Chapter 4: Calculated Risks Shadow the Hedgehog x reader Warnings: swearing
3:45 AM – Warehouse Hideout
The stolen G.U.N. assets lay sprawled across the table, stacks of high-value data drives, encrypted documents, and access credentials that were worth more than gold on the black market. Avia leaned back against the cool metal wall, arms crossed, eyes flickering across the team. They had pulled it off, but it had been too close. Shadow had nearly caught them.
Scar paced near the table, cracking her knuckles. “I still can’t believe we got out of there in one piece. You really had to go and flirt with him mid-fight, huh?”
Avia rolled her eyes. “It was a distraction. And it worked.”
Scar smirked. “Yeah, but now he’s going to remember you. Maybe even hunt you.”
Zero, still typing away at his laptop, barely glanced up. “We should assume he’s already started.”
Avia exhaled sharply. She knew that better than anyone. Shadow wasn’t one to let things slide. If anything, her stunt back at the bank would make him dig even deeper. But the important part was that he had no idea who she was.
Scar plopped onto the couch, tossing a data chip between her fingers. “The real question is—what now? We got their money, but G.U.N. isn’t just gonna take this lying down.”
Zero’s fingers didn’t stop moving. “They’re already sweeping the city. My feeds are picking up multiple strike teams mobilizing.” He finally looked up, eyes sharp. “And they’re not just looking for the stolen goods. They’re looking for us.”
Avia tensed. “Then we go dark for a while. Let the heat die down.”
Scar raised a brow. “And what about Prototype X-09?”
That was the real issue, the real reason they had made a move against G.U.N. The money was just a means to an end. The real prize was understanding what G.U.N. was hiding—what kind of weapon they were planning to unleash.
Avia tapped the table thoughtfully. “We intercepted their funds, which means delays. But we still don’t know what X-09 is.” She turned toward Zero. “How much were you able to pull before we had to bail?”
Zero plugged in one of the stolen drives, his screen filling with lines of code and heavily encrypted files. “Not much. G.U.N. really doesn’t want people knowing about this project.” He narrowed his eyes, fingers gliding over the keys. “But… there’s something. I can break through it, but it’ll take time.”
Scar sighed, leaning her head back. “Great. More waiting.”
Avia wasn’t convinced they had that luxury. Shadow wouldn’t stop, not until he figured out who they were. She had seen the look in his eyes before they escaped—the calculation, the intensity. He knew she wasn’t just another mercenary.
And that was a problem.
4:15 AM – G.U.N. Headquarters
Shadow stood before the monitor in the war room, arms crossed, crimson eyes locked onto the surveillance footage from the bank. The fight replayed in slow motion—every movement, every detail, every split-second decision. His opponent was skilled. Too skilled.
Rouge sat on the edge of the table, arms folded. “You keep watching that, and you’re gonna burn a hole through the screen.”
Shadow didn’t answer, his focus unwavering. The way she moved… precise, calculated. She had known how to disable Omega. Had known exactly how to bait him into a vulnerable position. And then there was her escape. Efficient. No hesitation. It all pointed to training—elite training.
But who was she?
Rouge smirked. “Still thinking about your little mystery girl?”
Shadow turned to her, unamused. “She’s not ‘mine.’”
Rouge waved a hand. “Relax, I’m just saying—it’s obvious she’s not some common thief. She knew what she was doing.”
Shadow’s eyes flickered back to the screen. “She’s ex-G.U.N. or something close to it.”
Rouge tilted her head. “You really think so?”
Shadow nodded. “She was too precise. Knew how to counter Omega. Knew how I would react.” He exhaled. “This wasn’t her first time going up against our tactics.”
Omega’s mechanical voice rumbled from across the room. “RECOMMEND IMMEDIATE TERMINATION OF ALL SUSPICIOUS INDIVIDUALS.”
Rouge rolled her eyes. “Real subtle, Omega.”
Shadow rewound the footage to the moment she had spoken to him, her words still lingering in his mind. You gonna kiss me or something, handsome?
It had been a taunt. A distraction. But in that moment, her expression had been unreadable—playful, but measured. She had calculated her next move before he had even reacted. That level of control wasn’t common.
Rouge noticed his silence and smirked. “She really got under your skin, didn’t she?”
Shadow ignored her, his fingers tightening into a fist. “We find her. And when we do, I’ll make sure she tells me everything.”
3:55 AM – Rooftop Overlook
The city stretched out below Avia, neon lights flickering in the distance as the early morning air bit at her skin. The team was still back at the hideout, resting, but she needed space to think.
Shadow was going to come for them. That much was certain. But as long as he didn’t know her identity, they had the upper hand. For now.
She pulled out a small, old photograph from her pocket. The edges were worn, the image slightly faded—a glimpse of a past life. One she had walked away from long ago.
G.U.N. thought they could bury their secrets. That they could erase the past. But Avia wasn’t done yet.
She clenched the photo in her fist before tucking it away. Shadow would chase her, but he was missing the most important piece of the puzzle.
He didn’t know who she was.
And as long as she kept it that way, she still had the advantage.
6:30 AM – Warehouse Hideout
The sun had barely risen, casting an orange glow over the hideout as I stepped into the main room. The rest of the team was scattered around, still groggy from sleep. Viper sat at the table, sipping coffee with a lazy expression. Zero leaned against the wall, arms crossed, and Nova was fiddling with a small vial of something that probably shouldn’t be spilled.
I clapped my hands together. “Alright, guys, I have our next move.”
A few tired eyes turned toward me, some more interested than others. Zero raised an eyebrow. “I thought you wanted us to stay hidden until shit calmed down?”
“Well, change of plans,” I said, smirking.
I let the tension build for a moment before finally saying, “Our next mission is to kidnap Shadow the Hedgehog.” I smiled, hoping for agreement.
A beat of silence. Then—
“WHAT?!”
Scar walked in, stretching her arms above her head as she let out a yawn. “Good morning, people.”
Without missing a beat, Zero smirked and said, “Scar, Avia wants us to kidnap Shadow.” he says snickering while eating a piece of bacon.
Scar froze mid-step, eyes going wide. Then, without hesitation, she spun back around and started walking toward her room. “Good night, everyone.”
I blinked in confusion and sassily said, “Where are you going?”
Scar’s voice called from inside her room. “Back to sleep! I’m not gonna help you kidnap a man to get dick—there are other ways for this!”
Rolling my eyes, I marched over and dragged her back out.
Scar groaned, rubbing her eyes. “I blame Nova. Did you sniff one of her weird potions again and start hallucinating?”
Nova blinked. “Um… no? I wasn’t making any illusion potions this time… I think.”
Viper groaned and rubbed her temples. “Maybe we should stop letting her go up to the roof. The smoke fumes from the chimney's are making her crazy.”
Zero, suddenly burst into laughter. “There is no way you are this down bad for a man, or maybe its just him who caught your eye” he says wiggling his eyebrows.
I rolled my eyes. “Listen, he may have information that can help us.”
Viper leaned over and whispered to Scar, barely holding in a snicker, “Yeah, like his phone number.”
The two of them erupted into laughter.
I shot them an annoyed glare. “Guys, just huddle up.”

