Fic Idea
Post 8x05
Bobby's acting strangely—not overtly, but just enough that everyone is side-eyeing each other. Buck decides to hang back after his shift one morning and catches Bobby still in his office. He asks him what's up, and Bobby admits that even though Gerrard is gone, that doesn't mean the budget cuts also went away. The good news is that with union pushback, instead of firing someone, they've agreed to rotating month-long furloughs, effective Nov 1st.
Buck immediately volunteers for A shift. He'll do Nov and Dec. Bobby says he can't let Buck sacrifice that much of his paycheck. Buck tells him he's got enough stocked away for a couple of months and that he wants to do this. It might even be good for him.
The first month is really good. Tommy works 48/96, so they get four full days off together and it's amazing. They had a mini vacation in Palm Springs where they went stargazing, hung out by the pool, and spent a day in Joshua Tree.
Buck gets in a lot of reading and knocks down his sizable tbr. He fills in as a sitter for Jee-Yun and enjoys the hell out of spending time with his niece (never mind her deep disappoint on the days Tommy isn't there too). He also gives himself a full day of doing nothing but scrolling his phone. He jumps from one Wikipedia article to another and explores exceedingly niche substacks.
And he still gets 118 time. At least once a week he goes in and cooks a filling lunch for them. He does it at the 217 too, where they sing his praises. He even spent two days being a firefighter when Chim came down with a cold. All in all his month off was pretty amazing, and he figures December would be a piece of cake. He's so sure that he tells Bobby he'll take January too.
Except it stops being a piece of cake. Two days in and he's already restless. It doesn't help when Tommy, Chim, and Eddie show up and tell him how they worked together for a rooftop rescue at Nakatomi Tower. Buck doesn't know the building and asks where it's located. The guys are dumbfounded. "Like, Die Hard, man," Eddie tells him. "Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs?" Tommy says hopefully. "Die Hard...Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker?" Chimney prods. "Oh, yeah," Buck says, having it all click together.
After that his aimlessness really takes hold. He keeps himself busy by feeding the 217 breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the days Tommy works. On his second day, one of Tommy's crew tells him, "You know, you should start taking orders. Make some money since they won't let you fight fires.
Buck's surprised at how fast the idea takes hold. He spends all four of his days with Tommy talking about it. He feels like he's vibrating out of his skin, and he falls just a little more in love with Tommy when he tells Buck that his idea is not only good, but that he knows a guy who can help make it happen.
Buck next goes to his team and explains his idea. He's going to open a sandwich service. Nearby fire stations will send in orders the day before, the sandwiches will be made the next morning, and delivered throughout the afternoon. Tommy has a friend who will rent out commercial kitchen space to him, and the employees will be fellow furloughed firefighters. They wouldn't be making the same pay, but they would be making something instead of draining out their savings like Buck. Eddie's all in, but Hen and Chim are a little more hesitant. Whether they come around or not, that's okay. Buck plans on starting small and thinks he can do it with three or four people, and he has multiple firehouses to pull from. But he knows his biggest hurdle is coming up with the start-up cash.
He toys with the idea of asking his parents for a loan. They were willing to fork over money for Chim and Maddie's down payment, and they swear up and down they want to make amends, so if Buck needs to use guilt to get a cut, he will. Before he can work up the nerve to ask, Tommy hands him a card and calls it an early Christmas present. Inside is a check for 10k. Buck's floored and misty eyed. He asks how and why and are you sure? Tommy pulls him in and tells Buck that he's sure. That he believes in Buck and wants to do whatever he can to help him succeed. Including making sandwiches.
And that's it. That's all I've got. Purged from the system.

Beaumaris Castle
Beaumaris Castle, located on Anglesey, Wales, was built from 1295 CE by Edward I of England (r. 1272-1307 CE) to protect his territorial gains in the region. The castle featured the latest defensive designs of the period such as round towers, inner and outer circuit walls, massive towered gates and a fortified dock. Beaumaris Castle is considered one of the finest surviving examples of a concentric medieval castle and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Edward I & Wales
From 1272 CE Edward I, the new king of England, conquered most of Wales and joined it with the county system present in England. Following the death of Llywelyn, the Prince of Wales, in 1282 CE, the only part of Wales which remained free was the wild mountainous north, and here the king built several major castles including Caernarfon, the most important. Then in 1294 CE, a Welsh revolt broke out led by Madog ap Llywelyn, and although it was put down, Edward realised the need to further strengthen his grip on the region and the Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Mon) in particular, an important source of food. Anglesey, like other sites Edward built castles upon, also had a significance to the Welsh people, both commercially as an important trading and fishing centre and as the location of a Welsh royal manor and a Franciscan friary. Consequently, Beaumaris Castle was built there to control both the island and the coastal shipping routes and to remind the Welsh that a new order had been established.
The chief architect and engineer who planned and oversaw the construction of Edward's castle was the experienced Master James of St Georges (c. 1235-1308 CE), who was also involved in Edward's other castles in Wales such as Harlech Castle, Conwy Castle, and Caernarfon Castle. From the spring of 1295 CE, Master James supervised a massive team of masons, carpenters, blacksmiths, and labourers - up to 3,500 workmen at the summer height of activity on the castle. These workers came from across the kingdom such as ditch diggers from Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, woodcutters from the West Midlands, and masons from Dorset. A letter from Master James to the King's Exchequer, written in February 1296 CE, attempts to justify the escalating costs and gives a good idea of the scale and difficulties of building a medieval castle:
In case you should wonder where so much money could go in a week, we would have you know that we have needed - and shall continue to need - 400 masons, both cutters and layers, together with 2,000 less skilled workmen, 100 carts, 60 wagons and 30 boats bringing stone and sea coal; 200 quarrymen; 30 smiths, and carpenters for putting in the joists and floor boards and other necessary jobs. All this takes no account of the garrison…nor of the purchases of material, of which there will have to be a great quantity…The men's pay has been and still is very much in arrears, and we are having the greatest difficulty in keeping them because they simply have nothing to live on.
