Before the Nuptials - Nips and Tucks
When R. L.'s wedding day rolled around last May 7th, her nose, which she had hated for so long, had been at last fully repaired so she could stare into the many cameras present on the big day with confidence, if not a huge measure of sass. "With my old nose, I knew I would hate every wedding picture taken that day," R.L. told CosmeticSurgery.com. (She asked her full name be withheld.) R.L., now 30, suffered a botched rhinoplasty (nose job) when she was 16, followed by another surgery years later to try and repair the damage. But it did not work. She did some research and started looking for a surgeon who specializes in cosmetic surgery revisions. "My nose was an absolute atrocity," says R.L., who works in marketing in New York City and just married a graphic artist. She shopped physicians for the pre-wedding revision surgery by reading doctors' websites for information about their training and background and then ventured out for face-to-face interviews of three. One in particular impressed her with price, training, patient testimonials and a warm beside manner. "I knew I had to get it right this time," R.L. says. "When I went in for surgery, my nose was twisted, and the left side was collapsed so badly, I could not breathe through it. In the past, when a picture was taken, I made sure the photographer was far off or that only my good side was pictured. Once my nose was finally straightened, I couldn't believe I had been walking around so long, looking that badly." R.L. is not the only bride looking for a surgeon to perform a nip, a tuck or more before taking that walk down the aisle. Cosmetic surgeons and others report seeing many more wedding party members seeking procedures before the nuptials. "Cosmetic surgery procedures for brides-to-be, mothers of the brides and others in the wedding are up 300% over this time last year," says Cho Phillips, executive director of Lovegevity.com, a Northern California website devoted to engagement, marriage and other family issues. "First-time brides tend to have liposuction and breast augmentation in preparation for their big day." Yet another wedding consultant says pre-nuptial cosmetic surgery is so common, most couples should think about carving out a budget for facial makeovers. Arlene Howard, 64, a Beverly Hills public relations practitioner, had the striking good looks of a model in her early 20s. Now, she has an October 10th wedding date at the Bel Air Hotel in Beverly Hills. So for a segment of tv's "Dr. 90210," Arlene underwent a facial peel that took 25 years off the calendar – after a two-month recovery time -- and made her, in the words of her husband-to-be, "a trophy bride." "I wanted my outward appearance to catch up with my self-image," Arlene says. "It will now be the wedding I've always wanted." Compliments have been so encouraging, Arlene says she will also have a tummy tuck before the wedding. Says Robert Freund, M.D., a Manhattan plastic surgeon, "As the field of cosmetic and plastic surgery receives more attention in the media, cosmetic surgical procedures become more widely accepted. Plus, the medical technology is getting better and that allows plastic surgeons to offer more sophisticated rejuvenations, with quicker healing time and less post-operative bruising." It was another uncomely schnoze that drove Tara, J. a 29-year-old magazine writer in New York State, to see about repairing the damage caused by a surfboard that broke her nose years ago. Her rhinoplasty was done in February to prepare for an October (2003) wedding. "I think everybody noticed my new nose at the wedding," she says. "Because all eyes will be on the bride at the wedding, the perfect time to start a new skincare routine is at the engagement," says Keith LaFerriere, M.D., president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) which reports the two most popular procedures for brides-to-be and their mothers are Botox and chemical peels. "If a bride goes in for Botox or chemical peels, she should have it done weeks in advance because swelling and redness can occur," says Dr. LaFerriere who is also a clinical associate professor at the University of Missouri, Columbia. According to Leo McCafferty, M.D. a Pittsburgh plastic surgeon and immediate past chair of the public education committee of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, (ASAPS) the mother of the bride is more likely to get a pre-wedding nip or tuck. "Most often, the mothers of brides and grooms are seeking facelifts or eyelifts, sometimes, up to a year before the wedding," Dr. McCafferty says. That was what drove Mary Anne R. of Brooklyn, New York, to see a plastic surgeon before her daughter's wedding in May 2004. Except, in her case, Mary Anne wanted less to be more attractive. "I've always been very large chested and learned I was a candidate for breast reduction after reading about typical symptoms such women have," says Mary Anne. "For instance, I was having pain in my shoulders and down into my arms from my bras which, in some respects, were almost like wearing harnesses. I really wanted to go to the wedding in a strapless dress, but that was impossible before the surgery. I would have popped right out!" Mary Anne underwent a breast reduction in November 