Upon finding myself in the midst of hyperfixating on Looney Tunes thanks to my bestie @shrimpuufriend, I noticed that there's a distinct lack of sheep characters throughout the series' multi-show run.

I remember you saying a lot of the characters you'd written for had a common theme of loneliness, is there any common theme between the pairings you like or is it just purely "the chemistry is good" ?

there are sooo many pairings with "good chemistry" that totally bore me lmao. no, i've got specific preferences.

Here's one very very specific ship dynamic that I almost always gravitate toward:

Enter a fandom. Find the most powerful villain (or villain-acting character) in this fandom. They must be completely OP, absolutely self-assured in their power and supremacy, all but unbeatable (unless it's by like the plucky hero or whatever). They are smug. They are confident. Their tag is probably filled with reader insert fics with plots like "y/n is dommed by [character] and calls him daddy." This is the Badass.

Find another character. This character is comparatively pathetic. Oftentimes, the fandom joke is that they could never win a fight. If the fandom isn't loudly proclaiming that this second character would get their ass handed to them by, specifically, the Badass, then it's only because the two of them are on SUCH different power levels that the idea of a fight never enters fans' minds. They may or may not actually be a wimp, but what matters is the fandom (and often, the narrative) sees them that way—at least when compared to the Badass, if not universally. This is the Loser.

Then have the Badass get kneecapped with love for the Loser.

They've gotta fall in love in a way that completely destroys them. It makes them fall from grace. It strips away their godhood. It topples their empire. It steals their power, their prestige, their dignity, their confidence, their sanity. It ruins their life.

The Badass would give up everything for a chance to crawl like a worm at the feet of their beloved Loser. They submit themself entirely to the Loser's will. They are but a sword, a toy, a dog, a piece of trash—whatever they need to lower themself to to be allowed to bask in the Loser's light.

The Loser might not even reciprocate.

This is a difficult ship dynamic to be into because even when the fandom DOES ship Badass/Loser, every one of the fics is like "Loser is dommed by Badass and calls him daddy" and I recoil in disgust.

And here's some other ship dynamics I'm into—borrowed from a couple of prior asks I've gotten here and here so if you wanna see me ramble EVEN MORE, I go more in depth in those two links.

the biggest thing that gets me into a ship is unhealthy obsession. Love to the point of self-destruction. Love past the point of all reason. Love like an addiction, love like a poison.

Forms this takes can include:

a worshiper toward their (personal) god. bonus points if the "god" isn't even that great, the divinity just exists in the worshiper's mind and the "god" kinda sucks (billford's a good example; I actually usually prefer the obsession going the other way around, but there's definitely still shades of this in how I write Ford's POV on Bill)

mutual rabidly codependent toxic obsession (example: comics Venom.)

"knight" obsessively in love with their liege. (canon example: Pearl toward Rose Quartz. headcanon example: Zim toward the Tallest. this is gonna be how i write Scaramouche toward Aku.) This can be extended to ships with similar power dynamics like henchman/villain.

your classic yandere. "I love you so much I had to kidnap you," "stay with me and I'll make you sososo happy, leave and I'll kill us both," "I will proactively murder anyone who likes you before you can like them back," "I will rewrite my entire identity to be perfect for you," "I'm so breathlessly euphoric with love for you that I kind of want to slit my own throat" yandere-yandere. (THE yandere: Yuno Gasai. a personal favorite: IDW Tarantulas toward Prowl.)

perpetually unrequited love. it MUST stay unrequited. if it becomes requited it stops being interesting. it must be quietly agonized over for an eternity. Bonus points if the couple once had a chance but the suffering lover sabotaged it. (I've done this with HashiMada, Starscream/Wheeljack, and radiosnake. you could easily do it with Gideon/Mabel or post-betrayal billford.)

"emotionless" characters (like in a "robot programmed without emotions" way, not a "mental illness" way) that somehow gain the capacity to feel love and it becomes their whole identity because they have nothing else. (i don't have an example lmao)

Various tropes I enjoy outside unhealthy obsession (although it can incorporate it):

Anything that lets me write a character romantically waxing poetic over the breathtaking beauty of something that normal people would never consider a potential object of attraction. Like a pteranodon, or a literal triangle with an eyeball, or a pile of black sludge.

The super genius who makes/does incredible things and their personal muse who inspires their work and is in awe of the brilliant things they do/make. they can both be geniuses but don't have to be. (Tarantulas & Prowl; Sir Pentious & Alastor; Ford & Bill)

Toxic exes who still know each other SO well that it's agony to be around each other because they can see everything they used to have.

Characters who make each other Worse. Like their relationship is good, but being together turns them both into terrible people. (Venom.)

Favourite thing

Boldsushi! SASSUSHI! I love how unapologetically cocky and no-bullshit he gets when surrounded by utter madness and at some (many) points he feels like the only reasonable person in the room. He is also literally the most unique and lovable (once you get to really know him) protagonist I've ever read. My boy is so complex and to me, out of the whole cast, he feels the most like a real person.

Least favourite thing

Atp I adore canon Atsushi so much, the only thing I dislike is his fanon perception. In particular - people who just do not get why he's a compelling protagonist and not a "weak pathetic crybaby." I am pointing knives at everyone who still dares to STILL utter those lies this after recent chapters.

...but! Considering that is not an original thought but a shamelessly stolen flirty dramatic ass pick-up line from our second best boy xD I'll give you another, the silly and the serious:

-> oh the amount of times I have rewided to hear this over and over, laughing hysterically every single time, oh dear

Ok now for the serious one:

"Akutagawaaaaaa!"

"People need to be told they're worthy of being alive by someone else or they can't go on."

-> I love this one because of how blatantly wrong he is. And by wrong, I mean having an unhealthy mindset plagued by deep-rooted trauma, and this being the only way he's learned to cope. That's why he's a fascinating character. He's not saying this as a "lesson" or "moral" to the audience, nor as an objective truth - he's simply stating what he believes in and what drives him to keep going. Obviously this is an incredibly dangerous life policy to have because if you surround yourself by people who don't have your best interest in mind, and you rely on them to tell you what your worth is and why you're allowed to live - then you're just doomed, you're playing with the hazard of life and walking the thinnest line between hope and despair.

I can get into how this also connects to Akutagawa’s influence on Atsushi as he, subconsciously or not, helps him grow in the direction of living seperately from his past and abiding by his own ideals (something that is mirrored by Aku's own struggles), seeing his self-worth and taking action EVEN if faced with his biggest fear of being alone, even when the world is against him and there's no one there to pat him on the back and tell him he did a good job, even when everything and everyone has fought for is gone and he's left to pick up the pieces and he needs to believe his strength goes beyond the tiger's prowess, that he exists for a reason and he is enough, he is allowed to believe himself worthy of going on...

...but this wall of text is gonna have no end, so maybe another time!

brOTP

Kyouka & Atsushi. There is just no stronger familial relationship than those two and their influence on each other's lives is very sweet and very important. For me this hits especially hard in Beast and makes me tear up, just a bit (totally). I also regularly think about the crepe scene and it fills my heart with warmth and joy. Big brother Atsushi, my love, I will die for you (im almost starting to sound like yk who, jesus).

Even tho I will die on my sskk hill, I respect all ships with Atsushi because they're just wholesome and fun if you imagine then in an alternate universe (where Aku somehow doesn't exist *cough*) I guess if you're fooorcing me to choose, I will have to say Dazatsu because it just doesn't make sense to me, I cannot even see it making sense in any universe or scenario - for me they are simply mentor and mentee, barely even friends at max. The hierarchy gap here is just too large, I feel. But I enjoy some cute fanarts here and there for fun nonetheless <3

He is absolutely ogling every single cutesy tiger-themed article of clothing and furniture he sees but needs to restrain himself due to the imaginary flies coming out of his wallet. Kyouka notices this someday and buys him a baby tiger plushie or some cartoony tiger bedsheets (*cough* which I may or may not have already written into my wip *cough*).

