Excerpts and thoughts under the cut
vol.1:
"In those days, a crimson moon shone down upon the subterranean realm, and not the dark sun of latter days."
Something something Eclypse dynasty.
Due to the Kingdom's unique position, things from outside this world were always leaking into it. The Kingdom's weapons would wipe out the calamities slipping in, but what of all the other objects? Such as, say, a child who may have come from some destroyed world?
What the hell what the hell what the hell
"Oh high lord of the nobles, a child once told me a tale of another world: Once upon a time, there were sea people who believed that the gods came from the sea. Each time they discovered a shipwrecked person, they would treat them with the utmost honor, for they believed that the gods would take the form of the shipwrecked to investigate the mortal realm."
I can't connect it with anything but I feel it's important. Parsifal's and Skipper's story mention a shipwreck. Two, actually. In some sense the twins are shipwrecked and Paimon was fished out of the sea.
The ocean and the sea were often used as a metaphor for the space projected by the stars.
Why sea and Abyss get conflated with it sometimes: Khaenri'ans were more familiar with the Abyssal stars than the sea.
In anticipation of the arrival at their Kingdom of gods from beyond the so-called ocean ā or rather, the arrival of beings who could transcend the gods ā they founded an organization, an orphanage to take care of such children. In latter days, the orphans of the Kingdom and those who wandered in from outside were accepted as well.
Everything fun in Teyvat is made by kids in orphanages.
The young Perinheri's first memory was that of being asked by the grown-ups to crawl through a dark corridor. This passage might have been a chimney for winter fires, for it was filled with coal ash, and there was not a single crack in it through which smoke or light could pass through. As he crawled, he would sometimes stumble in the pitch-black darkness. Fortunately, the corridor appeared designed for the passage of children in the first place, so the falls were not very painful. It also lacked any annoying cobwebs. When Perinheri reached the end at last, the exit had not opened yet. He knocked, only for the grown-ups to coldly ask: "Are you dead?" Well, how was he to reply if he was dead? But the grown-ups did not like this response. They kept asking the same question, until he at least shouted, "Yes, I'm dead!" The adults then asked, "Did you see it, then?" Perhaps it was the fear brought on by the darkness combined with hunger and exhaustion, but Perinheri did indeed see an illusion. The crimson moon, hanging high in the pitch-dark night sky, suddenly turned around, revealing itself to be a titanic, horrified eye. The adults opened the door and embraced the soot-covered Perinheri: "You have traversed the fire of two worlds within the hearth, and here you are reborn."
Moons being goddesses' corpses, the fake sky, whales, the rebirth ritual in the narcissenkreuz notes. Again, I can't connect it.
Though the crimson moon set, and the dark sun descended into a yet darker dusk, that transcendental person from beyond who the Kingdom orphanage was awaiting never arrived. But unusual individuals they had aplenty, and many of those who strode forth from the gates of that orphanage became great knights of the Kingdom. Perinheri was, in his time, the leading figure amongst their ranks ā that is, unless, he were forced to compete with his best friend, Hleobrant.
tl;dr: Khaenri'ah casually welcomed travelers from between worlds, visitors from dead worlds especially. or at least hoped to but didn't get many

I read a bunch of comics and graphic novels in December with a little romance, lit fic, sci fi, and fantasy mixed in. It's difficult to pick favorites because everything I finished was pretty good but I choose Erasure, Ashwin, The Hunger and the Dusk, and Family Style. I own Role Playing but (comfort reread) listened to the eaudio via KU, and also own Erasure. Wild Pitch was on KU as was Consort of Fire, which I listened to, and everything else was from either Hoopla or Libby. Ā

The Hunger and the Dusk, Vol. 1
The Hunger and the Dusk, Vol. 1, by G. Willow Wilson, Chris Wildgoose, and Michele Assarasakorn I like a good fantasy comic as much as the next person but frequently they follow the same patterns without really adding much to the larger body of work. Not so here, where our human vs orc conflict is complicated by a common enemy. The solution? An aloof course. While thereās plenty of action, theā¦

Okay, starting list of titles borrowed to read/sample :-
The Old Guard vol 1, 2 & the prequel (I know! I have been meaning to get to this)
The Forged (#1-3)
Lazarus (#1-9)
The Hunger and the Dusk (#1-6)
The Autumnlands (#1-6)
The Many Deaths of Laila Starr (#1-5)
Got a few ideas of more to add once my limit resets on Tuesday, and bookmarked them to borrow (I was reminded that Black Widow exists and I've been meaning to read more of her when it has good art)
Also tested the flight mode version of DCUI and it's more functional than I was worried it might be.
