asked quietly, his voice just above a whisper as to not disturb the serene silence.
“I miss the butterflies,” you lamented, a frown on your lips. “It’s not the same without them.”
Zayne nodded once and tilted his head to observe a small flock of sparrows as they foraged by his feet. Their small bodies flittered in and out of his sprawled legs and the long tails of his robes. The soles and top of his boots were earthen brown from the flicked mud of beaks.
“I’m certain they will return with the new season,” he said quietly. Wisps of raven-coloured hair stirring with the gentle breeze. “They may be as restless as you and return sooner, you never know.”
“Hmph.”
A comfortable silence stretched as you sat there beside him, still fiddling away absentmindedly with the flower crown.
Occasionally, Zayne leaned forward — carefully, as to not disturb the chirping birds at his feet — so he could pluck a stem or twig from the mounds of snow to add to your collection.
You gratefully accepted the offerings, smiling shyly when your fingertips brushed against his glove.
Before long, the flower crown was woven with breathtaking hues of green and white — the stems lead to white blooms, a making of your own evol — while the foundation of twigs and thicker greenery strengthened the circle.
You beamed down at the crown with pride, turning it this way and that way to catch the beams of sunlight on the sparkling flowers.
“Beautiful,” Zayne whispered, and you gasped quietly in surprise.
You turned to berate him for scaring you, but you found he wasn’t even looking at the finished product you displayed with the utmost pride, no. He was staring at you.
Forest green and gold eyes shone with the golden rays of the morning sun, catching the reflection of freshly fallen, white snow. A tiny smile, barely even noticeable if you hadn’t truly known Zayne, pulled at the corners of his lips.
“Oh hush, you,” you spluttered, quickly glancing back down at your lap. “Flattery won’t work on me.”
“It won’t?” he asked, a teasing lilt to his rasped voice. “Then tell me why your crown is suddenly more interesting than maintaining eye contact with me. I’m sure the answer would be riveting, no?”
Scrunching your nose in embarrassment, you stared intently at the petals of your flowers — he had you there, damn him.
In a last-ditch effort to distract him from his quest of flattery, you adjusted the hold you had on your crafted crown and held it up towards the sky. “What’s more interesting,” you began, “is how pretty Shifu would be once I place this flower crown on his far-too-large head, hmm?”
Zayne laughed. His shoulders shook with the sound, and a rare grin made his eyes crinkle with delight — though it only lasted a mere moment.
You shuffled forwards and leaned towards him, the crown still held aloft, and you placed it on his head. It sat perfectly (if only a little crooked) around his head and it rested perfectly above the gold strands of his headpiece tucked into the roots.
An indignant snort of protest made him choke, then he sneezed at the sudden proximity of greenery.
“He is very pretty,” you cooed sweetly, batting your lashes.
Zayne only stared back at you, his body still leaning away from you with one eyebrow arched in challenge. “You are impossible.”
“Mm. You do enjoy it, though.”
There was no protest to your statement. Instead, Zayne sighed in resignation and sat up properly, his shoulder bumping into yours.

Another consideration about Feysand's river mega mansion (because I can't let this go)...
Is that it was built on the foundation of several other mansions, where the rich of Velaris lived pre-hybern attack. So I'm under the assumption that this was a fairly large amount of space used to build this monstrosity. In a city with limited realty space. So they took the best and most highly sought-after spot in town and then built a giant mansion atop it, thus preventing anyone else from rebuilding there.
Me, as a Velaris town member, who just had my townhouse demolished, staring up at the mansion: what in the actual...Hel?
Meanwhile, again, for comparison sake, Tamlin, Lucien, and Early Book 2 Feyre...saw a crumbled spring court village and repaired it. They didn't say: "Hey, this is prime real estate. Let's build ourselves a mega mansion here."

In the Garden - A Raindro Drabble
Pairing: Joel Miller x reader Rating: Fluff AGAIN? Word Count: 1307 a/n: I STRUGGLED with this one, but I finally came up with something for the color green! I went back and forth between Frankie and Joel about a million times but finally, I landed here!
You're always in your garden.
It's the first thing he notices when he moves into the house across from yours, your consistently growing presence in his awareness distracting him more often than he'd care to admit. But it's hard for him not to notice when the little plot of land behind your house morphs from nothing more than a pile of dirt into a thriving array of color unlike anything he's seen in the last twenty years. Flowers and vegetables and an assortment of herbs fill the once empty space, all while he watches from his porch across the street.
But you notice him, too. You notice the quiet hesitation that seems to surround him. You notice how withdrawn he is, rarely interacting with anyone outside of the girl he arrived with and his brother. And, of course, you notice the way he observes you when he thinks you won't notice, quietly strumming at his guitar as some kind of cover. You never feel anything more than a basic curiosity about Jackson's newest resident, the whispers in town enough to keep most of it at bay, but you still notice.
It's only when you're struggling to fix the gate to your garden that it all changes.
