This publicity photo for “Carrotblanca” 1995, directed by Doug McCarthy, was taken from the film’s introduction of Bugs Bunny as he channels film legend, Humphrey Bogart. This was one of the shots I animated for the short, which brought me to Los Angeles.

18 Books read in 2024 - more than the 10 previous years combined! Quite proud, tbh.
Bret Easton Ellis led me to Dennis Cooper led me to Alison Rumfitt led me back to Clive Barker...
My mum introduced me to James Baldwin, a friend lent me Laura Palmer's diary.
Dennis Cooper's Frisk shook me to the core, and I love it for that!
The only book I didn't love was Mother Howl by Craig Clevenger. Too heavy on 'society is unfair'-aspects, without any balance or payoff. I am aware that bureaucracy ruins lives and ACAB - give me something more within 400 pages, please.
The only book I didn't finish was Toni Morrison's Beloved - not because I disliked it! I guess I'm not 'fluent in metaphor' enough to keep up with her style, yet. I'll give it another go in a year!
I want to live inside Bret Easton Ellis' The Shards! I am a sucker for his style, the glamorization of drugs, the 80s and nihilism - they're all broken addicts, but there's great music playing, so who cares! (Icehouse is a beautiful song - thanks for introducing me, Bret!)

“The cynicism that regards hero worship as comical is always shadowed by a sense of physical inferiority. Invariably, it is the man who believes himself to be physically lacking in heroic attributes who speaks mockingly of the hero.” - Yukio Mishima, ‘Sun & Steel’ (1968)

“Men are born for games. Nothing else. Every child knows that play is nobler than work. He knows too that the worth or merit of a game is not inherent in the game itself but rather in the value of that which is put at hazard. Games of chance require a wager to have meaning at all. Games of sport involve the skill and strength of the opponents and the humiliation of defeat and the pride of victory are in themselves sufficient stake because they inhere in the worth of the principals and define them. But trial of chance or trial of worth all games aspire to the condition of war for here that which is wagered swallows up game, player, all.” - Cormac McCarthy, ‘Blood Meridian, or, the Evening Redness in the West’ (1985)

If a I Dream of Jeannie movie came out in the 90s, Valeria Mazza, Charlotte Ross, Natasha Henstridge or Izabella Scorupco and David Schwimmer, Jonathan Silverman, Andrew McCarthy or Jason Bateman would be the best Jeannie and Maj. Tony Nelson in the movie.

UNFROSTED (2024) Grade: D
Very funny, even though it's only 90 min it felt 2x as long. A couple jokes saved it from a F grade. I see what they wanted to do, poorly executed.

#Unfrosted, which arrives on Netflix on Friday, is easily one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while and it was great to talk with Spike Feresten about reuniting with Jerry Seinfeld to tell the story of Pop-Tarts.
At Consequence or podcasts.