Once again…this is an UNRELIABLE NARRATOR. nothing in this chapter is fucking cutesy. I was pissed writing this and thinking it’s giving off ‘manic-pixie-dream-girl.’ I'm saying it again: this is not romantic. What is happening in this chapter is destructive and fucking dangerous. You close and lock your apartment door the second you walk in.
The deadbolt clicks. Three distinct sounds - snick, thud, silence. Perfect prime.
Call him. Call the damn publisher. You can do this in 3 days. 3. Genius, Genius,Genius. Odd. Prime. Fibonacci. You open your laptop— No. Before you do, make sure the numbers can hear you first. Fingers are twitching already, yearning to write this genius piece done, and immortalize him like the god you are. Zero, 1, 1, 2. Slide your notepad beside you. 2,3,5. The notepad hits the desk at exactly 5:03 PM. The clock’s digits vibrate - 5 and 3, both primes, both yours. No one can hold you back now.
You are a god, unleashed. Taking your pencil from the pen cup (chewing at a 13° angle) scratches everything you saw, you felt, you remembered. His order at the bar: Bourbon, neat. The brand of cigarettes he smoked: Gauloise Blonde. Blonde. Like his hair. 3,5,8. The box was blue, like the eye you could see, the one that wasn’t behind those shaggy, yet neated strands. Draw him, see him. 5,8,13. Smell him on the clothes he gave you. You can’t. He's not there. The clothes smell simply of lavender detergent—write that down. Write that down. That’s how the love interest's bed is going to smell. That’s how it smells without them, without love .
8,13,21.
The numbers heard you too.
Hour 2:
Don’t call him. Not yet. Get the proof you even felt love first.
Dig through the wreckage. Pull out the moments that mattered. Remember his hands—how they cradled your neck like something sacred, like a rosary of bone and breath. The way he touched you like he was praying into your skin. How he fit inside you like a missing puzzle piece you didn’t know you’d lost. The solution. The sin.
Know it. Hold it. Prove to yourself there was even a romance to tell. Not projection. Something real. His lips on yours, the blood that thundered to your core, the heat that wrapped around you like a fever dream. Write it. Every breathless second. Every tremor. Every quiver. Make them feel it. Make them ache for it. Make yourself yearn for it again.
Immortalize him.
Write it.
Hour 5:
The first line finally hits the page. Three pages before that were filled with drawings on your notepad, not of him, not exactly. Trying to note the way the lighter would reflect your face when you saw it, how it saw his face many times, how it made angles. How it played with the light, and how you wanted to see how he saw it. Have his eyes. Feel his skin as yours. How it seemed to remember him, even when he wasn’t there. 8, 13, 21… They echo in your skull like a holy chant. Proof of pattern. Proof of fate. Proof that this love, this madness, was written into the universe before you ever touched him. He is the muse, Unreachable, unknowable. You're the artist. You’ll bleed the ink onto the canvas. Let it scab into story.
Hour 9:
You tear a page out, crumbling it and throwing it into the pile, where 20 other pages lay. There’s still one line on your computer, the one you wrote two..no. four hours ago. Your notepad, low on pages and close to you meeting its cardboard back, was filled with spirals, and the way those spirals met his proportions. You’d mapped him like a blueprint, sketched out in fragments. His face, roughly ten inches from brow to chin. His hands, always covering that face when he was frustrated or flustered. If his hand could eclipse that entire distance, then the hand and the face must match in scale.
Now…his cock.
You bite your lip, humiliated by your own math. Eyebrow width equals palm width. Palms equal penis, supposedly. That’s the folklore. That’s the science. That’s the curse of the desperate. You’re calculating him in inches like you’re solving an equation for god. For yourself.
Hour 12:
There's a spiral in your scalp.
Twirling, Twisting. The pattern you finger follows against the strand of hair hanging over your face. Tug. Tug again when the thought gets stuck in your head.
Loop it. Tighten it. Let the tension sing. Tug. Release the pain.
Repetition breeds clarity. Repetition breeds divinity.
You are rewiring the world strand by strand.
Hour 13:
The roots sting now. Good. It means it's working. The pain flares behind your eyes, a bloom of light, like a camera flash, like a vision. Your scalp is red. Raw. Holy.
You look down. Strands, inches of hair —curled like commas, like questions in your palm. You stare at them too long.
He touched me like this..right?
Did he ever tell me how it felt, how it tasted?
You don’t answer. You just pull again. Harder.
Your body, trembling.
It’s not self-harm if it’s ritual. It’s not pain if it’s prophecy.
Its prayer.
Bleed for me, genius. Bleed for him.
The pencil breaks.
Good. Now you can sharpen it again.
Hour 15:
It’s just the pressure.
The pressure is the point. Your nails on skin. This is what he felt. You could go even further, drag them down, whilst keeping pressure. Release the ink from your skin.
Exhilaration.
The ink that is pouring out at you dip onto your finger. The finger writing and dipping into that ink. The writing that is divine scripture.
Holy? No—your mortal body weeping. The divine ink oozing through where your nails pressed. The roots of the hair cling to your fingers and stick, the papilla gluing it to your hands, as to show you what you’ve done. Look at it, look at what you’re doing. Shameful, shameful,shame—You’re innocent.
Innocent. Innocent. Ignore the stomach growing. You don’t need to eat— you need to write. You need to keep staying here. Stay in the place where you can work right.
Romance will fucking sell this time.
Hour 5 8 13 21
You don’t love him. You love the way he fits your plot.
The way he walked into your life and took you out of that bar. Your savior.
No. Nononononononono no no no NO. He isn’t the savior. You are. He 's him. He 's beautiful. His beauty. Remember his beauty, and the mask you made. The mask that made you beautiful. The mask. The porcelain mask. Draw it, describe it. How it was warm and white, how it was what you saw in him.

Tape it. Tape the papers on the wall. Don’t let anyone else but you see it.
The clock melts against the wall, your world becoming a beautiful Dali painting. Beautiful. His hands. His neck. His hands, again. The notepad faced you with its cardboard back, empty on pages.
4:03 AM, the last words you read on your clock. 3. tap tap. Your hands, 5 fingers. Tug,tug,tug. 8 paragraphs on your computer written. Drip, drip, drip, drip,drip. 3+5=8. Fibonacci.
He’s calling you. No.
He’s warning you.
Hour 40
The wall. The melted clock.
HIS COCK = 1.618 x HIS PALM.
The numbers lied.
1,3,5,7,9,11,13,17,19,21. A pattern of the Gods. Any and all odd numbers are proof of divine being. There 's no lie. Just a missing piece.

Then the sounds you made together—flattened into syllables, played backward, holy tongues.

A voice whispers to you, Fibonacci in your brain. He came to give you a message.
“I won’t stop. I’m listening.” you replied. “I’ll make him immortal.”
Hour 60:
The blood on your fingertips draw spirals over you. Your–no. HEr– The body is tear-ridden, releasing holy fluids like water. the spirals forming on you was just more proof of perfection.
The laptop hums. The manuscript stares. Blank. Hungry.
You wrote yourself into a corner and ate the map.
You are God. But gods are tired. Gods rot too.
The room pulses with leftover vision.
The wallpaper still breathes. But it doesn’t open for you anymore. It just watches. Mocking.
MOcking your quick F4Ll fR0m gRACE.
The numbers won’t line up. The gods won’t answer. Its gone cold. stale.
And Sanji?
He’s not here. He never was.

Document autosaved at 5:38 AM.
It’s there. All of it. Pages upon pages. Spiral after spiral. Blood, ink, breath.
You should be relieved. You should weep with joy. You should feel god again.
But you don’t.
You scroll through the words. You read one line. Then another.
“No. No no no no no—this isn’t it.”
The syntax is wrong. The rhythm doesn’t chant. The numbers feel… flat. Sanji feels flat.
He’s not him. This isn’t how he touched you. This isn’t how he entered you.
This isn’t how he burned.
You slam your fingers against the keys.
You shake the mouse, scream at the screen.
“YOU DIDN’T SAVE HIM RIGHT!”
The screen says nothing.
You highlight a paragraph. Your fingers shake and hover over the backspace button. Delete it.
He’s not enough.
You’ll need to find someone new.
There’s no strength left anymore. Soaked, trembling, gone.

hey , I think you may have saw the spoiler for the chapter 21 and to be honest I’m disappointed if that is how Sarada even realises her feeling towards Boruto like come on . She was supposed to be girls girl but now I have the feeling that she will drop everything and stares to attack sumire like with her other friends and worser she may actually end up with him as this shows to be such a fanservice bullshit . Ughhhhhhh
Eh I wouldnt go that far, I dont think shes gonna attack Sumire over it, she's either gonna apologize to Sumire and admit she likes Boruto too or shes gonna tell Sumire she doesnt like him and will be more supportive of her feelings from now on.
Either way it doesnt really matter tho cuz the damage to Sarada's character is already done, a confession or non confession isnt gonna change that, it'll only please BoruSara fans who'll finally have the confirmation they desperately craved because they couldnt stand only BoruSumi being semi canon, they'll take this as a win even though Boruto doesnt have to reciprocate, they dont care, as long as BoruSumi isnt the only semi canon one anymore.
That aside, Sarada's MS awakening and reawakening are both ass, neither one of them can be taken seriously because of how half assed both were handled.
Sarada awakens her MS simply from crying and worrying about Boruto, which is not how the MS awakens, it takes actual loss, the DEATH of a loved one, to trigger the MS awakening, but conveniently Sarada just bypassed that requirement and just got it from crying for daddy to save Boruto.
Thats strike one.
She reawakens her MS after Yodo is killed, a rando she hasnt had a single conversation with until now and even then they barely spoke cuz Yodo was being hot headed and impatient the entire time, but even Yodo dying didnt push her to reawaken her power, neither was her comrades getting bodied all around her, nah it wasnt until Yodo told her she has a secret power shes been holding back and that its ok to use it for just Boruto and not the greater good, THEN Sarada reawakens her MS.
Strike 2.
She concludes that to unleash her full power to be able to protect everyone and become Hokage, she needs to accept her feelings for Boruto.
Strike 3 she's out.
Keep in mind she found out her father is trapped in a tree, she knew her best friend Chocho was in active serious danger, her village was invaded not once but twice where ppl were dying and turning into trees, Sumire and Konohamaru were both getting bodied while protecting her, Mitsuki and Araya were giving their all attacking Ryu and getting critically wounded
And none of that, I repeat, NONE OF THAT pushed her to unleash her MS, not one of those things made her give her all, none of that gave her the push to go all out, apparently only being told that its ok to use her hidden power for just Boruto was the push she needed, to hell with everybody else.
Ppl fail to realize that her just saying she wants to be Hokage and protect everyone means nothing if we're shown her main motivation is Boruto, not the ppl she claims she wants to protect, she can say she wants to be Hokage like Naruto all she wants, but if she only gives af about Boruto and only wants to really fight for him then nobodies taking her seriously.
I get the feeling Ikemoto killing Yodo for Sarada's 'reawakening' MS was to make up for how he fked up her initial awakening, so he tried to 'correct' it with her reawakening by actually killing someone this time, and yet he STILL got it wrong because he killed someone who had zero relationship with Sarada for her death to make any real impact on her to justify an MS reawakening.
Theres alot I would change but lma just work with what Ikemoto gave us so bare with me.
What SHOULD have happened was Yodo and Araya should've been taken hostage while Mitsuki and Sarada were left standing, Ryu demands them to give intel on Boruto and they both refuse since they know its a trap, Mitsuki tries to give Sarada an opening to free Yodo and Araya but is impaled [Mitsuki wouldnt die as easily as Yodo since he has fast healing] and Mitsuki is the one who gives Sarada the speech.
Not the same speech tho, lets say Mitsuki says along the lines of referring back to chapter 69, when he asked her if ones true feelings are hard to tell.

