Oder ist es eher Widerstand gegen Größenwahn, der in Saudi-Arabien tödlich enden kann? Wer sich im Land gegen die Megastadt „The Line“, das Prestigeprojekt Saudi-Arabiens, wendet lebt gefährlich. "The Line" beschreibt sich auf der Projekt-Website selbst so: "Eine faszinierende Stadt, die sich über 170 Kilometer erstreckt, von den epischen Bergen des NEOM über inspirierende Wüstentäler bis hin zum wunderschönen Roten Meer."

Dabei soll laut Prospekt die Nachhaltigkeit - neben dem Ego des Kronprinzen - im Vordergrund stehen: "Keine Straßen, Autos oder Emissionen, sie wird mit 100 Prozent erneuerbarer Energie betrieben und 95 Prozent des Landes werden als Naturland bewahrt."

Dummerweise leben auch in dem eigentlich dünn besiedelten Gebiet Menschen, die dem Bau im Wege stehen. Die Morgenpost verweist in ihrem Bericht konkret auf zumindest 2 Menschen, denen der Widerstand das Leben gekostet hat. Sie verweist auf einen UN-Bericht , in dem auch konkrete Einzelschicksale behandelt werden. So wurde Shadly Al-Huwaiti  bereits 2020 auf der Farm seiner Familie wegen Terrorismusvorwürfen festgenommen und gefoltert. Um ein Geständnis zu erzwingen, soll er unter anderem mit Schlägen, Elektroschocks und Schlafentzug traktiert worden sein. Er wie auch andere in dem UN Bericht wurden zum Tode verurteilt.

Die UN-Berichterstatter zweifeln allerdings an den Terrorismusvorwürfen und schreiben: "Es hat den Anschein, dass sie alle nur für die legitime Ausübung ihres Rechts auf Meinungsfreiheit und freie Meinungsäußerung bestraft werden, weil sie ihren Protest gegen die geplanten Zwangsräumungen im Rahmen des NEOM-Projekts zum Ausdruck gebracht haben."

Auch BBC zitiert einen ehemaligen saudi-arabischen Offizier mit einer Anordnung zur Räumung der Region: "Wer sich weiterhin [der Räumung] widersetzt, sollte getötet werden, weshalb die Anwendung tödlicher Gewalt gegen die in ihrer Wohnung verbliebenen Personen genehmigt wurde."

Zwischen Realität und Wahnsinn

Nach Plan sollen irgendwann 9 Millionen Menschen in "The Line" wohnen, bis 2030 sollten es 1,5 Millionen sein, doch bis 2030 werden es wohl nur rund 300.000 Menschen sein und nur 2,4 der geplanten 170 Kilometer werden vielleicht bis dahin fertig sein. Und auch deutsche Firmen verdienen weiterhin an dem Projekt trotz der Kritik an den alltäglichen Menschenrechtsverletzungen.

But apple music decided to try to kill me after i put The Line from 21 pilots, following it with Billie Eilish, and when im already crying my eyes out because of like…. Its like “hey, have you heard this musical score by Hans Zimmer? Time.” Yay….

When my emotions are a little to much there's a mental place I like to go to: a hole in a graveyard.

Not because I want to die. But because it feels poetic and peaceful. Feeling the smell of fresh dirt while looking at the sky, maybe getting wet by the rain that falls on me. Sounds nice.
