at only seventeen, xie lian the principal dancer for the national ballet. xie lian danced like water, like the wind, with once-in-a-generation fluidity and grace. he was incredible, and he inspired a generation of dancers, especially young boys, to take up the art.

things turned bad, though. injured dancers (never xie lian, though) faulty flying rigs (never xie lian’s, though). damaged equipment and safety hazards and all manner of things that xie lian notices. he tries to fix them. he’s always too late. rumors start to spread. hadn’t he gotten into an argument with this dancer last week? hadn’t that dancer taken his preferred warmup spot the week before?

when xie lian catches the saboteur, no one believes him. how could they, when he’s blaming the artistic director himself?

it comes to a head on opening night of The Ballad of Wuyong. the show that rocketed the artistic director to fame, back in his performing days. xie lian plays prince wuyong now. he is terrified.

in the second act, one of the lights malfunctions. the artistic director looks him dead in the eyes and grins.

the light falls.

xie lian isn’t injured, of course. he never is when these things happen around him. why would he be, when he’s the one behind it all. that’s what everyone says. the dancers whose careers were ended that night, the theater damaged in the fire, the audience members who feared for their lives. it was xie lian’s fault. he’s been sabotaging the show from the start.

no one believes him. he retires, fading into obscurity. three years later, he teaches ballet in a small town. he knows he will never see the stage again.

hua cheng is a young firebrand with earth-shattering skill. he dances like fire, like the roar of racing blood, like passion incarnate. he is arrogant and cold as a member of the national ballet, and then he starts his own company. still arrogant, still cold, but after two years, he’s proven that his arrogance is well deserved.

he and two friends have written (choreographed and composed??) a ballet. well. they’ve got complete concepts for three. the other one is a work in progress. each is based on an epic that everyone and their mothers had to read parts of in school (a la the odyssey/the iliad). the four famous tales, the tetrad of classical legends that have been the subject of television and film retellings, novelizations and operas. it has been performed as a ballet before. hua cheng will do it better.

he xuan has composed the first three and is working through the fourth. hua cheng has taken on the ambitious role of second lead while assisting yushi huang in her role as artistic (co-) director. the role of the primary lead is vacant. hua cheng is arrogant and stubborn and he will not budge on one point: the role was created for xie lian. if he can’t convince xie lian to return and fill the role, the show will never see the stage.

(the entire creative team is furious with him, but…he pays their bills. he xuan owns his music; if the ballet falls through, he can still take his compositions to stage or write an opera or some shit. hua cheng doesn’t care.)

so hua cheng embarks on a mission to retrieve his ballet idol, the man who inspired him to keep dancing when he was ready to quit, the man whose performances changed his life again and again.

xie lian teaches twelve-year-olds. he hasn’t performed in five years. hua cheng doesn’t care; he can help xl get back into performing shape.

xie lian isn’t familiar with the show. hua cheng laughs, tells him nobody knows the show yet.

xie lian is…xie lian. his reputation is what it is, and after burning his former company to the ground as he did (because maybe it was his fault after all; so many people couldn’t all be wrong. they all agreed, didn’t they? it was his fault), he’s terrified of doing it to someone else’s.

hua cheng doesn’t care. he knows it wasn’t xie lian’s fault. hua cheng was in that show as a fifteen-year-old boy, a part of the corps de ballet at such a young age. xie lian wanted the show to succeed. xie lian bruised and cried and bled for that role. he pricked his fingers darning his flats; he was always first in and last out to rehearsals. he read the ballad of wuyong in an effort to understand his role better. he lost sleep, skipped meals, ran himself ragged for that role. the company spit in his face, shoving all the blame on him instead of investigating properly. hua cheng will not swallow their lies. this role was created for xie lian. he will not have anyone else.

no one has ever defended xie lian like this. no one believed him. his co-stars, his closest friends, his family. but here is this man, so famously skilled that xie lian’s students babble about him in class, more beautiful than the sun and just as bright, saying that he refuses to believe what even xie lian has grown to accept. he is not an ill omen. he is not a curse to the stage.

his students’ final performance of the season is saturday evening. sunday morning, he follows hua cheng to beijing.