(quoted in Gravett, 11-12)
At least costs were reduced in the area of transportation of stone as Beaumaris used local sources of limestone, sandstone and metamorphic schist. The speed at which the castle was built would suggest that it was already planned when the other Welsh castles were designed and built in the 1280s CE. Beaumaris was already a serviceable defensive structure after just one year of construction, however, work continued over the next few years and minor additions were made to the castle right up to 1330 CE.
Beaumaris, the last of Edward's castles in North Wales, was intended to be both a military stronghold and an impressive symbol of the king's power in the region, not to mention an aesthetically striking one (hence the name). It is interesting to note the deliberate and visually appealing use of lighter limestone in the lower courses of the outer walls and the darker limestone in those above. The castle eventually cost at least 13,000 pounds (about $20 million today) and was never entirely finished - the outer towers and main gates were intended to be greater in height. Still, as the historian and castle expert N.J.G. Pounds succinctly puts it, "Beaumaris was geometrically the most perfect of the Edwardian castles, and the skilful engineering of its towers, gates and water defences have never ceased to astonish" (174).
The castle, at least in its early years, had a constable, one William de Felton, and an impressive permanent garrison of 22 knights, 20 crossbowmen, and 100 archers. After 1296 CE the archers were withdrawn from the garrison, probably an indication of both the castle's completion and the quieter times in Wales.

I regret to inform you I’m writing a whole-ass embarrassing self-indulgent crossover romance novel about Amelie and Dell Honne. I’m going to explode. Send help.
The name of this story is Kintsugi. You’ll see why.
Amelie Sugar is a cheerful and naive aspiring internet singer. She was inspired after accidentally stumbling upon a song cover by internet singer White Crow. His vocals were soft and serene, yet filled with emotion. Ame imagines the person behind the voice to be very gentle, and wonders about where he could be from…
Ame lives in the Cozy House. This setting is in a fantasy world called Whimsica. In the forest in the arctic, there is a secluded town that’s entirely inside a building called the Cozy House.
The Cozy House includes-
A vast apartment complex
A huge, fun mall
A wide school campus, from kindergarten through college
Many, many stores and services
A general hospital
Recreation center with a park and hot springs
The time period is not like any on Earth. There are no such things yet as commercial planes and airports, but the internet has been around for a while. Ame has never been outside of the Cozy House. There are monsters and dangerous magic in the surrounding forest. Ame, who has never seen the outside world, has always wondered  about the distant lands. Maybe White Crow is from the other side of Whimsica. But because of the internet, Ame could hear his voice.
One day, Ame is at the Cozy House park and thinks she’s alone so she starts singing. But she isn’t alone. There’s a guy sitting behind her.
“Hey. Please stop.” He says.
Ame screams in shock. Someone was there!
“AHHH! You were listening?” Ame yells.
“Ouch! Yes! Your voice hurts my ears! You can’t sing!” The man says.
“…Yeah, I know I can’t sing.” Ame says. “That’s why I’m practicing! You didn’t exactly have to stay and listen!”
“Well, this was my spot.” The man said. “And I had to pay attention, you were butchering my favorite song. It was like hearing a trainwreck.”
“Oh? I like this song too!” Ame says. “Isn’t it great? Well, to be honest, I never listen to the original. I listen to this really good voice cover by this guy on the internet.”
“Internet singers don’t always have good technique.” The man says bluntly.
“What do you know about technique?” Ame says.
“A lot more than you, obviously.” The guy says. “Also, the original version is always better, because it’s the intended version of the song.”
“You don’t have to be so mean.” Ame says. “I’ll try the original version, okay? But I think White Crow has a wonderful voice. His covers really move me.”
Suddenly the taller person turns red, looking surprised. His eyes shift.
“Are you stupid?” He says, suddenly quiet.
“Sheesh, where did that come from?” Ame says. “You’re such a grump.”
“I’m not a grump. I’m just being real.” The man says. “White Crow is a complete amateur. You’re better off looking up to someone else.”
“He might not be great in your opinion.” Ame says. “But his voice really calms me down. I actually feel all kinds of emotions from his covers. He inspires me. I bet he’s a wonderful person!”
“He’s not… that great.” The stranger says softly.
“Why do you know about him anyway?” Ame asks.
“…I don’t believe this.” The man sighs. “Well, I’m sorry White Crow isn’t some nice, dreamy guy. Because I’m White Crow. It’s the alias I use—“
“WHAT.” Ame practically explodes.
The taller man rolls his eyes.
“Yes. I’m White Crow.”
“WHAT.”
“Yes. I’m not that great. But thank you, I guess. I never thought someone would appreciate my shitty voice.”
“OH MY GOD.”
He sighs.
“I can’t believe I’m standing right in front of you.” Ame says.
“Your taste is questionable.” White Crow says. “I’m not a celebrity.”
“Well, I’m happy I got to meet you!” Ame says.
“You aren’t disappointed that I’m an asshole?” White Crow scoffs a bit.
“Well, you ARE grumpy. But I don’t think that’s how you really are.” I said. “I’d like to get to know who you are.”
“You’re very strange.” White Crow says. “I feel like you’re making assumptions based on me just because you like how my voice sounds. I’m not the type to easily be friends with others. I suggest you keep your distance.”
“I could help with that.” I said.
“What?” White Crow says.
“I could help you make friends. You can start with me! So… what’s your name?”
“Ugh, would you please—“
“Just answer my question.”
“…Dell. It’s Dell.” He says.
“Hello, Dell. My name is Amelie, but you can call me Ame! Want to be friends?”
“As if I have a choice.” Dell says.
“I’d like for us to keep in touch.” Ame says.
“Well. Okay. Fine. Only because I think you’re sincere.” Dell says. “It’s just a weird feeling to be regarded by someone like this. I’m still kind of processing it all.”
———
(An eventual scene)
A ring came at the doorbell. It was Amelie.
A disgruntled mess of a man came out of the apartment, swinging the door open with a loud huff, his favorite mug in his hand.
