Some ways to avoid generative AI in web searches
Our web searches are being filled with more and more AI-generated slop. GenAI creates misinformation that can be difficult to tell apart from the correct answer to whatever question you're looking up. GenAI mixes things up that have similar names. In one example that is especially easy to recognize, genAI has thought that a baseball team and the bird that it was named after must both be the same creature, with a bizarre combination of their eating habits and behaviors. This mistake still happens with specialized topics that could be harder for you to recognize unless if you're already very familiar with the topic in question. GenAI also makes up fake sources and facts out of thin air, and you can't tell until you try to find them somewhere else. The tech is more like advanced predictive text than something capable of research or reasoning, even though it can look enough like it that it can fool you if you don't know how to spot its mistakes.
Not only are the results of genAI unreliable, the source texts and images that they’re based on were used without permission. Sometimes they aren't modified enough to avoid plagiarism, but it's worse than that. Source images have turned out to be private medical photos and intimate personal photos that hackers had stolen and leaked to harass the people in the photos. Another reason why this technology is unethical is that each genAI query has such a high energy cost that it's significantly harmful to the environment, contributing to the climate crisis.
Here are some things that you can do when you use Google, DuckDuckGo, or other conventional general web search engines:
To turn off Google's AI Overview, set "web" as default. Here's how to do that on your devices and web browsers.
Add this string to any web search to only show results from before the genAI fad. Before:2021
Install the web browser extension uBlacklist. You give it a list of web addresses to not show you in your web searches anymore. Other people maintain lists for it that you can subscribe to so that you won’t see certain types of results in your web searches. Follow the instructions in Laylavish’s Huge AI Blocklist to subscribe to that list which will rid your web search results of AI-generated pages or images.
Since genAI slop is getting to be such a big problem on them, use alternatives to conventional general web search engines some of the time:
Use a specialized search engine instead of a general one. For example, if you only wanted to find a particular science article, there are specialized search engines that only look for those. The blog post "Skip Google for Research" has a list of specialized search engines for academics.
GenAI is notoriously bad at math because that’s too far outside the scope it was designed for: advanced predictive text. In any case, genAI is overpowered for math that is easy for computers to do. If you want to use a very advanced calculator, or even ask a math question in natural language, use Wolfram Alpha.
For questions about how to do things, look them up in WikiHow, the Youtube channel Dad, How Do I? or The Ultimate Manuals Library.
You can search within Wikipedia, but unfortunately vandals have been putting machine-generated falsehoods into it, as well as genAI images. To avoid this, use the article history to view versions of the article from before 2022.
Ask yourself if there are some topics that you often do a web search for just because you keep forgetting an answer to something. Start saving those answers in a book or file that you can refer to offline. This is called a commonplace book. For an example of one, Beth and Angel made theirs into a zine, Stuff I Often Google.
How about a completely different sort of web search than present-day Google or DuckDuckGo? Marginalia Search only brings up results that are text-heavy and similar to the web of the 1990s and 2000s. Its software is independent and open-source.
Have you been using a web search engine to take you to the websites that you visit on a regular basis? Switch to saving them in your web browser's bookmarks folder. Your web browser, Firefox, can sync your bookmarks to your other devices. If you often need to refer to a large number of static web pages (ones that don't change what is on them every day), then you can save and organize them in your Zotero, a bibliography management program. You can sort them with folders and tags so you can find them again.

Hey Curly.
I don’t blame you for not being super excited about rescue, to be honest I’ve been a little nervous about it myself.
What if they don’t have good medical supplies? Or what if they do, but they have to put you in a coma or something? What if we won’t be able to talk to you anymore? How will things change when you get back on earth? Will everyone make it out okay? Will pony express get brought to justice?
What if whatever has been letting us talk to you doesn’t work when you’re on earth? What if it’s only when you’re in space—or only when you’re injured and unable to communicate?
I’ve wondered a lot about our purpose in all this. We helped provide light in your darkest days (well, most of us did). We helped prevent the worst outcome. We fulfilled our duty. Once you’re rescued, will there be a place for us anymore…?
Hopefully you’ll at least still be able to talk to Kind Words and Kestrel—they got they psychic connection stuff going on. And I don’t know if anyone here is from the same universe as u are, but if they are I guess there’s the possibility of finding you and reconnecting online or in person…
If we are cut off from you and never able to speak to you again…
I think I could accept that. It’d make me sad, and I’d miss you, and I know you’d miss us too, but… just knowing you’d be okay, that you were recovering and living your life and stuff, I think I’d be able to let you go. You won’t be alone. You’ll have your friends and family to support you. I know you’ve felt like everyone moved on without you, but you’re an amazing person, and I’m sure so many people would be happy to have you back in their life. And you have your crew. And it’s never too late to make new friendships as well.
Even if it wasn’t by… the best method, you’ll finally be free from Pony Express and Jimmy. You’ll finally be able to rediscover who you are without them, and learn to… live again. No more walking around on eggshells. No more being jerked around across the galaxy, unable to connect with anyone from your life back on earth and under awful working conditions.
Recovery will be tough, and scary, but you will get better. You’ll get skin grafts and prosthetics and stuff, yeah? And they got that eye tracking technology—so even if your throat/vocal cords don’t recover, or while they’re recovering, you’ll still be able to communicate, yeah? No more feeling completely trapped in your body, voiceless and powerless.
I think part of me always kinda knew… this couldn’t last forever. That sooner or later we’d lose you, or be cut off from you. Knowing the other possible outcomes… this one is probably the best. You’re safe(ish), and alive, and you’re gonna be saved. A lot better than the outcome I thought we’d be stuck with—you stuck in a frozen limbo, us never knowing if you’d ever be saved or just die there… so, knowing how much worse things could be, I guess I should complain, even if saying goodbye is still…sad.
Sure, there’s always been the possibility in my mind of us sticking with you even when you’re back on earth, but it’s also always seemed a bit… unrealistic. We’d probably cause some problems for you—hearing voices all the time while going about your daily life, trying to focus on conversations with someone right in front of you while these mental conversations are constantly going on… might make you seem a bit, I dunno, strange. Might make it harder to reintegrate and all that.