HI OMG IM SO SORRY FOR THE VERY LATE REPLY, IVE BEEN VERY BUSY BUT SURE! And since I'm a multishipper, I'll just list my top 5 ships out of fandoms I've been in

FengCui: Feng Xiao x Cui Buqu (Wushuang/Peerless) - The reason I love this ship so much and is my top 1 out of all the shows and books ive read and watched is because I'm so in love with their dynamic, development, and interactions with each other. They first start of as rivals then gradually start to fall for each other with each case they work and time they spent togther. I also loved the fact that the author didn't use stereotypical tropes with the main cp. While its enemies to lovers, to me, it's enemies AND lovers because when they do get together, their dynamic didn't change and they still remained the same. And that's one of the reasons why I love this pair so much.

2. Cezhou: Shen Zechuan x Xiao Chiye (Qiang Jin Jiu/Ballad of Sword and Wine) - I honestly debated if this should be my top 1 but I ultimately decided this would be my top 2 mainly bc I prefer fengcui's dynamic more, But of course, that doesn't make this ship any less great and amazing! In my opinion, this is enemies to lovers with sexual tension done right. I used to hate the trope enemies to lovers because of experience and personal things... But this ship changed my perspective on it a lot. Even though they got together early in the novel, they're still the ship that has the most amazing development and growth I've seen in such as a long time.

3. Hualian: Xie Lian x Hua Cheng (Heaven Official's Blessing) - Ah yes... the classic. I had to put them at my top 3 because TGCF and hualian is what mainly got me into danmei and to this day, I still adore them with all my heart and I'll never ever forget how they made such a huge impact on me... They're like romeo and juliet but done right. They're also the couple that made my standards so unrealistic to the point that I think I'll never ever be able to find someone to love as much as how much they love each other... As much as they're unrealistic, they also made an impact on how I view love in general. I also relate to hua cheng when it comes to appearances because dawg... I am also so insecure of that as well... and when Hua Cheng is insecure about it and Xie Lian is just telling him that he's gorgeous and not ugly like he thinks he is just makes me want to cry because that validation and comforting words is what all of us insecure people need. Just having the reassurance that we're perfect just the way we are...

4. Lucathy: Lucas x Athanasia De Alger Obelia/Athy (Who Made Me a Princess) - I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! Athy is so precious to me and I will protect her at all cost! And I love how their relationship just naturally progresses on the time the spent together and isn't just immediate love at first sight. And I also love how lucas went from "I'm going to watch this bc this is entertaining" to "If you ever hurt her, I'll destroy all of obelia" and bro... LUCAS IS SO WHIPPED FOR ATHY ITS SO FUNNY AHAHAH (Also reminds me on how Xiao Chiye is so whipped for Shen Zechuan but that's another time). And not only that, but I love how Lucas got back from his quest, heard about how Athy got humiliated, bro was like: "Should I kill him?" like bro did not care if it was her father, if someone did shit to her, he would deal with them.

5. LoidYor: Loid Forger x Yor Forger (Spy x Family) - BRO I IMMEDIATELY FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS SHIP!! Assassin x Spy? OH HELL YEA! I've honestly been waiting for this kind of trope for such a long time lol. Not only that, but I low how yor is such a girlboss and protects her family even if it isn't real. I honestly really like their progression so far and I hope that they honestly become a family in the end... I have nothing really much to say about this ship because I haven't been keeping up with SXF but I really love them and they're trope because I haven't seen Assassin x Spy trope in fandoms I've been in.

Favorite BL Manhua

This beginning of year I feel like trying to make a list of my favorite BL. I've been reading more these past years, specially manhwa and manhua (I used to read manga only for BL, for several years before I started to read another).

My history of reading BL manhua began with 19 Days. I saw their illustrations popped up pretty often and I was getting more and more interested to read it. I really like 19 Days a lot~!! I was wondering is there another BL manhua I would be interested to read. For some months, after I caught up with 19 Days' latest update (at that time), I saw Mo Dao Zu Shi's illustrations pretty often. It seems to be a very popular danmei (it is), their drama series adaptation also a huge hit. Then, I tried to read its manhua adaptation first, before trying to read its danmei/watch the series. MDZS catches my heart quite deep, after that I checked more BL manhua, specially danmei adaptations. Last year, I couldn't manage my time well to be able to read some danmei >_< I wish I can read more starting this year, there are several danmei that I really want to read as soon as possible.