“Amelie.” Dell growled. “What the hell are you doing at my apartment?”
“I was wondering if we could… play video games together. Or maybe even sing…” Amelie said in a small voice. She still felt a bit shy around him. Almost scared.
“I want to be alone.” Dell sighed. “How many times to I have to get that in your head? I don’t want you around!”
“But Dell, I can tell something isn’t right…” Ame chirped again.
“Go. Away.” Dell said. “You’re annoying.”
“I brought you some flowers…” Amelie said quietly, holding up a small bouquet of cosmos.
“…What? Those are from MY garden.” Dell said, his voice rising in volume. “The hell? You just ruined my flowers!”
Amelie flinched. In a sudden fit of rage, Dell took what was in his hands, the mug which was filled halfway with lukewarm coffee, and slammed it to the ground…
And it broke into pieces.
The sound was painful to the ear.
“Ah!” Dell gasped suddenly, eyes glued to the ground. “Shit! You… look what you made me do! I… No! I can’t believe this…”
Tears welled up in the young man’s eyes and began flowing down his face without warning. Then the sobs came, loud and uncontrollable. Ame simply stood there, stunned. She felt awful for Dell. That’s when it clicked.
Dell wasn’t grumpy or hostile. He was hurt.
And breaking that mug was what finally pushed him over the edge.
“Dell…” Amelie said quietly.
“Shut up and go away!” Dell lashed out through his tears.
“I can tell there’s something wrong.” Amelie said.
But to her surprise, Dell didn’t push her away this time.
“This mug… it belonged to my mother. Not my step-mother… but my birth mother, who passed away. It was the only thing I had left of her…”
“…It’s a very special mug.” Ame said gently.
“No kidding.” Dell attempted to be as sarcastic as a person possibly could be while they were crying. “You understand that much. Want a medal or something?”
“Listen. I’ll fix it, okay?”
“Yeah. Right.” Dell snarked. “You can’t. You’re just saying that.”
But to Dell’s surprise, Ame was picking up the pieces of the mug.
“Listen. I won’t repair it with just glue. I’m going to do kintsugi.”
“And what might that be?” Dell grouched.
“It’s a Japanese way of fixing what’s broken, using gold, making the cracks shine like art. It’s taking something broken, and turning it into something beautiful.”
“It won’t be the same.” Dell whimpered softly.
“I know it won’t.” Said Amelie. “But… it’ll be fixed.”
“You know… Dell. You’re kind of similar to this mug now. You just need some care and repair.”
Dell finally calmed himself down enough to stop his tears.
“Whatever.” He huffed.
Amelie smiled sincerely at him.
“This mug is special, broken or not.” She said. “You may be damaged like it, but you’re also still worth keeping around, okay? I think you just need a little kintsugi yourself.”
———
Eventually, Dell and Ame become close unlikely friends. Dell opens up more around Ame, and his first genuine smile feels like magic to her. They even sing a collaboration duet and upload it to the internet, Ame’s alias being Rosefinch, which is a pink bird. White Crow’s fanbase becomes excited at the new development—the mysterious solo singer had made a friend. Dell becomes more open with his emotions. The reason he sang anonymously, and with so much emotion, was because it was his hidden outlet. His favorite song that he covered is one about losing someone, alluding to his mother. His father and stepmother treated him very harshly, which is why he hid all his vulnerabilities.
———
More details about Amelie and Dell-
Amelie is half-Black and half-Korean. Her family is stable, but she’s somewhat isolated, an only child, and experiences loneliness as well. This is why she was so eager to get close to Dell. Deep down, they have more in common than Dell realizes. Amelie has dark skin and curly pink hair, which is why her alias is Rosefinch. She is 5 feet and 0 inches tall. She is 20 years old.
Dell is half-Japanese, and half-Russian from his birth mother’s side, with Indigenous Siberian heritage. He is albino, with white hair and reddish eyes. His alias White Crow is both a reference to his albinism, and it’s also a Russian saying similar to “black sheep,” meaning to be different. He has a younger Japanese half-sister named Haku, whose whereabouts are unknown. Dell is 5 feet and 11 inches tall. He is 24 years old.
———
After White Crow and Rosefinch upload their new cover, White Crow’s fanbase explodes with comments about how White Crow sounds happy for once. They can hear it in his voice. He was notable for his emotional covers of sad songs. But now he singing a hopeful duet with a companion. There is now speculation to who Rosefinch is and her relationship to White Crow, and how he was able to reach his heart.
Eventually, Dell tells Ame why he decided to name himself White Crow. This causes Ame to open up to Dell too, about her own loneliness. They promise to stick together.
The two singers remain anonymous, hidden behind their aliases. But White Crow ends up opening up about Rosefinch’s friendship and his life, when he shares the story about the special mug from his mother that he broke and how Ame repaired it with kintsugi. People begin shipping them together using kintsugi and birds as a motif. Their ship name is… Songbirds.
Dell got into the habit of smoking a while back, to relieve his stress. Amelie sees him take a cigarette out at the park and becomes so shocked she screams, just like when they met.
“Ouch! What was that scream about!”
“Dell… don’t smoke that. It’s bad for you. You’ll ruin your beautiful singing voice if you keep doing it. You might have health problems too. I don’t want to see you go through that.”
Dell eventually makes it a point to quit smoking because of what Amelie told him.
———

Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un Visits Construction Site of 10 000 Flats at Third Stage in Hwasong Area Nearing Completion
Pyongyang, March 16 (KCNA) -- Thanks to the capital city construction strategy set forth at the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the scientific and energetic leadership of the Party Central Committee, Pyongyang, the capital city of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, is turning into a world-class civilized city, taking on a majestic appearance peculiar to it.
Another large and splendid architectural group of 10 000 flats has been successfully built in the Hwasong area and is nearing completion, demonstrating a new era of prosperity of Pyongyang.
Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, gave field guidance at the construction site of 10 000 flats at the third stage in the Hwasong area on March 15.
