It's so miserable making side characters for a story and getting attached because now not only are you obsessed with a guy that only exists in your head even if they existed out of your head they'd still be basically just in your head. Like no you guys have to trust me they're so deep and intricate no none of this stuff ever comes up you just have to believe me and like them as much as I do

For a while I've wanted to do a comic inspired by @/turtleboyofficial and @/ask-azelf-nuzlocke where Terapagos wakes up on its own, assumes human form, escapes from Area Zero, and basically takes the place of the protag, with... interesting results. (Specifically during the DLC.)

i loveeeee work during summerbreak there's like 3 of my coworkers here with me tops and they dgaf what I'm doing I've been sketching thumbnails for a drawing for the past hour

genuinely i'd say the best portrayal of my brain is the mind electric by miracle musical (reverse & glitches included). sometimes for the lyrics & meaning, but also because it's just what my brain sounds like. not necessarily in like ;; a mentally ill i'm in pain kind of way either

it'll go on very similar rants which may sound like the lyrics, both in word choices & intensity, even if it may not make sense at all if anyone were to hear it, but it does to me. i'll have a thought similar to the “all mine towers crumble down” verse to a situation that doesn't resemble it at all, when i'm in no distress, but it's not like i'm being hyperbolic either — it's like i'm having a different thought, but said in those words.

even in the way the song's warped is pretty similar — like the “so...so....so...—” fading in an out, as i know how i want to continue my thoughts & yet i can't make the voice in my head say it — they're stuttering, and i don't know why, and i can't make them continue. or the “elect— (silence) — trifying.” or slurring speech in a way similar to the “enasni/insane.” things that may be reasonable to expect from speech, but not from a thought.

the choirs in the background, the chaos, switching to different sounds and different voices with different roles in the song, other voices interacting with said thoughts (“—not you, huh?”; “condemn him to the infirmary”)

Like ;;; even if i didn't commit some crime and got electroshock for it, it still sounds very similar to my brain even when feeling neutral, which is like. YAY !! brain sounds. but also /neg genuinely because it can be soo hard to think for no reason cus of this sometimes i'm deadass fighting wars in my brain

i feel very similarly with moon waltz in e-major (cojum dip) & the soul eclectic (chonny jash)

i mean i don't necessarily know if it's normal to have thoughts that chaotic? like ;; it's a brain full of information, i can't see how it wouldn't be like that to someone regardless of emotional state, i can't see how it wouldn't be often incoherent and loud. but i mean ?? whatevs, i guess

Or: How to get your eyes to talk directly to your hands without your brain micromanaging you

Or: How to draw better

⚠️ Warning for super fast gifs cause they all gotta be 5 seconds or less or else my phone shits the bed ⚠️

1. Do the following exercises. Don't just think about doing them or figure out a clever way to not do them, just do them. Yes even the boring ones and the ones that look ugly

2. If you have any pride, crush it. Kill it. Crunch it up into itty bitty bits and feed it to the ducks at the park. You have no talent and don't know anything and everything you make is hot garbage. Believe that. Make yourself believe that. That is where you live now. Surrender any indignation or shame you have to the void and embrace rock bottom.

3. Read step 2 again and actually do it this time. My methods will not work if you try to make this process pretty. Don't.

4. No drawing from your imagination on these. Actually draw from real life. If it's boring like eating day old oatmeal in in beige room but your usual art still feels wonky then I'm talking to you specifically. You can't write poetry until you learn words and yes learning words is as dull as horseshit sometimes but do you wanna be Robert Frost or not

5. Pick up some cheap paper and a ballpoint pen. Grab a small object, between the size of your hand and the size of a microwave. Set a timer for fifteen minutes. Put the tip of your pen to the paper and press "start".

Now without looking at your paper, only looking at the object, draw the object in as much detail as you can. Do not break contact between the paper and the pen tip until the timer goes off.

This is a continuous line drawing, and you're doing it in pen because you need to know what rock bottom looks like and rock bottom looks like no eyes no erasers no shading no do-overs.

6. Sit down in a public place. As someone walks by, draw their their body in as much accuracy as you can before they are no longer in view. Once you can't see them anymore, the drawing is done. No adding details. Pick someone else and do it again. No "base sketch". Just them. If it barely looks human you're doing great

7. Get a black pen. Put a small object on a dark, flat surface. Now draw the surface without drawing the object. Don't draw the outline of the object. Don't do a sketch. Just draw the surface that is visible around the object until only a silhouette remains. No time limit just do it.

The ability to draw accurate proportions from sight comes from learning to see what exists between a thing and the absence of a thing and if that hurts to think about then you need to do it more

8. Keep doing these until you are Ready.

9. You will know when you are Ready. It will make sense when you are Ready. You will Understand.

10. Unwind with some goofy shit so you don't forget why you wanna improve to begin with

Wha--?! Silk finally finished her fem Zoro design after (checks notes) literally 6 months since she made the canvas in procreate?

I'll break down design thoughts and share some fun bonus pics under the cut:

I LOVE long hair on Zoro, I think that was the first change I wanted to implement. Zoro in canon actually has a really interesting relationship with gender dynamics which (if for some reason you're reading this and you haven't watched One Piece) can seem out of left field for the "dumb brute" character. His rivalry with and reverence for Kuina suggests he doesn't adhere to the idea that women are weaker than men. Later on, however, during his confrontation with Monet and Tashigi during Punk Hazard, his hesitation to slash her down reveals that he's subconsciously over-protective of women because he thinks they're inherently weaker. I actually don't have any problem with this character trait, I think it makes him feel more real as a person and he obviously gets shit-talked enough about it in the story itself. But how did I want to reflect these beliefs if Zoro had been born a woman? Easy: internalized misogyny and applying value to herself via her appearance.

My version of Zoro grew up wanting to fight with swords but her only chance of entering the dojo was to work under the proprietress, Lady Shimotsuki to maintain the property, cook meals for the male students, and eventually be a good wife to the current heir, Kuina. She learns that, to get what she wants, she must be the ideal woman, even if she stays up all night training swordsmanship with Kuina when she isn't supposed to. He treats her love for swordplay seriously and treats her like an equal, which sparks a bond between them and eventually leads to Zoro's goal of becoming the world's greatest swordsman after his sudden, accidental death.

After years of intense training (now that Lady Shimotsuki admits that she'll need a new heir and Zoro is the closest thing she has) Zoro's finally old enough to leave and begin her journey. She starts letting go of the idea that she has to look pulled together to be taken seriously because she can just kill anyone who looks down on her. Her clothing falls into disrepair, she wears outfits that help her move in combat, and she starts tossing her hair up into messy, knotted buns under her bandana. Even so, she keeps her hair long like rolling hills of grass. (At least during pre-timeskip. She lops off her hair to prove to Mihawk that she's serious about being trained.)

I've put her in a thin sweater that she stitches (poorly) back together after her first interaction with Mihawk. (I kept one sleeve because I was inspired by the santoryuu Nami that Oda drew that one time.) I also wanted to girl-ify the ubiquitous haramaki so I picked leg warmers for her because I think they're sufficiently "dated" enough to be kinda analogous with his old man belly warmer. I also love gyaru fashion, sue me.