But well. Who knows what the future holds. I guess anything could happen, so there’s no point in worrying about it. Just gotta hope for the best, and keep moving forward I guess. Take things one day at a time.
If we’ll be cut off from you, and this is goodbye, well…
I just wanted to tell you… I’m glad to have been part of your life. Even if it was only for a little bit. I’ll never forget you.
~🌃🌠🌌

Okay back on my Pokémon thoughts- forget the teams for a second that stuff takes longer than expected to narrow down.
Been thinking what types the boys would be and I think I’ve narrowed them down to a select few for each of them.
For Mikey, I’m thinking Electric, Fire, and Fairy. Electric because he just has so much energy, and I feel like his razzmatazz is akin to how Electric types typically are + Electric types are very chaotic and Mikey is also Very Chaotic. For Fire, well I feel like that one is self explanatory with not only how his first weapon operated but also how his ninpo works in general + how he’s generally a very warm-hearted boy. For Fairy, I tend to associate Fairy types with magic, and considering how Mikey is the most tied with mystics, I think this goes well with him + he’s a smol guy. I’m leaning Fire/Fairy though.
For Donnie, I’m thinking Electric, Steel, and Psychic. Electric because TECHNOLOGY. Steel because TECHNOLOGY. Psychic because of how his ninpo works primarily revolving around TECHNOLOGY. Okay but to be more in depth- like I mentioned with Mikey, Electric is a chaotic type and I think Donnie aligns with chaos a lot. For Steel, yes because of technology, but also because of how Donnie tries to portray himself as “emotionally unavailable” so the defenses he puts up in that regard are very Steel like. For Psychic, let’s be real that’s the “smart” type for the most part (plus it’s purple). Donnie could be any combo of these to be honest but I’m leaning Steel/Electric.
For Leo, I’m thinking Steel, Dragon, Dark, and Water. Steel because of his swords (and like I said with Donnie, the defenses that Leo puts up to mask his feelings and true self.) Dragon because I find that to be a big “leader-ly” type, and him having that type works well with his eventual position as team leader. Dark because let’s be real, he is a schemer, and Dark types in general tend to be very scheme-y and misunderstood. Water because he’s a lackadaisical character who goes with the flow a lot of the time, even against his better judgment. This boy makes it a mission to be hard to figure out, so I genuinely have no idea what he’d be. EDIT: I have been successfully convinced to lean Water/Dark for Leo! EDIT 2: HMM maybe flying and ghost now as potentials???? Why is Leo so hard to figure out.😭 EDIT 3: I cannot believe I’m saying this but I’m actually leaning hardest to Dark/Ghost now. Dark is all but confirmed in my mind but Ghost is very quickly making itself make sense here ironically.
For Raph, I’m thinking Fighting, Fire, Ground, and Dragon. Fighting because he LOVES fighting, he’s good at it, and he’s the one who strives to get the actual moves down most + this goes with his protective personality. Fire because he DOES have a temper to him, however much he wants to keep it pushed down, but also he, like Mikey, is a very warm-hearted boy. Ground because he’s the tank!! And he’s solid in his strength and his duty. Dragon because he’s the eldest, the one the boys look to for strength, the one who was the initial leader and-! He looks the most like a dragon lol. Like Leo, it’s kinda hard to have a favorite combo for Raph, but I think I’m leaning Fighting/Dragon. EDIT: I have been convinced that Fighting is a definite for Raph but Ground may work better for his secondary!
This was a lot harder to think of than I thought haha. Please if you have any ideas let me know (especially since I’m not totally convinced or tied to anything in particular quite yet)! While it’s hard to pin down perfect typings, it’s also very fun.

something i haven't understood in obey me so far playing is what year it's set in? did I miss the amount of years stated somewhere?
like we have the D.D.D. which is like a cell phone. But then we get sent back in Nightbringer and we still have D.D.D. And anime. And heavy metal, probably. What year is it again?
No way it's been like centuries, which is how they make it sound. I'm not even sure it's been a whole decade into the past. How long does it take to get a school up and running, Diavolo?
-a confused player
Dear A Confused Player,
Don't worry. You are all of us.
You didn't miss anything about what the years are because they've never stated anything about that.
They kinda explain everything away with the "time soup" but even that isn't really an explanation at all. They mostly just don't talk about it.
It's generally accepted that the Devildom is behind the human world technology-wise. There's proof of this in season three of the OG where the brothers don't know how to use some pretty basic kitchen appliances. The idea is that in the Devildom, they have magic to supplement their tech needs, so they don't need as much tech. This is pretty standard for fantasy worldbuilding. It's the idea that magic essentially does a lot of the stuff we use technology for.
But then yeah, Nightbringer happened. And that's supposedly thousands (millions? they don't state specifics) of years in the past. So presumably, the technology wouldn't be as advanced as it is in OG. Which would mean we wouldn't have things like D.D.D.s and there was also the wasted potential of old school outfits.
Since things seem to be about the same in Nightbringer tech-wise, the question becomes why?
Either Nightbringer is set in a timeline that's so drastically different that this tech was developed a lot earlier than in the OG timeline OR it's always been that way and the OG timeline was actually taking place far into the future for us. Another possibility is that the Devildom actually developed all their tech before the human world developed theirs, but at some point their development just stagnated. Meaning it stayed at about the same level from Nightbringer to OG.
And then there's the RAD founding discrepancy. In OG, they make it sound like RAD has been around since way before Lucifer & co fell, but this was mostly portrayed through old Devilgrams. So they just straight up retconned that. I think RAD's development has only been happening for a few years in Nightbringer and then it's established before MC leaves.
All of this is to say, the time is wonky and makes no sense. You can speculate about it for hours and still come up with ??? because any of these options could work. Due to them fucking around with time travel, timelines, and "time soup," anything goes at this point.
Time travel is a risky thing to include in a story for many reasons. And this right here is one of them.