Lets say he refers back to that, how he said that they are gonna have to get alot stronger if their going to take on powerful Otsutsuki and how Sarada hasnt really done that, how instead shes just been stagnant this whole time, wavering, unsure of herself, unaware of her own feelings and her own power.
He says he knows why it is he fights and wants to be strong, what hes fighting to protect, the thing that matters most to him is his sun, and then he poses the question to Sarada, why does SHE fight? for what reason does SHE want to be strong? what does it mean to be hokage for her? if she cant even answer that then how does she expect to be able to protect anyone.
Lets say Mitsuki takes it a bit further, lets just say he does, he brings up how she said that to the hokage, everyone in the village is family, and right now her 'family' needs her, she's the ONLY ONE who can help them now, so what is she gonna do?
Obviously all of this is on the fly but you get the gist, basically instead of some rando like Yodo being the push it was Mitsuki, and instead of him pushing her to only fight for Boruto, he pushes her to stop wavering and step up to the plate, to fill the Hokage role she says she wants to fill. Her seeing Mitsuki seemingly 'die' would make sense that it'd have a strong impact on her cuz thats her teammate, shes close with him and cares about him, so of course seeing him 'die' and his words of encouragement would have a way bigger impact than someone shes never once spoken to before now.
But unfortunately we cant have nice things like that, so instead we got what we got which doesnt make a danm bit of sense in the context that was laid out. Sarada has hands down the worst MS awakening and first use out of every single Uchiha before her, she made her clans biggest power up into a joke that only needs you to cry harder and just fight for a boy to unleash 🤦♀️ foh man.

After the Version 1.5 update goes live, the buff effects of Critical Node are as follows:
Phase I:
Increases Agent CRIT DMG by 20%.
Every time an Agent triggers Quick Assist, all squad members' ATK increases by 10% for 15s, stacking up to 4 times. Repeated triggers reset the duration.
Phase II:
Agents' Fire and Ice DMG is increased by 20%.
Chain Attack DMG increases by 40%, and triggering Chain Attack will recover 10 Energy.
Phase III:
Increases Agent Impact by 15%.
Hitting an enemy with Chain Attack reduces their DEF by 25% for 10s. Repeated triggers reset the duration.

● Optimized the text descriptions of "on-field" for some Agent skills, adjusting the text from "on-field character" to "active character." (These are text-only fixes and do not affect actual gameplay).
▶ Systems
● Optimized the Backup Battery system as the default option for restoring Battery Charge. When attempting a challenge with insufficient battery and selecting the Backup Battery to restore Battery Charge, the system will automatically show the required amount of Battery Charge needed.
● Optimized the crafting and dismantling of upgrade materials, allowing Proxies to do both directly in the conversion interface without switching to the Manage Item interface.
● Optimized the red dot display logic for Compendium > Shiyu Defense > Association Supplies Store.
● Optimized the badge system and added the Endless Last Stand series. Proxies can earn different tiers of Badge of Honor based on their performance upon reaching the corresponding level in "Battle Trial: The Last Stand."

A sprite I made for Jokk, the chaos jester from Chaos;Domain. Right now he may look a bit... familiar. Like, a certain clown from a certain indie RPG. But I assure you, I came up with the idea of Jokk DECADES before Deltarune was ever a thing and Jevil was invented as the first chapter's secret boss. This is also probally the first animation I ever did all the way back in 2021. Even with this few frames of animation it was super tough to have it all flow together. I can't image what the animators animating actual professional content at 30 FPS have to go through! I'll now give a lore summary as this will likely be the sprite used in the final game of Chaos;Domain.
Jokk is a jester from an unknown starsphere who came in contact with the farplane, a chaotic, unspeakable realm beyond reality full of Eedritch horrors beyond your comprehension. You know when you overdose on some REALLY nasty drugs like Benedrill and you see some unspeakable stuff that bends what is psychologically and biologically possible to become some unholy bug/deep sea creature like abomination? Yeah, that's what the farplane is like, and the unspeakable creatures are also the walls, floor, and air. There are no physical boundaries in the farplane or space in the way us 3-dimensional beings would comprehend it. It is a mess of biological abomination and unspeakable terror.
For most people, gazing even one second into the farplane can cause permanent psychological damage causing fits of insanity and paranoia for the rest of their sad, miserable lives. However, that was not the case for Jokk, who somehow, someway, UNDERSTOOD the madness in front of him and became one with it, the first person to gaze into and even enter the farplane without completely losing themselves in the maddness and chaos. Thus, Jokk became the incarnation of Primordial Chaos, also known as Kalas, the opposite of God, God's shadow, and the origin of all evil. Through this higher calling Jokk was able to transcend dimensions similar to what Kairos achieved in primordial times and became a god-like being beyond understanding.
So, what does an all-powerful demigod of chaos and insanity do with their new reality warping powers? Create a battle royale of the most powerful heroes across time and space, of course! So, Jokk summons Koros from Zutara, Ryuka from Val, Zero also from Val, and Karuta from Nogarde to face off in a battle royale to see who was the strongest. Unfortunately for Jokk he's not very smart and didn't put any parameters in place to actually get these four heroes to fight, so instead the four heroes teamed up to defeat Jokk and get out of his crazy maze of death. Thus, the plot of Chaos;Domain begins.
After defeating multiple ghosts of the past from a world predating even Karuta, the team of four finally make it to Jokk's throne where they have to fight the mad jester. They defeat him, but Jokk unleashes his true form as PRIMAL CHAOS and the true final battle commences. However, PRIMAL CHAOS is immortal and cannot be defeated normally, so the heroes seek help from their allies back home who pray for them and with the power of friendship are able to seal primordial chaos back from whence he came, and Jokk is left battered and beaten drifting through time and space without any of his chaos powers.
The other heroes say their goodbyes as they return to their worlds, but for some reason Koros isn't returned to his own world. Rather, he wakes up in a mysterious city, all surrounding a massive hole in the ground reaching down as far as the eye can see...

Hey guys, Ry here, and here’s the 2nd Chapter of my KOF Story, now this is a crossover between KOF XV and Street Fighter 6, as well as elements of City of The Wolves, so enjoy the prequel story
Scene opens with Bison and his 3 Subordinates (JP, AKI, and Ed) after they successfully detained all of the Street Fighters including Juri
Time card: Before Terry’s arrival
M. Bison: I can’t believe we finally did it, we beaten all these Street Fighters including the traitor Juri
Juri: I’ll eat your heart out Bison! Just you wait!
Zangief: Calm down my little comrade, you’ll have your chance
JP: Oh we doubt that
Soon, a Shadaloo Solider came up to M. Bison
Shadaloo Solider: Lord Bison! I got some urgent news
M. Bison: What is it?
Shadaloo Solider: One of the prisoners, we try to detain him
M. Bison was unimpressed but seething with fury
M. Bison: You imbecile! I order you to detain that prisoner, I want that Satsui no Hado extracted from him!
Manon: Satsui no Hado? What’s that?