2003, and says she had completely healed and "looked great" by the wedding date in March, 2004. "At the ceremony, I received many compliments in my strapless dress and everybody told me how wonderful I looked," she says. "Plus, my husband is my biggest fan of my new look." Jennie H., of Union Town, Pennsylvania, actually didn't think too much about cosmetic surgery until a close friend at her health club pointed out how tired she looked. "I took a look in the mirror, and said, 'My god! She's right! I don't look good." Although it was only six weeks before the wedding, Winnie had upper and lower blepharoplasty (eye lids and eye bags) performed on May 7th, 2004, and was healed in time for her daughter's July 26th wedding. "At the wedding, virtually everybody noticed and complimented me on how young I looked," Jennie says. Michael C. Bruck, M.D., director of plastic surgery at New York's Juva Skin & Laser Center in New York City finds the most common pre-wedding cosmetic surgery mistake is waiting too long to see the surgeon about major procedures on the face, eyes and abdomen. "The other busy time for special occasion requests is before high school and college reunions," Dr. Bruck says. "For some reason, those people come in much farther in advance of the event. Maybe they want to look extra good for old flames." About one quarter of patients, who visit doctors for pre-wedding consultations – but did not go ahead with the procedure – come back after the wedding for the operation, he says. "Once a patient starts thinking about a particular cosmetic procedure, it seems to stick in her mind," says Dr. Bruck who reports using a lot of Restylane, a filler that gets rid of blemishes, acne scars and some minor lines and wrinkles. However, all is not lost if you do find yourself short on time. For instance, David J. Goldberg, M.D., dermatologist and director of The Skin Laser & Surgery Specialists of New York & New Jersey, says some wedding ceremony patients come to him a scant week before the ceremony. "For younger brides, physicians can offer smoother skin through laser dermatology and some filler agents to fill out lips," Dr. Goldberg says. "Hylaform is good because it produces quick results and is a natural substance, so no skin or allergy tests are required. Those tests take time." Blushing brides find microdermabrasion helps makeup go on smoother. There is usually no bruising because the needles used to inject some fillers are as thin as one human hair. A current trend is giving cosmetic surgery as a gift. So, six months before opening her other gifts, Sheryl H., a 30-year-old medical transcriptionist in Springfield, Missouri, opened an envelope containing a gift for six dermabrasion treatments. "I had little dark areas of complexion on my face but dermabrasion made my skin lighter, smoother and fresher," she says. "The treatments make your face feel wind burned but your skin glows more afterwards." Mothers of brides in a hurry often ask for fast relief of crow's feet, wrinkles and worry lines. Dr. Goldberg says Hylaform usually fills that bill, too. But whatever procedure is used, girls – and their moms – just wanna look good.

8 Causes Of Puffy Eyes — How To Get Rid Of Puffy Eyes

The eyes are weak to many small adjustments in weight-reduction plan, says Swann. Alcohol, for instance, may trigger your physique to get dehydrated and make your eyes dry, too. Debunking Common Myths About Dermatology in Springfield, MO
Tumblr media
Welcome to our blog post on dermatology in Springfield, MO! Whether you're a skincare enthusiast or someone who simply wants to take better care of their skin, it's important to separate fact from fiction when it comes to dermatology. In this article, we'll be debunking some common myths surrounding the field and shedding light on the truth. So sit back, relax, and let's dive into the fascinating world of skin health!
Myth #1: Dermatologists are only concerned with skin cancer
When it comes to dermatology, many people believe that dermatologists are solely focused on skin cancer. While it's true that diagnosing and treating skin cancer is a crucial part of their practice, the scope of a dermatologist's expertise goes far beyond just this one condition. Dermatologists are highly trained medical professionals who specialize in all aspects of skin health. They can address a wide range of concerns, from acne and eczema to hair loss and nail disorders. In fact, they play a vital role in helping patients achieve healthy, radiant skin at every stage of life. From performing cosmetic procedures like botox injections and chemical peels to providing guidance on skincare routines tailored to individual needs, dermatologists have extensive knowledge about the various conditions and treatments available. They stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field to offer their patients cutting-edge solutions for both medical and aesthetic concerns. So remember, while skin cancer is indeed an important area of focus for dermatologists, they are equipped to handle so much more than that. Whether you're struggling with a specific issue or simply want professional advice on maintaining your skin's health, consulting with a skilled dermatologist can be incredibly beneficial for your overall well-being.
