Writing a PhD proposal
So, you're thinking of applying for a PhD? The first thing you're going to need is a project proposal. I've been assisting a few friends with theirs over the past few weeks, so here is a breakdown of what you'll need.
PROPOSED TITLE. This should be clear and to the point. If you don't have a title, sum up the project in four or five words max. Remember, this is just a proposal, and may not reflect your later project (I changed my title later on).
SECTIONS. What these sections are varies from institute to institute, but generally includes a (very) short Introduction, Aims and Objectives, Methodology, Ethical Considerations, Research Questions (anywhere between 4-6), Funding, and a Proposed Bibliography (2-3 pages). You do not need an Abstract or Key Words (this may vary depending on the institution).
CHECK YOUR WORD COUNT. Different institutions have different requirements for their proposals. When I submitted my proposal, I was limited to 2000 words, not including bibliography. Some universities are more lenient. Be concise and axe any fluff; word economy is key as you want to demonstrate your background knowledge and research objectives.
SUPERVISOR(S). Identify people at your chosen institution who would make good supervisors. Email them directly with your proposal and CV, and write a bit about why you'd like to work with them specifically. It does help if you have read some of their work; if not, their research interests will be listed on the faculty page. Make sure that these interests align with your own, as these are people you will potentially be spending the next four years or so with.
If you are struggling to find a suitable supervisor, contact the PhD coordinator directly, and they can usually suggest some, or at least forward your proposal around the department. This is what I did at a couple of universities where I wasn't sure, and actually how I got my PhD position.
FEAR NOT THE LATE RESPONSE. Academics are busy people, and may take some time getting back to you. If you haven't heard back within ten days-two weeks, boop them (gently) again; they might have forgotten to reply or missed your email altogether.
That's it! I hope this helps any of you looking to further your education. Please bear in mind that this advice is specific to the Social Sciences (such as Anthropology). I cannot advise on what you'll need for other fields, so check university websites for requirements, or better yet, ask an existing PhD candidate or professors for tips.
As always, feel free to write in with any questions you may have, and I'll try to answer them. Best of luck with your applications!

accommodations i’ve had approved as an autistic college student
helloooo today i finally had a meeting with the disability office and have accommodations after 2 years of being in college without them. im autistic and have cptsd/dissociative issues and had a hard time finding what was even available to me to request for accommodations so i wanted to make a list to help anyone else who might be having trouble.
• Priority registration
i get to register for classes earlier each term to make sure i can create schedules that’ll work for my routine
• Extended time on assignments
self explanatory i think? was also offered extended time on tests or a separate room to take them but testing isnt where i struggle
• Flexible attendance
as long as i email beforehand i dont have to stick as strictly to professors attendance policies
• Alternative formats
if i buy a physical textbook i can request the ebook/pdf/audiobook for free to have multiple methods of studying depending on what works for me on a given day
• Note taking
allowed to audio record class and send to a service called messenger pigeon who will give me a transcript of the class and professional notes based on it
• Access to lecture notes
able to access professors lecture notes prior to class/instruction
• Devices
allowed to have phone/ipad/laptop for social buffering and notes in classes that may have policies against electronics
• Flexible participation
no cold calling, option to work alone for group projects/assignments, not required to present in front of class
if anyone has any questions lmk these are just what i have been able to get at my school so far! hope it helps
edit: this is blowing up so fellow autistics, students, language nerds, etc pls be my mutual i want friends lol my dms are also open any time !!

