May 7th, Tea Ceremony and Tokyo Skytree

As an avid fan of all things tea, coming to Japan, one of the main things I was excited for was the tea ceremony. I never knew the details, but I was even more happy to learn that it was done with matcha. My first exposure to matcha was through Starbucks and American drinks, and my own attempts had been unsuccessful. I had to use very little matcha to not have too much bitterness. However, this ceremony had very high quality matcha and the host prepared it perfectly.

We ate a small sweet chewy treat beforehand, and it really enhanced the flavor of the matcha. Our host certainly knew her matcha! After this ceremony, I ended up buying my own matcha to try and do my best keep drinking good matcha!

Our second trip of the day was to the Tokyo Skytree. Before our appointment, we split ways for free time to shop. We went to the pokemon center and I got a small Metagross figurine! (He’s my favorite pokemon).

My girlfriend was scared of heights so that was a concern. However, she faced her fears and we got many great photos together of the Tokyo skyline.
Afterword, we thrifted and got a few One Piece figurines! (Super cheap).
Academic reflection.
Noriko Reider’s reading talked about the tea ceremony and its history. It was interesting to me how it started as a masculine and diplomatic play, yet in the modern day is largely continued by women. In the past, tea and the tea ceremony was valued so highly that Oda Nobunafa spared the life of a person who offered his tea set to him.
On Japanese urban planning, Sorensen goes into the history of urban planning in Japan, and how the 1919 Tokyo City Improvement Ordinance (TCIO) set the stage for urban planning in Japan. One thing I noticed was how Japan has a more mixed use urban planning ethos than the United States. Oftentimes, people live alongside commercial districts and vice versa. Living here for this month, I recognize the prevalence of this.

For Metalsea, Eternal Eclipse (Thomas-Adam Habuda especially if I know right) is my ultimate choice for sure. Their Forgotten Odes album is already the one that is basically the main vibe inspo for the story, but I’d love to see what they’d do for it.

Hey, remember how during Pride Month the writeblr community has posts circulating where queer authors are encouraged to promote their books with queer representation?
July is disability pride month, Disabled people are at risk of falling below the poverty line especially and i'd love to help those who are published get paid this month if i can, so...
Let's do the same thing but with Disability Pride Month!!!
Disabled Writers feel free to promote your stuff!
I'll start:
Hello, I'm Anna, I'm an Autistic and ADHD author! Here are my canonically disabled characters in books that will come out in like 50 years because I'm a slow writer:
(I noticed most of these are mental disabilities and disorders, probably because that's where most of my personal experience is, BUT i do have quite a few physical disabilities in there, and there's also quite a bit of intersectionality <333)
Prince Kaye (FSF series): Kaye has OCD! He's also mixed latino and bisexual <3 very sweet scrawny peacemaker prince born to a family of warlords <3
Captain Cassandra (FSF series): Cassandra is mute due to trading her voice and tail for human legs, and partially deaf due to an explosion on the seas during a battle. Due to losing her tail for human legs, she also experiences chronic pain in her feet (the original curse of every step feeling like walking on knives if you will). She's also plus sized, pansexual, and gets a pirate girlfriend
Erica (FSF series): Erica is an amputee pirate with a peg leg. She's also lesbian, polynesian, plus sized, and Cassandra's hopeless romantic pirate girlfriend.
Princess Hestia (FSF series): Hestia has an anxiety disorder! She's also plus sized, South Asian mixed (like her brother), and falls in love with a shy blonde bookworm trans boi named Elliot
Raven (FSF series): Raven is Autistic! He's a morally gray knight charged with being the personal bodyguard of a reckless princess. He's so Latino and bisexual <3
Princess Sapphire (FSF series): Sapphire has ADHD! She's the reckless adventure seeking and impulsive princess that Raven has to protect. She's also a redhead, and demisexual <3
Triveya (FSF series): Triveya is autistic and adhd! She's the resident wizard and magic expert in the cast of FSF, and is a little bit feral with a bubbly and nerdy personality
Kylee (TCIO series): Kylee is autistic and non speaking! She's a superhero with super speed and invisibility powers, and she's the youngest of the team while also being a mischievous and outgoing ball of sunshine
Bryson (TCIO series): Bryson is diabetic! I'm still developing his character so i haven't figured out which type he is yet (leaning towards type 2). He's the superhero team medic with healing powers (can't heal himself or emotional injuries with said powers), and he's also a black guy and the token straight of the team that's on thin ice
Chase (TCIO series): Chase has OCD, a bipolar mood disorder, and chronic depression and anxiety to go with it! He's the tech guy on the team of superheroes, and doesn't have any supernatural abilities, but he's really good with computers and tech. He's cynical and sarcastic (because of the ableism he's experienced in the past) but secretly does care, and he's also Romani American and Jewish!
Corie (Galaxy Des. series): Corie is a cyborg and has prosthetic limbs! She has a prosthetic eye, arm, and leg. The eye does come with a small interface and her arm does have a laser gun attachment. She built and repairs all of her robot parts herself, and is a highly feared and valuable assassin in the galactic underworld. She's also mixed brown and is AroAce!
NOVA (Galaxy Des. series): Nova is epileptic! She is an android who was scrapped due to malfunction, and became a smuggler who is good at her trade. Due to faulty wiring she's epileptic. She's a cynical and grumpy android who accidentally falls in love with a loveable human lesbian rogue. She's bisexual and has shiny chrome skin with cyan lighting in the cracks.
Pandora (Galaxy Des. series): Pandora is a part-time wheelchair user, autistic and adhd, and tourettic! He is a biologist that formerly did morally questionable work for the galactic government, and now does that same work in the criminal underworld and sells it to the highest bidder. She also uses he/she pronouns, is mixed brown, and pansexual!
Ethel (unnamed witchy wip): Ethel has one eye and PTSD! She's a witch in a world where magic has just been outlawed, and a witch hunting cult has been hired by the new king and queen to hunt down and eradicate witches. She's also AroAce and very underdeveloped because this is a backburner wip.
Thanks for reading! Links to my wips are in my pinned post! If you are a disabled writer and or have disabled characters, do share!
Happy Disability Pride Month!

