Why are Live Action Remakes always inherently dodgy?

A inherent problem to these adaptations is how they’d never be greenlit if a director or creator came up to a studio and pitched a reboot/remake themselves. It always starts with the studio heads wanting to make more bank. They are the ones who renew the IP and have the money to buy the brand rights.

Thus they adopt the age old cliche: “Don’t come to us, we’ll come to you.” Thus franchise films and reboots are a roll of the die.

Will the director be complimentary to what they’re adapting or clashing with? Will said director have enough creative freedom to put their and other’s soul into it?

Of course, it doesn’t help that discourse is flattened by outrage merchants who capitalize on fan indignation. This is nothing new since a lot of animated films have been made with business in mind first. Now more than ever but it’s best to learn from history lest we repeat it.