Unpopular opinion

Considering my only habitat is sskk circles with very insighful people who understand his character mmmm it's a bit hard for me to know what is unpopular. But I'm gonna say that his flashbacks to the orphanage are not reduntant at all, no matter how repetitive they get, because it honestly feels like how a real person would experience trauma. It's not sugar-coated or glorified for the interest of the story, it just feels genuine yk?

Ok OK LIsteN. I think, and I am correct, that we as a fandom have failed spectacularly by getting over this panel WAY so soon. Yes, I have the "you fool" one printed out at my desk and I stare at it lovingly every half hour or so, but THIS ONE! Oh, this belongs in a museum. I would pay money if I had to, just to rest my gaze upon it for a mere second. I believe I need not express myself on why it's so magnificent... but I'm gonna do it anyway, becuz who's stopping me, my blog my rules woooo! :D

1. Peak of Harukawa's new art style. Hands down. The softness of his features. The tender look in his eyes. The composition is strikingly dynamic and just heartbreaking to take it all in. There is a dream-like quality to it that makes it feel ethereal, yet it depicts a living nightmare.

2. Oh, the hand reaching out for Aku. The way he turned his whole body to face him mid fall. As if he's seeking comfort because he's scared to die alone and he's scared of leaving his partner, no matter if he knows his strength and believes in him with his whole being. The way there is not an inkling of regret in his eyes, because he's finally done the right thing. It's his closure, his retribution, his response to a sacrifice in his own name that he didn't believe himself worthy of. But now he understands. Need I say more?

Hello lovely fandom! It’s tiiimmeeeee. I’m so ready for this premiere. This hiatus felt like the longest one yet. Probably cause they weren’t allowed to share literally anything for months and months. While I might still gripe we’re only getting 18 and 20 would’ve been better….I am psyched to be analyzing a new season ❤️

Changing these up to First impressions cause mini and I don’t get along in terms of brevity. Now imma try and be briefer since I’ll be doing a deep dive next summer. It's the little things like them sitting next to each other in the swat car that make me so happy. Not gonna lie I was grinning like a damn fool just seeing them seated together. God I missed them. Straight giddy them working together in the field. It’s where they originated. It’s where they’re going to heal.

I love her directing him in the field. That snap of her fingers and he knows instantly what she needs and follows. That beautiful rhythm only they can achieve. Silent communication at it's finest folks. Mmm loving this. Lucy taking down a dude double her size and Tim coming in to help finish him off. Hot damn I love them in the field. Legit ship crack to me everyone. Look at those beautiful humans in motion above. I can't get enough.

Oooh lord T.O Tim *fans self* Mmm Can’t say haven’t missed him. I'll be real honest. Yum. Thank you Nolan for not undermining him while he sized them up. We would've had words sir. It probably shouldn't delight me watching him tear them apart, and yet here we are with me drooling over him. With zero regrets. Just nice to see him in his element after being knocked out of it last year. I shall enjoy this year for him I can already tell.

I think Grey is setting her path and she has no idea how ‘not temporary’ this will be. At least IMO. I see her excelling at this and wanting to stay at it. Plus like Grey said it’ll strengthen her position should detective come back up. Also like to list the reasons why I think this will be good for her.

One it'll rebuild her confidence. Something we all know was shattered and then run over by s6. Second it'll give her a new purpose and clarity for her career. (Which is also a bingo square for me. Yes I'll be tallying mine all year lol) Now she has to accept being a FT one for it to apply but I think it will. Lastly it'll get rid of the pesky 'Chain of Command' issue for them later on. Because we don't want that again.

Tim enters the chat and he is a most welcome addition. The mini banter about her training. I'm here for it and I love love love it. Look at the flirty smirks on these idiots. Like breathing fresh air once again. The small smirks have me reeling. Gimme. Grey although has no time for this LOL Ushering their asses out. Just happy they can breathe the same air again and not have it be nuclear.

Then the real banter begins. I’ve missed them so much. I wanna cry. Tim instantly offering to give her tips. Is this one of his small doses? Possibly I think he would’ve offered this as an olive branch either way tbh. But I love seeing how eager he is to bond with her over this. Lucy’s so cute with her ‘ My rookie.’ Girl you’re gonna wanna stay a T.O. I already see it.

Lucy of course has her sassy answer locked and loaded for him. He answers right back. Goodness their banter is top tier. And woo another bingo card for me. Well this was not in my official bingo card. BUT I did say how if she ended up as a T.O. this season this would happen. In my 6x08 review said they would end up doing a bet over who trains a better rookie. And here we are. I'm enjoying my spoils and grinning like a happy fool. Which is nice after spending the second half of s6 being emotionally spent and destroyed.

Oh Lucy, like you could ever walk way from your man about a competitive bet of all things. This is how they’re gonna heal my friends. Going back to the beginning. To their roots. Where this rock solid bond was started. In the field. Along with some banter and fiery competition thrown in. This new dynamic has me so giddy I can’t even contain myself.

You can see how excited Tim is she’s going to be a T.O. With him. Flirting with her by offering this up. Moth to a flame with her in general. But this? Man is raring to go. Being a T.O and competition with his girl? He is beaming with excitement. Also probably knows this is a good way to further his cause of mending fences.

The goading of her oh my lord. It’s s4 all over again and I’m here for it. Except Tim is far more aware he’s in love with this woman. The straight teasing and flirting in front of the entire station. Welcome back. Oh my word I love sfm. His telling smirk is amazing. Reeling her back in slowly LOL

Nolan actually ignites more flirty flirts for them when he tells them about the ringer. Because classic John can't shut his yapper. I’ve truly missed this high grade goodness though. Lucy accusing him of hustling her haha Tim deescalates her like only he can with his strong logic. Saying it's actually harder that he has previous experience. He’s not wrong. First thing I thought about him when they said he had experience…Poor Seth called a virgin lmao

The rookies get assigned and we get jealous/protective Tim. Welcome back to our screens. You've been missed. *grabs ice water* This premiere is trying to kill me in the best way. I was here for the show. You tell that cocky little boy babe. I think someone else had one of the rookies flirts with Lucy in their bingo card. So you get that square ha The balls to do that in front of Tim. This kid has a death wish on wheels.

Ovary explosion at the way he barked at him though. Man is making me thirsty af. Also this kid is not a ringer in the least. I know what it’s like to de-program someone. It’s not easy. When I would get someone from another team (and terrible manager btw) I would spend the first 30 days just getting rid of the bad habits before I could begin to mold them. So ringer he is not....Lucy has a better shot with fresh meat tbh. Seth is far more impressionable. Hence her finishing line above.

Tim TEARS Texas a new one. Was kind of hoping he would. Nothing like a solid Tim T.O. rant. This kid needed it holy cow. Too damn cocky for a rookie even with experience. Makes it worse. Get em Tim! Tim’s final T.O scene has me drooling holy hell. The jacket, the stern taking to, and telling them to suck less? I’m dying hahaha I loved how this was shot. Seeing the faces as Tim grills them both. Putting them in place. I love it sfm I'm so VERY excited for this season for him. If this was our look into it I am ready for more.

Oh my word, this final scene of theirs. If you don’t feel giddy, and a sense of promise for reconciliation from this interaction, I can't help you. LOL. I mean that in the nicest way haha I really do. The subtext running through this scene like a bullet train of hope. The moment begins with puppy dog Tim. Let’s take a second to contrast how he just was with the rookies earlier. To seeing his girl in the parking lot. That's the Lucy Chen effect.