Accompanying him were Pak Thae Song, premier of the Cabinet of the DPRK, Ri Hi Yong and Kim Tok Hun, secretaries of the WPK Central Committee, and other major senior Party and government officials and officials concerned of design institutions.
With a great ambition to turn the Hwasong area into a model in the layout of urban formation elements, a functional prototype of administrative district and a beautiful and modern urban quarter embodying a harmony of architectural formative and artistic beauty and advanced civilization, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un clearly indicated the orientation and ways for building its third-stage district into a quarter with another distinction different from the first- and second-stage districts, and energetically led the work of drawing up the construction plan, giving personal guidance to a huge amount of draft formation plans.
Thanks to the strenuous efforts of the soldier builders and civilian builders, who upheld with their death-defying executive abilities the ennobling intentions of the Party Central Committee to build all the creations on this land into the entities embodying the people-first principle to be found only in the great people’s country and into the innovative ones with marked individuality, another cradle of the people with skyscrapers, high-rise apartment houses and public buildings including educational, commercial and service facilities in ideal harmony has been magnificently built in a matter of one year.
Saying with pleasure that another new, large architectural group symbolic of the dynamic trend of the Korean-style change and development has appeared in a dignified way to add to the scenery of the Hwasong area which has undergone a dramatic change, Kim Jong Un expressed his great satisfaction over the fact that a higher level of material and cultural wellbeing can be provided to the people.
He learned in detail about the overall situation of the housing construction at the third stage in the Hwasong area nearing completion.
Going round the houses, he highly appreciated the quality of the overall building work, which made a stride forward in the housing construction at the third stage in the Hwasong area, and enjoyed a bird’s-eye view of the changed appearance of the Hwasong area unfolding scenic beauty of the socialist cultural efflorescence. He continued to say:
With the start of the significant groundbreaking ceremony in the spring of 2021 when I personally gave the flag of the headquarters for building 50 000 flats in Pyongyang to its commanding officers, a loud sound of blasting has resounded on this land every year to hasten the days of rejuvenation and the capital city of Pyongyang was enveloped in joy of the people moving into new houses in every April. This is truly a worthwhile struggle and pride in realizing our Party’s long-cherished desire.
When the fourth-stage construction in the Hwasong area is completed, ours will become a country, which has perfectly resolved the housing problem of the capital city, and we can be proud of this before the world. The construction in the Hwasong area, conducted vigorously year after year, has verified the development-oriented principles to be observed in opening up a new era of the capital city construction.
Ryomyong, Mirae Scientists and other new streets sprang up year after year, renewing the appearance of the capital city, but there has never been an urban quarter like the Hwasong area which has been erected on a large scale with perfect functionality in a short span of time. This is of great experimental significance in putting the new era of prosperity of Pyongyang on a higher level.
He then clarified all the tasks arising in achieving clear changes and progress suited to the new era by meeting the requirements of the Party’s policy and sustaining the modern character of our own style in construction, which is an epitome of national strength and civilization, and went on:
The Hwasong area has attained the political, economic and cultural functions as a full-fledged urban administrative district and turned into a centre and standard capable of leading the areas existing in the capital city to civilization and efflorescence. This is a significant development for enhancing the strategic functions and position of the capital city.
The precious experience gained in the construction of the Hwasong area, which proved the validity of our Party’s policy on the capital city construction and set an example in the layout of urban formation elements, should be applied proactively to the capital city construction field. In this way, we can accelerate the modernization of our style suited to the political character of the capital city of our state and the world trend of architectural development.
What is particularly important in pushing forward construction is to conduct the work of steadily regulating and renewing the legal guarantee for the urban formation and development in the capital city and regional areas and wage the nationwide construction strictly in accordance with the construction law of a new standard. It is necessary to readjust and reinforce the well-regulated system of working out plans for such urban formation elements as industrial buildings and sci-tech, educational and public health facilities in a logical, scientific and planned way in conformity with the population density and characteristics of relevant regions and then strictly deliberating them before they are applied to the construction.
Specially underlining the importance of the issues of successfully drawing up and giving precedence to the scientific and future-oriented design of urban infrastructure, realizing the modernization of this work and radically improving the level of urban management, he advanced important principles and tasks that should be regarded as guidelines in implementing the policy on developing the capital city.
Expressing his deep emotion over the fact that our Party, whose desire gets more intense whenever grave difficulties stand in its way and which dynamically works to attain it, is to see another splendid fruition–completion of the third-stage construction in the Hwasong area, he assigned the task for holding its inauguration ceremony with splendour in the lead-up to the Day of the Sun, the greatest auspicious holiday of the nation.

FBI Los Angeles recently confirmed the suspect accused of targeting a Palm Springs, California, fertility clinic in a car bombing on Saturday had access to a "large quantity" of chemicals that could have been used to make explosives.
The blast, which FBI Los Angeles assistant director Akil Davis called an "intentional act of terrorism," happened just before 11 a.m. local time near an American Reproductive Centers facility.
Guy Edward Bartkus, a 26-year-old "anti-pro-life" advocate from Twentynine Palms, allegedly set off a car bomb that killed him and wounded four others.
FBI Los Angeles confirmed on Tuesday Bartkus "had access to a large quantity of commercially available chemical products which could be combined to create a homemade explosive device."
Acknowledging the attack was "targeted," officials noted the incident was an act of domestic terrorism.
However, they did note it is "probably one of the largest bombing investigations that we've had in Southern California … on the scale of the Aliso Viejo bombing in Orange County," which killed one person and injured two others in 2018.
Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Miles said debris extended across multiple blocks, describing it as a "massive" crime scene.
Jason Pack, a retired FBI agent and hostage negotiator, told Fox News Digital it could take days for authorities to search for evidence of explosives through several blocks of rubble.
To determine the type and quantity of devices used, investigators will need to examine blast radius and structural impact to assess the power and direction of the explosion, and search for chemical residues of known explosive materials — such as ammonium nitrate, TATP, RDX, or PETN, according to Pack.