A combination of āmy borrowing privileges reset at the start of every month for some digital library platformsā and āIām travelling internationally on holidays early in Julyā mean that Iām currently scouring through Hoopla for various comic titles to read on the plane that arenāt DC ones that Iāve been meaning to get to.
Me, paging through what Greg Rucka stuff I havenāt read yet, nodding to myselfā¦
(Recs appreciated. I CAN just download a bunch of stuff for DCUI, and I will do that, but also given I need offline reading I might as well pick up a bunch of options on various platforms)

March Reading Wrap-Up
I read a lot this month, but most of it was Graphic novels/Manga so those are real quick reads.
Reviews linked to my GR reviews.Ā
Tokyo Ghoul Vol. 1-5-Iāve had these on my shelves for a while and finally got into it! I really liked it and im excited to continue. 1 2 3 4 5
Our Dreams at Dusk Vol. 1-4: If you are not character driven do not read this. This series is v character driven and I enjoyed reading a story about LGBT characters and seeing their lives. Kamataniās work is amazing. I think this is my favorite read for the month. 1 2 3 4Ā
Bride of the Water God Vol. 1-I didnāt care for this and I felt it romantizes a lot of shitty things. I donāt know maybe it wasnāt for me.Ā
Legend of the Fire Princess(She-ra Graphic Novel): This was just bad. I didnāt like it all.
MockingJay(Hunger Games #3): I finally finished the Hunger games trilogy! I really liked it. I felt like it was a good end and I can see why it caused the great trend of great dystopians.Ā
How Saeter Robbed the Underworld:Ā this was a short novella that was only availble on Ereaders. I am not a fan of ereading personally. BUT...this was really good and I cried. Katz did a good job of manipulating emotion.Ā
The Seventh Bride: I loved this book! I enjoyed all the themes and most of the characters. Kingfisherās writing style is also super fun.
The Player of Games(Culture #2)-I hated this in the beginning and never liked the MC. At the end of this book I did end up actually liking it. It was pretty good. The Drones were my favorite. I donāt read a lot of sci-fi and I was glad to take a dive. Also this was my book club pick of the month.Ā
Monster and the Beast Vol. 1-3-Listen this is kind of trash, but itās erotica and its fun, not good but fun.Ā 1 2 3
Yotsuba&! Vol. 1-I read this at a bad place and it was v stressful waiting for news at a friends. It was funny enough to make me smile.Ā
Son of the Storm-I won the ARC of this from a GR giveaway. I thoroughly enjoyed this and think itās one of my favorite reads of this year. The world was amazing.Ā
Womenās War-I used this for the prompt recommended you by a librarian. This one is not pictured because I foolishly thought I wouldnāt finish it within March and finished it on the last day of March. Itās a fantasy set in a society that highly oppresses women and Women who donāt perform properly get sent to government funded brothels.

Treat yourself, a crush or a lover with this lush gift!
source and amazon buy link. Ā
I will be providing select short, sometimes edited, poems for a texting/āsextingā meme, but not the whole book itself. Ā If you enjoy the poems provided, please support the collection whether itās the first volume or the second. Ā Or look into the works of the various contributors and see if anything else theyāve written is to your liking! Ā
Feel free to add to and/or edit these sentences to better suit your needs---but remember, many of these work best in the context of texts and/or love notes instead of spoken dialogue. Ā Ā ---Lizzy. Ā
Mark me like a passage from your favorite book, then open me there again and again.
My skin is full of flowerbeds and you know every way to make them bloom.