We might've been able to suspend our disbelief on the time frame of the OG, but now that they've tossed in this time travel to the supposedly distant past, it's a lot harder to just go well, it's a fantasy story so I'm not gonna worry about it!
Just one of my many complaints about the writing of this game lol.
Anyway, that's the best I can do, I'm afraid. I might have gotten some details wrong because I forget things sometimes, but this is how I've always interpreted things. I hope that helps a little, but in the end it's kinda up to you to headcanon whatever you like!

Wraith vs Goa'uld
Ok so these are basically the 2 biggest enemies in Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. We've seen both of these enemies go up against the replicators and honestly they get their asses handed to them REPEATEDLY. I mean the only way the Wraith survived them was by turning off the directive sending them at them. We already know who'd win there, but I'm curious about who'd win between the Wraith and the Goa'uld. This is what I've theorized while being in season 1 of SGA rewatch (Edit: I finished it now, wrote this a while ago) and like a year since my last SG-1 rewatch so if I forget stuff, that's why.
Firepower:
The Goa'uld have it here I think. I mean, they've got staff weapons which kill vs the stun guns wraith have. Wraith ships are organic and quite sensitive when it comes to traveling fast due to the risk of ripping the hull in two. Even the zat gun, their version of a stun gun, can still kill, not to mention their personal shields (not that that'd stop a wraith from feeding on them, but from the blasts yes). The Wraith are too focused on preserving the life of their victims in order to feed to win this potion in my opinion.
Numbers:
This is a hard one to me to be honest. The Goa'uld have the Jaffa with them (if we're talking about their prime at least), and the Goa'uld themselves, both of which have long life spans and healing capabilities. Neither of these come even close to the Wraiths abilities though (those mf basically have to be nuked in order to die if they've eaten recently). I honestly think the Wraith might have the numbers on this though given the sheer scale we see in SGA, plus they're harder to kill.
Battle tactics:
The Goa'uld really take a hit here honestly. Both species are incredibly cocky but the Wraith are smart. The Goa'uld genuinely believe they're gods who could never be defeated and that's what gets them wiped out in the end. The Wraith's confidence comes from their victories, from the fact that they beat the ancient's asses so hard the few survivors ran to another galaxy to get away from them. They're powerful, smart, hard to kill, and they know they have the numbers on any other thing in the pegasus galaxy who could rival them technologically. Strategically, they whoop the Goa'uld.
Technology:
The wraith 1000%. The Goa'uld have tech, yeah, but they stole like all of it. The wraith did it all, were they inspired by the ancients? Probably, but they made their shit. They grew ships for fucks sake! They figured out ancient tech, they could figure out any tech you could possibly throw at them and we see that repeatedly. They do not fuck around, Goa'uld don't have scientists, not on their level anyway. I mean, do you see the Goa'uld hacking the replicators? No, those dudes just died in the face of them.
Conclusion:
Honestly I think the Goa'uld would shit themselves in the face of the Wraith. The Goa'uld need to be feared to stay in power but the Wraith are fear. They are the thing in the dark. They might not have the fire power the snake dudes have but I'm confident they would whoop them. I do wonder what tf would happen if a Goa'uld got a Wraith as a host. THAT is horrifying to think about, I mean, it would not be wrong in having the cockiness they do at that point tbh.
Anyway, I'd love to hear your thought on the matter, agreeing or disagreeing!

(Same anon) As someone who's been in multiple fandoms for years, art-styles that are semi-similar or are extremely different from the source material pretty much comes with the package. It can be very fun at times. (Franchises with very simplistic designs seem more prone to it)
That's something I've noticed with fandom when it comes *CG series, unless there's 2D content or some concept art floating around somewhere, fans seem to have a harder time translating the characters into drawings. (With Jimmy, it's mainly just him you can find this stuff on. The rest of the cast you kinda have to wing it. For such a big show, character refs is surprisingly scarce. And some promo stuff being lost to time.)
*nods* Yeah, crossovers can be cool. Nick and CN had plenty of official bumpers that was just characters mingling with each other outside of shows. (But when it comes down to the shows individually, Jimmy unfortunately has been holding the short{hehe} end of the stick for quite a while now if we're talking just the OG Unite gang. Both official and fan stuff. Planet Sheen left a big sour taste.)
(*Probably why I'm adamant that if the show ever came back, I rather it stayed CG. Not because I think 2D would be bad or an ironic twist that the 3D show comes back in 2D while its sister 2D show{FOP} had came back in 3D, but the sheer fact that it was Jimmy's identity. The fact that people were blown away by the animation from that one car commercial that came out a year after the show ended, imagine what they can do now without the technological limitations.)
Ah yes, classic fandom meme “Original artstyle: 0.0 Fanart: *damn Rembrandt ass painting*" Not gonna lie, I'm a huge fan of this, give me two and don't forget the cheese sauce!
But yes, this show has some incredible amount of content that can be considered almost lost media of a kind. The huge amount of official fanfiction promotional materials, comics, illustrated books and other things released on the prime of the series is almost impossible to find completely on the Internet. I still occasionally dive into the Internet archive or through old forums to see if I can find a new one piece lol
Yeah, I can kind of see it. If I recall the 3D show fandoms I've encountered, they all really either have official 2D concepts that influenced general "fandom art style", or a huge fan base that chews it up for you *cough* Miraculous *cough* and you don't have to think about it much because you get it ready on a plate from more skilled people in this regard lol
It's not a stick anymore, it's almost a broken twig “No.. No Not You Seamus” (this franchise is like a middle child who was abandoned in the mall as soon as he turned 18 and their parents have already replaced the locks in the 3 hours they were walking home)
Oh Planet Sheen... 🚬... I haven't heard this name for a while...