That man is walking on air, and beaming his best ‘Lucy’ smile as he approaches her car, looking like a damn snack I wanna devour. I adore the swapping of stories. Giving each other shit but staying confident in their abilities to right their rookies ships as it were. Lucy saying ‘Tomorrow is another day.’ With Tim’s hopeful ‘Yes it is.’ Got me all in my damn feels. To me it’s a positive setup for the entire season. The low key flirty vibes here are glorious first and foremost. Second the flirting inside the promise with those two lines has me reeling.

The smiles they both convey just shows our babies are healing. Lucy is healing. She isn’t holding back with the positivity and flirting right back. There is this underlying UST too. But the most beautiful part is their talk about 'Tomorrow'. Tomorrow is another day for them to get one step closer to being who they once were. Only stronger. Tim’s 'Yes it is.' Is everything. His tone of voice, how he’s looking at her, and that determination to make something out of every day he gets with her. Driven to make tomorrow a day he inches one step closer to the promise he made in the elevator in 6x10. Oooh lord I’m excited for this season.

I said couple days ago how amped I was for this new dynamic. Them being T.O’s together and finding their way back in this fashion. It’s a fantastic and true to them way to do it. Couldn’t be more excited. The LOOKS everyone my god. The way he is pining after her. Doesn’t tear eyes away for a second as she pulls off. And our girl checks the mirror not once but TWICE.

Making eyes right back at him. This scene should excite the hell out of you. I’m scaling the walls right now haha This is as a very very promising opening episode for them. Little more proof they're going to make their way back. Won't be right away but it's coming. This is what I was longing for when we left off all those months ago.

For them to be in a better place to even start this healing. I’m so ready for this journey. I really am. Trusting the writers to do this at the right pace. So when it does happen and it will. We’re gonna be on cloud 9 x1000 Ooof lord that was good. They know how to close out an ep our ship. Watched promo for next ep. I’m vibrating with excitement.

hi! i'll keep this short

i came to the realization everytime i've disappeared from tumblr to "take a break" i never really have because of other things going on in my life (which, duh, this isn't my whole life) but! i also realized that if i never actually take the time to recover and rest and think about things i should be writing i'll never feel better. so! i'm (once again)(but now more formally) going on hiatus until maybe may! i might pop in for spring break or earlier if i feel like it, but until then, not really any writing from me! with that being said, i'll still be around, doting on my moots (i.e. like, dorothea <3 wyr <3 and bug <3) because i love them so much and i will probably also post chapters of present ever so often! the reason being (i'm going to try to make this make sense but it may only make sense to me but i'm aware of how contradicting i am to me five seconds ago when i said i need to take a break from writing) present is a very personal fic for me that i've worked on for years at this point. what i'm posting now are chapters i wrote months ago after I've read over and edited them (or in the case of the upcoming chapter, i did randomly add it in and had to write it from the ground up last week lmao) but if it isn't obvious, present is a work i'm very passionate about and am just posting in case anyone else enjoys it but it feels like it's a work that is very individualized just for me and it doesn't cause me any stress or anxiety. on the topic of individualization, although i am of course so so thankful for all of the support and people that follow me, i do sort of miss when my blog and world were a lot smaller. it's something i feel like i only get when i get to reply to people in comments, but other than that, all the numbers and people on my feed give me a lot of anxiety. the hq (smau fandom especially) fandom or at least how much i'm (was) involved in it has grown exponentially and of course i'm happy about that but it's a bit too much for me. i'll be taking a huge step back from the fandom and any hq works i've written at least in the meantime, but that's not to say they'll never be finished! but i either need to grow to handle the bigger audience that now reads my works or wait for things to grow a little smaller again :) i hope to still be able to read my moots works but forgive me if it takes me a bit or i never get to them! i think at the least i'll still like them to show my support <3 thank you if you read my long ramble! i love you all <3

I never, ever got the hate for Serena.

Okay, first thing you need to know is, this is coming from a multishipper (someone who ships multiple pairings with the same person). I like Pokeshipping, Negaishipping, Amourshipping, and Journeyshipping.

Second thing you need to know is, I have one big theory about Serena.

Serena is intended as a self-insert for female viewers.

Her relationship with Ash is hyped up more than Misty's, her goal (I do legitimately believe Showcases are her main goal, and that it wasn't just to get Ash's attention) is extremely hyperfeminine, she has almost no discernible personality whatsoever, and she has tons of alternate outfits.

Okay, so these may be stereotypical, but, as someone who was once a little girl, romance and fashion are often interests of little girls, and they were definitely interesfs of mine. Just look at the girlsgogames catalog and all their dress up and dating games!

When I was little (6-12) I watched every Pokemon season, but BW was my first and XY was my fave. I wanted more than anything to be Serena. I drew her in my sketchbooks, when I first got my hair cut I asked my friends if I looked like her (i did not), and I was a diehard Amourshipper (I also loved Misty and Iris and their respective pairings, but Serena was my favorite).

I thought Pokemon Showcases were the coolest, most adorable things ever.

Okay, this isn't just me defending Serena solely because I like her, so, i'll give you a lot of reasons why I don't understand why she's hated.

For starters, a lot of her worse actions and qualities (her throwing a tantrum over losing a showcase, the snowball thing, ash being her goal) have no excuses, but there are two interconnected explanations for them.

Serena is extremely insecure.

Serena is a child.

Serena is an insecure child who has no idea what a relationship is supposed to look like.

Also, several complaints bashers have about her are either completely unwarranted or, honestly huge stretches.

Complaint A:

Serena is a stalker.

Serena is not a stalker in my opinion, Wanting to meet your old friend again now that he's close to you...doesn't make you a stalker. Keeping something that reminds you of them doesn't make you a stalker. And accepting that old friend's invitation to travel with them definitely doesn't make you a stalker.

Complaint B:

Serena only exists for fanservice/to be sexualized.

What...uh...the fuck? If your first thought when seeing a child character dressed in perfectly normal clothes who just happens to have many alternate outfits (which are also very normal, aside from when they're literal stage outfits) is "This character is intended as a sex object"

I'm not going to throw around horrible accusations, but...I do think that's creepy.

Complaint C:

Her dream being Showcases is problematic.

Showcases are based on the Japanese music industry, which, while that industry and culture is extremely messed up and dehumanizing, being an idol is also a common dream for young Japanese girls, which goes with my theory of Serena being intended as a self insert for female viewers. I personally don't think this indicates the writer's view of women, as the other pokegirls had far more acceptable goals.

Complaint D:

Showcases were never even her goal, it was solely to get Ash's attention. I'm just gonna say it here...I don't believe that one bit. See how crushed she was on her first loss? She wouldn't react like that if it wasn't a genuine dream for her. Her theme, Doridori, doesn't reference being in love at all, it references wanting to find her own purpose in life. And that thing she said to Ash after kissing him, about being beautiful and being with him being her goal...once again...she's a kid. She has no idea how relationships work. She thought that was what he wanted to hear. And when she returns in Journeys, she's a Coordinator. She's been pursuing her goal without him.

Complaint E:

She's immature and a crybaby.

I feel like a lot of people forget that the Pokemon protagonists are all like, 10. They act, and often look, older. Ash is the only one who actually acts his age, and even then, he acts way older in gens 4 and 6. Serena strikes me as acting like an actual child, trying and failing to be mature and serious. She's very irrational and doesn't take failure well. She reacts to things with what she thinks will work, not what will actually work, and it builds up a sense of dramatic irony when people realize that no, it won't work. Of course she's immature, she's literally 10.

So, anyway...this was me trying (and probably failing) to defend Serena.

TAS, "The Infinite Vulcan"

This episode was written by Walter Koenig, as an "oops, sorry dude" to him after he found out he wasn't allowed to be on the show, because Filmation could afford to pay 6 TOS actors, but not 7.

...And they went with Majel Barrett-Roddenberry as Nurse Chapel instead of Chekov. For some reason. That certainly had nothing whatsoever to do with her having married Gene Roddenberry in 1969, and him being heavily involved in the production of this show.