I am tracing the knobs of your spine like the map of my favorite continent. You are all the places I haven't visited yet and I mark each one off with my teeth.
Your hands unzip me one breath at a time; there is not room beneath my skin for all of you and I spill over the edges with a sigh.
You take apart my heart in pieces with your mouth, but the splash of your tongue against mine feeds it back to me. It tastes sweeter coming from you.
You opened your mouth and spoke the language in my blood.
You kiss me and there aren't sparks. Thereās an entire orchestra in my chest, playing staccato on my heart strings.
My hands are nomads, my dear desert. May they never find rest.
Being small things, we understand this as our humble attempt at thunder, at setting the world to shake.
Delicate work. Like peeling kiwis. My tongue across your skin. Mellow flesh against my lips. Your taste always in my mouth.
How a storms needs to feel the earth how the earth wakes to the pelt of rain how the ground is quenched is how I need you...Ā
My hands were glaciers I never dared to move freely, my fingers icicles. Your touch thawed me to excavation. I want to dig into your warmth.
Kiss me like white bread, stick to my teeth even after the whiskey. I want memories of your mouth lodged beneath my tongue to wake me at two in the morning, hungry.
I want you next to me, in my bed, your clothes making friends with my floor. Love me hard enough so we wake up the neighbors.
Your hands peeling that onion, thumbs and forefingers pulling skin from skināthey are sacred. Let me kiss them. Let them bless my sinning chest, let them peel my lips apart.
I don't want to be your harmonies anymore; I want to be the melody you scream when your heart is starving for love. I want to satisfy your hunger.
Show me the parts of you that nobody else ever wanted to sleep with. Show me it all with the lights on.
You, darling, are Vesuvius. I wonāt see you coming. Erupt. Wreck me. Leave me ashes leave me Pompeii, leave me outlined into your history forever.
It's not so much that I want to kiss you. I want to relearn vocabulary words from the shape of your mouth. All my poems are yours first.
Kiss me blossoms in the summer, lover. I want to taste the succulent sweet of your peach tree smile. This time let Adam take the fruit from the garden.
Surge into me as a downpour, as the pounding waterfall which makes swollen rivers flood, as the sea.
The happy ending to this night: you tug my hair and lightly brush your hand across my lap. Donāt forget how resilient I am and how I would bend for you.
Even my lungs are in love as we breathe together.
I donāt just want to take your breath away. I want to rip it from your mouth and keep it locked away between my teeth. You can only have it back if you kiss me again.
The gentle friction of your hand on my thigh is enough to strike a match inside me. I lean into your lips and the fire blooms and spreads.
You are an undiscovered continent. I trail my fingers down your mountainsides. Ten explorers digging for buried treasure, I want to take it all.
My body is a gospel and you are my first quivering hallelujah. Your breath leaves your mouth like a prayer and washes over me like faith.
My hands are hungry for your flesh, desperate in the way that rivers empty themselves over waterfalls.
I peel back your skin to see if we have the same scars. I follow the map of your veins back to your heart and press my palm against yours to tangle our lifelines.
I hope to breathe in you. I hope my body will be the blood your roots drink.
We commit sins in holy places, fold ourselves between pews like dirty pictures tucked into a bible. Pant each otherās names until they sound like scripture.
My tongue collides with your collarbone like a meteor careening across the cosmos, and I taste the stars you are made of.
You kiss me with your mouth wide open like youāre not afraid of swallowing poison. I taste the good and bad in you and want them both. We call this bravery.
You, benevolent god, legs splayed like instruments of creation. I, blank slate of the universe, kneel in wait for you to fill me with your hot, honeyed light.
My hands are suntanned tourists without a map whose desire compels them onward to explore your golden cities by the light of the stars.
The moment between your thighs where I become a devout follower of your existence. That hour which passes in slow seconds of soft skin, as I lay my head against you, drifting, drowsy with love.
Your grin is a flash of primal fire in the dark. Somewhere deep inside me, something hungry wakens and shifts, uncurls its insatiable tongue.
I have been thinking of how I want to be touched by you, with hands that will play me like piano keys, with fingers that will make a symphony out of me.