The only good thing I got out of it was the headcanon that it was a Sheen's self-insert fanfic, because if you say that Sheen didn't make a poorly written self-insert fanfics you're lying to yourself lol (I like to joke that the failure of Planet Sheen scared Nick's tops so much that they hid everything related to the show in a separate room in the office and it haunts the CEO like a cryptid lol)
Although the story behind its creation is kind of sad, because it was never meant to be like this, not even being part of JN, and was just forced into one mass of a show. (didn't even allow them to add Carl, so they had to use an artificial substitute, for me, is telling something)
I damn sure agree with you!! And this is coming from a person who loves 2D animation much more than 3D lol (although I also love stylized 3D, it's such a blend of different dimensions that I just drown in it) I don't know if anyone would like to go a little more in the stylized 3D direction, mostly because I have no idea what it would look like in my 2D brain lol, but I'd be interested to see it
BUT I will always be more worried not so much about the style of animation as about who will be responsible for this animation. Because we can get both Trollhunters and Miraculous post S1, it's a gamble of budget and effort lol

Ik most of us came to the conclusion that Dazai is an alcoholic (bc he is) but chuuya isn't and that his hobby is just drinking alcohol. Personally, I think that both of them are, here's why:
I dont really have to explain dazai cause we all know why we perceive him as an alcoholic (hence all of those bottles in his room and him going to the bar repeatedly when he was young), but I'll explain chuuya.
First of all, Chuuya's likes in the character's chart is "dogs" and "booze". Of course you can like alcohol and not be an alcoholic, that is obvious, but it's the way that drinking alcohol (specifically wine) is one of his main likes. Now, you can obviously love alcohol and not be an addict, most people who are addicted don't like alcohol because of its taste, but because it's a way to forget all of your problems, at least for a moment. It is a way to relieve the pain. And this doesn't just apply to alcohol, it as well apply to technology, food, self harm (wich may not be an addiction but it is a coping mechanism, that's why it's so hard to stop), smoking or vaping, drugs, etc.
Also, we see in wan that they use a lot the joke that chuuya is a lightweight and can't control his alcohol, we see him drinking all the time in wan a joke. This might indicate that he does get drunk pretty often. I also wanted to add that, in the extra chapters, chuuya is seen drunk, upset and trying to call Dazai, and I think that explains a lot too.
If you'd read stormbringer and fifteen, you'd know that this man has suffered quite a lot, so it's very possible that one of his ways of coping is by drinking.
Another reason I think he might be an addict could be that he has been drinking since he was in the sheep, and that is quite a lot ago. This is canon, since shirase in stormbringer has mentioned that the sheep (and that includes chuuya) has been stealing alcohol before and they used to drink it, despite being underage.
We also saw that with the flags he drank, too. Since he has probably started drinking when he was an early teen, this must mean that his relationship with alcohol is not healthy at all.
I also want to add that this man has a lot of trauma and is in the mafia. It's very likely if not canon that he has addictions with substances. We've seen him smoke a couple of times. In fact, we saw that in the extra chapters he was drinking AND smoking at the same time. The times we saw him consume this stuff was when he was distressed, except when he, kouyou and mori celebrated.
I think that sums it all up. I wanted to make this analysis since when we all started realizing that dazai was an ACTUAL alcoholic, we've started to minimize chuuyas relationship with alcohol and reduce it as a hobby, including myself. I realized that both of them use alcohol as a coping mechanism and not just chuuya or just dazai.
(Actually, the only thing that contradicts my take is the fact that chuuya has a poor alcohol tolerance, and If you are addicted to alcohol your body would get used to it and it would be harder for you to get drunk as easily as chuuya gets. Either way, my point still stands)

"Wait, did I fail to mention the reason...?" Cue blinking. She WOULD forget that, wouldn't she?
"So, doing enlightened science will get you hit by paradox if the world doesn't like it. Meaning, for example, if I was trying to make my transformative candies in most realities, paradox would make them fail, or actively try to push back against me. Put another way, if you tried to construct a giant robot, it would certainly fail. But, if you move the construction to a place where the paradigm is accepting, and then you move the thing into a place where it's not accepted, you reality won't punch you in the face. Usually."
"In other words, it's a loophole of sorts. If I construct my ideas in a place that allows for them, and move them into a place where they aren't accepted... Then they'll still work but I won't have to worry about reality punching me in the face."
"But this usually only works for things that don't require constant action. Ergo, if we made a giant robot, the thing itself might not be crushed immediately by reality. But the power generators absolutely would, because they're constantly pressing against reality. A railgun that fires objects from another dimension might get away with being fired, but a subspace generator that requires constant power generator probably would."
"Incidentally, this is exactly why wizards and the like of the past had their workshops in special places. Why does Merlin need to be in a tower to do his magic? He doesn't, but that's the only place reality won't stomp on his face. You make a magic sword in wonderland, that vorpal sword can be taken elsewhere without worry. But try to make it in reality, and it'll get you stomped on."
"Of course, tricking reality like this requires some level of forethought. Science, by focusing on devices, often gets away with things easier than magic does. Explaining that a thing does a thing is much more compatible than trying to say a person can do a thing."
"For example, magical worlds generally believe that objects can do wonderous things. A magic sword, a powerful gem, that sort of bullshit. That means you can take your enlightened science device and it fits right in, right under the radar. Compare that to, say, trying to explain why someone can throw a fireball in a technological paradigm. Much harder when people believe that you can't do things without devices."
Tumblr media
"...Okay, you might have lost me again- So constructing or powering an item that doesn't work within consensus is an issue, but it existing isn't?" This is what she gets for asking questions-
"Because people will make their own reasons as to why something like that can exist? Or that you aren't...actively breaking consensus just by it existing?"
To be fair, she probably wouldn't question the existence of some alien relic - but would start second-guessing it the moment it started to do funky stuff.

Why Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow is a Good Movie
I've said a lot in my essays and on here, and I will continue to say a lot, about how many of the Naruto and Shippuden movies are terrible. But I'm not hating on all of them. There are a few that really hold up.
The first movie, Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow, is one of those few.
Let's go over why it works.
For one, it's early in the timeline and Team Seven hasn't broken up. That's always nice. For two, it shows the team working together, shows off Sasuke's talents with things other than his Sharingan, and also shows off Sakura's skills, too. Not anything super flashy, but it's there. That's another plus.