Myth #2: Only people with fair skin can get skin cancer
Skin cancer is often associated with fair-skinned individuals who are more prone to sunburns. However, this myth couldn't be further from the truth. While it's true that people with fair skin have less melanin, which provides some natural protection against harmful UV rays, they are not the only ones at risk for developing skin cancer. People of all ethnicities and skin tones can develop skin cancer, including those with darker complexions. In fact, research has shown that certain types of melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer, may be more aggressive in individuals with darker skin tones. The misconception stems from the fact that people with fairer complexions tend to burn more easily and show visible signs of sun damage sooner. However, anyone exposed to excessive UV radiation without adequate protection is at risk for developing skin cancer. Therefore, it's important for everyone to take precautions and protect their skin regardless of their complexion or how easily they tan or burn in the sun. Regularly wearing sunscreen, seeking shade during peak hours of sunlight exposure, and scheduling regular check-ups with a dermatologist are crucial steps in preventing and detecting any potential signs of skin cancer. Remember: your ethnicity does not determine your risk for developing this disease; rather it is your level of sun exposure over time that matters most.
Myth #3: You don't need to see a dermatologist unless you have a problem with your skin
When it comes to taking care of our health, many of us tend to focus on the parts of our body that are causing us immediate concern. And when it comes to skincare, we often think that a dermatologist is only necessary if we have a specific problem with our skin. But this is just one of the many myths surrounding dermatology in Springfield, MO. The truth is that seeing a dermatologist should be part of everyone's regular healthcare routine, regardless of whether or not you currently have any skin issues. Dermatologists are experts in all things related to your skin and can help you maintain its health and appearance. Regular check-ups with a dermatologist can help catch potential problems before they become serious issues. They can perform screenings for skin cancer and other conditions, provide advice on how to protect your skin from damage caused by the sun or environmental factors, and offer guidance on maintaining healthy skincare habits. Furthermore, dermatologists can address concerns such as acne breakouts, eczema flare-ups, psoriasis management, hair loss treatment options and much more. They have extensive knowledge about various treatments available – both traditional and innovative – that can effectively address these common concerns. So don't wait until you have a problem with your skin to see a dermatologist in Springfield, MO. Taking proactive steps towards preventive care through regular visits will not only keep your skin looking its best but also ensure its long-term health.
Myth #4: All dermatologists use the same treatments
When it comes to dermatology, there is a common misconception that all dermatologists follow the same treatment protocols. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. Dermatologists are highly trained medical professionals who specialize in diagnosing and treating various skin conditions. Just like any other medical field, dermatology encompasses a wide range of treatments and procedures tailored to each patient's specific needs. From acne and eczema to psoriasis and skin cancer, dermatologists have a vast arsenal of treatment options at their disposal. The choice of treatment depends on several factors such as the severity of the condition, the patient's medical history, lifestyle factors, and personal preferences. While some cases may require topical creams or oral medications, others may necessitate more invasive procedures like laser therapy or surgical interventions. Dermatologists stay updated with advancements in research and technology so that they can offer their patients cutting-edge treatments for optimal results. Each dermatologist may have their own preferred methods based on their experience and expertise. It's important to remember that not all skin conditions can be treated using a one-size-fits-all approach. What works for one person may not work for another due to individual differences in physiology and response to treatment. Choosing a skilled and experienced dermatologist is crucial since they will assess your unique situation before recommending an appropriate course of action tailored specifically for you. So if you think your friend’s recommended treatment plan might also work wonders for you without seeking professional advice first – think again! In conclusion (as per instructions), it is essential to debunk this myth about all dermatologists using identical treatments because each patient deserves personalized care based on their specific needs. By consulting with a reputable dermatologist in Springfield, MO, you can rest assured knowing that your skincare concerns will be addressed through evidence-based practices customized just for you!