"I can fix that," he mumbles gruffly, suddenly in front of you instead of on his porch where you'd last spotted him. Granted, the repair had gotten out of hand, and you'd already spent most of the afternoon fighting with the hinges.
A part of you wants to resist, to prove your worth. After all, he doesn't really know you, and you've spent the better part of the last two decades having to do just that with everyone you meet to earn their respect. But there's something in his gaze, a kind of gentleness, that makes you reconsider.
"That...that would be nice."
Joel fixes the gate with practiced ease, all while you watch from a few feet away. He waves off your thank you when he finishes, leaving you silent in your garden as he crosses back to his home as though nothing had happened.
It's enough for your curiosity to grow.
"What's this for?" he asks the following day when you're standing in his doorway with a basket of flowers in your hands. He looks like he could be ready to go at any moment, jacket on and boots laced up, and you can't help but wonder if he's uncomfortable. Not just in this moment, but here. in Jackson.
"It's a thank you. For fixing my gate," you explain, hoping that the smile on your face as you offer them will be enough to settle his soul, but he only stares at you with narrowed eyes. "I know it's kind of silly to be growing flowers now, after everything, but..." you trail off, suddenly more self-conscious than you were a moment ago. "You know what, nevermind..." you start, already turning away.
He clears his throat, effectively pausing you before your foot can hit the first step. "Haven't had flowers to admire in a long time."
You freeze, sucking in a breath as you force yourself to turn back around. "That's why I grow them," you clarify, "because I think that we all deserve to have something beautiful to admire even when the world has gone to shit."
Fresh flowers end up on his kitchen table weekly after that.
Spring blooms into summer, and eventually transitions into fall, the contents of your garden passing through their seasons until it is once again barren and brown. You long for an excuse to show up on Joel's doorstep, but there isn't one. It leaves you with the realization that the effortless ease of your blossoming relationship, whatever that might be, is built largely on the foundation of your weekly visits, and without them, there's little you can do.
But Joel finds a solution, and it makes you wonder if he misses you, too.
"You still want to learn guitar?" he asks one evening, his boots on your front porch as he stands there with a guitar in hand. "I thought you said something about it this summer but..."
"I do," you blurt out almost instantly, your nerves spiking only to be soothed a moment later by the expression on his face.
When you welcome him inside, he takes off his jacket. It's the first time you've seen him without it, even in the midst of summer, and it's like he's removed a protective layer. You don't take it for granted. Not when he sits you down on the couch and positions your hands on the neck of the instrument and not in the weeks that follow.
And so, as winter sets into Jackson with brutal force, the two of you trade weekly flowers for weekly lessons. At first, he leaves right after, but then he starts to stay - for dinner, for a movie, for conversation - worn down by your constant insistence that it's the least you can do in repayment. Ellie will appear sometimes too, the three of you forming some kind of routine as you wait for the ground to thaw again.
They both help you plant when it does.
Ellie leaves halfway through, the initial novelty wearing off before you're even to the carrots. Joel, however, stays, the two of you working quietly in between the occasional conversation about life in Jackson. You don't even bother to ask if he's going to stay for dinner as you rise from your knees to observe the completed project, wiping the dirt from your hands onto your jeans before making your way inside.
Likewise, he doesn't say anything as he falls into step beside you, but you pause to watch when he follows your lead, carefully removing his boots at the back door. It's just to keep your floors dirt-free, you know that, but it's also the first time you've seen his socked feet, and suddenly a fire swirls low in your belly. It feels like you're witnessing something scandalous, another one of his defenses finally broken down.
If he notices the way you stare, he doesn't bring it up, but you know he catches the blush on your cheeks by the way he's smiling when you both make your way into the kitchen. It was never something you expected, the kind of relationship you now have with Joel, but as you stand beside him chopping the last of the vegetables from the fall before, you realize that it's become something you can no longer imagine your life without.
"Can I ask you something?" you voice before you can stop yourself, your eyes never leaving the cutting board in front of you.
Joel leans against the counter at your side. "You're gonna ask it anyway, so might as well go ahead."
His response makes you smile, and it's enough to get the next words out of your mouth before you can change your mind. "Do you ever think about us? I mean...like, the two of us?"
You don't look at him, heart beating loudly in your chest as you wait for his response. Your anxiety spikes in the silence, the weight of his consideration hanging over you until rough hands encapsulate yours, gently easing the knife from your grip so it rests on the board. He doesn't encourage you to look at him, and you understand immediately that it's because this step, this moment of growth, is something that has the potential to overwhelm you both.
"Yeah," he whispers anyway. "I do."
"And?" you ask, suddenly desperate to understand the meaning behind the way his calloused thumbs now run over your skin in a steady pattern.
"And I think that everyone deserves to have something beautiful to admire," Joel returns softly. "I'm just somehow lucky enough to have that thing be you."

Hi how would people feel about me doing like... IDK maybe $5-$10 ko-fi commissions of Fun Facts And Trivia you can pull out when you visit NYC to sound smart to your family
Basically you send me a place, and I tell you (some of) The Cool Shit that you'd get from a tour guide.