Key finds will also include fragments, shrapnel and device components, to help reconstruct the method of detonation.
"Whether this was a single large device or multiple smaller ones, those answers will come from detailed lab testing and scene reconstruction—not just visual assessment," Pack said.
Posts on social media showed nearby businesses with glass and debris blown out of windows.
"Terrorism came knocking on the door of Palm Springs," Miles said during a news conference Saturday night. "We survived, and I can tell you that this city will rise and be more and be more effective as a beacon of hope than before."
The American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic said no staff members were harmed, and while the building was damaged, the IVF lab—including eggs, embryos and reproductive materials—were spared.
"This morning, an unexpected and tragic incident occurred outside our Palm Springs facility when a vehicle exploded in the parking lot near our building," the company wrote in a Facebook post. "In the face of this tragedy, we remain committed to creating hope—because we believe that healing begins with community, compassion and care. … This moment has shaken us—but it has not stopped us. We will continue to serve with strength, love and the hope that brings new life into the world."
The Palm Springs Police Department's active call log listed multiple responses for medical service on the 1100 block of N Palm Canyon Drive, beginning just before 11 a.m. local time.
There were also various calls for burglaries in the area, according to police records.
In a statement on X, Attorney General Pam Bondi called the attack "unforgiveable."
In separate posts to X, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli and Gov. Gavin Newsom expressed their condolences and support for federal investigators working on the case.
The Palm Springs Fire Department, California Highway Patrol and Desert Regional Medical Center did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's requests for comment.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Office told Fox News Digital it is not responding to the incident.

Puma Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V
Mitsubishi TEST&SERVICE
Debuted in the second race. In qualifying, he suddenly took the first corner of R. In the finals, he was at the top for a while. 4th place in qualifying (1st in class), 4th in final (1st in class). Driver: Akihiko Nakatani/Sakae Obata.
③Suspension damper is KYB. The spring is Ralliart. ④Safety fuel tank is made by ATN. Capacity is 120ℓ. ⑤The steering wheel is MOMO buckskin. ⑥ The meter is Pi system. On the left is the Omori boost gauge. ⑦The door hinges are carved out because they hit the roll cage. (8, 9) was originally a work RS-Z (8JX 17). The tires are 225/45R17 ADVAN. 1⑩ Replace the radiator with one made by Denso. (11) The oil cooler is genuine. (12) Aero mirror is Valdisport. ⑬The rear is equipped with a differential cooler. LSD is Ralliart (viscous only in the center). (14)The roll bar passes through the bulkhead. The tower bar is Valdisport. There was a WRC plan for the ECU, but the current one is the original. Commercialization is also under consideration. (15)The muffler is thin, about 80mm. (16)The yellow part on the console is the starter, and the one below is the water spray. (17) The roll cage is for FIA-approved rallies. (18) shift is a sword. The knob is a small screwdriver, which is my preference. (19) seats are Valdisport Type II. (20) The roll cage looks like a bird cage. Please compare it with the Impreza on the right.
In the second race, they defeated the Nissan Development Team's GT-R. The tire size/tread has been expanded since Evo IV, reducing the time by approximately 2 seconds.
Exceeded IV in all aspects. There are no flaws!
``The new EVO V has solved all the shortcomings of the EVO IV . In particular, thanks to the wider tread, cornering speed has improved dramatically. It has become my specialty.'' Mr. Yamada of Test & Service maintains the ``Puma Evo,'' which achieved amazing times and came close to the G T-R. When building the vehicle, they placed emphasis on improving the suspension, which is subject to increased strain due to the increased cornering force. Therefore, in testing and service, even if a high input value is added, it cannot be accepted.
I decided to build a strong body. However, the main difference from the Impreza is that instead of welding reinforcement such as adding more spots, the main reinforcement is the extensive use of a strong roll bar that penetrates the body and is also used in WRC. Looking at each part, there are only a few welded parts. The weight is also 30kg more than the standard. This idea is common to the EVO era. With the reinforcement so far, the driver
``I can feel the movement of my feet''
It seems that the comments are satisfying. The engine has a proven track record of being packed to the hilt, starting with the Evo, and is powerful and stable enough to keep its rivals at bay. The cooling performance seems to be high, and the original oil cooler is used as is. “If we keep boiling it down like this, we can last for at least one fight.”
Nakatani seemed to be breathing heavily.
PROVA Eifel Dunlop GC8 Impreza
Debuted in last year's final race! Suddenly took first place in qualifying. This year, he will participate in the second race. 12th place in qualifying (8th in class), retired in finals. Driver: Kazuo Shimizu/Tsutomu Shibuya.
④ The fuel tank is 120ℓ. (5, 6, 7) All aero parts are Prova. The side duct is effective in cooling the brakes. ⑧⑨ The tires are DL/Formula R (205/ 50R16) and the Enkei Sports 7.5J x 16. (10) differential cooler is made by Calsonic. (11) The Prova damper and spring are Swift from Tokyo Spring. (12) Two oil coolers are installed on the engine and one on the transmission. In particular, the latter has a high calorific value and is a must-have item. The radiator is also a large capacity type. ⑬The steering wheel is Impul 913 special. (14)The engine is STi tuned. Management is the same as for WRC cars. The roll cage has been changed and the battery has been made smaller. (15)The seat is full carbon made by Mooncraft. (16) The roll cage is very simple. (17,18) meter is Pi system. On the console, from the right, there is a transmission oil pump, a differential oil pump, and a reserve tank switch for using up to the last liter. Below is a display switch for the Pi data logger. ⑲The square plate visible at the back of the rear center section is the weight. (20) The rear suspension mounting area has been fully reinforced with welding.
This is the first car that Fuji Heavy Industries has officially started working on, from rally to circuit. Once you get used to the world of racing, it can be intimidating.