The movie even shows a little bit of genuine teamwork between Sasuke and Sakura against the Snow ninja. No "you're annoying, Sakura." No fawning from her. No leaving her on the backburner like in the Hidden Waterfall OVA.
Seriously, it's at the 1 hour and 7 minute mark. Sasuke asks Sakura how close the enemy ninja are, she gives him and answer, and even where to aim. He sets up a wire trap, Sakura uses explosive tags to take down one enemy and blow the one who is gliding right into the trap. The two of them are working together like a real team.
Maybe I'm forgetting something, but as far as I can remember, those two working together like that in a combat situation is really rare. Simple, but effective.
In this movie, Fire Country has a film industry. We also see examples of high technology like cars and trains and even kunai Gatling guns. And is this story breaking?
No.
The kunai Gatling gun is odd, but it's a way to keep to the "no firearms" rule and also get creative. I like it. Sure, it doesn't appear outside the movie, but that can just mean it's not a common weapon, and that's fine. The existence of trains is odd, but it is confined to the country and it just furthers the debate on the development of technology in this world.
And there is a discussion to be had on technology. I'll be doing something on that one of these days. The series has already show the existence of power lines and vending machines right off the bat, if I am remembering right, not to mention wearable radios. The Chunin Exams had VHS tapes.
I will give you one thing, the existence of cars is strange. Those cars were used by the Fire Country film crew, and cars are a technological leap that comes after trains. So...maybe that one can be mentally edited out.
Ultimately, the cars are a very small detail and doesn't hurt the movie too much. While they're used to travel around the Land of Snow, the use of cars isn't actually plot critical. It's when the mistakes in a story start piling up that it becomes harder to overlook the smaller stuff, or when the mistakes are really big.
It might have been better if the vehicles were provided by the Land of Snow or something. I think there might have been a novelization of the movie, but if there was, it was never released outside Japan or translated by fans. Annoying.
What about Doto not finding Koyuki for ten (actually 14, but whatever) years, despite her being a big actress? I don't think it's an issue. She was a little girl when she was rescued, and when I did my timeline, I didn't have her start her acting career until she was 16. She had to have been 20 at the time of the movie, minimum, and it's possible that nobody in the Land of Snow was watching her movies.
So, no, that's not really a plothole.
The director wanting to keep filming despite the danger? It is pretty nuts, but it only establishes his character, and he doesn't come off like some heartless jerk.
Koyuki's depression and hopelessness? No, that's not a problem. For what she's been through, it makes total sense. Her expression "there is no spring in the Land of Snow," is taken as literal, and that's ridiculous, but we can re-interpret that as metaphorical. It's not too big an issue.
Kakashi duplicating Ice Release? A plot hole now, yes. However, Ice Release hadn't been established as a kekkei genkai yet, so we can forgive that.
So...why does this movie work?
The plot, while fairly straightforward and while not carrying any big or complex themes, is solid as steel.
And yes, there are engaging fights present in this movie, too. But do not let that be the only measuring stick for this movie or the series. Fights without working context aren't worth much, something films like Batman v. Superman have proved quite firmly in more recent years. We don't get into series like this for the fights. We get into them because we became emotionally invested in the characters. Actions scenes are a bonus, not the end all.
In this film, the characters are all acting in character. The motivations make sense. Nobody is being egregiously stupid or awful in a way that hurts the narrative. Team Seven is acting more like the team you'd wanted them to be. Yes, the worldbuilding has a few little blemishes, but nothing too destructive.
Why most of the other films couldn't be that well put together, I don't know. But this one definitely was.

I have been reading ‘Hackers & Painters’ by Paul Graham recently. Paul is a hacker who gets pretty rich after his company which uses Lisp for development and one of the first companies used server based programs with lots of releases instead of a Desktop app. I really enjoyed this book. Even tho some parts were outdated, it makes you think about certain topics. It was more excited at start but gets kinda boring and unnecessarily longer in the end. I wanted to quote some parts i chose from the book:
While the nerds were being trained to get the right answers, the popular kids were being trained to please. (p.4)
hackers start original, and get good, and scientists start good, and get original. (p.26)
People in past times were much like us. Not heroes, not barbarians. Whatever their ideas were, they were ideas reasonable people could believe. (p.38)
scientists, or at least of the good ones, is precisely that: look for places where conventional wisdom is broken, and then try to pry apart the cracks and see what’s underneath. That’s where new theories come from. A good scientist, in other words, does not merely ignore conventional wisdom, but makes a special effort to break it. Training yourself to think unthinkable thoughts has advan- tages beyond the thoughts themselves. It’s like stretching. When you stretch before running, you put your body into positions much more extreme than any it will assume during the run. If you can think things so outside the box that they’d make people’s hair stand on end, you’ll have no trouble with the small trips outside the box that people call innovative. (p.39)
How are we to develop new technology if we can’t study current technology to figure out how to improve it? (this IBM having patent and abandoning to open their products are mentioned in the tv serie named Halt and Catch Fire too)
Authoritarian countries become corrupt; corrupt coun- tries become poor; and poor countries are weak. (p.43)
since you don’t understand the code as well, you’re more likely to fix it in an ugly way, or even introduce more bugs. (p.65, this is also what I hated on people I worked with, also please don't forget to clean the code after deletions)
It works a lot better for a small team of good, trusted programmers than it would for a big company of mediocre ones, where bad ideas are caught by committees instead of the people who had them. (p.69)
Wealth is stuff we want: food, clothes, houses, cars, gadgets, travel to interesting places, and so on. You can have wealth without having money. Money is a way of moving wealth, and in practice they are usually interchangeable. What most businesses really do is make wealth. They do something people want. (p.90)
Many employees would work harder if they could get paid for it. (p.97. I would)
Steve Jobs once said that the success or failure of a startup depends on the first ten employees. I agree. If anything, it’s more like the first five. Being small is not, in itself, what makes startups kick butt, but rather that small groups can be select. You don’t want small in the sense of a village, but small in the sense of an all-star team. (p.100)
Norbert Wiener said if you compete with slaves you become a slave. (p.124)
Great work usually seems to happen because someone sees something and thinks, I could do better than that. (p.145)
The word “essay” comes from the French verb “essayer,” which means “to try.” An essay, in the original sense, is something you write to try to figure something out. (p.160)
In OO languages, you can, to a limited extent, simulate a closure (a function that refers to variables defined in surrounding code) by defining a class with one method and a field to replace each variable from an enclosing scope. This makes the programmer do the kind of code analysis that would be done by the compiler in a language with full support for lexical scope, and it won’t work if more than one function refers to the same variable, but it is enough in simple cases like this. (p.197)

I got sad over an OC… AGAIN
(See what happened last time here!)