For example: NYPL and Bryant Park.
This entire block used to be a water reservoir, called the Croton, which held water delivered by aqueduct from the Croton river in Westchester.
Prior to the Croton reservoir, the water in NYC was limited to that drawn from a single spring, which was controlled by mobs. Lots of price gouging.
The pipes were made of wood, and also introduced by, among others, Aaron Burr.
The reservoir was dismantled after decades due to its immense size being an eyesore and a waste of valuable real estate in the center of Manhattan. Instead, they built the Central Park reservoir, which is today a lake; it was decommissioned in 1993 and renamed after Jackie Kennedy shortly after.
Water now comes from upstate, in some massive underground tunnels. Which leak. One of them is the longest tunnel in the world. The ones that actually come into the city are the absolute deepest tunnels we have here. There are two major ones, which do both leak. They're building a third to replace it. They started construction in 1970. They expect it to finish by 2032.
You can still see some of the original bricks of the reservoir making up the foundation of the library; they are on display indoors
The library collection dates back to 1895, but the flagship building wasn't completed until 1911.
Those lions out front are so iconic they inspired their own PBS TV show, Between the Lions, designed to teach basic phonics to children in first or second grade.
There are displays in the library that are like a little museum exhibit, complete with deacons that give free tours!
Best NYC public institution merch shop at the moment (the Met downsized for some repairs).
Bryant Park has an ice skating rink in the winter!
There's an amazing holiday village (small business/crafter stands) in the winter, and similar makers fairs on some other holidays. Other parks and squares do the same thing!
It has a courtyard. Most NYC buildings don't.
While it's the flagship library and does technically loan out works, most of the collection in NOT publicly accessible. It's for specialized research these days, and most of the books are held underground in some heavy-duty mechanized bookshelves.
There is a "normal" library kitty-corner for the normal library needs.
Try the waffles.

Katherine May's "Wintering" offers a powerful counterpoint to our society's relentless pursuit of productivity. It reminds us that embracing periods of rest and retreat, both physically and emotionally, is essential for our well-being. Here's a look at some key lessons:
1. The Power of Pause:
We often view rest as a sign of weakness, but "Wintering" reframes it as a necessary pause for repair and reflection. Just like nature withdraws in winter, allowing the land to rest and replenish, we too need times of quiet introspection. This "wintering" allows us to process experiences, heal from emotional wounds, and gain clarity on our path forward.
2. Facing the Dark to Find the Light:
Difficult times are inevitable, but "Wintering" encourages us to see them as opportunities for growth. When we allow ourselves to fully experience the darkness, the frustration, or the sadness, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our strengths. It's by confronting these shadows that we emerge stronger and more resilient.
3. Nature as a Sanctuary:
The natural world has a profound restorative power. The book highlights the benefits of spending time in nature, whether it's a walk in the park or a hike in the wilderness. Immersing ourselves in the beauty and tranquility of nature can provide solace, a sense of perspective, and a reminder of our connection to something larger than ourselves.
4. Self-Compassion: Your Greatest Ally:
When facing challenges, it's easy to fall into self-criticism. Katherine emphasizes the importance of self-compassion. Be kind to yourself, acknowledge your struggles, and celebrate your small victories. Prioritize activities that nourish your mind, body, and spirit, just like you would nurture a loved one going through a tough time.
5. Slow Down to Savor the Journey:
Our fast-paced world often leaves us feeling overwhelmed and disconnected. "Wintering" challenges us to slow down and appreciate the present moment. This may involve simplifying our schedules, setting realistic goals, or practicing mindfulness techniques. By embracing a slower pace of life, we create space for creativity, deeper connections with others, and a greater appreciation for the beauty of everyday life.
6. Redefining Productivity:
Productivity isn't just about churning out tasks; it's about creating a foundation for sustainable well-being. This profound read encourages us to redefine productivity. It's about taking care of ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. When we prioritize our well-being, we create the space for sustained focus, creativity, and accomplishment.
7. The Comfort of Rituals:
Routines can provide a sense of stability and comfort, especially during difficult times. "Wintering" highlights the power of rituals in creating a sense of structure and purpose. Establishing meaningful routines, whether it's a morning meditation practice or a weekly family dinner, can help us feel grounded and in control amidst uncertainty.
8. Find Your Wintering Practices:
Each of us needs different things to feel nurtured and supported during challenging times. "Wintering" encourages us to identify our own unique "wintering practices." This may include activities like meditation, journaling, spending time with loved ones, engaging in creative pursuits, or simply taking a long bath. It is important to experiment and find what works best for us, as it'll help us create a toolbox of self-care strategies we can rely on when needed.
9. Hope for Spring:
"Wintering" reminds us that even the harshest winters eventually give way to spring. This offers a powerful message of hope and resilience. No matter how difficult things seem, there is always the potential for growth and renewal. By embracing the lessons of winter, we can cultivate the inner strength and resources to navigate life's challenges and emerge stronger and more whole on the other side.