Akuma proceeds to flee back to Enma’s Hollow, as Bison and his subordinates arrive
Ed: Now what Lord Bison? Do we go after him ourselves?
Bison: Don’t be hasty Ed, Akuma is a tough one to detain, but we will have a chance to capture him
AKI: How, he’ll always escape and go on the run
Bison: I’m certain that time will come
Meanwhile with the other detained Street Fighters
Chun Li: I can’t believe this happened, we all lost
Blanka: Blanka wants out! *shakes the iron bars*
Kimberly: I can’t believe that Johann Petrovich and Bison, they formed an alliance..
Lily: I don’t wanna be locked up!
Rashid: The turbulent winds won’t break these iron bars..
Ryu: Then, we lost..
Guile: *sorrow* I’m sorry Charlie.. I let you down
E. Honda: Step back, I’m gonna break them! *attempts to use Sumo Headbutt to break the bars, but the bars were indestructible* Ow!
Marisa: *punches the bars but it was no use* Darn it!
Dhalsim: I guess fate has called us..
Dee Jay: No music… Means I’m going craaazy..
Luke: This is how it all ends..
Jamie: Imprisoned..

Ken turns around from the group, and takes out an emergency pager he received long ago

It was almost funny how mundane things became what you looked forward to most when you were dealing with stress. Folding laundry became your favorite pastime, washing the dishes as exciting as the climax of a dramatic film. You found yourself looking forward to boring things because they were distractions, little breaks from the stream of conscious running like a winding river through the depths of your brain. Work and domestic chores were the only other things you could focus on, the dull time spent staring at your planner preferred over thinking of how incredibly much you missed him, even with how confusing and worrying your last conversation had been. Every second you paused you thought of Todoroki, thought of what he’d said to you on the phone and how it made your heart soar but panic, thought of how he’d been all but ignoring you for the past two weeks since.
You weren’t sure how to figure out what exactly he had meant, what his intentions had been in uttering quiet words that felt too intimate for a person who was supposed to be with someone else. They felt like they had a purpose he didn’t know of yet, like he’d spoken without thinking of the consequences and left the both of you unsure of where to go now. He’d confused you, made you elated for seconds and upset the next, throwing things at you that you’d thought a million times but knew you couldn’t say out loud. It was like he was toying with your emotions without even trying, like he was perhaps just as desperate to stop holding his thoughts back as you were. Then again, maybe he had been ignoring you because he’d said things he didn’t mean, because the words he mumbled were never meant to be taken how your heart desperately wanted them to be.
Or maybe he understood how dangerous of a game those words could unleash.
Todoroki admitting he had feelings for you would put the pair of you between a rock and a hard place, it would make both of you face things that could never quite be how you wanted them to. Subconscious wondering was easy, lingering glances and quiet whispers of how much you loved the other when they weren’t listening was barely okay, but out right admitting you had feelings for each other would open a can of worms that was too complicated to even comprehend. You loved Todoroki, you wanted Todoroki, but he had someone whom he was supposed to be with, and perhaps that had been why he’d never once thought out loud about how he felt for you.
He cared about others feelings, he had a huge heart and didn’t want to use it to harm anyone else’s. The idea of hurting Momo by admittedly having feelings for you would be enough to drive him crazy, to fill the both of you with guilt so strong you’d have a hard time breathing. Not to mention how incredibly bad it could make things, how if someone found out you were openly in love with each other you could end up facing the punishments for it. Unrequited feelings was one thing, but actively placing the both of yourselves in a horrible situation was another, and you figured maybe that was why Todoroki had been so absent, even if it made your chest ache. Maybe he was trying to build up space and walls between you so you could get over any lingering feelings you could have brewing for each other, though you doubted it would work.
You’d been in love with him since you met him and got the feeling you would until your last breath.
Everything felt too quiet when the sun dropped from the sky, the blanket wrapped around your legs as you curled up on your bed rustling as loudly as an exploding cannon. The volume on your tv was turned down to near zero, folded laundry waiting to be put away on your dresser. Your phone was shut off and locked in your desk drawer, because you’d found yourself checking it so often that it made you want to punch yourself, loathing how weak you’d felt all day. The past two weeks without Todoroki had been enough to wear you down, but hearing from one of his coworkers that his anniversary party with Momo was happening tonight had been enough to topple you over the edge of an invisible cliff, the ground slipping out beneath you everytime the thought popped back up.
Your vision trailed over to the digital clock on your bedside, the bright red reflecting off the table’s surface reading 20:58. The party was probably well underway by now, you figured. You could practically picture them, embracing each other in their nicest attire, laughing and kissing and holding each other’s hands as tight as they could, just how they would forever. Part of you was glad his mother would never have thought to invite you, because you didn’t think you could stomach having to watch them love each other the way you wanted to openly love him.
The metal of your necklace felt cool beneath your hand as your eyes trailed hazily away from the clock to peek out the window, the sky dotted with stars you could barely see from your bed. Everything felt distant, like you were on the moon and everyone else was back down on Earth, like you could look at everyone but no one could really see you. No one could see as your focus drifted to your palm and your fingers traced over the golden line scaling up it. No one could hear the quiet sigh that fell past your lips or feel the way your chest ached when it caught the light, hearing Todoroki’s whispers just a bit louder the more you looked. No one could read the thoughts painted behind your eyelids, the ones that felt increasingly dark as the world fell mute.
Todoroki was who you always turned to when things became too much, and he was busy at a party celebrating the supposed love he shared with his soulmate. Midoriya would surely listen to your problems, but you felt guilty dumping them all on him, figuring he was at home with his fiance, probably deep in some movie like they did every Friday date night. You’d distracted yourself all week as much as you could with household chores until your fingers wore tired, every corner of your apartment free of dust and lacking a proper distraction to your thoughts. You didn’t have anyone to go to besides yourself, and you were horrible at giving advice when you were falling apart. Horrible at trying to hold yourself together without the support you’d gotten so used to, without the attention from Todoroki you were so desperate for, no matter the consequences.
You jumped slightly in bed when there was some noise behind the door, an anxious knocking that grew louder after a moment, the bed dipping beneath your thighs when you sat up and stared at the wooden surface. After a few quiet steps across the space you pulled the door open, heart thumping once loudly against your ribcage as your eyes traveled up the damp figure before you. Standing there, in a dishevelled white button up and dress suit with his hair a complete mess, was Todoroki, his eyes wide as he panted, sucking in air like he’d just run up the twelve flights of stairs to reach your door.
“Todoroki.” You breathed his name like you’d gotten your first taste of oxygen in days, nerves firing off once as he shut the door after he’d come a few steps inside, eyes focused down onto the floor before peeking up at you once through his lashes. Your eyes drifted to his heaving chest, watching how rapidly it rose and fell as you flickered your gaze back up to his face, the distance between you less than two feet. “Your soaking wet.”
He nodded once, not fighting you when your fingers came to rest on his wrist, body easily leading his own to your bed. He sank onto the edge mattress with ease, head hanging forward slightly as he caught his breathe, a million questions on your tongue you didn’t quite know how to ask. He looked lost but so beautiful, confused but full of magnificence he simply couldn’t see with his own two eyes. You had just seen him two weeks before but it felt like too long, even if your last conversation had left you reeling and lost. Then again, a few seconds away from Todoroki was too long for your liking, like there were magnets embedded in your veins drawn only to him.
“Stay here okay? I’m gonna make you some tea.” You mumbled, his head barely bobbing in a nod as you pulled your baby yellow blanket up over his shoulders, letting it hang off his blazer as you turned and left the room, swallowing away the words dancing on your tongue. You struggled to be patient with your inquiries, wanting to know why he was at your apartment and not at his party, why he had ignored you for two weeks, if he’d just said those things over the phone without thinking of the meaning or if he’d meant them and simply scared himself.
Your fingers fumbled with the mug trapped between your fingers as you leaned against the counter, waiting for the water to boil, eyes glued to the pale lavender kettle as you focused on the sound of Todoroki’s wet jacket being tossed onto the hardwood. You wanted to ask what was going on but had a feeling when he was ready to talk he would make that move, spine tense and body locked up like someone had tightened each and every joint in your body. Something about him seemed different, more pressured than before, more unsure of himself than you’d ever seen him, and it made your stomach because you weren’t sure how to help.
You weren’t feeling particularly yourself anymore either. You couldn’t even remember what your normal was compared to now, because normal for you had become dreaming about him. It’d become being overwhelmed with longing for Todoroki and anger at the universe for putting you where you were. Normal had warped into a state of half living, one where you went through the motions and tried to ignore the feelings in your chest when you could, because they hurt to much to face dead on. You didn’t recall the last time you laughed so hard you cried, couldn’t focus hard enough to think of the last time your heart soared with the joy you were feeling.
You were alive but hadn’t really been living, not for a while now.
Some days were better than others and those days had always been the ones with Todoroki in them, the times when you were alone and could shut everything else out for a while shining the brightest inside your head. Now didn’t feel like one of those times though, your feet carrying you back into your bedroom with the filled mug still clasped between your palms. Everything felt heavier now, like even the quiet breathes he was letting out were laced with the weight of the world. Like even the syllables not yet out of his mind and into his voice were enough to knock you off your feet.