Speaking of Gene Roddenberry being a dick, he made Walter write like 12 drafts of this, because every time Gene read one he came up with a new "awesome" idea he wanted added to it. And the experience was so frustrating that Walter basically vowed to never subject himself to this kind of abuse again. So while this episode is really good and Filmation asked him to write more, he noped the whole way out of that.

Also he asked if they would PLEASE pay him like $2 to voice a character in this specific episode that the animators specifically modeled on him. They said no. Like he needed another reason to not work with these disrespectful assholes.

They're lucky he's a classy, professional guy. If it had been me, both Filmation Studios and Gene Roddenberry's car would have smelled like pee, from the beer bottles filled with my own pee I would have thrown at them. But Walter Koenig is not me, so no pee was thrown, he just turned in a really good TAS screenplay that is probably the best example of "TOS, but animated" that there is. This is absolutely one of the best TAS episodes. And those moments where it might be goofy and kinda lame, are 100% the fault of either Gene Roddenberry demanding something wacky, or the animators going "Walter, there is zero way we can draw that on this budget."

That said, they do a lot with a little, here.

The Enterprise is randomly exploring an unexplored planet, that clearly hosts some kind of non-spacefaring civilization. Because we apparently only care about the Prime Directive when Kirk happens to remember it, Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Sulu beam down and start fooling around. Sulu tries to play with a little purple plant that has spider legs, and it immediately stings him with a powerful toxin that will literally kill him in a minute.

So, going well immediately.

They don't immediately beam back to the ship, because Kirk and Bones want to use the last few moments of Sulu's life to panic about what the hell to do. Fortunately for them, some plant people show up and offer to cure Sulu. Bones wastes even more valuable seconds being racist to them, but Kirk rightly figures that if it doesn't work, Sulu is dead anyway, so he lets them inject Sulu with one of their tentacles. He is cured. McCoy is impressed that weird freak plant monsters from Space can do cures of toxins from their own planet.

Dial it back, Bones. Jesus.

The plant aliens, the Phylosians, seem like nice guys in general, and so take "our heroes" on a tour of the giant orange building they apparently all live inside. This includes a room filled with the GIANT CORPSES of the previous generation of the plant people, who all died of diseases brought to the planet by a previous human explorer.

Before Kirk can take the goddamn hint, they all get attacked by...

Well. I'll just show you.

As they're running away and diving to avoid the tentacles of these things, Kirk tries to call for a beam-out, but there is a dampening field that is blocking all communicators and phasers. Spock helpfully points out that these monsters are merely plants, too. Which turns into an immediate self-own as they capture him and carry him off.

Which the Phylosians are super enthusiastic about, because that was their plan all along, as they are following the orders of their "Master."

Just as Kirk begins to physically assault one of them (not an exaggeration), their Master reveals himself:

He is Dr. Stavos Keniclius 5 (the one who supposedly looks like 1973 Walter Koenig). He is 30 ft tall, and he tells Kirk he isn't getting Spock back, but he'll let Kirk use his communicator but only so he and the rest of the crew can leave for good.

As confused as the rest of us, Kirk decides a tactical retreat isn't a bad idea and they go back to the Enterprise.

Once there, Kirk immediately begins plotting Spock's rescue. Uhura finds a record of Dr. Stavos Keniclius, who was actually one of Khan's fellow ubermensch warlords from the Eugenics Wars. He was a genius geneticist who specialized in cloning, and unlike the rest of them that got imprisoned on the Botany Bay, this guy disappeared from history.

Kirk, who mispronounces his name as 'Keniculous' the entire time, concludes that this giant No. 5 guy must be the 5th generation of a clone body the guy grew for himself, and that he's no doubt planning to do weird clone stuff with Spock. But how are they going to free him from the plant monsters, when they can't use any of their technology down on the planet? Well, no worries, Bones suddenly codeswitches into his Confederate accent and remembers how his "great-great-granddaddy" was a gardener who had some secret family recipe for super weedkiller.

So the Space doctor went from immediate xenophobic hostility, to reverting to a thick Southern accent and gleefully plotting sentient plant-men murder with poisoned gas.

I think Walter Koenig gets this show in a way the rest of us never will.

Also, don't worry, Kirk also gets to finish beating up one of these artichoke nerds:

That guy fearfully explains what happened here, how Dr. Keniclius fled to their planet, accidentally murdered nearly all of them with his Earth-viruses, but then managed to find a cure. So he is their Master now, and they have to help him clone a giant body for Spock, so he can put Spock's brain into it, like he did for himself. Because Giant Spock will be Keniclius's new giant enforcer, who will help him conquer the galaxy and force everyone to live in peace!

...Look. He has one power, and it's making giant clones of people and then transferring their brains into the giant clones. He'll no doubt work out how the hell he's going to use that to defeat the Romulan, Klingon and Starfleet armadas, once he gets a giant Spock. One thing at a time, here.

"Yeah but why would a giant Spock with Spock's brain help this giant idiot do his evil plan?"

Dr. Keniclius probably should have worked that out before he did this. Because the giant Spock does NOT help him, especially after the brain-transfer when Giant Spock sees his own little original body dying from not having a brain.

(Also this is now the second of three times in Spock's life that his brain has been removed from his body. Space is a goddamn weird place.)

Before his orginal body dies, Giant Spock puts his brain back into Regular Spock's body with a mind-meld:

Also, when he does this, Giant Spock also just...has Spock's brain, too? Still? So I guess all this did was clone Spock's brain, but back into his own original body. Because this ends with Dr. Keniclius getting sad that his stupid nonsense plan failed, and Regular Spock and Giant Spock agreeing that Keniclius and Giant Spock should stay on Phylos and work together to rebuild the Phylosian civilization.

Kirk says fine, I guess because this 5th giant clone of Keniclius isn't technically responsible for all the war-crimes original Keniclius did 200 years earlier. Plus, how the hell would they even fit a 30 ft tall half-naked Walter Koenig onto the Enterprise, let alone keep him in custody?

Thankfully Keniclius agrees to all this.

Then Kirk asks Sulu to show him a judo throw that Sulu used when they were mixing it up with the Phylosians, and this fucking happens:

If you know, you know. Because Walter Koenig certainly did. I am unwilling to accept any other explanation for why the hell this episode would still end like this after 12 drafts.

Obviously I have spent this whole post making fun of how goofy this whole mess is. And it certainly is. But it is still very good. Everyone on the bridge crew (besides perpetually-irrelevant Arex) gets good, thoughtful character beats. Sulu especially is as loose and fun as he was on TOS in the best stories from that series, and I think it's obvious that Koenig identifies most with that character if Chekov isn't there. Bones is very nearly a parody of himself, but I'm not going to complain, because he's still an effective officer and it's funny. Even Scotty and Uhura get their moments to shine (if only because someone has to do all the stuff Spock usually does when he hasn't been kidnapped by plant monsters).

There is even some good technobabble in this episode, and the Phylosians end up coming off as sympathetic, given their circumstances.

It's a goofy show, but a REASONABLY goofy one. It's fun, and just avoids getting too outlandish.

...Besides maybe the thing where there is now an eternal giant Spock running around a sentient plant planet.

But this same universe had an evil Riker clone for years, and an entire clone of the Voyager made out of sentient mud. Lose the attitude.

I definitely do! I'll go into it under the cut!

trobed is, for me, THE ship. They’re my favorite, and that one ship that I keep coming back to. they’re also one of the few ships out there where, I truly cannot imagine them with anyone else. like sure, I think there have been cases in between for both of them (Britta, Abed’s side adventures, Rachel, etc,) but none of those are relationships that I think can last, because Troy and Abed are so endgame—it’s like, they’re the one ship I look at and go, oh, okay, soulmates, and it’s because they actively worked for it.