Now put yourself into the mind of the OC I’m sad about at the moment…
You aren’t human by technicality. Then again, so isn’t most of the world’s population considering the abundance of magic the Creator has gifted onto Gaea.
Even with that, people like you aren’t really respected, even after two great wars. Same thing can go with people of your nationality considering what social studies & history have taught you.
Guess that makes all the bullying that ends up coming your way somewhat understandable. Most of the insults that wound up getting thrown in your direction are frankly harmless if you ignore them.
But as you get older, ignoring those insults gets harder and harder. And after one certain kind of insult gets thrown your way, you ultimately break.
“Why would someone love a person like yourself?”
“You don’t even deserve love in the first place.”
All the insults thrown your way actually hurt more than ever after someone tells you that. And just when things can’t get worse, some people even start using slurs against you.
It all leads to you lashing out at your bullies, you beat them to a pulp during passing period before they’re all on the ground begging for mercy.
You somehow don’t get expelled over that, but your parents decide it’s best to move to somewhere new to restart.
Even though you’re in a new school in a new country, what those “classmates” of yours said all those years back in your previous school still encircle your mind.
So you blend into the crowd, never make friends, spend time with only yourself, and basically become invisible to everyone.
When you eventually graduate to enrol into an Academy, everything changes.
You’re put into a group of 7 other people your age, and most of them are just a painful reminder of what you don’t deserve have;
The two girls in your group have been dating before they enrolled, your cousin reunited with their childhood friend? crush, and they wound up dating after their first day at the academy, and the two leaders of your group spent the first week pining for each other, only to constantly flirt around the whole group once they get together.
There’s also someone else in the group, and by the looks of it, he didn’t seem to be in a relationship.
You get feelings for them start to enjoy their presence. He’s actually intrigued by your interests & heritage, and by the looks of it, their kind of like you in a way.
But then again, why would he like or even love someone like you?
It still mostly seems pointless
Your birthday eventually comes around.
Your crush friend gifts you two items you’ve wanted ever since you were young and takes you out on a date invites you to check out the retro store they found.
You actually enjoy your birthday with him, and you actually feel an abundance of joy, and it makes you forget that they probably wouldn’t like you back.
But then, you’re both sitting atop a building’s rooftop as the sun begins to set.
He admits that he… always enjoyed spending time with you, and wanted to hang out today since your cousin told them about your past.
You’re obviously grateful, and voice it out.
But right as you talk about how today couldn’t get better,
He kisses you
You’re stunned over what just happened, and they quickly apologize. But as he apologizes, he says something you wouldn’t expect to hear from anyone besides your family,
“I love you”
You can feel a smile grow on your face as they said that.
You hold both of their hands with yours,
You say it back to them,
He smiles back at you,
And you pull him into another kiss.
You feel them deepen the kiss as they put their hands around your waist as your hands being to caress his cheeks.
In the end, you always deserve to be loved
———
okay OC rambling’s done, i’d just like to say that
1) Jadeyn [It’s pronounced Jay-den btw, also they’re the OC this whole thing’s about] Mainly inherits the interest I have for old retro technology, and nostalgic stuff that predates the 2010s. So them being figuratively stuck in the past is a major fucking coincidence I came across when writing their backstory
2) Remember that other post that I linked at the top of this post where I rambled about another OC?
He was the same OC that Jadeyn fell for

Eyyyyyy trolls ocs ref sheets >:) (Birch redesign btw! Might redesign Skip, too) imma put some stuff about em underneath the cut plus a line up of their height difference
They’re kind of like next gen snack pack? I dont have a good group name for em yet tho
Birch: Poppy and Branch’s oldest, therefore making them the heir to Pop Village. As an overprepper, you can always find Birch stressing over the flow of the party rather than enjoying it(if she’s hosting that party in the first place). But despite his ability to prepare— or over prepare— for any situation, their responsibility is always thrown into question. So to test his responsibility, Poppy assigns her the task of befriending and teaching Buzz the Party Crasher how to be nice and get along with others— which proves to be harder than expected.
Buzz: Having heard of the previous group of runaways and how free they lived, Buzz tagged along with the new emergence of the Party Crashers. They were successful in their run of 7 years before the Country Trolls put a stop to their tricks during an attempt to crash their hoedown, which failed because they caught on to the scout fairly fast. Buzz had no significant position in the group but did manage to get everyone to stand their ground in refusing to go home. As Poppy has dealt with previous Party Crashers before, she volunteers to help with the Country Troll’s situation of 17-24 year olds refusing to even leave their jail. Buzz has a strong sense of leadership but poor strategic skills. She doesn’t back down from a challenge and tends to charge in without prior thinking. Shes described to be a tough shell to crack.
Demi: Despite his very pastel appearance, Demi is a very big fan of hard rock, but still proudly parades his classical side by playing the saxophone, his very first instrument. When not partying, singing, or hanging with his friends, he’s overworking himself through practice in true classical style. He maybe always on the verge of collapse after a particularly long and hard practice sesh, but he’s always sure to be on time for whatever event he’s promised to go to, never the type to cancel or skip out on plans. His rock side shines best when seated behind a set of drums.