His eyes were still downcast when you approached the bed, hands leaving the cup of tea on your dresser as you reached his hunched over figure. His hair was falling down, slightly covering his face from your view until you crouched in front of him, his elbows bent and perched on his thighs. His fingers were fiddling with something that kept catching the light coming from the muted television, your blanket pooled around his hips and his shoes squeaking slightly as he shifted when you rested a palm on his knee.
“Are you okay?” You were trying to sound gentle, trying not to be selfish and ask him why he was here and not at the party, his head lifting to look at your face while your eyes fell back to his fingers. He was holding a ring, you’d realized, one that was a worn down rose gold with a square diamond in the middle, delicate swirls branching from it to the band. “What is that?”
“My grandma gave me this ring. It was hers.” His eyes drifted back down to his lap when your touch slipped away from his knee, your focus trailing along the lines on his palm as he placed the ring in the middle of it. His fingers slowly curled, bending around the jewelry and clasping into a loose fist as his teeth dug into his plump bottom lip. You remained silent as he paused, swallowing with nerves bubbling up in your stomach, heartbeat in your fingertips pounding away like a solid drum beat. “She told me that when I was older, one day I’d meet someone and know they were who I was supposed to give it to.”
He let out a soft laugh, one that sounded half hearted as his head lifted and his clenched hand relaxed, the ring catching the light again as he haphazardly twisted it between his fingers. His voice sounded deeper than normal, more thick, like he’d screamed for too long and now his vocal chords were worn thin.
“I never really thought about what she said, always assumed she was just talking about my soulmate.” His fingers traced the lines on his palm as he spoke, but his eyes remained focused on you, burning into your corneas like the rays of the sun. “And then I met you, and nothing really seemed so straight forward anymore. The person I’d want to give this to isn’t my soulmate, not even close.”
Your legs straighten out as you stood, hands feeling clammy as your anxiety skyrocketed, nerves all firing in succession like a firework show, your stomach lurching like you were on the apex of a rollercoaster. The way he was staring at you made it feel so much more intimate, so much more terrifying than the words already were threatening to be. You turned your body slightly, planning on picking up his jacket to busy yourself and pretend to be passive, to put on a look of faux calm, but were stopped when his fingers clasped around your wrist, his body rising to stand at his full height.
“Why are you here Todoroki?” You tried to stop yourself from looking at him as he stood directly in front of you, the sound of the ring that had been in his hand falling onto the floor too loud to your eardrums. He swallowed once aggressively, adam’s apple bobbing as he pushed his fingers through his hair, shoes squeaking against the hardwood floor when he moved closer to your figure, simultaneously raising your heart rate.
“I needed to see you.”
“You’re supposed to be at your anniversary party, with Momo.”
“I don’t care about a stupid fucking party.” His head shook side to side as he cut you off, neck craning as his skull tipped back so he was staring at the ceiling, jaw tense. You wanted to reach out and touch him, wanted to graze his neck with your fingertips and see if his pulse matched your own, wanted to feel the way his muscles stretched when he parted and closed his lips. “I don’t care about our anniversary, about any of it.”
“Todoroki-”
“I don’t want to do this anymore. I can’t fucking do this anymore.” Your eyes locked onto his as his fingers grazed your elbow, skin on fire from the vague contact but muscles not contracting to pull back. Everything had fallen silent around you even more so than before, your heart in your throat and feeling like it was trying to punch its way out. “I can’t pretend that I don’t feel anything everytime I look at you. I can’t pretend that when I picture my future you’re not the one there beside me through it all. I can’t pretend that I’m not-”
“Not what?” You cut him off, like you were trying to give him a way out, trying to let him stop himself from saying something he’d perhaps regret. Your hand brushed his when he reached out, his fingers immediately clasping through your own as he gave you a gentle tug towards him while he struggled to fight out the words he wanted to say. You stumbled slightly from the force, bare feet bumping into his dress shoes as he stared at you more intensely than he ever had before. It felt like you were looking at the whole world, like the entire universe was wrapped up there in his irses, trying to tell you all it’s secrets but you were too blinded by its beauty to understand them.
“I can’t pretend that I’m not in love with you.”
You felt like you’d been caught on fire, heart stopping its movements in your chest as you took a step back from him, like you’d been smacked. Your hands started to shake, everything spinning as you shook your head side to side, eyes squeezing shut like you were trying to hide yourself.
This couldn’t be happening, he couldn’t really be telling you he loved you, not now, not when he had his soulmate, not when the two of you could never be together. Not when the engagement ring he was surely supposed to give to her was a few inches from your feet on the floor. It wasn’t fair, it was cruel.
“I love you.” He repeated, firmly, ignoring the way you started to crumble, fighting against his own voice when shook with uncertainty, not in his feelings but in what could come from him saying it.
“Stop it-”
“No, I love you. I am so damn in love with you that I can hardly breathe without you. All I do when I’m not with you is think about how much I miss you. These past two weeks have been complete fucking hell. Everytime I’d see you at lunch with Midoriya or walking down the hall and have to stop myself from going to see you felt like torture.”
“Todoroki stop!” Your voice rose slightly as you snapped, head still shaking and hands raising to cover your face, rubbing at your eye sockets to try and relieve the tension building there. You could hear him following you as you moved closer to the opposite wall blindly, his shoes squeaking on the wood until you spoke over the noise. “Dont say shit like that on a whim, don’t say things to me you don’t mean.”
“I do mean it.” His voice rose as yours had, his hands landing on your elbows and turning you around towards him, hands on your wrists then as he tugged them down from your face. He looked hurt, almost like you’d offended him even suggesting he would say something as impactful as ‘ I love you ‘ without knowing he meant it first. “You know I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t know I meant it.”
“You have a fucking soulmate!”
“I don’t care, I don’t love her!” His voice cracked as his volume grew too loud for the emotions bubbling up in his gut, his eyes squeezing shut and his lips parting as the bottom one shook, a clear sign he was trying not to cry. Your heart squeezed watching the water drip down his temple as his head tipped back again, fingertips digging into your wrists as he took a shaky breath. “Not how I’m supposed to. She’s nice and she’s sweet and she’s beautiful but she doesn’t make my heart race like you do, she doesn’t make me want to be so much stronger like you do.”
You swallowed hard, your own eyes burning as you blinked a few times, hands slipping into his when his fingers started to shake. His shoulders slumped as he tried to bottle in the choked cries his lungs were fighting to expel, the hair falling back off his forehead. His eyes opened again but were focused on the ceiling as fresh tears collected in his water line, his emotions engulfing him like a too long ignored tidal wave. After a short beat his head lowered, eyes boring into yours as his cheeks got stained with moisture, nostrils flared as his fingers tangled between your own.
“I’ve tried to, I’ve been trying to since I met her but I can’t. I can’t love her because I love you.” You sucked in a sharp breathe as your lips stretched into a thin line, trying to hide the shake brewing in them, forcing down the bubble in your throat as your eyes squeezed shut. “I have since the first moment I saw you and I pretended it wasn’t there, I thought maybe if I ignored it that it’d go away. Even when I met her I thought that I could finally get past it, but nothing ever works, no one makes me feel how you make me feel. No one means as much to me as you do and nothing in the world can change that, absolutely nothing. And I know you feel it too, I know you love me. You have to love me too.”
“Our marks don’t match.” You tried to quietly reason, ignoring the ‘I love you too’ waiting to be screamed from the top of your lungs, blocking out the burning desire to kiss him until you couldn’t breathe. “The universe made you two match, you were meant to be with Momo, not me.”
“I don’t care about this stupid fucking mark.” He threw his hand out to the side, like he was showing it to the world, the dark lines flexing as his fingers splayed out when his crying grew louder. “If there was a way for me to cut this out of my hand and never have to see it again I would, because it means nothing to me. If I wasn’t made for you, if my heart wasn’t made for yours, than I wasn’t made for anyone.”
“We can’t do this.” Your voice shook as his hand rose to rest on your cheek, vision blurred as your heart shook within your chest, a tear falling onto his fingers as a quiet sob fell from your lips. It was everything you ever wanted to hear from him, that he loved you, that he wanted you and no one else, and for some reason it felt heart breaking to finally have him say it. Because what good did it do besides torture the both of you, if anything it made it all worse, made you feel the hole that obliterated your heart.
“I can’t live my whole life not knowing how it feels to kiss you. I can’t live forever never getting to hear you tell me that you love me too.” He whispered, voice cracking once more as he sniffled, your eyes drifting open long enough to see the red in his own as bright as a ripe cherry, the pain that was painted on his features like a beautiful disaster. “I can’t wake up every morning and not be next to you and somehow still be happy. You’re all I think about, every second I’m not with you it feels like somethings missing. Being with her feels wrong, but with you it’s like everything’s clicked into place, finally. With you it feels like I’m where I’m supposed to be, that I’m who I’m supposed to be.”
“We can’t, Todoroki.” You repeated quietly as your shoulders sunk, his palm slipping from your cheek to move to the back of your neck as you fell into his chest, crying into his dress shirt and staining it wet, the fabric a muddled grey from the tears. His free arm wrapped around your middle as you sobbed louder once you were in the comfort of his strong arms. His own sniffles grew muffled as his cheek pressed into the top of your head, your fingertips creating bruises on his back as you wrapped your arms as tightly around him as you would, like he’d disappear if you let go. “You can’t ruin your whole life because of me.”
