A hat in time AU idea: Apocalypse Swap au (or just APswap au, wip).

Background: a sort of ahit swap au but with some Fallout shennanigans in between, this changes the roles of multiple characters while also putting a post apocalyptic spin on Hat Kid's origins as well as aging her up to her species equivalent of 15 years old.

The storyline however is very different as it brings back many cut characters and locations, passes character traits onto new ones and follows a combination of retail and cut content. It also explores Hat Kid's past and the actions leading up to her escape.

Calcite Characters:

Mustache Girl (real name: Jane, sirname unknown) is a local resident of the city of Calcite and an apprentice to Tim the CEO of Time, she mostly shares her canon personality but the trauma with the mafia is mostly removed (as I'm giving it to Bow Kid) due to being sheltered by Tim despite him lossing a Time Piece to the Lazy Paw Mafia Boss.

Bow Kid (real name: Laura Jennings Durr) is another local resident and a victim of the Lazy Paw's brutality as they imprisoned her and murdered her parents, she is probably one of the only denizens actively fighting the Lazy Paw using sabotage. This has led to gaining a few scratches here and there. Following Jane defeating the Lazy Paw boss Laura almost went the same way as retail Mustache girl with only Tim coming in at the last second promising the removal of the lazy paw if she helps Jane stopping her.

Hat Kid (real name: Penny Lesley Kiethman) is a space traveling alien from an unidentified planet escaping on a solar sail generation ship with under a million of her kind, her ship halts near Earth and she awakens from her cryo induced slumber only to find that her pod was the only one to open. She desperately heads down to Terra to find parts to fix her ship but gets fixated by the Time Pieces and she wishes one to fix up and power the reactor. Problem is that Jane won't hand one over...yeah you know where this is going. Following her defeat at Generations and Timelines Penny lays low for a while before saving Jane's life at the Arctic Town.

The Lazy Paw: a cat gang coming from an unidentified location that had decided to take over most of Calcite and basically took over their segmants governing council, they wrapped up warm for Calcites colder enviroment with fur and leather coats and are ruthless towards anyone who pisses them off. Their leader the Lazy Paw Boss was the one that personally killed Laura's parents and gouged out one of her eyes.

Goofy Paw (real name: Josef Fritz Verville) is a member of the Lazy Paw gang, while he is a reliable member he is also a cryptozoologist and a member of a local conspiracy theorist group made up of Lazy Paw members and locals. He is the first one to encounter Penny and was the one who reported to LP Boss about her.

Tim (full name Tim Davis Reginald) the CEO of Time, local somewhat insane person (although Oldster beats him by far), high ranking Timekeeper of the ACTT and a very eccentric individual. He is known for being very carefree but still takes his job seriously, his predessesor told him to not have a melt down. How he had a meltdown over not having a meltdown is beyond me but he wishes to fix it so he sends Jane out to put things right.

Sam the Detective: a detective that specialises in different factors and currently on the payrole of the Lazy Paw to look the other way while they committ the crimes they do, while Sam is somewhat Scummy the Lazy Paw do have his family hostage and he is a good, if somewhat scummy, person.

Oldster: an old senile man living in a dumpster, oldster was once a respected part of town but the Lazy Paw utterly destroyed him both physically, emotionally and financially. He was rendered a paranoid, decrepid old man.

Timekeeper Blu: a relatively experienced Timekeeper and proud of his job, he is a very joyful individual but can sometimes be too serious and even hostile. If someone unfamiliar even touches a Time Piece he can get very defensive. Blu takes Laura under his wing as an apprentice following the events of Generations and Timelines.

Lady Puella: A very experienced Time Keeper rumoured to be older than this current Timeline, Puella is a very strict keeper and is good at first response and at dealing with struggling or troublesome apprentices. She was also a first responder during the events of Arctic Town and following those events takes Penny under arrest and places her in the ACTT's youth reformatory program before taking Penny under her wing as an apprentice.

Theory on *that* character based on 2.2 story spoilers.

Major spoilers for CN servers, 1.9 and beyond: I think I have enough pieces and delulu to create this theory.

Idk to call this theory: uh Urd theory I guess?

Summary: If it is confirmed that people do not die physically in the Storm, Mr Duncan confirms that like places people are flung into different time periods and eras, then what if this is happening to Urd? Whatever she did has led to partial memory erasure of sorts that becoming a biographer has become a method to ensure part of her memory is retained.

(I would call this theory Generation Loss based ok the what happens to tapes maybe?)

This theory hopes to explain why multiple names are tied to the same pale blued haired blind woman who seems to appear everywhere in the game. More specifically explain the existence of Martha.