Wheaton: A lot like his dad Milton, he’s very kind and gentle— to critters anyway. His social interactions with other trolls could be worked on, especially when he intends to go into the medical field. Like anyone on his maternal side, he’s very strong and passionate about his workout routine. Although he tends to forget his own strength. His best friend is and always will be his twin brother Mouse, but according to him you’d have to hogtie him and string up like a piñata in order for him to admit this to Mouse’s face.
Mouse: When he was 8, he went to his first rave after being invited to a birthday party by a classmate and ever since he’s been a big fan of techno. He combined both pop and techno together and calls it electro-pop. He’s pretty chill going until you mess with one of his friends. Wherein his strength will show along with the rare showing of his temper. He’s a hopeless romantic. Whether or not she really does improve, Mouse vows he will never trust Buzz even if she saves all of troll kind.
Groovy Flo: New to Pop Troll Village, Groovy Flo is half funk/glitter [pop] troll desiring the need to learn about the other side of her family. Although her true desire is to bring back disco, having taken a fascination with the extinct genre after reading up on them. While taking to the “old fashioned” way of baking without the assistance of funk technology very easily, she hasn’t mastered scrapbooking, much to her dismay. She claims her highly accurate memory is thanks to her hours of reading history books. She has a kid sister back in Funk City and misses her dearly, her baby sister being her “best friend in the whole known universe”.

OKAY SO THIS IS ACTUALLY MY SPECIAL INTEREST RIGHT NOW AND THE REASON I BEGAN THIS BLOG.
(The following post is by someone with no major disabilities.)
I do not use AAC myself, but I have a lot of interests -coding, art, grammar, education - that made me think, "Huh, these are cool! Let me try."
It took me about two hours of research to realize how dystopian it must be to need one of these to communicate if you don't have money or a support group.
Guys, at its barest bones, AAC is a bunch of buttons that you can press in order. Yes, it is a precisely made piece of technology and symbolsets take years to develop by experts, but here are some professional resources that you can get free open source versions of:
Photoshop
Microsoft Word
PowerPoint
Excel
Sibelius (sheet music transcription) (MuseScore had premium features, however)
Sound editing software (Audacity is hard to compare to the paid alternatives, but it works)
3D modeling software
technical diagram software (some types are easier than others)
The software in freaking John Deer tractors
On the other hand, assistive technology that provides people with a fundamental human right to communicate? Forget it.
There are several open source AAC programs, but none of them are fully featured and free in their published form, as far as I know.
There are several blogs here on Tumblr that take emoji requests for AAC use. Discord has also made it common for people to make emojis to represent every concept under the sun. I'm pretty sure I could construct a full university course, with all materials available in symbol form, doing a deep-dive into the literature of J.R.R. Tolkein or Terry Pratchet using only freely available fan resources. With a little more effort, I could reproduce a textbook about botany or history. What I'm saying is, carving a space for AAC users in passionate communities would be hard - but totally doable.
I really, really want us to come together as a community to make AAC more useful and universally available. And by us, I mean all of us. People. Collectively, we do harder stuff for stupider reasons.
Anyway, I suck at coding. If someone reading this is better at coding and can help, hit me up. There are a couple of AAC programs on Github under the MIT license, so we could start from there.
(And if anyone wants help making symbols for a subject they are trying to teach or learn about, I'd be interested in helping. It would be a good portfolio builder for me.)
all AAC should be completely free forever. no there shouldn't be "free versions of paid AAC apps" i mean like every single feature and option should be free forever and ever. we should not have to pay to communicate.

Why Wellness Apparel Is a Game-Changer for Your Fitness Routine
Tumblr media
Introduction to Wellness Apparel in the Fitness World Wellness apparel is more than just your average gym clothes. Think of it as your workout partner, designed not just to make you look good but to enhance your performance and comfort during exercise. This type of clothing is engineered with materials that wick away sweat, keep you cool or warm depending on your exercise environment, and even reduce odor. What sets wellness apparel apart is its ability to support your body’s movements and, in some cases, improve your form. From compression leggings that promote blood flow to shirts that can track your heart rate, this gear uses technology to take your fitness game to the next level. No wonder more and more people are making the switch. Think of it; if your clothes can make your workout more effective or comfortable, why wouldn’t you try them? Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting out, incorporating wellness apparel into your routine can make a noticeable difference. The Various Types of Wellness Apparel Wellness apparel goes beyond the look. It’s about wearing something that boosts your performance and comfort while you sweat it out. There’re a few types you’ll want to know about. Compression gear is a biggie. This stuff is tight, but in a good way. It’s supposed to increase blood circulation and reduce muscle fatigue. Next up, moisture-wicking clothing. When you’re pushing hard, you’re going to sweat. This gear pulls the sweat away from your skin, helping you stay dry and comfortable. Breathable fabrics are also key. These allow air to flow through, which keeps you from overheating. Then, there are temperature control clothes. Whether it’s keeping you warm on a chilly jog or cool under the sun, these pieces adjust to help regulate your body temp. Lastly, anti-odor technology is something to look out for. It prevents the growth of odor-causing microbes, so you stay fresh longer. Each type plays a role in maximizing your workout. Mix and match based on your needs and the conditions you’re facing. Benefits of Incorporating Wellness Apparel into Your Fitness Routine When you throw on wellness apparel before a workout, you’re not just dressing for the part; you’re giving your fitness routine a serious upgrade. First off, this gear is designed with your performance in mind. Imagine running shorts that reduce chafing, or yoga pants that move seamlessly with you. Sounds good, right? Plus, many of these pieces come with moisture-wicking technology. This means you stay dryer and more comfortable, no matter how intense your workout gets. And let’s not forget about the compression wear. These items are real game-changers. They help improve blood flow, reduce muscle fatigue, and speed up recovery time. So, you can push harder today and be ready to do it all over again tomorrow. Lastly, there’s a mental boost in wearing clothes that make you feel good. When you look in the mirror and see a serious athlete staring back, you’re more likely to act like one. It’s about feeling confident in your journey towards health and fitness. In short, incorporating