How to choose a dermatologist in Springfield, MO
When it comes to choosing a dermatologist in Springfield, MO, there are a few key factors to consider. More About the Community of Belton, MO
Origins & Name
George W. Scott and William H. Colbern purchased about 80 acres of land on August 13, 1869, from Manzey Q. Ashby of Kentucky, who had received it a month earlier from the U.S. government. Scott and Colbern filed a plat for the 80 acres in December of 1871 and called the new town "Belton." Belton was incorporated in 1872. It was named for one of Scott's close friends, Captain Marcus Lindsey Belt, who helped Scott survey the land. The two had served in the Civil War together. Belton and its environs were settled largely by families from Kentucky.
The Shawnee
The Shawnee lived and owned land four miles west of Belton, just across the Missouri-Kansas border, on what was known as the Black Bob Reservation. Located in the southern part of Johnson County, Kansas, it was deeded to the Shawnees in the Treaty of May 10, 1844. Because of harassment from both sides at the beginning of the Civil War, the Shawnees abandoned their lands and settled in Indian Territory, now Oklahoma. At the end of the war, they found their lands in Kansas had been occupied by white settlers, and most Shawnee had to return to Indian Territory empty-handed.
First Trading Center
High Blue, two miles west of Belton on 58 Highway, was the community's first trading center. It was about 1,200 feet above sea level, making it the highest point between Springfield and Liberty Memorial Hill in Kansas City. Belton is located on a ridge reaching to Lee's Summit. All water north of Main Street flows into the Little Blue River east of Kansas City. All water flowing south of Main Street goes to the Grand River and then the Osage River, finally emptying into the Missouri River 10 miles east of Jefferson City.
Order Number 11
Following the sacking of Lawrence, Kansas in 1863 by Quantrill's Raiders during the Civil War, the union commander in Kansas City, Brigadier General Thomas Ewing, issued the infamous Order Number 11. It decreed the depopulation within 15 days of an area 30 miles wide and 100 miles long south of the Missouri River on the western border of Missouri. The order affected 20,000 persons, who had to salvage what they could of clothing, personal belongings, and livestock to make a hasty move. Plundering and devastation followed. Union soldiers confiscated horses and wagons. Looting was rampant and torches were set to fields and homes. The area came to be known as the Burnt District and for 18 months was largely uninhabited.

Which car would be better for insurance costs?
I'm female, 25 years old, and looking to finance my first car. (And if it matters, I'm in Ontario, Canada.) I know I can call and get a quote - but wanted to open it up to the Y!A community first :) Also, I have a clean driving record, my full G license, and I took driver's ed. What are insurance rates like for each of these cars? (And if you have experience, which car would you recommend based on performance, gas, etc?) **All of the cars I'm looking at are either 06, 07, or 08 - Volkswagen Jetta - Ford Focus - Chevy Aveo - Hyundai Accent .... so basically, a smaller car. (I really like the 2007 VW Jetta)""
My Insurance auto accident settlement?
I was recently in a car accident where a Nissan truck ran into the back of another car that then ran into the back of me causing $2000 worth of damage to the rear of my infiniti. I received moderate whiplash to my neck and had to be taken to the hospital. I checked out without any broken bones and was prescribed medication. I went to see a chiropractor and he has been working on my neck for a couple days which makes it feel a better. Im 100% not at fault and the insurance company has taken care of my car repair, rental, and medical bills. They ask me How much do I think I want for this accident for pain and suffering. I believe I am entitled to at least $3500-5000 for my suffering I live in NC. I believe $5000 is a reasonable consider the circumstances. I could have lost my life, broke my neck and been paralyzed for life. Thank the lord that I received only a whiplash. The stress that I am undergoing, the constant pain in my neck is a reminder of the accident, which I feel fearful of driving. The time I spent recovering could have been spent enjoying my life. Besides getting behind in my school work, I am absent from my student organization at school which I am a key figure ( president AGC). I don't enjoy waking up with cramps and headaches nor do I like to take prescription pills, and therapy. I don't want to be compensation a insufficient amount that wont even cover pain and suffering I went though. It seems like you people are on the side of the insurance company and not the victims in this situation. I wonder if any of you have ever been in an automobile accident and if you have must share some sort of empathy of what I am reiterating.""
