I had this AU archived off my accounts for a few years, but I'm thinking about it a lot more these days so I'm digging it up for sketches.

This is Kudari from Codebreaker, functionally the starting antagonist for the story when Emmet accidentally collides with him and takes parts of his body.

For a little debrief, the main idea of Codebreaker is that Emmet discovers that he exists in a false reality, and that there is a parallel plane where all of the instructions for his reality exist. He finds his way to this plane by accident after walking back from another lonely day at work, and is hellbent on learning how to manipulate it in the hopes that he can recover Ingo with that knowledge. Kudari is his own set of instructions, who he partly dismantles, allowing him to actually interact with the code. This leaves a hollowed out shell that starts trying to find his own way to get his body back from Emmet.

I'd been thinking about the Beta Submas leaks which lead me to sketching him again. Here's the first rough warmup sketch I did with a fight between him and Emmet.

From there I just started reworking his old design to be worse 💀

I've seen a couple posts now talking about the concept of an AU where Vox somehow gains control over Alastor's soul/contract. While I do agree with the common take that he'd probably try to mind control Alastor or break his spirit at first, I think he'd actually get bored of that pretty quickly. Alastor's appeal is all in his personality; putting him in a situation where he just shuts down and stops giving the reactions that make him who he is would lose its novelty for Vox within a month or two.

Imo, from there I see it turning into a "gilded cage" situation. Vox sets up a nice little club for Alastor to live in; it's classy and Alastor is free to do what he pleases with it, but he cannot leave and whatever Vox says goes. It's a kind of faux freedom that's just tolerable enough for him not to go insane, but just restrictive enough that he still feels like some kind of pet. Vox isn't physically around that often, but he's always watching; Alastor's free to make his own choices, but can only chose from a small, pre-approved set of options. It's actually not too dissimilar to the situation he put his own contractees in, and Alastor loathes that fact.

The source of the infectious unique magic was right in the heart of Diasomnia, a pocket dimension. Yet the magic still spread far beyond that of the single dorm, soon covering the entirety of Sage Island. Lia saw the readings on her monitor back at Styx when it happened, but... Even that wasn't enough to prepare her for the view of the aftermath. It would take a lot of work to remove these dead vines and magic residue... But that wasn't her job, was it?

No, her job right now was to go back to school, apparently. Ridiculous given that she couldn't even use magic right now... But there was one bright side.

Lia slowly made her way towards Ramshackle, relying on her crutches to get her there. She hadn't told anyone she was coming back to school, so she hoped it won't be too much of a surprise to Garth when he sees her... Especially now that she looked different. But she made her way to his dorm nonetheless, wanting to see him first before anything else.

As she came closer to Ramshackle dorm, she could make out a figure standing by the fence. It was too dark outside to make out any details, but from the silhouette alone she knew exactly who it was. So Lia tried to pick up the pace some to reach him.

i don't think i'll ever feel at home in the aspec community. and the worst part is that i know they don't do it intentionally. i know you didn't mean to hurt me when you assumed i was asexual just cuz i said i was aromantic, but i want you to understand that 10 other people have made that same assumption this week and i am tired. i know you didn't mean anything bad by it when you recommended that book "about being aspec" to me, you probably didn't realize that one of the characters was a pretty blatant aroallophobic stereotype. i know that you tag every aspec post as "aroace" and that you aren't trying to derail or mistag a post about being aroallo. i know a lot of you like to think you "support" aroallos.

that's why it hurts that you don't listen. that's why it hurts when you speak over us. it hurts that none of you bother actually making the aspec community a place that isn't actively hostile towards aroallos.

There is nothing more frightening than loving someone with no desire to live. Any time Garth was upset, Lia feared this would be his breaking point. That if she left his side, he would do something irreversible. And for someone who rarely ever felt fear, it was a startling emotion. To love someone is to be in constant pain... She thought she remembered her father saying that once in her childhood. She now understood.

" I'm not leaving you alone like this... " He was right; Lia didn't know what to do. She didn't know how to make him feel better. Try as she may, two wrongs don't make a right. How could she, a broken person, try to make Garth feel whole? All she could really offer him was her company, and what good was that? Lia knew she made terrible company. She wasn't so oblivious as to believe otherwise.