Unexpected or unexpected. 4 doors are more rigid than 2 doors
``Thanks to the horizontally opposed engine, everything is symmetrical, which means excellent weight balance. This is the lifeblood and appeal of this car. Also, by making full use of the four-wheel drive provided, cornering performance is improved. However, it's the direction of the settings. Thanks to this, the advantage is that you can turn with the same feeling whether it's a rainy day or a sunny day.'' Mr. Fukushima from Bulova Race Garage will be participating in the race. However, the design is older than its rivals, and it seems that the body rigidity is completely lacking, so strengthening it is necessary for the vehicle.
The most important item in production. especially the way it twists
It is said that reinforcement has been focused on the suspension mounting area (to increase suspension rigidity). Also, since last year, the use of flashy two-doors has been allowed in Super Taikyu, but the only reason why four-doors are still used is because they are highly rigid.
The roll cage isn't used much either visually. This was done to reduce weight, and only the minimum necessary parts were included after thorough body reinforcement. The weight was 30kg lighter than the standard, and 30kg was placed as weight on the passenger seat and rear center to thoroughly improve the weight balance. The body is completely finished, but is this it?
Their problem is the engine. It's a little lacking in power. If I go up a little bit more, I can catch up with EVO. It seems like STi's hard work will determine what happens next.

Candy House - Electric Utopia: Chapter 3
Characters: Sora, Natsume & Tsumugi Season: Spring
TL Note:
In ancient Greek stories, Gorgon refers to a vicious female monster; any one of three sisters with snakes on their heads instead of hair, who can turn anyone that looks at them into stone.
The Amazons were a group of female warriors and hunters who were known for their physical agility, strength, archery, riding skills, and the arts of combat in Greek mythology.

Tsumugi: Welcome, Natsume-kun, Sora-kun.
I’m happy to see you’ve come all the way here, but I have some bad news for you two.
Natsume: I did have a feeling it wasn’t something goOD… Shouldn’t you be bringing up the bad news in a more subdued mannER? You make it sound like it’s just gossIP.
All with that smile on your faCE… You’re always like this, SenpAI.
Tsumugi: Well, all I can do in this situation is laugh, really.
I’ll cut to the chase: NewDi is going to be done for.
Sora: Wha? The agency was just established, though!
Tsumugi: Yes, you’re right, but...
Frankly, the agency’s management is in a rather miserable state and we’ll only end up in the red if we continue like this.
At this rate, it’s only a matter of time before NewDi is officially done for.
Sora: Even Sora knew that was coming, but… is it really that bad?
Tsumugi: It is… I did try my best to keep things afloat, but it wasn’t enough.
It’ll be like a post-war clean up, trying to put an end to things while leaving as little damage as possible.
Sora: It sounds like when a game app ends its service~...
Natsume: Not even god or Buddha exists, hUH. Oh, they’re so heartleSS.
Tsumugi: No, no. Actually, a ray of light shone on us this morning.
A miracle happened.
Natsume: Could you not say that in a tone that sounds like you’ve opened a cafe or somethiNG?
Sora: HaHa~♪ Senpai always speaks with the same “colour” no matter what the topic is, so it’s hard to tell whether it’s something good or bad~
Tsumugi: I can’t quite say whether it’s good or bad at this point. It really sounds like some sort of joke.
We received a partnership proposal from a major company this morning.
All of the agency’s problems won’t be solved if we agree to the partnership, but well, at the very least, we should be able to continue our operations normally.
The major company promised us a large amount of funding.
We can use it to pay off the loan we took out to establish the agency as well as for our business funds.
It would make it much easier to manage our funds. If we continue with the partnership, then maybe we can gain even more profits, relieving us of our financial issues.
That’s how the major company spoke. It sounded as if they wanted to help us with our problems.
Natsume: That sounds highly suspicioUS… It might make sense if it was an eccentric individual, but there’s no way a respectable commercial business company would be so charitabLE.
Maybe that company is dealing with some shady things or maybe they’re just scammeRS.
The people who come to help weakened people or organisations aren't messiahs overflowing with good intentions, but swindlers or evil spiriTS.
Tsumugi: Right. I was also suspicious of them… Although it’s not to the same degree as my mother, I also tend to be easily deceived by those sorts of swindlers.
Natsume-kun is clever while Sora-kun has the ability to see the truth no matter what the circumstances are, so I’d like you two to find what’s going on behind this “very convenient offer”.
Sora: So that’s why you called us here? But Sora isn’t very good at handling situations where money is involved~
Tsumugi: Sora-kun, you’re very good at making money in games, aren’t you? I noticed you were earning as much as the national budget in that game where you travel the world on a railroad.
Natsume: Ohh, that’s the game we played during the New Year parTY.
Senpai fell for Sora’s fake tears and said something like “I feel bad for Sora-kun, so I shall become the god of poverty!” before falling to ruIN.
Tsumugi: I–It wasn’t my fault I was tricked! I didn’t think he would go that far for a game! I thought Sora-kun was actually sad…!
Sora: HiHi~♪ It’s your fault for getting tricked! Games aren’t just something you play for fun, you know?
Tsumugi: Aren’t games supposed to be played for fun…?
Natsume: It all depends on how you see iT. In any case, I can’t say anything until I hear the full details of this partnershIP.
Make sure you explain everything from beginning to eND. Knowing you, I bet you’ve already made the unnecessary documents or something, rigHT?
Tsumugi: Ah, yes. I’ll send them to you on “Hallhands”. And sent ♪
Natsume: You’ve gotten used to the app ES forced us to uSE.
Tsumugi: It is convenient. It has all the features an ES idol would need and it’s also free – which is the best thing.
They do say nothing is better than something that’s free, but we need to cut down on as many things as we can right now.
Natsume: I suppoSE. Ugh, idols should be talking about hopes and dreams, but we’ve just been talking about money this whole tiME.
Sora: HuHu~ Master~ don’t you like those sorts of topics?
Natsume: My master says this occasionally, but despite gods being dead and magicians and witches having perished, the concept of money is a type of magic that has still continued to exist to this dAY.
Since we call ourselves modern-day magicians, that’s something we can’t ignoRE.
Tsumugi: I don’t particularly care about that, but have you two downloaded the documents~?