My car insurance company is screwing me over?
I was just recently in a car accident. my front end recieved some harsh damage. The hood was folded towards the windshield, transmitiion was busted, the front lights were busted and the front frame was pushed back to where i could not get my front doors open. My insurance company is saying that it is a complete loss. However the garage where i took it to said that it was fixable. My car is a 2001 neon. They want to take the car and probably give me 2000 dollars for it, and they wll fix it and sell it for more. My question is should i just hand it over to my insurance company and take the 2000 dollars? or does anyone have any suggestions?""

Is fully comprehensive insurance worth paying on a 1000 car?
I'm a 39 year old driver who's had a full licence since the age of 17, I have full no claims and although I've been involved in 2 accidents neither of them were my fault (fingers crossed I'm not to speak too soon). I'm only buying a car worth 1000 and the difference in cost between fully comp and 3rd party, fire & theft makes it worth thinking about going for the latter as the fully comp is 609 with 250 excess and TPFT 480 with 250 excess. Does anyone know, if I was involved in an accident cause by a 3rd party driver can I claim from their insurance? I remember on my 2nd accident (about 14 years ago before the recent technology) although I got all the details of the registration and the driver he gave me incorrect details and the DVLA never actually found him as the car had been in between owners. However I was put in contact with a type of agency who assist in these cases and I got reimbursed for my car and neither did it affect my insurance. How am I covered 3rd party if I have an accident that's the fault of the 3rd party? Logically I'm thinking that I can claim for my car from their insurance? Any advice appreciated, would you go fully comp or TPFT?""

I got a ticket which doesn't put points on my license. Could it affect my insurance rates?
I was a passenger in my friend's car when he was ticketed for having an open container of alcohol in the backseat. This occurred in Illinois, and the text of the relevant law is at the bottom. He was ticketed for violating section A; I was ticketed for section B. I confirmed with the very nice lady at the DMV that no points will be placed on my license since I was the passenger, but she was unsure as to what kind of report will be sent to the Secretary of State's office to be added to my driving record. So, here's my question: since I'm not getting any points for this, is it likely to affect my insurance rates? I can see both possibilities - on the non-affect side, it's a non-moving violation, but on the yes-affect side, it involves alcohol (albeit peripherally in my specific situation). If the consensus is that it will make my rates go up, I am going to try to get court supervision. If not, I'll try to save the extra money that would cost. Sec. 11-502. RAC CAR INSURANCE HELP!?
I purchased car insurance from RAC last year, they then annulled it as said I could not use my no claims bonus on two cars and sent me a new quote. I rang them up and they then said I haven't sent the no claims bonus documents in so I faxed them through once again, I advised I received this letter but they said just send in the documents which I did. I also never received any documents for my cover so had to request these myself which were sent by email for 25.00 :S. After hearing nothing back I rang rac for an update who said my new insurance quote was double the original quote!! I haven't signed any paperwork or received any paperwork advising they automatically gave me new insurance. I asked them to cancel but they said I have to pay 1000 as well as them keeping my deposit and paying for the first months insurance..1000?? I told them no. Paid what i owed for the first month. Now they are sending me letter telling me to pay..do I really have to do this?? I haven't signed anything even for the original insurance as they never sent the paperwork out, and as the insurance was annulled can they really automatically start a new insurance without my permission?? What changes does one need to consider after a child finishes college and gets employed (in a different state)? eg. I removed him from auto insurance since he has his own policy; do I need to do anything to ensure he can drive one of our cars when he visits us? My medical insurance at work covers children till 26, but they indicated for him the policy will be secondary to his insurance through his employer. How does this work given his insurance has more out-of-pocket expenses - copay/coins/deductible, etc?""

Is AmeriPlan a Good insurance company?
it's a health insurance company, and for four people, you only have to pay 60 dollars a month. I was just wondering if it is a rip of, only asking people who have used it or are using it now. Is car insurance in any way fair?