Gotham Characters' Reactions to the Reader Being Stressed Because They Have a Lot to Do Part 1
Reader: gender-neutral (without any pronouns) Warnings: mentions of illegal ways to get a good grade
Edward Nygma:
He's very intelligent, so if the subject is nothing too niche he will learn about it himself. You might think that he wouldn't find the time, but this man once rearranged an entire room of folders in his free time (much to Kristen's dismay), and he's ready to put in more effort for you. If you had to learn something, he'd love to quiz you by making small little riddles. .... "Almost. Do you need another hint? It ends with an e."...."Nope, silent e."
If all your time was taken up by your task, he'd make you meals or give you some dessert you like. Prepare yourself for a note on it, he'll write a related riddle on it.
If things get too far - that is, if you're too stressed, even if you mutter "I'm fine." - never leave your utensils lying around, because you will come back to find them gone, with him waiting for you, not giving them back before you answer the riddle, "You desperately need it to escape it becoming the verb that will happen to you if you don't take it, what is it?" You're too tired for this, "Please just tell me, Eddie." He puts his hands on your shoulders in a comforting way, and looks into your eyes, saying, "A break. You desperately need a break. You've been working for too long." Let's just say that he's good at hiding stuff.
Jim Gordon:
He's almost too good at giving you time and space. If you throw yourself into work, he'll do the same, and might end up having more work to do than you. However if your work overload was caused by someone, he'll have a word with them if possible. He'll give pretty much anyone hell, from the normal office worker to some rich guy from higher up. The only scenario in which he wouldn't call them out is if your boss was one of the big players...not that he wouldn't yell in Oswald's face.
Oswald Cobblepot:
Speaking of Oswald's pretty face, it would look very displeased if you of all people were being bothered with too much work. He didn't work his way up just to see that the people he cares about are unhappy, or in your case overworked.
He offers to let someone else do your work or bribe someone to change your results, that's just what he thinks of as a solution: the person he loves wouldn't be stressed out, which is the only thing that matters. Regardless of your decision, you'll be showered in supportive hugs and/or gestures, as usual. Your smaller tasks will be taken care of, and if the root of your work problem is someone, they will be intimidated.

studying is something I can do forever. there are days and months when I don't feel like studying at all. i procrastinate, I binge watch shows on Netflix, I cry, I get anxious but it's okay. you got to feel worse before feeling better. life isn't perfect and if there's no struggle then there's no fun. I'll continue to capture these moments and let the world know how I feel and accept it with open arms. idk who needs this but let me tell you bud, it's okay to feel however and whatever you feel. you're not alone in this journey. feel free to ask, say or write anything to me

THE 3-2-1 METHOD
If you come home tired after school, here's a way to continue studying.
Take two minutes to do physical activity (dancing, jumping). This will help you to perk up.
Take two minutes to do breathing exercises. This will help you calm down.
Take one minute to prepare for and focus on your studies.
This method will help you to keep being productive and to start studying.
I hope you'll try it, good luck (◕‿◕✿)

I have a question for the greater Japanese language learning community.
What is something that you wish your learning materials would explain better/do better/differently? This could be anything you have found yourself going "Man I wish they did X instead of Y" or "Z would be so much easier than learning it like B." Anything at all. https://www.tumblr.com/new/ask/senchastudying Send them here or reblob this. Up to you.
Please reblob this so I can get a wider net of answers. Please and thank you. <3 Oh and happy October. 🎃

The PQ4R Reading Method
A technique for better comphrension and memorazing of textbooks
Steps
Preview: Read the introduction and headings, look at the pictures, graphs, etc
Question: Ask yourself questions before reading. What are you trying to learn from this?
Read the material/textbook
Reflect: Were the questions answered? How? What did you learn?
Recite: Think about the material, discuss it, write it down, explain it to the wall
Review: What were the main points? Did you understand them? Were your questions answered?
Pros
Helps you have better reading comphrension (understand the material=easier to study)
It is really effective in that aspect.
It's quick. Preview and Question takes a few minutes and if there is an assignment with the material, it can cover the Recite part
Cons
It cannot stand as a study method on its own. It is amazing to undertand the topic, but not to study it. It needs to be complemented
Disclaimer: even if the "con" makes you think "oh, i shouldnt use this method because i need to complement it", thats false. The reason for this is because it is a reading method instead of an studying one. It works wonders and will help you a lot even if it doesnt seem like it.
Subject we recommend for this method
History, Geography, Literature, Civics/Ethics, Sociology, all subjects with that way of working

How do you stay motivated?
To stay motivated I just say to myself, "If I finish this I can do whatever I want afterwards.
I'm rarely motivated honestly, I just have the discipline to to sit down and do the work I need to do.
Hopes this helps somewhat :)