Troy put effort into being Abed’s friend, and Abed has so much patience with Troy—they take the time to actually work. It looks so fun and seamless on screen, they’re so whimsical, it almost looks like it’s so easy and that they clicked right away, but no, they had to work for it. (Somewhere Out There being an example, with Troy realizing he has to help Abed too. The whole STD fair bit where Abed catches on to Troy being in the midst of a toxic masculinity induced breakdown and letting him win, etc.) And they have to keep working on it, (the celebrity impersonators, the pillow and blanket war, the lava and Abed learning to let Troy go and Troy learning how to leave, etc.)

they work because they took the time to do so. And because of that, and what they bring out in each other (Troy pulling Abed from viewer to active cast member, Abed pulling Troy from the repressed jock persona) as well as the actual insanity of the depths of their feelings for each other (just look at the way they look at each other. listen to the words that come out of their mouths. “Other half. I love you. I know. You were out there somewhere and you weren’t looking for me? By the way when I cloned you, I had to patch some missing parts of your DNA with genes from a homing pigeon. You may notice some side effects, like the compulsion to come back.” Just think for a second about how abed views Troy as a remarkable in a world of unremarkables.)

not to mention the way they complement each other. abed likes being in control (he’s a self-described control freak) and Troy likes being told what to do (‘I miss being told what to think’) and in particular seems very happy to be told what to do by abed.

They drive me crazy. and so, when it comes to Troy and Abed respectively, I don’t have any ships for them that isn’t just Trobed. And I mean, they’re also both very jealous or possessive when it comes to the other so, yeah, once they’re together I feel like it’d stay like that. Troy just needs to come back from sea already.

I was just trying to explain first that I do have other community ships but not in regards to Troy and Abed. Now onto the other ships before I get sidetracked again;

Jeff/Britta— they are my second fave ship like. I love them to an unhealthy degree, and I love how they also build off each other. (The “you need to bang his mom” scene always gets me) I read a fic once, by @troybarnesbabygirlconfirmed where Jeff was thinking about how he and Abed are so similar, and if anything "Abed was simply Jeff more devoutly committed to the people he loves, and that Troy is Abed’s Britta." I’ve been losing my mind over that ever since because yeah, that’s it exactly. You know how I said Trobed are soulmates not just bc of the way they click but because they work to understand each other? Jeff and Britta have that too, I think, in that Jeff does value what Britta says, and Britta cares so much. Jeff cares so much. The thanksgiving episode will forever gut me. The only reason I haven’t put JeffBritta on the Trobed-level is because whereas I cannot separate Troy and Abed, I do have another Jeff ship and another Britta ship.

Jeff/Shirley- okay. okay hear me out. how come nearly everyone had some sort of entanglement within the study group and not Shirley? I don’t think it’s just cause of Andre. I like Jeff/Shirley. They’re the same age, and they complement each other well, with Jeff trying to run from love while simultaneously craving it, and Shirley trying to hold on to love and toughing it out even when sometimes it doesn’t seem worth it at all. Besides, the whole foosball episode, where they found out they knew each other when they were kids? I love that episode, because the way they were hanging out and having fun was just so precious. And, in the episode with Blade, it’s also revealed that whenever Jeff is up to some sort of scheme/plan/type thing that he doesn’t want the others to know about, he goes with Shirley. He loves gossiping with Shirley. Their rapport is just so good, I loved seeing it. And I can’t help but remember that one post about an AU where in s1, after Shirley’s divorce, and when Jeff is living in his car, Shirley puts up a room in her home for rent, and Jeff ends up moving in. The POTENTIAL. Him meeting and interacting with her kids. we could have had it all. I know s1 Jeff may not have been ready for that. But we could have had it all!!!

Rich Stephenson/Ben Chang- entering crack ship territory but I just think it would be so funny.

Annie/A Girlfriend- She's a lesbian guys. At least, that's my take. I cannot view her as a character who isn't experiencing comphet. Okay. Sexuality is fluid, and I've never been into labels myself because sometimes, the overlap and intersection of attraction--in whichever form--gets tricky for me, personally. Like okay, I think Abed, Jeff, and Britta are bi. I think Annie is a lesbian, and that Shirley is straight. But sometimes I look at Troy, who I think is gay, and think yeah, he could be a high 5, almost 6, on the Kinsey scale. Which is to say--I think he's gay! But I think there could be a small possibility of a moment or two where he could get dominated by a strong capable woman. Do I think the chance is high? No. Its low but not totally zero. But then, this is Troy we're talking about. Troy who once made it clear to Annie that he liked butt stuff while holding his arms out and closing his eyes, so we can only assume from that moment that he was expecting her to top. That and Troy is someone who can be weird about his gender as we--oh my god, i went on another tangent AGAIN, I am so sorry. basically--GIVE ANNIE A GIRLFRIEND. i see the potential for annie kim/annie edison, i think it would be hilarious, but also, I was rewatching CW's Nancy Drew with one of my friends and. I was so enamored with the character of Bess to the point where I think, FBI agent Annie should get with a down on her luck former-conwoman from London. OKAY I LOVE DINAHBOOSE obv I've been into this musical for a total of 2 weeks or so- so I'm still scrounging every bit of Information on these guys that I can. And I've done wayyy more research on CB than I have Dinah ( he has a lot more to look at though ) but these two just make sense to me. They just make sense. Opposites but not opposites. They are confusing and they are both confused. But at least they can hold hands while confused.

Personally I struggle to ever hate or dislike ships unless there's like a blindingly obvious reason to dislike a ship. But dinahboose is probably my second favorite ship so far for StEx ( Electraboose has 1st place and Krupp/purse has 3rd )

Totally not gonna use this to talk about my personal rewrite of StEx.. specifically C.B. because I don't want to make a post just for it LMAO.

So yeah I've been basically studying C.B. ( or, I guess caboose because he hasn't been called C.B in a long time... but C.B has more personality.. ) and my version of C.B. is probably a horrible amalgamation of OLC and 2015 Bochum. Because I love radio aesthetics and the Dinah friendship but I also love the toy soldier aesthetic and absolutely batshit laugh ( I also love it when C.B. is played by somebody too flexible for their own good ) hes just a glorified circus clown on wheels with a radio set strapped to his head.

And I wish I could pretend that I understand cutting him but I do and I don't and I do. Because I honestly feel like C.B in the original does more than Electra lmao. But I don't think cutting people is the solution most the time tbh.

Okay onto more half asleep rambling that is likely to change because I'm still in the early stages of this rewrite. But. I recognize that C.B. has some issues. The one most of my friends point out is that he seemingly has no motive. He just... Is silly I guess. And I think this is a bit funny because I do like an antagonist with the motive of " it would be funny " , but at the same time. Kind of hard to make that character very ...er... Well I'll just say it does get a bit boring.

Something I also heard was that in the reasons C.B. has been cut was because caboose's aren't exactly used anymore, which is totally fair!

But could also totally be a motivation! Think about it, why is C.B still working? Still working with the freight despite essentially being useless? Because greaseball wants to keep him around to use him for cheating. Easy! Obviously none of this could easily be translated to the show. But for some comics/writings? Yes. Yes.

Think about it. Rusty is struggling, he feels a bit useless because steam is falling behind! So he tries to win and prove himself. But who else feels useless because of their job being replaced? C.B. but unlike rusty, C.B takes the other path, instead of trying to be a role model and win or prove himself. He just goes down the path of crime. And hey, he's probably a crazy adrenaline junky too so he's still doing it for the fun!

And why does he betray greaseball? Plenty of reasons. C.B might dislike greaseball because of poor treatment, he might dislikes greaseball for his treatment of Dinah, he probably just wants to get the adrenaline high of betraying him in the first place. Maybe to prove that he's important and needed because if he doesn't help, greaseball will lose. And he wants to hold it over him for his own personal desire of self importance. Who knows. He's a complicated little clown he is.

