This is one of the Most episodes of all time. David Lynch takes the handles once again, and Twin Peaks fully commits to the surreal and horrifying. Lives are lost, relationships are forged and broken, and everything in this unassuming town that has been simmering after prom queen Laura Palmer’s murder finally goes to hell. Aside from the narrative, the whole episode is a technical highlight. If this finale is not the culmination of all the plot threads, it is the culmination of everything that makes Twin Peaks Twin Peaks. This is the one payoff we get for certain: we get to see Twin Peaks and the Black Lodge in all their weird, glory, and it’s an incredible world. And — wilder than ever could be expected — this episode culminated the popular, revolutionary series. On a cliffhanger. With the protagonist trapped in another dimension and a doppelgänger on his place. Which would not be resolved for the next 25 YEARS. There has never been a more dramatic, disturbing, absurd, visually striking, and seemingly unresolvable episode in television history, and there likely never will be again.