Heres a list of the different identities and their appearances:

Urd/ A friend from Afar/ Dolores: 100% confirmed to be the same individual, appeared in Brazil Sao Paulo, mentioned in both Rayashki and London (Rimet Cup). The Friend from Afar also makes frequent appearances in ingame email. Noted to be a doctor.

Besmert: appears in the 1.6 Notes on Shori, travelled for a while with Yensei to Pei City, had enough influence to recomend Yensei to join Team Timekeeper.

Martha: appears in 1.4,1.7 and 1.9 on the island of Aperion. She is hinted to be a recent member of the island and seemingly disappears in the 1914 Storm. Also acts as a doctor.

It is easy to connect Urd to Bessmert but harder to connect Martha to these identities since we explictly see her disappear into the Storm in 1.9. Yet suddenly shes back in 2.2 in Sao Paulo as a doctor (Maybe White Rum may have more info on Urd but until someone uploads her voicelines I cannot say).

My current running theory is that all of these are the same person, from Igor likely her true name (or in arcanist fashion this is the one she commonly goes by) is Urd and that she is Vertin's mother since mannerisms and appearances are so close to be just a coincidence.

But the real problem is her memory, Igor knows her, know she has done something that she changed her in some way and now in the eyes of Igor and the Manus has become someone that can change the fate of the world. She must have held a significant position in the Foundation to receive the marble chair as we know even individuals like Lucy as the head of Laplace and even Constantine do not directly speak to the White Marble House instead communicate through the doves sent to them.

The only info we have on Vertin's mother is the hostpital bed and the fact that the Foundation denies her existence.

Heres the theory:

What if when the Foundation says she doesn't exist this is quite literal as in they don't know she exists at all? But Igor knows? Lets remember Joe in 2.0 and the seemingly two Paulinas, the Storm erasure has a weird effect on how a person might be remembered, going back to my Mandela theory maybe Urd's existence from whatever happened to the white chair caused a swipe of her existence especially since she may as well been the epicentre of the first Storm. Characters like Greta Hoffman do note the foggy recollection of the Storm by those present and not taken by the Storm itself.

But what does that mean for Urd? I speculate Urd likely was a war or field medic if she was working closely with Zeno, evident in 2.2 she is caring for war veterans in Sao Paulo. If Urd is anything like Vertin, which in small ways alr we can say she is, whatever she did using the chair literally involved huges risks she believed necessary to end whatever conflict or goal she and Igor pursued, regardless of what happened to her.

Small hints suggest that: Urd pressed the button on the chair, nothing or something happened and afterwards she walked into the white house and that was the last Igor saw of her. What if this "white house" contained the hospital bed she and her mother were separated by? What if this all happened somewhere within the White Marble House that seemingly is well guarded and very high access is needed to enter?

What about Bessmert and Martha? If the Storm js capable of throwing people into different eras and completely overriding their current existence to change slightly like Mr Duncan, what if this is what happens to Urd? But she might be immune like Vertin? I predict that whatever happened with the white house has cause something to damage or alter her memory that recording everything is crucial?

What if Urd knew that her memory would be affected so greatly that becoming a biographer and writer for UTTU was a means to retain her identity and experiences. Maybe whether current her knows or not, as the Friend From Afar is her directly talking to Vertin. Maybe not fully aware of who exactly she is writing to but nevertheless compelled to write to Vertin?

Another theory or maybe this is adding on but Urd is directly responsible for the creation of the Storm, potentially as a means to resolve whatever conflict she and Zeno found themselves fighting and losing by 1999, a solution that would backfire so greatly now for 8 years the world constantly is faced with time going haywire? And if thats the case then Igor and Manus seeking and kidnapping her would make sense, they see her as the creator of the Storm (whether she remembers or not) and potentially want her tl create them at will.

Value Prop: Nomos Weltzeit

Introduction:

The Nomos Weltzeit hits way above its price point. Yes, it’s an expensive watch but when you look closely, and take the time to contemplate, you’ll see that it’s not out of line!  In this review, we delve into the value proposition, and overall appeal of the Nomos Weltzeit.

Design and Aesthetics:

The first glance at the Weltzeit reveals a simple yet refined look. Given its major complication, that says something about the person who wears it. The stainless steel case is carefully crafted in the manner where its form fits its function. It is elegantly understated, putting it in the company of Jaeger Le Coultre, and early Longines pieces. It’s an understated watch, and would likely pass unnoticed  among those looking for an expensive watch to grab. With a diameter of 39.9mm and a thickness of 10.85mm, the watch is a comfortable everyday wear, and will conveniently slip under a shirt cuff.  If you’re wearing short sleeves, a casual strap will tie it in with loafers & deck shoes or of course, your favourite pair of ‘Birkies’!