Constructve/mechanical complaints are fine--AI in a game, gacha rates suck, episodes are shorter, episode quality/story was mid--but if you're going to proclaim how much you dislike something, maybe don't tag it for everyone who likes that thing to find. It's rude if you think about it for longer than 2 seconds.

Sometimes I let it go, most of the time I just block as soon as I notice it. I don't check the tags as often as I used to, and I admit that I should probably reach out and say 'hey, could you not? That's rude.', but I'm tired and it's not my job to teach people basic etiquette.

Just do so with consideration for others. Sometimes I block "antis"(in the context of ships/kinks/fiction) on sight.

Generally ""rancid vibes"". Entitlement, being a dick sometimes even if it's in private. The works. Siding with someone who falls under this may also get you a block. There's a difference between venting and this that can be missed easily since I generally don't have context.

Generally speaking these things can or will get you blocked. Chances are if you want me to unblock you/you noticed or cared it probably was a mistake or you've grown or I've jumped the gun or something. So maybe I'll unblock for things like dickishness(we all have bad days man) and non-aggressive antis--but other stuff is a hard no unless I have reason to believe I made a mistake.

But didn't Frank lie to Karen and used her a literal live bait to lure out his enemies in Daredevil S2? Putting Karen in direct danger more than Matt or his lies has.

And I often see how one-sided these things are, people pointing out Matt's lies and secrets but never Karen's, the fact that she didn't reveal that she killed Wesley to Matt and Foggy to the point that the FBI and Nadeem actually pinned his death on Matt, thus the manhunt for him in S3. When Matt asked Karen if anything happened when they were in the office, she lied and said nothing about the Ben incident of them meeting Fisk's mother.

As for "Karen didn't get an explanation about Elektra"...because she walked out before Matt could even get a single full sentence in. Is Matt supposed to telepathically communicate the explanation to her? All I'm saying is, you can't get what you don't even give a chance to be given to you. Clearly during that period Matt was ready to be forthcoming since in the bathroom scene at the courtroom he did say the truth to Foggy about Elektra and the Hand. But Karen didn't even give him a chance to get a word in.

And I feel like the fact that Danny Rand being kidnapped by the Hand, Luke and Jessica not being fully aware of who their enemies are and clearly needing help, and thousands of lives being at stake are enough extenuating circumstances for Matt to forgo his promise of not being Daredevil. In that context it's really poor taste and self-oriented to be navel-gazing instead of understanding why Matt had to suit up...is he supposed to leave Jessica, Luke, and Danny to figure things out themselves and that he just sits idle just so he doesn't offend Karen? Despite the fact that he's the one who knows the most about the mission and the Hand?

Okay there's a lot to unpack here. My response to your first point is that Frank and Karen weren't dating—she was in a relationship with Matt. So there's a bigger sense of betrayal there, at least emotionally. That's why she has a bigger issue with Matt's deception than with Frank's, at least in my opinion. Also, Frank had already proven himself to be murderous and dangerous; Karen knew that ahead of time. Matt's lying was new to her.

For your second point, I'll just say that if you read my other posts about Karen, my whole argument is that she is FLAWED. That's the whole point. She makes mistakes; she does terrible hypocritical deceptive things, like all the ones you mentioned. Just like Matt Murdock does. The point is that they both lie. And they're both mad at each other about it. Because they're both human beings (also part of the reason they work so well together, imo. They're both kind of idiots at times, lol). I don't know how you can say I'm being one-sided if my whole point is that they are alike—even mirrors of each other—in their duplicity and hypocrisy.

For your third point—I mean, yeah. Karen walked out on Matt before he could explain. I think most people would after seeing something like that. Because what else is she supposed to think happened??? And to be honest, Matt didn't put in a whole lot of effort to run after her and explain. That's on him, since he was the one causing the situation. He had lots of chances, but he didn't do that because he was already invested in his life with Elektra at that point. Don't get me wrong, I ship Karen and Matt, and I truly believe that show was moving in the direction of bringing them back together (if they'd been allowed to continue on to season 4). But Matt was absolutely at fault in that Elektra situation, and was low-key emotionally cheating by that point. If he didn't have his head up his ass, he would've run after Karen and explained it to her, even if he had to chase her down at her apartment or at The Bulletin or wherever. But he didn't. It took Elektra's death to make him realize his mistake.

And finally to your last point, obviously I agree with you—Matt is making the right decision when he picks up Daredevil again and joins the Defenders. Every viewer of the show agrees with you there, because we're with Matt the whole time; we see firsthand the battles he's fighting. Karen and Foggy, though, don't get to see that. They can't truly understand it because it's just utterly unfathomable to them. For the most part, they're hearing about all this stuff secondhand (and sometimes not hearing about it at all, just having to piece together information), so they can't really conceptualize the gravity of the situation. But you know what they can conceptualize? Their fear for Matt. This problem that they've witnessed firsthand for months outweighs (in their minds) the abstract threat they're hearing about. This is because—and again, this is the whole point—they are human, and human beings are flawed and selfish and often can't see past the end of their noses. Matt was in the right when he was fighting for the city—but Karen and Foggy weren't wrong to be afraid and angry. It's scary and sad to watch their best friend constantly in danger of killing himself. It's just a terrible situation, and they're doing the best with the limited information that they have.

Listen—you don't have to like Karen Page. You're free to engage with the material and the fandom however you see fit. If you want to hate her, that is your prerogative, and you're welcome to do so. Assuming you're the same anon that asked the other questions, I think it's unlikely that you're going to change your mind about her. And that's valid! You're absolutely entitled to your opinion. And, in that same vein, I also don't think I'll change my mind about her. Every single point you've brought up is something I've already thought about—and those points don't make me dislike her. It all just informs the character. So again, you can feel however you want to feel about her, and I'll do the same.

In the end, I'm just happy to have the comics and the show and the content that comes with it. I don't think there's any reason to get up in arms over it. We're all just engaging with a great story :)

For the ship ask: Lee Wan and Shin Ki Tae

I love these two and I'm so happy they got their second chance.

Lee Wan is kind of a frustrating character, in that he lives so much in his own head and is so convinced he can't have what he wants that he self-sabotages and costs himself years of a relationship with Ki Tae, not to mention hurting him deeply by confessing and then doing a runner without even letting him respond. He abandoned his best friend in a bid to protect himself and it really wasn't cool! It's all very sympathetic, however, because Wan is a closeted gay boy who is utterly terrified of being rejected by his best friend, and at no point in all of this was he thinking clearly. He made both of them miserable but we never struggled to understand why.

Shin Ki Tae, by contrast, is kind of the hero of this relationship because he did not give up even when he easily could have. But no, he chased after Wan, found him again, supported his art from afar, found a way to bring him back into his orbit, and then forced him to talk it out until they resolved their issues and finally got on the same page. Conflict avoidant people need straightforward communicators in their lives and these two are a really good pair for that reason.

This is also one of those ships where I really believe they are going to stay together and have a happy relationship after the show ends. They're super compatible, they've worked their shit out, they are clearly devoted to each other, and I am not worried they will have these problems again.

I was just going to not answer this ask as I feel like I've repeated the many reasons I hate hunt/low in the past, but I realize I've never put it all in one place. I'm going to start by linking some asks or posts of mine that are a smorgasbord of things I or others have pointed out regarding what's wrong with the ship itself for some reference points.