“You are my life.”
“It’s not fair.” Your back shook as you cried harder, lungs feeling like they were being squished so no air could get in, hands shaking as you bunched the fabric of his shirt between your fists. His fingers tangled into your hair, gently maneuvering your neck so you were looking up at him, his free hand lifting to cup the very edge of your jaw, fingers brushing the chain of your necklace hanging around your throat. “None of this is fair.”
“I know.”
“All I’ve ever wanted was you.” Your bottom lip was growing agitated and inflamed from how much you were biting it, trying to hide how it shook when you spoke. “I’ve never wanted anything more than you Todoroki, but if someone found out-”
“I don’t care about anything else, not right now, not anything but you.” He whispered the words slowly, spaced out, like he wanted each one to be cemented into your brain as his lips puckered and relaxed. His thumb traced a circle around your cheekbone, head shaking side to side as a barely there, sad smile pulled up onto his perfect lips. “I want to hold you, and kiss you, and feel you against me. I want to hear your heartbeat and remember the way your skin feels when you hold my hand. I want to run my fingers through your hair and trace the spaces between all the freckles on your body. I want to forget about the rest of the world and love you, even if it’s just once.”
And then his neck craned down and his lips landed, just barely parted, over your own.
And it felt perfect for a moment, like everything was right, like for a second all you could hear and see and feel and breathe was him. His lips pressed into your own, your hands lifting to rest on his cheeks as your chests glued together, his skin sticky from the tears that had half dried on them. He tasted like peppermint and orange, like the way a breeze felt on a perfect spring day, lips moving against your own languidly as your breathes mixed together.
“I love you.” His words were muffled as his hand lowered from your cheek to instead grip your hip, bodies flush so that nothing could slip between the two of you, tone shakey as your fingers moved to grip his shoulders. You wished you could capture the feeling of his lips on yours and put in a drug so you could get high on it over and over again, wished you could feel the way you did in that second forever.
“I love you too.” Tears still slipped from your eyes as the words came tumbling out, desperate, broken, having been bottled up too long without anyone hearing them. You’d wanted to say it so many times, wanted to tell him how important he was to you every night he fell asleep on your couch listening to you talk. You wanted to tell him how much you loved him every time he smiled at you, every time he went out of his way to make sure you were okay. You’d wanted to tell him you loved him that very first day and every single second that passed after.
With every single cell in your body did you love him and you hoped that, if only this once, he could feel it.
Things began to move in a blur, his lips trailing from yours to make a path down your neck, your fingers clumsily unhooking the buttons of his shirt as you frantically gripped onto each other. Your eyes were squeezed shut, the sounds of your spaced out breathes mixing as you seperated just long enough for him to slip the oversized nightshirt you had on up over your head. Your mouths meshed back together as your palms traced the lines of his chest, hand pressing flat against his heart and throat tightening when you felt his heartbeat, trying to memorize the tempo so you could replay it for the rest of your life.
His shirt was discarded onto the floor a few moments later, your mouths leaving and reuniting over and over, lips turning puffy and reddened. You’d waited so long to know what kissing him would feel like, been so desperate to feel his fingers skimming down your bare back like they were in that moment. Your heart was trying to thrash through your bruised rib cage and right into his palms, skin on fire as his fingers traced around your hips to your stomach, flattening against it as his fingertips pressed harder against you. Goosebumps rose on his skin when your fingers slid along his sides to his lower back, a faint mutter of a laugh resonating against your lips as you skimmed his ticklish hip.
Your heart thudded once suddenly from the sound, like reality had come back and smacked you, an ounce of guilt starting to claw at your spine. As badly as you wanted to ignore it, the feeling was too strong, like two hands rising up and wrapping around your throat as Todoroki’s teeth delicately tugged on your bottom lip, his hair tickling your forehead. Much as you loved Todoroki, he was taken, even if he didn’t love her, even if he didn’t want to be with her, he was. As much as you wanted to ignore everything and fall into him, as much as you wanted to collapse onto your bed in his arms and show him just how much he meant to you until the sun rose, you couldn’t, not when he had someone else. Not when none of this could ever happen, would never be allowed.
“Todoroki.” You whispered, pulling away slightly, his eyes staying shut as he tried to move closer to kiss you again, lips parted and shining as the light caught the side of his face. It took every ounce of strength you had to swallow the lump in your throat and place your hands on his chest, brushing your thumbs in delicate circles over his boiling skin as your teeth clamped into your trembling bottom lip. “We have to stop. We can’t.”
He took a shaky breath as his nostrils flared once before his eyes opened, adam’s apple bobbing as he nodded, blinking rapidly, like he was trying just as hard to stop himself from crying again as you were. His body separated from your own except for his hand, the one with his soulmark plastered across his palm, which was flush against your own, fingers tangling as he sank down to sit on the edge of your bed with his eyes focused out the window. You moved to sit down beside him as he kicked off his shoes, not bothering to find your lost shirt as he dipped his head down to stare at your palm in silence, the light from the tv faintly dancing across your sides.
“What do we do now?” His voice barely met your ears as your head fell onto his shoulder, eyes fluttering shut as you exhaled all the air from your lungs, still tasting him on your tongue. It felt like one weight had been lifted off your spine but another, heavier weight had been placed on the top of your chest and was crushing you flat as a piece of paper. You’d gotten rid of the stress of hiding your feelings but now were stuck with knowing how good it could feel to love him, now you had to live with the knowledge that he loved you too and you’d never get to be together, not how either of you wanted.
“I don’t know.” You mumbled, eyes opening as his fingertip traced along your soulmark, your eyes falling on the contact, stomach clenching the longer you stared. Your eyes felt hot, tired, body drained from all the crying even as the delicate circles he was drawing onto your skin made it harder to not start sobbing all over again. His head bobbed as you listened to his quiet sniffle, your free hand raising to scrub at your eyes to wipe away the moisture trying to build in them.“We pretend none of this happened, we go back to normal.”
He stayed silent as he leaned forward some, your eyes following his movements as he grabbed the ring up off the floor and held it between his fingertips, pulling your palm so it was further in his lap. He easily slid the jewelry down your ring finger, your heart leaping once as you immediately tried to pry your hand away, that pang of longing growing, scratching it’s way up your entire body.
“Please wear it.” He muttered, twisting the ring so it was facing upwards where he could look at it properly, his knee knocking gently into your own. The way his voice strained made you pause, his thumb drawing a delicate circle over your knuckle as he sighed all the air out of his lungs with a heavy exhale while you nodded slowly. “Just for tonight, please.”
You tried not to focus on the drop of water that landed on your palm as he blinked, tried to ignore the ache in your chest as his hand clasped around yours and lifted it up, kissing your knuckles one by one before planting his lips on the face of it. He stayed like that for a moment before sucking in a breathe when he sniffled, head lifting slightly to look at you as his eyes brimmed back up with tears he was trying not to shed.
“I love you so much. I always will, no matter what.”
“I love you too.” You whispered quietly, a sad smiling falling on your lips that mimicked his own depressed expression, the curves and dips of his face all downwards as he laid back on the mattress, pulling you along with him. Your head landed on his broad chest as his arms looped around your middle, palm landing above his heartbeat so you could savor it just a little while longer. “No matter what.”
The promise felt heavy but true, full of love but also sadness that this was the way things had to be. It was a gentle reminder that you’d still love him no matter what happened now, even when the day came he had to marry Momo, even if a day came he’d finally start to have feelings for her how he was inevitably supposed to. Even if someday he decided to never see you again and start his life somewhere new, you would love him, to the other end of the universe and back. No person or circumstance could ever in a million years take that away from you, loving Todoroki had become ingrained in your cells, in the very core of yourself.
The pair of you fell silent as you laid together in bed, your eyes clapping shut as you focused on the sound of his breathing, another quiet ‘I love you’ uttering from his lips as his fingers played with the ends of your hair. After a while he seemed to doze off, his gentle mumbles turning into slow breathes, his hair fanned out behind his head when you glanced up at him. You were tempted to take a picture, to have something to remember those few seconds of intimacy you got to share with the man you loved before the sun rose and it’d be ripped away.
Because when the sun rose you would have to see him off with a smile and pretend you didn’t feel like your insides were rotting, you’d have to picture him going home to Momo and imagine the lie he’d tell her for where he’d been. You’d have to keep on living each day with the knowledge that Todoroki loved you but couldn’t ever be with you, that even if you were his he could never really be yours. You’d have to see him and picture this very night where you were wrapped up in his arms knowing that you’d never get to feel that love pressed between your beating hearts ever again.
“I love you too.” You whispered up at his then sleeping figure, watching the way his lips parted as his quiet snores started filling the room, eyes still puffy from the tears that had dripped from them. Your palm lifted, thumb tracing the shape of his lips once before resting on his jaw as your lips pressed into his chest once, eyes squeezing shut. “More than you’ll ever know.”