Natsume: Don’t rush mE – I’m reading it right nOW.
Sora: HeHe~ The “colour” of digital info doesn’t change that much, so it’s easy to understand~♪
Natsume: HmM… The major company that offered us the partnership is called “Gorgon CorporatiON”...
Tsumugi: I had difficulty reading it, but is it pronounced “goal-gone”? It sounds like the name of a hitman or some kind of pasta.
Sora: Gorgon[1] is the name of a person that appears in Greek mythology, right?
Natsume: They’re treated more like a monster rather than a persON. Like a witch of sorTS?
Tsumugi: Oh, I’ve heard of that before! Medusa, right? The one that turns you into stone if you look at her!
Sora: Yes ♪ She pops up a lot in video games~
Tsumugi: I see that name in novels too. Her hair is made up of snakes – it sounds rather terrifying.
Natsume: It’s your evolved version, Moppy Four-EyES.
Tsumugi: Hm? I had them confused for the same thing, but aren’t they the same person? Do different countries have different names for them or something?
Natsume: Simply put, I think “Gorgon” is the name of her species while “Medusa” is her own naME.
Sora: It’s like how you’re “human” while your name is “Tsumugi Aoba”, Senpai~♪
Tsumugi: That’s easy to understand! I see~ I thought Medusa was a human with snakes for hair, but she was actually not human, huh.
Natsume: That part is pretty ambiguous, thouGH. It’s a myth from ancient timES. She’s treated like someone who wasn’t human, like the AmazoNS[2].
Sora: That was back when laws and ethics weren’t a concept~

Hi! This is so bizarre, and feel free to ignore, but I'm planning a trip to Japan in November. If you feel comfortable, would you share some of your favorite places. And also where you saw the shows? It looked like such a good trip from what you've shared.
hey not bizarre at all, i love talking about it!!!! disclaimer that i don't know shit
so we chose to do something slightly unusual and skip kyoto, which is like. the big one other than tokyo. we did it because 1) we wanted to spend half the time in a less touristy place and 2) we think we will come back. so keep in mind that my experience missed a really big "essential" stop according to some. so we did 1) an urban leg in tokyo 2) an outdoorsy/quiet leg in nagano prefecture and 3) one night at a ryokan in hakone
in tokyo, staying in shinjuku was great for nightlife/people watching during said nightlife. it was also very central both for getting trains out of town and for easy access to harajuku and shibuya, which were my favorite neighborhoods. ginza was also a good contrast as like a very high-class commercial center. go to Bar Owls for a secluded li'l classy basement bar. our two super splurge restaurants in tokyo: X X
also a kind of overlooked neighborhood is yanaka, which is quieter with more historic buildings + a huge cemetery. yanaka ginza is a cute cheap shopping street themed around black cats
the show in this first photo is the samurai restaurant in shinjuku, which is VERY touristy but so much fun. the dancing and costuming and atmosphere were all super good
we also did a tea ceremony with MAIKOYA (where you are invited in to participate and given context for everything that is happening) and saw a sumo tournament with an english-speaking guide
in nagoya prefecture we based ourselves in hakuba for the hiking--it's an off-season ski resort and quite charming. i do think if i did the area again i'd stay in matsumoto nearby, which besides its castle has more public transport and central routes to a national park, the snow monkeys outside of nagano city, etc (we did not get to see the snow monkeys but they might be more present in november, idk). we saw several shrines and buddhist temples, and rode the ski lifts up happo-one to hike (bottom left)
LOVED going to a ryokan. hakone is a hot spring resort town and we could have spent more than a night there!! we stayed at kowakien mikawaya. they fed us SO well and we got a room with a private onsen (top two + the food middle right). very good, very relaxing concept for a vacation
my other bit of general advice is to double-check whether the things you really want to do need reservations, and do it EARLY. there's a great direct tourist train from shinjuku to mt. fuji, but tickets were sold out by the time we got there (it's better to get a service to buy them for you ahead of time is my understanding) and the same was true for the ghibli museum. but we had a lot of fun just meandering in neighborhoods between our booked activities so i don't feel like we were missing much

2024-09-15: Episode 15 (Stadium Tour)
Original airdate October 7, 1992
Episode Synopsis
After some brave whistleblowers and activists stood up to Boris Ozonevich and SynCorp, Ozonevich and SynCorp lost out on a lucrative business contract. In retaliation, Boris Ozonevich and his minions modified the Fresno football stadium (Go Falcons!) overnight to turn it into a mobile fortress. The stadium has been outfitted with a bunch of telescoping legs, each about 3 stories high when fully extended, so that it can rampage through the city and destroy buildings while blasting 2 Unlimited's "Get Ready For This" over the stadium speakers until his demands for a renegotiated contract have been met. The gang must spring into action to sabotage the stadium and bring Boris to justice, but the stadium is full of Boris's minions (many of whom are dressed in absurd sports mascot uniforms to add an air of unpredictability to the fight, so they have silly but effective mascot skills like dodging and sliding).
Episode Sponsor: 1-800-HINT-GUY
When you're stuck on a level in the newest video game, call 1-800-HINT-GUY to get help! Unfortunately for parents everywhere, this was not a free service. It relied on children calling the number and parents finding out about the call on the next phone bill. Calls were billed at 50 cents a minute, and an avid game renter might rack up quite a hefty phone bill for their parents if they asked for help too often. Because of this predatory marketing, commercials for the service were pulled after a little more than two years after pressure from parent lobbying groups.
Notable Episode Feature: Sushi Center (Location)
On the highest level of the stadium is the press box, and that's where Boris is commanding the stadium from. It's an enclosed area that is located next to (and only accessible through) a small food court that produces catered sushi. It's called Sushi Center, and the sushi chef (Yamamoto-san) is the miniboss of the area; he knows karate, has a sword he uses to cut up the sushi, and also controls pufferfish poison. However, Sushi Center also has several tactical features that the gang might find useful: woks that can be used as shields, gas ovens that can spray fire, and a freezer filled with huge blocks of ice that can be broken to create temporary difficult terrain or used as slippery sleds to make combat more dynamic.