I tried to pick 17 (+1) titles here~

1. 19天 19 Tian / 19 Days by Old Xian (old先)

I really adore these 4!! He Tian, Mo Guanshan, Zhan Zhengxi, Jian Yi ♥♥♥♥ I love TianShan a lot but, I like it most when four of them are together. They are very endearing, their funny moments always brighten up my night after I read it. He Cheng and Brother Qiu also very exciting to see/read when they're together. It's a long series but I want to reread it whenever I can~!

2. 小蘑菇 Xiǎo Mó Gu / Little Mushroom by Shisi (一十四洲), art by Mao Mao Tou (猫猫头)

This is really an interesting read and the manhua adaptation has beautiful visuals. I really like visuals of Lu Feng and An Ze and their chibis are very cute. I usually not into science fiction and/or apocalyptic stories, but maybe because I really like both main characters (Lu Feng An Ze ♥♥) and their interesting world-building, they make me want to keep reading. At the time I posted this I haven't properly read the novel yet, it's on number one position of BL-novels-that-I-want-to-read-soon list.

3. 撒野 Sā Yě / Run Freely by Wu Zhe (巫哲)

SaYe is precious, it's so heartfelt. I really adore Gu Fei and Jiang Cheng ♥♥ Gu Miao also adorable~ They are lovable and as they grow up, we learn together about their own selves and how they live. Their characters development, their very equal relationship, very nice balance they have between them. I really hope any adaptations of this story would be proper and great.

4. 将进酒 Qiang Jin Jiu / Ballad of Sword and Wine by Tang Jiuqing (唐酒卿)

At the time I posted this I haven't properly read the novel yet (it's on number two position of BL-novels-that-I-want-to-read-soon list), but from some spoilers this sounds like the type I would really like. Their sexual tension, enemy to lovers that have truly exciting dynamic. Both are equally powerful and their interactions make me want more. I also really like their visuals. Hopefully the manhua will adapt the novel very well. Xiao Chiye and Shen Zechuan ♥♥

5. 魔道祖师 Mó Dào Zǔ Shī / Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (墨香铜臭)

This is the first danmei adaptation I tried to read and the beginning of my interest in danmei. I didn't expect I would be that hooked that I spent hours continuously reading this for days. It's so heart-wrenching yet beautiful, even the side characters' stories also heartbreaking. Wei Ying/ Wei Wuxian's life so tragic I think I cried quite a lot (it's quite a long while ago, my memory's blurry but I remember it hurts). Lan Zhan and Wei Ying ♥♥ Their interactions are so lovable, the dynamic between them is one of a couple/pairing's dynamic types I like a lot.

5. 天官赐福 Tiān Guān Cì Fú / Heaven Official's Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (墨香铜臭), art by STARember

TGCF's manhua art/visual is soo pretty, soo beautiful~! I really like Hua Cheng and Xie Lian a lot ♥♥ Their interactions, their heartfelt love story. I haven't read everything (of TGCF) yet I'm not sure which one I like more, I put MDZS first here since I finished that manhua. I have a bit feeling that I might like TGCF more later (for a moment I put them both on number 5 here).

7. 全球高考 Quan Qiu Gao Kao / Global Examination by Mu Su Li (木苏里)

Global Examination is so interesting~ It feels fresh/new for me to read this kind of story, but the biggest force that makes me excited to keep reading is two charming main characters~! Qin Jiu and You Huo ♥♥ I really like their dynamic, feels like my heart jumping in joy and excitement when their romance appears (I want more~~). I like their visuals a lot too.

8. 犬大欺主 Quǎn Dà Qī Zhǔ / The Grown Dog Bullies Its Owner by Ruo Li, art by Zu Zhuan Jiu San

This is very adorable and enjoyable to read, also it's pretty~! Lin Lang and Xia Zhixing are so lovely and the second couple also very cute ♥♥ I equally enjoy reading both couples (which doesn't happen often). This one probably my most favorite in gamer setting BL.