You till the soil of my need, my lips a blood-red flower bursting open with the first wet flush of your heat.
When it comes right down to it, all that nonsense about hearts syncing up feels like a hallelujah with our bodies pressed together like praying hands.
Every time, you peel back my skin, pry open my ribs, and feast on my insides. Every time, you make a meal of my heart, and every time, I let you.
Youāre not one for poetry or sentimentality, so Iāll just say that Iāve dreamt of being the motor oil trapped in the grooves of your weathered hands.
I ache for your hum between my legs, the purring of motorcycles on winding highways: wind in my hair, and romance in losing myself to the sweet, revving vibration of the engine again and again.
You smile and itās like sunrise. Something inside me Wakes up, stretching.
I float away in cool sheets against my burning skin, and you are the sea guiding me beyond the realm of earthly things.
My lipstick spills over your mouth and trickles down to your chin, your neck, pooling into your collarbones. We love like crushed grapes in wine country.
You're kissing a wildfire up my thigh and I am tracing the landscape of your jawbone like a sculptor. My hands were made for this.
The rush you give me: The way a blade of grass must feel when splashed with a cloudās cry after days of screaming for rain.
We are the fall of Rome, all fire and fighting. We collapse into each other like the pieces of the Parthenon, kissing like gladiators, loving like rebuilding.
You creep into my head like a river rushing for the sea & a cosmic digit of fingertips flash over me.
You are pressing against me like I press flowers against the pages in my book. You are kissing my neck and it feels like the start of forever. I want to touch you until my palms burn.
The wet of your mouth rains down my neck like frame, the soft heat of your tongue burns the apple in my throat. We are practiced at this love that asks angels to cover their eyes and turns devils shy.
I melt into the gentleness of your fingertips. Your tongue presses me open like the summer fresh flesh of a perfectly ripe fig, all juice, seeds and pulp.
The small of your back is refuge, is veldt, is summer heat. And I am predatory snarl.
I can't brush out the taste of you; coffee breath, cigarette smoke, and all. Mouth to mouth; Our shared vices linger on each other. Your salt still lives in my tongue.
I'll take you quiet as the bones in your closet, love as softly as a whisper. Holding your tongue like a secret.
You smiled and lit up like the dusk. I sank to your lips like the sun against the horizon. We made the day stand still.
I want to kiss you until you melt into me, ice turning to water. I want to drink you deep, and warm you from the inside.

Eighteen Glee soundtracks reached # 1 - more than three times more than any other franchise. Frozen is hot melted. In fact, it's the best franchise in the history of Billboardthe soundtrack table (which dates from June 2001). The original Frozen the soundtrack has exceeded this table for 44 weeks - longer than any other soundtrack (whether from a franchise or not) - and Frozen II is in its 21st week at the top, the longest series of soundtracks in a suite. This combined total of 65 weeks at # 1 is more than the combined total for any other franchise in the history of the chart. FrozenThe advance is particularly impressive because it only has two albums. The next four franchises on this list reflect the combined strength of three or more # 1 soundtracks. This list does not include individual soundtrack albums, even if they were long at # 1, such as O brother, where are you (34 weeks at No. 1) and The Greatest Showman (32 weeks). I started August on a roll, enjoying every book listed below up to and including T. Kingfisher then had to DNF three new releases that didn't work for me. I was able to get back on track with the help of Elizabeth Hoyt and the incredible, unhinged Duke of Sin, Valentine Napier and after that, it was all good again. I'm off Kindle Unlimited again so everything came from Hoopla and Libby except for What is Love?, which I got free through Prime First Reads, and the super cute and sexy A Walk in the Park, which I listened to with a brief Audible trial.
Looking at my stats, my average time to read is skewed because I started What is Love? in April and just now finished it. It was fine but I kept having to stop because the FMC was giving too much Nadia from Russian Doll and it was taking me out of the story. I'm eagerly looking forward to StoryGraph implementing a pause feature for books you want to leave on hold instead of DNFing.