9 REAL Curses That You Gotta Know About - Even If You’re Not Exploring An Ancient Egyptian Tomb This Weekend
It’s the 17th February 1923.
We are somewhere in Cairo, staving off the heat of an Egyptian Autumn.
We’re waiting. We’ve been waiting since 1915.
In a silent, swift moment the seal to Tutankhamun’s tomb is broken, and one of the most valuable pieces of history is finally passed to the hands of the historians.
But it wasn’t just the secrets of the past that were unleashed when the seal was broken.
Within 12 years, 8 of the explorers that accessed the tomb were dead. By taking their first steps into this place of rest they had unknowingly released what was to be known as the Curse of the Pharaohs.
Ever since the 19th century British explorers first disturbed the pharaohs, a legend gained ground that claimed anyone who disturbed an Ancient Eypgtian mummy was to experience serious misfortune, illness, or even death.
And ever since they returned home with their spoils of the treasure was this claim proven correct, especially with the supposed curses detailed within the once hidden tombs themselves.
EDIT: Obviously this curse is founded more on the British media sensationalising exoticism, a common tactic of Imperialists in their racist agenda, so be far more wary of that than any old legend.
But what exactly was this curse? And were there any other curses that we should be aware of before we break into any other uncharted tombs?
What Exactly Is A Curse?
It’s founded some of our favourite urban legends and it is still used to stereotype certain communities - but it turns out that they’ve had this reputation for centuries.
In official terms, a curse is a wish that imposes adversity on a person or group of people, an object, or a place. Specifically, it is related to wishes made effective by supernatural circumstances, whether they’re enforced by spirits, or conjured via magic.
Regional divergences also exist, with jinxes belonging to African American Hoodoo, and hexing being a resident of Germany.
Convinced you’ve been cursed?
You have two options if you want to break the spell. One, you can either perform elaborate rituals specific to said-curse, or two, you can pray, like, a lot.
How helpful.
Not sure how you got cursed?
You’ve most likely encountered one of three things:
There’s the cursed objects - if you’ve been rooting through forbidden tombs or looted from a sanctuary, you might’ve brought a curse home, too. This curse typically amounts to bad luck, or the manifestation of strange phenomena.
Then there’s the curses from Ancient Egypt which are often associated with those that disturb mummies in their eternal slumber. The 19th century exploration of Pharaoh’s tombs revived this concept, and would allow the proliferation of our pop culture curses.
And then there's the Biblical curses. They don’t pause for breathe when cursing each other in the Bible, but thanks to my year 8 Religious Studies, I can tell you that at some point snakes and/or Cain was cursed.
(I’m sure Ms Comber would be ashamed knowing I can just about provide a tl;dr of the first few chapters of the Old Testament before the big plot twist.)
What Are The Most Famous Curses To Date?
#1 - The Curse of Tippecanoe
Our scene is set in 1931.
The brains behind Ripley’s Believe It Or Not - the bestselling publishers of unusual and slightly unnecessary facts - might not have much to report in the pre-internet age, but they were the first to note a rather peculiar trend:
American Presidents elected in a year ending in zero were to die whilst in office. This was later adapted to new, uh, data, which suggested years divisible by 20 (e.g. 1920, 1940, etc.) actually followed this trend.
And beyond the publishing date of this thesis in the early 20th century, this theory had been proven correct.
Think of an iconic president. You know, the ones that have changed history and haven’t suggested one consume bleach like shots of tequila on a two-night bender in ‘biza.
They’ve probably been a victim to this curse.
Lincoln. Mckinley. Roosevelt. Kennedy. Even Reagan and Bush followed the trend, but survived their own assassination attempts.
Question is, where does this curse supposedly come from?
William Harrison was killed only a month after being sworn into office. Elected in 1840, he waged war against a Native American tribe over problems concerning land ownership. Also known as Tecumseh’s War, this was a battle over an attempt to regain land against the American government, and it culminated in the Battle of Tippecanoe.
Harrison won this battle, and ‘Tippacanoe’ became a favoured nickname of the president.
However, shortly after the battle, one of the men at the fore of the Native American side cursed Harrison. We might not know the exact terms of this curse, nor if he wanted such a timely effect to take place, but with an election on the cards this year this thesis is due to be tested.
#2 - The Kennedy Curse
Kennedy might’ve already fallen victim to the curse of Tippacanoe, but it turns out that wasn’t quite enough. The thing is, this curse doesn’t necessarily affect just JFK. It affected everyone around him.
The Kennedy Curse allegedly prompted the deaths, accidents, and variety of other problems that have haunted the Kennedy family since before JFK even took office.
Due to the fact that some recent tragedies has supposedly been related to this curse, I’m going to refrain from coughing up each incident, but here’s a few to convince you:
Joseph Kennedy was the first victim in 1944, and died in a plane crash over Suffolk, England.
Kathleen Kennedy met a similar fate in 1948 after a plane crash.
Robert F Kennedy was killed on the night of his Senate victory in 1968.
David Kennedy died of a drug overdose in 1984.
Michael Kennedy died in a skiing accident in 1997.
John F Kennedy died in a plane crash in 1999.
Rosemary Kennedy had a lobotomy and was mentally incapacitated for the rest of her life until her death in 2005.
#3 - The 27 Club
The passing of young people is a tragedy we can’t quite wrap our heads around. Heck, belief in the supernatural is partially founded on how we can’t quite comprehend just losing someone, and that just being it.
Finality is an impossible concept to grasp.
And it’s why we turn to things like curses to explain away our pain and to make sense of it all. The 27 Club is a prime example of this.
A remarkable amount of the most famous musicians, artists, and actors to date have all died at the age of 27.
Like, over 50.
Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, and Jim Morrison are just a few of the figures that represent the phenomenon, a phenomenon which has been referenced countless times in popular culture.
Some researchers may have disproven the alleged curse, but with the 4 founding members dying within a 2 year window (Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison), suspicions will always be roused.
#4 - The Curse of the Iceman
Popular culture phenomenons might form some of the most famous curses to date, but they really started with ancient legends. And this one is one of the most well-known claims of the awakening of a long-dormant curse.
Oetzi was found somewhere in the Alps in 1991.
No, this isn’t the name of some lovable character destined to have his own Netflix series; this is a corpse preserved by the icy temperatures of the mountain range in Italy. And this corpse is from 3100 or 3400 BC, or the Copper Age.
Given the value of this shocking discovery, numerous scientists took the fore in their investigation into Oetzi. But many of these scientists also died as a result of the supposed curse put on those that dare disturb Europe’s oldest natural mummy.
7 scientists that collaborated in the removal and examination of the corpse died in a suspiciously short window of time.
#5 - The Curse of Timur
Some of the world’s most famous curses have affected small groups of people. But this curse was a tad more far reaching.
Like 7.5-million-people-far-reaching.
Emperor Timur was a Turco-Mongol leader from the 14th century and established a highly impressive empire: the Timurid Empire. And this empire was so impressive that Stalin himself took direct inspiration from him.
That’s why he wanted the body of the emperor exhumed from his Uzbekistan tomb for investigation by Soviet anthropologists.
(There’s no explanation why, but the Soviet Union did many things we can’t explain.)
Locals protested, fearing a curse that reportedly started in 1740 when an Afsharid ruler took a slab from his final resting place to Persia. His son instantly fell ill amongst a host of other problems affecting his rule, prompting his advisors to convince him to return the slab of jade back to the tomb.
If the rumours weren’t enough to convince them not to break into the tomb, you’d think the warnings on there would do the trick:
"When I rise from the dead, the world shall tremble."
"Whomsoever opens my tomb shall unleash an invader more terrible than I."
Three days after the exhumation began, Hitler launched an operation that would figure as the largest military invasion on the Soviet Union to date.
#6 - The Superman Curse
Numerous films have been labelled with an alleged curse or a haunting. The Exorcist might be the most famous example of this - you know, with that severe fire burning down the set at one point - but a more specific curse can be attributed to those who played the lead in the Superman franchise.
George Reeves committed suicide in 1959.
Christopher Reeve became paralysed in 1985.
Lee Quigley died at 14 due to solvent abuse.
Kirk Alyn’s career met a dead end after his role.
Marlon Brando experienced a series of unfortunate events after his role.
Margot Kidder encountered serious issues with her mental health after her role.
Even the crew operating on the films experienced similar issues both on-set and in their personal lives.
#7 - The Hope Diamond Curse
It’s the most famous jewel in the world, weighing no less than 45 carats and passing between the hands of French kings and British bankers alike - but it’s value is far more supernatural than the $350m price tag.
It is said that a curse is attached to it, a curse that brings misfortune and accompanying tragedy to those that own or wear the gem.
Suicides, murders, executions (most of which were hangings), being ripped apart by wild dogs and various other mobs… Just wear the earrings next time.
Today it is on exhibit at the National Museum of Natural History in the US.
#8 - The Curse Of The Chicago Cubs
Bill Sianis lived an interesting life.
A Greek immigrant to the USA, he owned a tavern in Chicago affectionately named the Billy Goat Tavern. And it was this peculiar name that led to the curse that until recently haunted the Chicago Cubs.
Sianis took his pet goat to one of the games in 1945, a game that was a part of the World Series. But due to the odour of Murphy the Goat, he was asked to leave for the sake of the other fans.
“Them Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more”
He declared this shortly after discovering that he would in fact have to leave.
This curse lasted 71 years, and mysteriously ended in 2016 after numerous attempts by fans to utilise rituals - mostly involving goats which may or may not be alive - to release the team from their magical confines.
Numerous goats have been brought to games with declarations claiming to reverse the curse being used, and even Sianis’ family members have done their bit in attempt to lift it. Yet despite these attempts - and that severed goat’s head sent personally to the owner in 2013 - some good has come from the curse.
Many charitable efforts have sprung forth from this legend, such as Reverse The Curse donating goats to those living in poverty in Third World countries.
#9 - The Curse of Turan
Now this is an interesting one.
Allegedly, the whole population of Hungary has been under a curse for many centuries, a curse that has two potential origins:
The first took place during the Christian conversion of the country in 1000 AD, from which those supporting the old religions of Hungary (Paganism and a mix of other minority religions) cast a curse that would affect Hungary for evermore…
(More… More… Mo...)
Or 1000 years, suggesting the curse might have been lifted already.
Alternatively, it could be a curse created or rumoured to exist during the failed revolution of 1848 which evoked a great sense of pessimism that is a reported symptom of the curse.
Although the previous curses mentioned in this article have a striking number of coincidences one can’t help be interested in, this one is a little, well, vague.
Sure, Hungary - like most countries - has experienced a number of tragedies over the last 1000 years, from the devastating impact of war and invasion, to foreign control, but how far can we pin suffering caused by imperialism on that of a curse?
The high suicide rate which ranks as 6th in the world might not point to a supernatural cause, but the rather darker reality of depression.
(Yeah, I agree, I should’ve finished this article on a cheerier note.)