TheCityIsOurs - Low

Here At All
So I was at Download Festival this year, and before the official arena opened in the village there was a club night in full flow with bands periodically coming on to perform for us throughout the night. TheCityIsOurs were one of those acts who left quite an impression on me. All I was able to learn about them online was that they formed in London, England and that it must have been before 2015 as that is when they released their first material. That being said this right here, this is their debut full length studio album, so I’m more than game to give this a spin.
I feel like I’ve gone back to the glory days of metalcore in a way, because this is the style I remember from back in the day, a bit rough, clean vocals through the chorus and growls through the verses, this is what epitomises the metalcore I grew up loving. “Ashes” opens us up with riffs, a stunning chorus and thick metal beat downs and screams, that’s the structure but what they do is at tasty little licks and tones at times to just give it a little oomph. “Bare Bones” follows on with more metalcore goodness, beats with breakdowns, screams and a sickeningly sweet sounding chorus. “If You Know, You Know” is completely etched into my brain, I wanted to tell myself so badly that it was cliche tricks and licks but I can’t lie to myself it's proper fucking addictive. “Here At All” is the most beautifully sand track of the album, what a huge chorus that is, right in the feels.
They’re fresh blood at the moment, but they played to a decent sized crowd at Download so time will tell, if they carry on the way they have been live and on record there is absolutely no reason they cant be another british metal household name a couple decades down the line, Bullet For My Valentine were unknown once remember!

Hi!! So sorry for the late reply 😭 I keep forgetting to queue my weekend hiatus post - I'll make sure to send you a reciprocal STS ask in the morning when I have more brain!!
(also no brain = no specific links because tired and late at night, but i know for a fact all of these songs are on youtube because ive linked to them in the past! and all of them are on my spotify writing playlist, theyre just... also mixed in with 250+ others, so it might be a good idea to use the search function there)
BUT the soundtrack/composer thing is something I've thought an inordinate amount about for both of my WIPs, so...
For Whispers I'd have to go with Bear McCreary and/or Audiomachine - because of the dual storyline taking place, I think it'd be cool if there were a different composer for each, and when the stories finally collide for it to be like... a huge flex of their ability to meld their styles together, if that makes sense? If that happened I doubt it would be those two specifically but they're my favorites when it comes to Vibes.
(Bear McCreary songs on my Whispers playlist include A Son's Path, Huldra Brothers, and Giantess of Ironwood - Audiomachine songs include Russian Spring, The Crimson Drawing Room, and Vindication)
For The Millennium Saga... well.
Kevin Penkin's music, especially the stuff he's composed for Made in Abyss, captures the vibes perfectly for almost every part of the story... except most of the stuff in Goddess-Touched. Which are also heavily influenced by the more sci-fi pieces by Audiomachine.
AND I think it would be dope if Nimbus' arc in GT was characterized by having an entirely electronic + dubstep soundtrack. For that, I'd lean towards Ummet Ozcan simply because the vibes of their more recent work is PERFECT for that!
(Kevin Penkin songs that are applicable: Pathway, DRUMS OF GANJA-TAI, Glass, and Rishia Theme (III) - Audiomachine songs for TMS: Festival of Light, Ion Storm, Guardian Angels, and Langskip - Ummet Ozcan songs: Xanadu, Bifrost, and Manipulated)
#a&a#music#aboutthewarlord#talking with: cherrybombfangirlwrites#legitimately THANK YOU music is such a huge part of my process and my life#and i am also legit setting a reminder to send u an sts ask in return#u have 100% permission to remind me/bother me about it if u dont have one from me by this time tomorrow <3