9. 我嗑了对家X我的CP Wo Ke Le Dui Jia x Wo de CP / I Ship My Rival x Me by Pepa, art by Qualia

They're very adorable together~ I usually not that interested in showbiz setting (main couple here are actors) but I like this one. It's a light, fun, and cute read. That Yiliang's Diary part is amusing >w<

10. Jīng Jiǔ 经久 / Salad Days by Jing Shuibian 静水边, art by Tang LiuZang

Salad Days is so wholesome~! It's a great journey reading main couple relationship grows from childhood, teens to adults. They also have supporting side characters around them that makes this story is so heartwarming (there's very sad side chara background story though, I also cried when Song Xin helped Shen at that crucial time ; ; kind pretty soul). Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi are so lovely together ♥♥

11. 解药 Jie Yao / Antidote by Wu Zhe

This probably the first Chinese BL I read which one of main characters has mental illness. The development of Jiang YuDuo and Cheng Ke relationship is very nice and interesting to see. I enjoy watching pairs that both sides feel equal (physically and character/personality-wise), this is one of them~

12. 貔貅饭馆，只进不出 Pi Xiu Fan Guan, Zhi Jin Bu Chu / Pixiu's Eatery, No Way Out by Hai Jingluo (海鶄落), art by Jiu Aoao

I thought this one would be an adorable fun light read at first, but it also has some touching moments. It's very enjoyable to read, entertaining and lovely. I really like Chinese mythology touch in this story. Pixiu and Wen Xi are so lovely ♥♥

13. 伪装学渣 Wei Zhuang Xue Zha / Fake Slackers by Mu Guahuang (木瓜黄), art by C7

I first attracted with this because of their visuals. Actually I'm not interested in reading high school romance anymore (except the funny one) but as I tried reading this, I like their dynamic a lot~! It's fun, lovely, enjoyable, they're so adorable. He Zhao and Xie Yu ♥♥

14. 这题超纲了 Zhe Ti Chao Gang Le / Beyond The Outline by Mu Guahuang (木瓜黄), art by JiJing Jun

I tried reading this because it's the same author from Fake Slackers (shared universe), it's pretty fun, lovely and enjoyable. Shao Zhan and Xu Sheng are cute~~

15. 迪奥先生 Dí'ào xiānshēng / Mr. Dior by Lu Ye Qian He (绿野千鹤)

This one is very funny light read~! It shows various tropes in BL, while they go through those roles they also learn more about each other and deepen their lovely relationship. I think it's the first BL manhua I read which the main couple is married.

16. 破云 Po Yun / Breaking Through the Clouds by Huai Shang (淮上)

I wish they would have adapted everything in manhua and not cut it a lot like that ;_; But since I like them I put this one on this list too. I usually enjoy reading mystery and this one is interesting. Though I don't enjoy the imposition of hetero dynamic there, Jiang Ting and Yan Xie, both as characters and as a couple, are nice.

破云2吞海 Po Yun 2: Tun Hai / Breaking Through the Clouds 2: Swallowing the Seas by Huai Shang (淮上)

I put this one here too since it's Poyun's sequel and it feels like they are one package (?). I feel that Jiang Ting and Yan Xie are more endearing but Wu Yu and Bu ChongHua are pretty nice too. I like when both couples interact~

17. 二哈和他的白猫师尊 Èr Hā Hé Tā De Bái Māo Shī Zūn / 2ha / The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by Meatbun Doesn't Eat Meat (肉包不吃肉)

I haven't read this danmei yet, from spoilers it seems this one filled with a lot of angst. Though it seems very heart-wrenching, specially the past lifetime (and second timeline?), it's interesting and 2 main characters interactions are fun to see/read. Hopefully they will adapt everything till the end, I enjoy their visuals. I'm excited to enjoy Chu Wanning and Mo Ran moments in manhua.

haiiiiii hm well to say i don't would be a lie but truly i am very mainstream with the danmei i read so i doubt you haven't read them before

all of mxtx's stuff is really good and worth a try but tgcf is always going to be my favorite. there's a new revised version out by now i am pretty sure which is all the more reason to check it out. the plot beats are clever, xie lian is one of the most compelling main characters ever written, but i think the worldbuilding is what makes it so good. you can tell it was crafted very lovingly and the cultural aspects make it twice as interesting! hua cheng is also very jean-coded to me