And I'll add my "Hunt/low Trope Bingo Card" that gives us a fun diagram of multiple problematic tropes that Hunt/low falls under

Let me start of with the ship itself. Hunt/low quite literally makes both characters' arcs irrelevant. Willow's entire arc about learning to be confident in herself, overcome her bullying, and be strong for herself and her friends is basically entirely erased when you put her with Hunter. Her whole arc is that for a lack of better words, she saved herself and is her own person. Yes, she had the help of Luz and Gus, and later Amity after they began mending their friendship, but her whole thing was being strong and confident on her own. In concept, giving Willow a pretty boy boyfriend immediately makes her arc less impactful than if she's never paired with anyone in the story, because her story is about her own self growth. Not being saved by having a conventionally attractive boyfriend. And in practice, we actually see it happen. Willow is dumbed down and made insanely out of character in almost the entirety of the third season, particularly in FtF. She's shown multiple times throughout the end of the season (Actually, in S2 as well) needing to be physically saved by Hunter specifically when she's always been shown she can stand up for herself before. And, yes, you could argue that "Willow doesn't always need to be the strong one!", and you'd be right! But the fact that the second she becomes friends with Hunter, the way her character is written changes dramatically. We see her need to be saved over and over, and it is literally only by Hunter. If this wasn't the case, I would agree with that, but unfortunately it's not. Her growth and "revolutionary" strong-on-her-own arc is entirely negated if she is put in a relationship with Hunter.

On the flipside, Hunter's arc is just as equally, if not more, irrelevant. Hunter's arc is also about finding himself and finding a group of people that are his pseudo-family. His growth is his journey to becoming his own person, away from his abusive parental figure. In concept, Hunt/low makes all of Hunter's trauma, abuse, and loss meaningless by falling into the trope of "romantic love heals all", which is both dangerous for young fans who will believe that and a slap in the face for every abuse victim that relate to Hunter. It's like saying that nothing bad he experienced mattered or had any lasting impact, because you give him a strong girlfriend and poof! All the problems go away and are solved! And I shouldn't have to explain why that message is insanely harmful. As with Willow, we see this happen in action as well. Any time there's a nod to Hunt/low in the show, Hunter's trauma immediately doesn't seem to matter. This is shown the clearest when he is literally not allowed to grieve Flapjack's death because it "upsets" Willow and he has to run after her to comfort- and later save- her. The writers actually made it so that Hunter is made to feel guilty for showing sadness about Flap because it made Willow feel like she "can't do anything right", making the entire scene about how he had to save her and put his grieving of Flapjack to the side. I think as an abuse victim, this is the one thing about Hunt/low that makes me the angriest. And to dip my toes into a later point- fan creators that ship Hunt/low also do this in their fanworks. Moringmark is a BIG perpetrator of the Hunter abuse denial rhetoric.

The way they are intended to be written, these two arcs contrast each other, not complement them. It makes no sense for them to be shipped. And further, the context & content we get in the actual show has a staggering lack of depth or intention. Every interaction they have feels out of character and as if their personalities have to be entirely re-worked for them to even interact- and those are just the miniscule amount of times they actually interact. There's almost no actual content for Hunt/low in the show, it's never acknowledged by other characters how they do with Lumity and Raeda, and they literally almost never interact in the show until FtF. There is no logical reason that anyone should assume they were even interested in each other (aside from Hunter's blink-and-you-miss-it blushes) and you could probably count on both hands how many times they actually interacted with each other on screen both before the Day of Unity, and until FtF. And I'd go as far as to say that when they do interact, they barely even act like friends. Willow spends almost the entirety of TtT ignoring Hunter (assumably unintentionally, but they almost never interact and the episode was literally based around Hunter as one of the main characters in it) aside from the hair cutting scene- which contextually made no sense to be done by Willow- and the after-possession scene- also made no sense contextually for him to have his head on Willow's lap. She literally makes fun of him at one point, with Amity being the one to basically say "guys that's mean, Hunter I don't want you to get made fun of by others please change". How does any of that read as a healthy or loving ship? Much less even a friendship. By the time they get to the Human Realm, Willow and Hunter have interacted, what, maybe three times? Once during ASIAS (Where Willow forgives him way faster than she should have for her character, when she literally took months to fully forgive Amity- and Ami didn't kidnap her), Once during LR (Where Willow literally is shown as not caring, liking, or trusting Hunter until he says something that proves he was with Gus), and then on the mission with Luz & co. to rescue Amity leading to the Day of Unity. The ship both in context & in practice completely obliterate not only both characters' arcs as stated above, but also wreck their personalities, making them every other generic girl and boy in a generic m/f ship.

Moving onto the fandom in relation to Hunt/low. Let me set the scene. This show, The Owl House, in and of itself is for a Queer audience. That doesn't mean cishet people cannot enjoy it, but it is a silent "stay in your lane". TOH was REVOLUTIONARY for Queer mainstream media with the main character being the first main character on an animated show by Disney to be openly Queer. Luz is openly bisexual and has a girlfriend! She comes out to her mom! Her adoptive mother, one of the other 3 main characters, ends up in a canon relationship with her Highschool Sweetheart, a nonbinary person, and is ALSO openly bisexual! So why is Hunt/low treated as if it is the "third main ship" on TOH, when it ISN'T EVEN CANON. Why is it treated as if it's on the same level as Lumity and Raeda!? Why are there fanartists and other creators that ONLY draw or write Hunt/low!? It's insulting honestly! And I, as a queer person, am being so dead serious. it's fucking insulting. And the way Hunt/low shippers treat people that don't ship it is disgusting. Their go-to defense tends to be "Crying Wolf", or claiming any kind of "-phobia" they can to make their ship seem "more valid". You have no idea the amount of times I and my mutuals have been called "biphobic" or "fatphobic" or any number of other insults. When more often than not, It's Hunt/low shippers that I see ignoring Hunter's bisexuality, or worse, disparaging people for shipping Hunter in a mlm relationship. Or worse- saying certain ships (Huntric/Goldric) are inc/estuous because of Aladarius, which also is not even canon (And neither is "Dadrius" while I'm at it, but that's a totally different argument for a different day.). I see them use his bisexuality as fodder constantly. And I won't even mention the mischaracterization by every single Hunt/low fan I've ever seen, making Willow anywhere from Girlboss to Tradwife or Mom Girlfriend, and Hunter from Malewife to Wet Cat to Protector Boyfriend.

The crew also did not help the situation at all. Multiple Storyboard artists or other crew members have openly admitted to attempting to (or succeeding to) force Hunt/low into the storyline, always at the scolding of Dana who would make them remove it or tone it down as it didn't fit her vision of the show. I've seen multiple crewmembers say this- it's not just a one off thing. Or the crew member who once said she didn't care that the ship name "Winter" (the crew's ship name for Hunt/low) made it hard to block/tag because she liked how it sounded. It's just. I've seen so many instances of Dana's crew being that disrespectful to her and attempting to push their own personal feelings and ideas into the show against her wishes.