I know there is not much that I can do about it on my own but I am thoroughly annoyed by paying for car insurance. You pay for it in the hopes that you don't get into an accident and it increases. Once you've gotten into an accident, depending on the company, they try to figure out a way not to pay for it. If your car is totally destroyed, you're stuck with the blue book value and the remainder of your car note in some cases (if your insurance is really bad). While all of this is going on, the car is depreciating at an almost exponential rate and the top it all off, it is a requirement by our government to pay for it. Now I do undestand its place but there needs to be some type of adjustment in the way that this system works. I mean, while they're collecting money on your insurance, they are reinvesting it and making money off of your money that you will never get back and ultimately never use....I'm annoyed. I feel like I am just throwing money away. What do you think?""

""When starting new car insurance, can insurers decline no claims bonus due to 2 motorway speeding convictions?""
Hello, I am trying to arrange vehicle insurance. I have contacted A&L with regards to their car insurance. Basically I have just changed jobs, where I had company cars for the last 6 years with no claims. I asked A&L if they would accept this as no claims, and they said they would if I could provide a letter from my previous employers stating dates, that I was sole user, that I no longer have policy and that it expires within last 3 months etc. I have provided them with the letter which covers all areas requested. They have now replied back to me saying that they can't accept the no claims, as I have 2 SP30 (Motorway speeding) convictions within the last 5 years, which means they will not accept the no claims. Is this acceptable? I though no claims were only relinquished if a claim in made against a policy, not because I have a couple of run-of-the-mill speeding convictions. Thanks in advance, James""

What kind of car details will lower the cost of insurance?
I have to buy a car and the insurance will be costing more than the actual car. Some factors I can't change like the fact it will be my first year with a full GB licence, my gender, age, where I park it, etc. But when considering the car I will buy, what factors might lower my insurance costs? Keeping in mind my price range for the car is 450-900 pounds, - what makes/models are hardest/easiest to break into? - what security devices would make a difference to the cost of my insurance, and how much would they cost? - what year of car is considered to be built more securely than in the past? How much info does a car insurance company really need to file a successful claim against me?
I bumped into this lady because she actually did a full stop on a green light while getting out of a shopping center. She said it was o.k and that nothing happened and was apologetic saying that a car ran in front of her and that is why she did a dead stop in middle of intersection on a green light. She got my license number but did not call police, did not take pictures and did not get my insurance policy number. Just my name, insurance company I'm with and also drivers license number. She said it was o.k and my info just in case. Thing is when I got back from vacation I got a letter from my insurance saying she put in a claim against when nothing even happened to both of our cars. My question is what can I do? I don't want to pay deductible when it was HER fault. Nothing even really happened. She's pulling insurance fraud......and it really makes me mad that she put in a claim. I did not give her my insurance policy number guess she must of called around the biggest names and got my info somehow. It was her fault but since she did a dead stop in intersection on a green light..... i bumped into her.........but since i bumped into her is this automatically my fault? SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – One in five Americans will develop skin cancer during their lifetime.
Overexposure to Ultra Violet rays raises your cancer risk if you don’t protect your skin from the sun, and many of us forget to apply sunblock throughout the summer months.
Being exposed to UV rays from the sun can be extremely dangerous to your skin, raising your risk for melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.
“I don’t really leave the house in the morning without sun block on my face usually 100 SPF,” said Sarah Penza. “My little boy is out here playing and he has his hat and his water babies on.”
It is important to monitor your skin and not to ignore any signs of overexposure or sun damage.
You’re also more susceptible to getting melanoma if you’ve had five or more sunburns in your lifetime. Using sunblock on a daily basis while in the sun, can cut that risk by 50 percent.
Dermatologist, Dr. Ronald Nadel told 22News you can minimize your melanoma risk by staying out of the sun during peak hours, and to continuously reapply sunblock after you’ve been in the water.
Nadel said heredity can also play a role.
“People who are related to people with melanoma have a much higher risk,” said Nadel. “For example if you had a brother or a sister with melanoma, your chances of getting a melanoma would be more like one in 20.”
The American Academy of Dermatology warns that people with blue eyes, red hair and freckled skin are easy targets for developing this skin cancer without proper sun protection.
Nadel suggests you avoid being out in the sun during the peak hours, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but if you must be outdoors, to apply a strong SPF sunblock.
