"What's wrong?" Elide breathed
"Nothing—I mean, beyond what you already know."
Such cruelty. Such terrible, unforgivable cruelty.
Yrene coiled her magic back into herself, but kept her hands on Elide's ankle. "This injury would require weeks of work to repair, and with our current circumstances, I don't think either of us can undergo it." Elide nodded. "But if we survive this war, I can help you, if you wish."
"What would it entail?"
"There are two roads," Yrene said, letting some of her magic seep into Elide's leg, soothing the aching muscles, the spots where bone ground against bone with no buffer. The lady sighed. "The first is the hardest. It would require me to completely restructure your foot and ankle. Meaning, I would have to break apart the bone, take out the parts that healed or fused incorrectly, and then regrow them. You could not walk while I did it, and even with the help I could give you for the pain, the recovery would be agonizing." There was no way around that truth. "I'd need three weeks to take apart your bones and put them back together, but you'd need at least a month of resting and learning to walk on it again."
Elide's face had gone pale. "And the other option?"
"The other option would be to not do the healing, but to give you salve—like the one you said Lorcan gave you—to help with the aches. But I will warn you: the pain will never entirely leave you. With the way your bones grind together here"—she gently touched the spot on Elide's upper foot, then a spot down by her toes—"arthritis is already setting in. As the bones continue to grind together, the arthritis, that pain you feel when you walk, will only worsen. There may come a point in a few years-maybe five, maybe ten, it's hard to tell-when you find the pain to be so bad that no salve can help you."
"So I would need the healing then, regardless."
"It's up to you whether you want the healing at all. I only want you to have a better idea of the road ahead." She smiled at the lady. "It's up to you to decide how you wish to face it."
Yrene tapped Elide's foot, and the lady lowered it back to the floor before putting her sock back on, then her boot. Efficient, easy motions. Yrene sipped from her tea, cool enough now to drink. The fresh verve of the peppermint zapped through her, clearing her mind and calming her stomach.
Elide said, "I don't know if I can face that pain again."
Yrene nodded. "With that sort of injury, it would require facing a great many things inside yourself." She smiled toward the wagon entrance. "My husband and I just went through one such journey together."
"Was it hard?"
"Incredibly. But he did it. We did it." Elide considered, then shrugged. "We'd have to survive this war first, I suppose. If we live ... then we can talk about it."
"Fair enough."

Headcanon i can't get out of my head is Hazel and Percy dressing up as Gir and Johnny The Homicidal Maniac for halloween together and Hazel making herself a super cute detailed scene queen fit with a mix of stolen Gir merch and diy'd parts and Percy wearing an exact replica of Nny's outfit except instead of 'Z?' the chest says 'Pussy?'

blimu: As a performer, to what extent were you able to help develop the play during this development phase?
Andreas Bieber: The book/the music existed, but nobody had yet brought it to life in terms of performance, so that was our chance to get involved. A very important point about the work of director Harry Kupfer is that he didn't try to be pleasing. In musicals today, you want to create pieces that please the audience and don't offend anyone. But Kupfer didn't work like that. He had a very clear, often provocative approach. I miss that a bit today, because everything is very "ironed out". Harry Kupfer had a clear vision and it didn't matter to him whether the audience and critics liked it or not. And that is perhaps the key to success. Maybe that's why "Elisabeth" still works as well today as it did 20 years ago. He had a very clear concept and wanted to show these morbid and unattractive sides of Elisabeth in the play. Everything we don't know from "Sisi". And for him, it was always about the conflicts between the roles. With Rudolf, too, it was not about how he suffered at the hands of his mother, father and the system, but about what he was fighting for. Kupfer wanted to see every emotion expressed aggressively. In a rehearsal for 'Wenn ich dein Spiel wär', for example, I wanted to show Rudolf's distress, which he sings about. It was a horrible day, I remember: Harry Kupfer really "tortured" me, because he wanted the song and especially the line "Mother, I need you" to be more demanding than suffering. Well, of course he was absolutely right and I learnt an important lesson. This approach runs through the whole piece and makes it less pleasing. All the characters want to escape their suffering and don't get stuck in it. Escaping forwards is a good keyword here. We were able to play a good part in the development of the play, but many of the facts were fixed. There was the 'Mayerling Waltz' which, as it was intended, had to be retained. Uwe's costume as Death in this scene could not be changed either, because it was supposed to be a mixture of the character of Death and a part of Mary Vetsera (Marie Freiin von Vetsera, editor's note), which resulted in this dress. These things were finalised. But the movement sequence for the 'Mayerling Waltz', before Death gives Rudolf the kiss of death and shoots him, was developed by me and Uwe together with Dennis (Callahan) - and so we incorporated a lot of ourselves into this scene. It was always a give and take and we inspired each other in this work.

As much hate as the boat gets I think it works for this scene even if they overdo the pillows a bit. Maybe no pillows would have been better given that little Rudolf is supposed to be getting a harsh military education.

I need to make more Tower of Dawn posts because this book is better than I thought (and I went in with decent expectations)
but for right now I just need to cry scream for a second because THE CHARACTER ARCS AND DEVELOPMENT just perfection utterly beautiful and I love every single one so much I get all teared up every dang time
especially right now what’s getting me; which is Chaol finally understanding Aelin, and talking about her, and Rowan. And THEN with Yrene. AND THEN then their ship speech! AND AND AND THEN her talking about Aelin and not even knowing it & them both thanking her (they gonna help get our girl home I just know it and that reunion realization is gonna be so worth it) !

Does Rudolf have a mustache and beard in your fics? I was looking at pictures of him on google.
Short answer no. For Mirrorverse in particular I 'cast' Oliver Arno as both Rudolf and Tod.