i think mdzs needs no introduction but if you're into more somber stories it will definitely please you, the political intrigue is well written and all character dynamics are very compelling. i reread mdzs every few months and i always come out of it obsessed with a new character so i feel like, if you're coming from aftg, it will be the smoothest transition. that being said wangxian are VERY into cnc and i know it can be an issue for some people so i would suggest avoiding the extra if it's a total turn off for you. if it's no issue, i'd also say that if you read mdzs and end up not liking jin ling you will no longer be welcome in my page

qiang jin jiu/ballad of sword and wine is one of my favorites but it is VERY extensive and it goes really deeply into politics, so it might not be everyone's cup of tea. the main characters are truly nasty to each other at first but their relationship develops into one of my favorite dynamics i've ever read, and their scenes together are pretty sweet and intimate. this novel also has a canonical lesbian couple in the bg, though i am pretty sure you only get more information on that in the extras, which is always nice :) again i am repeating that this one is famously heavy on the politics so be aware of that! also some pretty graphic scenes of gore torture and abuse

2ha/dumb husky and his white cat shizun is good but i will say that meatbun's specialty is not plot and you can tell. if you're reading 2ha you're most likely reading it for the character dynamics and the worldbuilding, which are always amazing, but the plot is convoluted and in desperate need of some heavier editing. yuwu/remnants of filth suffers from a similar fate but has the essential flaw of not having chu wanning in it so i don't recommend it as much, BUT there are two characters who are kevriko in another world for sure

i think that is all? i picked up stars of chaos recently for the milfisms and i do plan to finish it eventually but i can't say for sure if it's good yet

It's been a while...

It's been a while since I've been on Tumblr, but I wanted an easy platform to update interact with my readers and I'm familiar with Tumblr though it's been a while. Figured I start new. Currently working on stories on AO3, and updating as I go. Planning on putting some previews up here, talk about some new projects I've got going on. I do have some Yuri On Ice Fics that have been on long hiatuses and I do plan on updating them as I go along, but right now my current fandoms are based on Chinese Danmei. I've got three active stories in the MDZS fandom and one in development from the TGCF fandom. Feel free to leave me a comment and share. The Ballad of Butterflies and Blessings/The Dance of Sabers and Arrows. (TGCF - A/B/O AU) Takes place after Hua Cheng returns to Xie Lian at the end of the novel. First part will be Hua Cheng and Xie Lian finally getting together. Second story will be Feng Xin An Mu Qing

But my mum used to read from a Winnie The Pooh book when I was small and there was this poem in there about Piglet going on vacation and going to England and France and Africa and all... As the song ends you hear a light giggle. A man in a snow-white robe, sitting just in front of you, leans closer to his companion - a man donning expensive red - whispering something into his ear.

The other man chuckles, before tossing some coin to the minstrel, as both of them get up to leave.

Having thoughts about what Kpop groups mxtx + 2ha characters would stan here’s my unhinged thoughts:

Junior quartet: BTS, twice, blackpink, and seventeen

Hua Cheng: blackpink, red velvet and dreamcatcher

Xie Lian: doesn’t know what Kpop is but listens to whatever Hua Cheng plays (but also likes DAY6 and BTS)

Shang Qinghua: twice, Astro, and ace

Questions of right and wrong are as dangerous as a knife's edge, and will leave wounds

*note: the title & lyrics can be interpreted either as “The Ballad of Lian & Cheng”, referring to hualian in general, or “Ballad of Love for (Hua) Cheng”, written from XL’s pov specifically

(Translation Notes:)

(1) this verse can be read as either describing the 800 years HC spent waiting/searching for XL, or the year XL spent waiting for HC in ch 243, hence the line “that stubborn gaze, who is the one who waits?” (XL waiting for HC is paralleled to HC waiting for XL)

(2) this line can either refer to HC wanting to further strengthen his faith for his god XL, or XL wanting to further strengthen his own faith in HC

(3) this line refers to how XL and HC’s connection runs deeper than their fleeting interactions in the past, and now that they have found each other again, the centuries of striving that both of them went through can finally be put behind them in the past, becoming the dust of old

(4) this line references the Star of Solitude, which is the star that HC was born under that cursed him with a terrible fate bringing great misfortune to everyone around him

Lu Han's voice is so stunning and it fits the beautiful scenes of Hualian so well 😭😭😭 I'm so excited for season 2!!!!!!!! The Ballad of Lian and Cheng is my new favourite song 🥺🦋💖