wellness apparel into your routine is like giving yourself an extra edge. You’ll perform better, recover faster, and even boost your self-esteem. Now, who wouldn’t want that? How Wellness Apparel Can Enhance Your Workout Performance Wellness apparel does more than just make you look good while working out. It’s engineered to boost your performance, comfort, and safety. Let’s start with performance. Materials in fitness clothing today are designed to pull sweat away from your body. This keeps you dry and comfortable, allowing you to focus on pushing harder and longer in your workouts. Now, think about comfort. These clothes fit better because they’re made to move with your body. You won’t find yourself pulling at your shirt during a run or adjusting your pants during yoga. This means you can concentrate on your form and exercise, not on what you’re wearing. Safety is key too. The right gear, like reflective items for night runs or compression wear to support muscles, reduces your risk of injury. In a nutshell, investing in quality wellness apparel is investing in your workout results. You feel better, perform better, and stay safer. The Role of Technology in Wellness Apparel Tech isn’t just for gadgets anymore; it’s revolutionizing your workout wear too. Thanks to smart textiles, your gym clothes can do a lot more than just look good. These innovative fabrics can monitor your heart rate, track your body’s movement, and even measure how much you’re sweating. Imagine wearing a shirt that tells you how hard you’re working out and adjusts to keep your body at the ideal temperature. That’s not future talk; it’s what’s happening right now. Compression wear is another tech feat. It boosts circulation, which can help with muscle recovery and reduce soreness after a workout. So, when you slip into your fitness gear, remember it’s not just fabric covering your body; it’s a high-tech tool designed to enhance your performance and overall wellness. Think of it as having a personal trainer and a physiotherapist built into your clothes. In the world of fitness, where every edge counts, this tech-infused apparel can be a real game-changer. Choosing the Right Wellness Apparel for Your Exercise Needs When it comes to leveling up your workout, wearing the right wellness apparel is crucial. Think of it this way—the clothes you pick can either boost your performance or hold you back. So, what should you look for? First, consider the fabric. You want materials that pull sweat away from your skin and help it evaporate quickly. Cotton, while comfy, can stay wet. On the other hand, synthetic fabrics like polyester are excellent at keeping you dry. Next, think about the fit. Clothes that are too tight can restrict your movement, and too loose can get in the way. Opt for a fit that allows full range of motion. Also, the right gear can prevent injuries. For example, compressive garments support your muscles and reduce the risk of strains. Lastly, don’t forget about the tech features. Some apparel comes with UV protection, odor resistance, and even reflective details for night exercises. By focusing on these aspects, you’ll not only feel good and stay safe during your workouts but also potentially enhance your performance and enjoyment. Caring for Your Wellness Apparel to Ensure Longevity Taking care of your wellness apparel isn’t rocket science, but it sure makes a difference in ensuring they last long and support your fitness journey effectively. First off, always check the care label - that’s your apparel’s diary, telling you exactly what it loves and hates. Mainly, turn your gear inside out before washing. This simple move protects the color and reduces the wear on the fabric. Stick to cold water. Hot water is a big no as it can break down the fibers and fade the color. Avoid fabric softeners; they’re like kryptonite to the stretchiness in your fitness wear. Then there’s the drying game. Air drying is king. It’s gentle, and unlike dryers, it won’t shrink or warp your clothes out of shape. If you must use a dryer, opt for a low or no-heat setting. Remember, high heat is a villain to your apparel’s elasticity. Got stubborn stains or odors? Pre-soak or spot treat them with gentle, natural solutions before you wash. In a nutshell, caring for your wellness apparel might need a bit of your time and attention, but it pays off by extending the life of your clothes, saving you money, and ensuring you look good while hitting your fitness goals. Treat them right, and they’ll be your workout buddies for a long time. Real-Life Success Stories: The Impact of Wellness Apparel People from all walks of life are finding that swapping their regular workout clothes for wellness apparel makes a big difference. Take Jake, for instance, a casual runner who switched to compression leggings. He noticed fewer muscle aches and quicker recovery times almost immediately. Then there’s Maria, a yoga enthusiast. She claims her moisture-wicking yoga pants not only keep her dry and comfortable but also boost her confidence, making her more committed to her practice. Alex, a gym-goer, praises the way his performance shirts help regulate his body temperature, allowing him to focus more on his workout and less on feeling overheated or chilled. These real-life stories highlight how making a simple change in what you wear to exercise can enhance your performance, comfort, and overall dedication to staying active. No fancy equipment needed—just the right gear to help your body perform at its best. Tips for Integrating Wellness Apparel into Your Daily Fitness Regimen To get the most out of your wellness apparel, you don’t need to overhaul your wardrobe overnight. Start small. Swap out that old cotton t-shirt for a moisture-wicking top for your next run. Notice the difference? That’s wellness apparel in action, keeping you dry and comfortable. Next, consider your footwear. A good pair of shoes can change the game, providing the right support for your activity of choice. Be it running, lifting, or yoga, there’s footwear designed to maximize your performance. Now, let’s talk about compression gear. It’s not just for athletes anymore. Adding compression leggings or socks to your outfit can improve circulation and reduce muscle fatigue. This means you can push a bit harder and recover a bit faster. Finally, don’t forget accessories. A breathable hat for outdoor activities or a pair of gloves for those chilly morning runs can make a big difference. Remember, incorporating wellness apparel into your routine is about enhancing your performance and comfort. Start with one piece, feel the improvement, and build from there. You’ll notice your workouts elevating in no time. Conclusion: The Future of Fitness with Wellness Apparel Wellness apparel is not just a trend; it’s revolutionizing the way we approach fitness. By incorporating technology that monitors health metrics and enhances comfort, these clothes are becoming an essential part of our workout routines. As we move forward, the impact of wellness apparel on our fitness journeys is only going to grow. Expect to see more advanced features, from fabric that adjusts to your body temperature to designs that improve posture. With every stitch aimed at boosting your performance and health, wellness apparel is indeed shaping the future of fitness. Investing in these innovative garments isn’t just about looking good; it’s about making every workout count, staying motivated, and reaching your health goals faster. Read the full article