The white dial Ref 805 makes this watch a 20mm strap monster!  It doesn’t matter what texture (well perhaps not alligator, croc & lizard IMHO) or colour, it is going to feel the bomb! So, when you’re feeling a bit bored, just throw another strap on it and admire how it changed.

The standout feature of the Weltzeit is its world time complication. The outer ring of the dial showcases the 24 major time zones, each represented by a distinct city. The slender hour and minute hands offer legibility, and in a way gives it wings, and a rather Pan-Am ’esque feel ( well, it is a World Timer).

Functionality and Performance:

The world time function is the star of the show, allowing the wearer to effortlessly switch to different time zones with ease. The pusher at 2 o'clock enables quick adjustments to the city ring while simultaneously advancing the hour hand, jump transitioning from one time zone to another. Additionally, the 24-hour disc at 3 o'clock further enhances convenience by indicating “home” time. When you’re away, you don’t always need to know what time it is at home, so the ‘local’ time is seen with the primary dial and hands. The home time disc is discreet. It’s a simple function that’s there for when you need it most ( like getting the timing right for saying goodnight to the kids at home). You’ll never have to fiddle with the crown to switch time zones as you would with standard GMT’s, which has amazing intrinsic value as it removes a setting pain point.

Turn the watch over and you’re in for a surprise. It’s powered by the in-house Nomos caliber DUW 5201. The automatic movement is finely finished with “Glashutte” striping, thermally blued and black polished  screws visible through a sapphire porthole.  It’s not a chronometer rated movement but it doesn’t need to be. That alone keeps this watch ‘affordable’. You can expect it to get you where you need to go on time, or at least be an accurate indicator to your tardiness. With a power reserve of approximately 42 hours, the watch provides standard timekeeping duration before needing to be wound.

Comfort and Wearability:

Despite its complex functionality, the Weltzeit remains a comfortable timepiece for everyday wear. The watch sits comfortably on the wrist, thanks to its ergonomic case design, slim curved profile and reasonable lug to lug length. This watch is surprisingly light, considering its complications, which enhances the overall comfort, allowing for extended periods of wear without fatigue. You might even forget you have it on.

Value Proposition:

We’ve looked at a number of ways where the Weltzeit’s functionality, ease of use and unobtrusive design make it a stunning watch, but these things are mostly intrinsic values. Where does this watch stand in price comparison?

Well, there are not many players in this particular realm. Patek World Time models have a similar functional configuration but are conservatively +10X more. My room has significantly more shelves than it used to, because I have significantly more physical media than I used to. I’ve been buying up so many Blu-rays over the last couple of months because of an increased paranoia of losing access to certain movies and shows. Even before the current group heading Warner Brothers pulled that absolute bullshit with the Batgirl movie, I’d heard about this, and realized there are quite a few movies I have in my Apple TV collection that I don’t want to lose if a studio decided to pull their movies. Remember, when you buy something digitally, you don’t actually own it.

That and a slightly better income have allowed me to acquire and in many cases reclaim a lot of my favorite movies on Blu-ray. I have a wish list with the titles I intend to get, and it is long. You wouldn’t believe which titles are out of print or hard to find. Kate & Leopold, for instance. That Blu-ray is sold out and I’d have to pay a silly amount of money for a copy that meets my picky standards.

I also have finally gotten (almost) all of my books and Funko Pop’s back from RI. All that’s missing is:

-my copy of The Left Hand of Darkness (my dad borrowed it to read)

-the Star Wars Trilogy Bonus Material DVD (I found a copy of the 2011 Complete Saga Blu-ray set, aka the last pre-Disney, Lucas-supervised release of the original Star Wars movies, it was just missing the documentary Empire of Dreams, which is only on this DVD)

-and my copy of the original Titanic soundtrack CD (because the amazing 4-disc release of the complete score does not have The Song™, and I’m a completist)

I survived the recent heat wave due to knowing a couple folks with central air, working a day job in offices with central air, and taking cold night showers before bed. But yeah, 100+ degree weather for almost two weeks. Not good.

I was able to see The Timekeepers of Eternity, a movie I’ve been hearing about for a year, and I loved it. Essentially, someone took a not-great miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s The Langoliers from the ‘90s, printed it on black-and-white paper, edited it down from 3 hours to a single hour, and animated the paper itself. Words don’t do it justice, so here’s the trailer.

Oh and I figured out an idea for a Halloween costume this year. Hopefully I have the time and resources to actually pull it together.
