Not Tolkien related, but I'm actually lowkey proud of how this self portrait embroidery is going 🤩 Ignore the eyes being proportionally and directionally "off" lol, and the too-long nose/anatomical mistakes. I'm more focusing on learning "thread painting" techniques than exact and accurate anatomy representation (or at least, that's my excuse 😅)

Also I chose to do a self portrait bc at the time of needing a reference photo to practice embroidered portraits, I have, in fact, the face most readily available to me lol

Wayfinder Trio (+Plus Vanitas) and their aces

Honestly, these aren't as deep as the other mix-and-match themes I've done for KH characters; more so based on vibes and the Pokemons' type and temperament than anything deeply lore related. However...

Vanitas' Grimsnarl honestly came to me before any other Pokemon- even when I laid eyes on it, I knew it'd be a Vanitas Pokemon (I even named my own Grimsnarl Vanitas lol) Something about it being what's essentially a 'fairy tale monster' and Vanitas kind of being that as well.

The Togetic Ventus has is something that was not my own, but @rosie-kairi 's idea- one that I thought fit him so, so, so very well. A little kid who has no friends, having a friendship-based evolution line- as well as an egg Pokemon representing his young age and growing up into his potential. Perfection.

For Terra, I searched up Ground Types on Bulbapedia hoping to strike something; I wanted a Ground/Dark type, but only found Krookodile. Then I remembered that Tyrannitar was what I was looking for with its Rock/Dark typing and pseudo-legendary status, since Terra probably single-handedly the strongest Keybarer alive currently (not accounting Luxu).

I tried to avoid starters for their Pokemon, but honestly, I felt Primarina was perfect for Aqua. A Water/Fairy type with a graceful look. If not for Primarina, I would have given Aqua a Gardevoir as her ace instead. Though she still probably has one on her team.

I really like your art and how the color schemes seem to match the personalities of the characters. They always look so crisp with the right amount of style on character positioning.

I always thought it was really cool how you managed to have so much detailed backstories and world building, alongside managing to create pictures and comics to go along with the chapters and stories you write. It has been really inspirational!

Although, funny, enough, I have been thinking about asking you if you had any preferences on sources to start researching universal aviation codes and the differences in between civilian and military planes, jets, helicopters, and airships, and which you think might sound better when used by militaries vs civilians. I think I am going to have to do a lot of studying on IATA, ICAO, PAT, Mode-S, VFR, and transponders, as well as codes used in towered vs non towered airports. I feel like I am going to have to do a lot of study on aviation and plane/jet/drone schematics for future chapters.

Hama the Rosalia She specializes primarily in Yo-Nin Jutsus and Poisons. Yo-Nin is all about infiltrating the enemy in plain sight, she doesn't try to hide, it's all about blending into the background, disguising herself, and making the enemies think she's harmless and overlook her while she gathers information, plants incriminating evidence, or takes somebody out with Poison.

Lotus the Lombre He specializes primarily in Genjutsu. Genjutsu is all about messing with the enemies head psychologically and with illusions and hallucinations. He will pose as a traveling musician and put on an act of being clueless and friendly to win over unsuspecting enemies and then get into their heads to get them to give over valuable information or spread paranoia and distrust within enemy ranks. If he needs to get away fast he can disappear in Water or Fog.

Calyx the Nuzleaf He specializes primarily in In-Nin Jutsu and Ninpo Taijutsu. In-nin is exactly what people traditionally think of when they picture Ninja techniques: Sneaking around under the cover of night to remain undetected. Clean entry, Clean getaway. He will use height to his advantage climbing trees buildings and walls to leave no tracks and can easily get a drop on his enemies, attacking from above when they are alone to knock them out fast and then returning to a high perch.

every time i hear anything art-related on tiktok, i immediately get really like... upset? annoyed? idk. unpleasant feeling because it's literally always "we're making fun of this child/beginner for their anatomy or how they color" or whatever else or pretending that an artists deserve to be treated like a piece of corporate media.

i know tiktok is literally the devil and hell incarnate, but i don't think any artist deserves to be targets of mass harassment especially not people who are just starting out (and even more especially not children).

if tiktok was a thing when i was younger and i was posting my art on there, i would never fucking draw ever again. my art career would've ended after a few months of drawing "seriously," and i really do mean it lol. call me sensitive or whatever, but a 13-15 year old does not need to hear whatever criticism you think they need to hear i promise.

i feel like when people learn to draw people in a stylized way (like “anime style” in middle school or any other imitation of a cartoon style) we spend so much time perfecting stylized faces and neck placement but so frequently just gloss over HOW the head and neck connect to each other, especially the neck. and that’s how we end up with basically no “anime style” or commonly-seen stylized art that depicts double chins or loose skin or any facial features that are extremely common.

it’s something i certainly never spent much time drawing until the past year or so. knowing how the head and neck connect is a really important skill when you’re trying to draw people, and it’s something i always struggled with until i started to focus more on drawing people’s necks differently rather than just their head and face shape. we as artists spend so much time trying to perfect the face, but the neck affects the face so much. the neck has so much character.

and, of course, the reason you never see people draw double chins is because they’re considered “ugly,” which is of course a result of a beauty standard based around thinness and a hatred for fat people. obviously not everyone’s neck looks the same, and stylized art doesn’t have to be as realistic as possible, but it’s frustrating to see so few depictions of double chins, especially when artists go out of their way to try and draw the rest of fat bodies as well as possible. i think there’s a discussion to be had about how a lot of artists online nowadays draw so many more diverse body types (which is wonderful!), but there’s still such little variation in neck shape, because the neck affects how the face looks.

this is a really long way of saying the neck is a really cool part of the body that i think we as artists don’t take enough advantage of!!