The Bound Worlds (The Devoured Worlds #3) - Megan E. O'Keefe
A Walk in the Park - Rebekah Weatherspoon* **
The Cull Vol 1 (The Cull #1-5) - Kelly Thompson, Mattia De Iulis**
The Earl's Mistress (MacLachlan Family & Friends #10) - Liz Carlyle
Queen of Dreams (Bound to Fire & Steel #2) - Kit Rocha
The Dead Cat Tail Assassins - P. DjĆØlĆ Clark* **
A Sorceress Comes to Call - T. Kingfisher
Duke of Sin (Maiden Lane #10) - Elizabeth Hoyt
Wicked Intentions (Maiden Lane #1) - Elizabeth Hoyt
Notorious Pleasures (Maiden Lane #2) - Elizabeth Hoyt
Sharing Shane - Hannah Murray
Saga #68 - Brian K. Vaughan, Fiona Staples
The Hunger and the Dusk: Book Two #2 (The Hunger and the Dusk 2.2) - G. Willow Wilson, Chris Wildgoose
Second Chances in New Port Stephen - TJ Alexander**
Scandalous Desires (Maiden Lane #3) - Elizabeth Hoyt
What is Love? - Jen Comfort

Storygraph's new monthly wrap-up graphic is here! There's also a monthly view with ratings but I stuck with the cover only view since don't rate everything.
July was another mostly stellar reading month with many more of my anticipated new releases. Saga and The Hunger and the Dust returned! Chuck Tingle, Stephen Graham Jones, and Paul Tremblay knocked it out of the horror park. Cathy Yardley gave me more actual 40+ year old adults falling in love and Adriana Anders brought some serious both over 30 OWYM breeding kink heat. Once Bitten was so good that I forgive the cliffhanger ending and now I'll just have to read the rest of Heather's backlist while I (im)patiently wait for Twice Shy. Everything was from Hoopla or Libby except for Hot Blooded, Well Bred, Do Me a Favor, and Once Bitten, which were KU. Here's everything in chronological reading order:
A Shore Thing - Joanna Lowell
Hot Blooded (Tooth & Claw #2) - Heather Guerre
The Partner Plot (Greene Sisters #2) - Kristina Forest* **
The Hunger and the Dusk: Book Two #1 (The Hunger and the Dusk 2.1) - G. Willow Wilson
Bury Your Gays - Chuck Tingle
Well Bred - Adriana Anders
Pink Slime - Fernanda TrĆas
Do Me a Favor - Cathy Yardley* **
I Was a Teenage Slasher - Stephen Graham Jones*
Books & Broadswords Vol. 1 (Books & Broadswords #1) - Jessie Mihalik
Horror Movie - Paul Tremblay
Once Bitten (Tooth & Claw #3) - Heather Guerre
Roaming - Jillian Tamaki, Mariko Tamaki* **
Saga #67 - Brian K. Vaughan, Fiona Staples
This One Summer - Jillian Tamaki, Mariko Tamaki*

I was really excited to read The Hunger And The Dusk, Vol. 1. Iāll be the first to admit that fantasy with orcs and everything isnāt always my jam, but this story looked really cool
And, I am very happy to say that I was not let down. I canāt wait to read more!
The world is The Hunger And The Dusk sets the humans and orcs as historical enemies who have to come together to fight an even bigger enemy. The humans are leaderless and hapless. The proud and regal orcs are facing a good shortage unless they conquer or partner with the humans.
The story is a romance, and Iām here for it. The human mercenary leader Callum Battlechild and the orc healer Gruakhtar āTaraā Icemane are going to fall in love before our very eyes, and weāre going to enjoy it.
The Vangol were righteous and scary. They left the lands currently occupied by the humans and orcs and have now returned with a bloodlust. Right? Thereās nothing more to the story, right?
Just kidding. There very clearly is something else going on here, and I canāt wait to find out more.
I really liked this book. The setting is familiar but different. The characters and story are intriguing and, almost, species-swapped. And the artwork is gorgeous. G. Willow Wilson and Chris Wildgoose killed it. I canāt wait for more.
Thank you Netgalley and IDW Publishing for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