Hi, thank you for this! Unfortunately, I know neither jack nor shit about movie composers. I'm not a super huge movie person in general, today was the first time I've been to a theater since... 2018? I think? (I saw the D&D movie, it was good)
However, if I had to pick a band to write the soundtrack for an adaptation of my most recent WIP, Pride & Justice, it would be Crobot, no question. The entire Motherbrain album is just... about Pride (with one song in there for Justice too) and Nowhere to Hide is already the song that plays when I imagine the hypothetical movie trailer. A ton of their songs are already on the WIP playlist and Pride's character playlist. I just love them. Dream casting for WIP music.

Happy Storyteller Saturday!! Thanks for the ask, as a major WIP playlist enthusiast this is the best question ever 😭😭
Okay hmmm so I'll answer this for my three biggest WIPs~
For Homebirds I would want Michael Giacchino because his score for The Batman was unbelievable, Homebirds is pretty different in tone but still superhero adjacent but he's got other great music as well (Ratatouille, Up, The Incredibles??) the music in The Batman was so good my dad talked about it after the movie and he never notices stuff like that, here's a sample
For The Wildfire King I would 100% want Hans Zimmer, it's not like you need to justify picking him for anything lol but I love his music in The Prince of Egypt, especially The Burning Bush, it was a big inspiration for this WIP in the first place
For To Catch the Sea I think I'd pick Anne Dudley who composed the Poldark soundtrack, it fits the vibe of the TCTS setting very well and I listened to it a lot while writing, to the point that she was in my top 5 artists on my Spotify Wrapped last year... here's a sample

For Life in Black and White 100% Jeremy Weinglass! You can hear examples of his stuff on my Instrumentals playlist for Life in Black and White or my Instrumentals playlist for The Dotted Line, or, for non-Spotify users, I'll list a few of my favorites. I absolutely love his entire Dreams album (2005), but in particular February (libaw's end arc song), Moon Child, and Perfection (on The Dotted Line's playlist). Not from that album, I also like his cover of Clocks by Coldplay, September, his cover of November Rain by GNR, his cover of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, and his cover of Don't Speak by No Doubt. My beta readers might recognize some of these titles as relevant to the story. ;)
For The Dotted Line, if we're speaking in pure pipe dream, I'd go with John Carpenter (also my favorite director). His work was a major atmospheric inspiration for what I'd like to create in terms of the horror genre, so that inspiration clearly bleeds into The Dotted Line's vibes. Bonus fun fact: his original Halloween film (1978) is my favorite movie! Some favorites: Weeping Ghost, Christine theme (from the 1983 film, also one of my favorite movies), Escape from New York theme, Halloween theme, The Fog, Night.

Hi, thank you so much!!!
I hope this doesn’t sound weird, but I’d love to have Joe Hisashi compose for the Preston-to-Paradise series. I grew up with a lot of Studio Ghibli movies and have been obsessing over the soundtrack to Howl’s Moving Castle to this day lol
The Flower Garden especially has these grand yet soft vibes that fit so well for Paradise and it’s characters.

hi Anna!! Thanks for asking! <333 (seriously, I live for your questions!!)
Unfortunately, I don't have a very good answer for this one, because I don't listen to a lot of instrumental music, hence I am not very familiar with composers. I mean, I know Hans Zimmer and John Williams, and that's about as far as my knowledge of modern-day composers goes, unfortunately. (Honestly, one of my favorite, if not the favorite parts of music is the lyrics, hence why I don't listen to a lot of instrumental music / scores.)
And the scores I am familiar with are largely action movies (Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, Avengers, Star Wars, etc.), since that's my preferred genre for the most part, and since those movies have such iconic scores. But my currents WIPs for the most part don't have those high-stakes, high-action vibes (except for a few scenes), so those kinds of scores wouldn't be fitting.
So basically, I have no idea. Sorry for the unsatisfying answer!