I could probably go on forever, so I'll stop here. But yeah. That's the basics of why Hunt/low is a shitty, harmful ship.

this ask has been sitting in my inbox for fucking AGES because i could not find the words to express myself. it genuinely required more thought than d's viva piñata ask (which, pt 2 to that soon). god i fucking LOVE when you guys hit me with the "so tell me about this niche interest of yours" IT MAKES ME CRAZY /POS anyway, for those of you who are new here or don't know the context, origami angel is the reason my long fic seasons (tagged) exists. i got back into them and sdv at a similar time and genuinely bro, i cannot separate the two. i recommend reading this post for further context. it'll help you understand why this ask means so much to me hehe

gonna start off strong here with second best friend. if we're talking sambastian as a ship, this is perhaps THE sambastian song. maybe not the way everyone writes them, but paired with the fact i write abby and seb to be best friends before sam came around, i think it fits. abby is seb's rock and i can only imagine sam just feels there sometimes. not that he's less of seb's friend than abby is, but he feels different since he has feelings for him. he doesn't just want to be his second best friend, he wants to be his boyfriend.

the song really does feel like sam trying his hardest to impress seb, doing stupid shit in the process, and never really getting anywhere. i've read plenty of sambastian fics like this and even in some of the things i write he goes out of his way to be noticed in a way sebastian dismisses in one way or another.

it's also a really "trying to get over you" kind of song. not perfect for seasons since it takes place after they've all graduated high school, but i can see in other instances sam being very fond of seb growing up and thinking back on it when seb's got another partner, when he's just had a break up, etc. etc. like he wishes he were seb's, but seb's always got someone else.

there's also the idea that seb's partners might also be his best friends. his best friend and his partner, so sam always feels second to whoever seb is dating at the time. you can really spin this song and the concepts a number of ways for sambastian XD

not origami angel, but similar to second best friend so i wanted to include it here. this song is just a sam song. it's about him and farmer. if you listen to it i think it's pretty self explanatory. sam is the lead, abby and seb are his two best friends, the subject is farmer.

i mentioned this briefly in my 'context' post, but this can really swing either way when it comes to sam and seb. i think it perfectly describes their friendship but i can also see it as something sam writes about seb, for seb, and just hopes he doesn't think too much about it.

if you just look at the lyrics (some of which i've copied below) you can see exactly what i mean. you could not pay me to believe sam has not busted down seb's door late at night when seb's having a rough time with work or a depressive episode and forced him to take a night drive. maybe there were even times seb reached out asking for one and no matter what time it was sam would be up and ready to sneak out his house to go be there for sebastian.

the first two verses are great, but this one in particular is so them:

this one is a bit less specific, but i do think if you want to dive into shipping territory it really can work for them. i dunno i just feel like even conceptually, telling someone they're the answer to several if not all of your problems is like... REALLY SWEET. maybe that's weird? but i do think that despite everything, sam's still there, he still wants seb around, loves him, etc. they're both fucked up in their own way but being friends/lovers is healing for them.

sebastian hates himself, we all know this. the way he treats let's say, maru, is in part a reflection of how he views himself. he doesn't think he's enough for people despite the things he does. like he has a whole ass stable (enough) job and people don't take it seriously. that fucks a person up. but also, i write him as someone who might try to do better and not enjoy all the shocked comments people make about him "never being the one to do" something. and to try and be better and maybe fail, still make mistakes. so i can see sam writing this song to remind him that things will be okay and despite what everyone might say he sees sebastian for who he truly is beneath all the stress he endures and his problems. and that he doesn't have to go out of his way to be someone else (like getting a new job) just to please other people. he's okay being him.

self-destruct is a really sebastian song. i cannot make it any more clear than the lyrics do. it's so anxiety ridden, so full of self doubt. the fact it's called self-destruct is even better because i just feel like he's the kinda guy to ruin all kinds of relationships he has by assuming the worst of people. but he doesn't mean to and that alone haunts him.

i think i have said this ONCE and to maybe TWO PEOPLE but this song is chronically sam. it's not perfect but the way i see it is almost like a heavily covered up song about how sam feels about kent being away at war and being responsible for both his mom and especially vincent.

i'm particularly fond of these lines:

i just... i don't know. i feel like when kent left for the last time (which i hc to be while sam was still in high school; i mess with the tl a bit) he told sam that he had to step up and be the man of the house now. i don't think he meant anything malicious by it but i do think he was worried he would never come back home and almost wanted to prepare sam for it. but he waited until the last minute to say this, right when he was heading out, and it really was the moment when the last of sam's childhood was ripped from right up underneath him.

no matter what sam wants to be he knows he first has to be there for his family. i'm sure he also desperately wants to move back to the city, maybe even go with sebastian so he at least has a friend, but he knows he can't disappoint his dad or leave his mom and brother behind. he has to support them any way he can, whether it be emotionally, monetarily, or something else. is he a better person because of these circumstances? debatable. i think it's just leaving him with long term trauma he buries beneath a smile so he doesn't fall apart.

this is a little random of a song to associate with sebastian but i really do think it fits and it's one of two songs that i cannot help but attach to him. it's just so moody and mopey and it feels raw in the sense it's honest. i don't think sebastian realizes people do actually love and care for him. i think he defaults to thinking everyone hates him or thinks poorly of him because he perceives himself as the worst person to ever exist. a lot of his problems are self assigned, self destructive like i said. at times these feelings almost make him want to give up and on the off chance someone does say something outright awful about him it's only reinforcing how he feels. it makes him not want to be around anyone anymore, why he isolates himself in his room and only goes out when it's quiet or finds a quiet place to smoke.

i dunno this is just something you have to listen to, the instrumentals for me are as important as the lyrics.

this song. guys. this SONG is a lyrical masterpiece. it's fast and messy and at times heart wrenching and there are SO many lines that feel very sebastian to me. my favorite has to be the bit about socially teething and i actually use that phrase as the title to the first chapter of seasons. it's perfect, it's him, and i cannot convey to you in words. you just have to listen to it. also it's the second song i cannot help associate with him, right up there with worm food

I'm basing this on my own personal opinion but I think Shizuka could be represented by a scarf.

I see scarves as a symbol of comfort and warmth, as they're most commonly used in the wintertime to further bundle one's self up against the cold. Shizuka isn't very good at providing comfort to others but I still associate her with a scarf because I wrote her character as someone who needs to find comfort outside of herself.

Not only that, but scarves also symbolize introversion and vulnerability to me. A trope with scarves is for a character to hide their face in their scarf when embarrassed or scared. Shizuka has a tough persona but inside she's vulnerable to feelings of self-doubt and keeps to herself because she's kinda bad with people.

19) Which of the four temperaments (sanguine, choleric, melancholic, or phlegmatic) are they?

I'd say Shizuka best fits the choleric temperament. She's not the extroverted type as cholerics usually are but she still has a majority of the traits associated with it. Her negative choleric traits include her bluntness, her workaholic tendencies, and emotional distance from others. Her more positive traits include her open-mindedness, passion, and tenacity.

First off, Shizuka is shipped with Inosuke so she takes Aoi's place as his love interest. But that's something small.

Shizuka's role in changing the canon narrative involves a lot of joining in on certain arcs and taking the place of another character in a certain situation/battle.

During the Mount Natagumo arc, Shizuka is present (on her way to Final Selection so she's not even an official demon slayer yet) and goes onto the mountain (for reasons) and ends up being the one to fight the Elder Sister Spider Demon in Shinobu's place.

Shizuka joins the Mugen Train arc as she temporarily trained with Kyoujurou in the past and Tanjirou asked her to help introduce him to the Flame Pillar (this follows more of the manga explanation of the Kamaboko Squad boarding the train to speak with Kyoujurou rather than being formally requested to join the mission as was the case in the anime). She doesn't do much on the train, mostly acting as Nezuko and Zenitsu's back up. But once the train is dealt with, Shizuka does her best to tend to Tanjirou's wounds and uses herself to shield him when Akaza shows up.

She also plays a part in the Entertainment District arc, taking Tanjirou and Zenitsu's place alongside Suzume (my friend Steph's oc), and then much later in the Infinity Fortress arc where she fights Douma alongside Kanao and Inosuke.

I suppose I can also say that Shizuka's presence is also a key point in a narrative involving a second group of antagonists outside of the demons. But this one answer has gone on long enough so I'll leave it at that.

19) How might your oc react to finding out you are the one responsible for their life?

Oooohhhh... Ah... Shizuka would not like me. I gave her a pretty hard life. She's been working since childhood. She has a complex about being the youngest/weakest/least useful child. Her mother died while she was training to be a demon slayer. Shizuka later finds out about her siblings dying to demons. Her life is a wreck and it's because I made it that way.

So Shizuka would have words for me. She wouldn't do me any harm because that wouldn't really change her life since it's been written already. But I can see her questioning why I'd make her (and others) suffer and then leaving in anger/frustration.