Bible Conference in 1968 was strange:
The annual Spring Bible Conference is one of the outstanding features of the year at Bob Jones University. Running for eight days, the conference brings to the campus outstanding, orthodox Bible teachers, pastors and evangelists. All regular academic work is suspended for the conference which takes the place of a spring vacation.
This year's conference was considered one of the school's best. More off-campus guests were present than for any other event in the school's history.
Services were held in the 3,000-seat Rodeheaver Auditorium, and overflow crowds watched the services via closed-circuit television in the 1,000-seat Concert Center. For most of the sessions it was necessary to use a third auditorium the War Memorial Chapel, which has a seating capacity of about 700+.
Tumblr media
Guest speakers at the conference included Dr. Robert T. Ketcham, national consultant (retired), General Association of Regular Baptist Churches, Chicago, Ill.; Dr. Ian R. K. Paisley, pastor of Raven hill Free Presbyterian Church, Belfast, Ireland, moderator of Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster, editor of "The Revivalist," "Protestant Telegraph." Also, Dr. Charles S. Poling, pastor of the Church of All Christian Faiths, Phoenix, Ariz.; Dr. Glen Schunk of Greenville, evangelist; and Dr. H. C. Slade, pastor of Jarvis Street Baptist Church, Toronto, Canada.

The next Bible Conference will be March 30-April 7, 1968. Among the speakers scheduled are Dr. G. Archer Weniger, pastor of the Foothill Boulevard Baptist Church of Oakland, Calif; Dr. Noel Smith, editor of the Baptist Bible Tribune," Springfield, Mo.; Dr. Bob Wells, pastor of the Central Baptist Church of Anaheim, Calif.; Rev. John Balyo, pastor of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and John Stormer, author of' "None Dare Call It Treason."
John Stormer was an anti-communist speaker.
And then a WBJU story:
WBJU, the student-manned carrier-current radio station, is now in its second year of operation. Located in the radio television wing of the Fine Arts Building, the fully equipped radio station is designed to be heard in the eight student dormitories.
Though staffed entirely by radio students, the station's operations are supervised by Robert Pratt, chairman of the division of speech and head of the department of radio and television, and other members of the radio-television faculty.
According to Mr. Pratt, the carrier-current station serves as a "laboratory training unit for students who have dedicated themselves to using broadcasting as a Christian ministry." He said that the station also endeavors to supplement the listening interests of the student body.
The university grants the bachelor of arts degree in radio and television and the bachelor of science degree in broadcast engineering. WBJU is in addition to the commercial stations operated by Bob Jones University -- WMUU and  WMUU-FM in Greenville and WAVO and WAVO-FM in the Atlanta, Ga., area.

Can Ductless HVAC Systems Be Used in Commercial Space?
Tumblr media
Heating and cooling can be troublesome for small business owners. Retail and restaurant space is often leased or rented and sometimes exists within a much larger building. As a tenant, you may not want to take on the cost and responsibility of expanding air ducts or putting in a central system. It may not even be an option. Other, more portable solutions like room units can offer convenience, but you give up a lot in efficiency, comfort, and your company’s brand image.
Many small-to-medium-size business owners turn to the mini-split, or ductless heat pump, for the dependability and comfort that fits their brand. The ductless mini-split system combines the best of central heating and room units to deliver zoned, efficient, year-round heating and cooling. Its design has many advantages for small businesses and other commercial spaces. Here are the top 5 reasons Massachusetts businesses turn to mini-split heat pumps for professional climate control.
1. Efficiency
A ductless mini-split has none of this ductwork inside the walls. There’s little or no energy lost between the exterior compressor and the interior air handler, regardless of how far away the two components are from each other. Plus, you can easily expand your system to cool and heat other spaces by adding air handlers to the compressor.
With a ductless system, you only pay for the heat or cooling you actually use. Air handling units in each room allow you to select where and when you want to control the indoor climate. When the system is off, it’s completely off, which isn’t always the case with older central systems. This is a major advantage for a space that might be unoccupied more than 12 hours per day.
2. Customized Comfort
A mini-split enables you to treat each office, workspace, and conference room as a separate zone rather than having to choose a single temperature for the whole floor or even the entire building.
With wireless remote convenience, anyone can set individual room temperatures to a comfortable level. It’s perfect for large conference rooms that aren’t used every day, office space that gets a lot of sun, home office and other workspace underground, and anywhere else you need employees and customers to do business in comfort. This can be a lifesaver as the seasons change — just ask the folks toiling in the back room that overheats in the summer and is drafty in October.
3. Flexibility and Scalability
Unlike the costly demo and remodel required for ductwork, there’s no need to tear big holes in the walls to install the wires and tubes that connect the indoor and outdoor components of a ductless system. That’s a good thing in a situation where you don’t own the walls you’d be tearing up. It’s also handy in cases where it’s structurally impossible to install ductwork.
All you need to install a ductless system is a discrete 3” hole in the wall. There are many ways to run the connection depending on your structure and your design preferences. Because it’s simple to install, a mini-split is a good choice when you may need to expand. It’s less expensive and simpler to mount units and drill more holes than to install more ductwork, as you’d have to do with a central heating and cooling system.
4. A Year-Round Solution
A ductless mini-split system tends to outperform other options in both, heating and cooling, excelling at both rather than compromising between the two. Its room-by-room zoning enables you to maintain a consistent, comfortable temperature throughout your workspace, especially in the spring and fall when temperatures can vary tremendously from one room to the next.
5. Clean and Quiet
Ductless systems are cleaner because they have fewer parts that are directly in contact with the air you breathe. Unlike a ducted system that requires specialized duct servicing to stay clean, a ductless heat pump can be minimally serviced by any user with a step ladder. Between scheduled maintenance visits, users can remove the air filters located in the air handling unit and clean them with tap water. This ensures the highest quality of air.
