Telenet Shooting Collection

Telenet was a prolific game developer in the late 1980s and early 1990s, beginning with computers and quickly transitioning into console development. Their focus was often on quantity over quality, with their games often featuring stellar cutscene artwork and excellent music, but typically lacking when it came to the actual game. Their most well-known work is the Valis series in its many incarnations, as well as action games like El Viento and RPGs like Cosmic Fantasy and Arcus. They also published a handful of shoot-em-ups, originally published for the Genesis/Mega Drive and PC Engine, four of which are collected here on the Telenet Shooting Collection. This collection was published by Edia, owner of Telenet’s IP, and crowdfunded on the Japanese site Makuake.

Telenet Shooting Collection II announced for Switch - Gematsu

Edia has announced Telenet Shooting Collection II for Switch, which will include ports of four shoot ’em up games originally developed and released by Telenet Japan. It will launch on August 28 in Japan for 7,480 yen.

The collection will feature the following four titles:

Kiaidan 00 (1992, PC Engine)

Final Zone II (1990, PC Engine)

Browning (1992, PC Engine)

Legion (1990, PC Engine)

In addition to the standard edition, a limited edition will also be available for 14,080 yen, which includes the two-disc soundtrack CD and the official fan book “Telenet Shooting FAN mini” (B6-size, page count to be announced).

Edia teases Tenshi no Uta revival project

Edia has launched a teaser website for a new Telenet revival project, which features artwork with characters from the Tenshi no Uta series.

Tenshi no Uta is an RPG first launched for PC-Engine Super CD-ROM² on October 25, 1991 in Japan. It was followed by sequels Tenshi no Uta II: Datenshi no Sentaku and Tenshi no Uta: Shiroki Tsubasa no Inori.

Edia previously released Telenet Shooting Collection for Switch, which included classic Telenet Japan shoot ’em up games Granada, Avenger, Gaiares, and Psychic Storm.

Telenet Shooting Collection will launch for Switch on June 8 in Japan for 7,480 yen, Edia announced.

A special edition will also be available for 16,280 yen, which includes an original figure of the “Storm Bringer” ship from Psychic Storm.

As previously announced, the collection will feature the following four titles originally developed and released by Telenet Japan:

Granada (November 1990, Genesis)

Avenger (1990, PC Engine)

Gaiares (1990, Genesis)

Psychic Storm (1992, PC Engine)

Each title will have have various additional features such as “Sound Mode,” “Visual Mode,” a rewind feature, and more.