The plan to intercept Milites before they can attack Akademeia with the Crystal Jammer is put into motion. Tohno and the Player struggle to save as many lives as they can from the inevitable tragedy. Chapter Zero, Act 3 The Time When the Gears of Destiny Began to Turn
On that day, Player and Tohno received a summons from Miyu.
[Setting: Central Command]
Miyu: Player, Tohno, I have good news to impart. At last, Ace has successfully completed the new magic. Ace: "Anti-Crystal Jammer"... Magic which completely disables the enemy's Jammer. Ace: As long as we have this, we can deal with the Empire's attack. We should be able to protect Akademeia. Miyu: The Dominion's army will also gather at Akademeia and prepare for interception. Miyu: The cadets and the army will combine their strength here to confront the Empire's troops!
Player choice: >Roger! >I wonder if this plan will work...
Miyu: That's what I like to hear, Player. Well then, I'll move along to the details of the operation-- Tohno: Hold on. I'm not sure that this will be enough.

(Alternate Player Choice)
Miyu: The cadets and the army will combine their strength here to confront the Empire's troops!
Player choice: >Roger! >I wonder if this plan will work...
Miyu: Hm? Is there something that worries you? Tohno: No... I agree with Player. I'm not sure that this will be enough.

Tohno: If you gather the troops at Akademeia, then that means that Akademeia will be turned into a battlefield. Tohno: Even if we manage to protect the Vermilion Bird Crystal, there's a strong possibility that many of the people here at Akademeia could end up becoming victims. Miyu: ...That is the unfortunate truth. Nevertheless, Rubrum has no choice but to-- Tohno: Do you think we could take down the Crystal Jammer before it reaches Akademeia? Tohno: I heard that Milites has "flying battleships." I'm sure that they'll employ them in this operation. Tohno: If we can shoot them down, the battle might end sooner. Would that not reduce our causalities? Miyu: I see... The odds of success seem slim, but it's worth a shot. Ace: But how do you suggest we shoot them down? Ace: If we get that close to one of their battleships, wouldn't the Crystal Jammer seal our magic? Ace: Even if I disable the Jammer, we won't have enough hands to shoot down the battleships. Miyu: You have a point. In that case, I'll play that part. Tohno, eyes wide: --You intend to do it yourself, Representative? Miyu: If I focus all of my magical power, I can unleash it to shoot down the flying battleships. Miyu: As if I'd allow any sacrifices. Push back the Empire with your own hands and protect Akademeia. Tohno: ...Understood. Player, let's also do what we can.
(Full-motion cutscene)
Marshal Cid Aulstyne of the Milites Empire released an electric shockwave over the Dominion. The Invincible, the battleship of the Empire's main force, delivered a surprise attack on Akademeia.
In response, all of the Dominion's forces strengthened Akademeia's defenses. Player joined an elite unit of cadets who were deployed to try to shoot down the battleships.
Miyu (over COMM): Attention! We have confirmation that the Milites army is attacking Akademeia! Miyu (over COMM): Ace is going to start preparing to cast the Anti-Crystal Jammer magic! Miyu (over COMM): Meanwhile, I will join those who are preparing to shoot down the battleships! Miyu (over COMM): Elite cadet unit, requesting you take care of the enemy forces on the ground! Open the way to the battleships! Miyu (over COMM): The fate of the Dominion rests on this battle! May the Crystal guide us all!
[Setting: The streets surrounding Akademeia]
Tohno: ...Player. It's time to start. Tohno: I don't know if this is the correct path, but I intend to do what I can. Tohno: In order to prevent the future tragedies from happening... I don't want to see anyone else die. Tohno: ...So promise me, Player. Promise you'll make it out of this fight alive. Tohno: If you're scared, it's even okay if you want to run away. Please, whatever you do, just don't die...
A Divergence in History

Milites Army Commander (Qun'mi): We can't go any farther?! The cadets are getting in the way of the imperial fleet on the ground?! Milites Army Commander (Qun'mi): Whatever! We'll reach Akademeia by air! If I can seal the Vermilion Bird Crystal, the tables will turn! Milites Soldier: P-please wait a second, Miss Qun'mi! We've received a reading of massive magical energy in the sky! Milites Army Commander (Qun'mi): What?! --Uwah!!
Miyu (over COMM): --Attention! It's been confirmed that the enemy's flagship has been shot down!! Miyu (over COMM): This will force the Milites army to retreat! Victory is ours!! Miyu (over COMM): ...To all cadets, my sincerest gratitude. It's thank to you, we were able to protect Akademeia. Miyu (over COMM): Thank you, everyone. I'm truly proud of you...!
[Setting: Field]
Tohno: We... We won? This was really our victory, wasn't it...! Tohno: Ah... Ahaa... I'm still shaking... Tohno: But I'm so glad. It seems we were able to reduce the number of sacrifices this time. Tohno: You also did your best to help, didn't you? Thank you, Player...
[Setting: Cemetery]
Tohno: ...Player, the war is going to begin soon. Tohno: Many lives may be lost again... And many things will disappear from people's memories... Tohno: The people living in Orience will lose their memories of the dead. Tohno: "The Oblivion of Death"-- That is the reason of this world. Tohno: ...But I'm different. For some reason, I don't lose my memories of the dead. Tohno: I'm exempt from the "Oblivion of Death" rule... That's something unique about me. Tohno: Whether it's a good thing or a bad thing... I'm still not sure.

Tohno: ...Maybe. I might have been able to carry over my memories from the previous world because of this quality. Tohno: I won't even lose my memories of those who die... Tohno: Thank you, Player. Tohno: Holding everyone's feelings in my heart and connecting them with the next world... That might be the role I'm meant to play.

Lucy and Wendy shuddered as the icy waves of doom and darkness emanated from their friend's body. The poor girls who sat on either side of him could only shiver silently, unable to escape the sub-zero temperature that extended within a 3-feet radius from Gray. Neither had the courage to say anything; they could tell that it wasn't a good time.
Erza, as well as Happy, were soundly asleep against a boulder furthest to his right. Luckily, having taken Erkis' place in the play earlier had tired Erza out completely, or else she would've smashed his skull open for being so careless with his magic.
The ice mage's right leg shook restlessly as he stared intently at the bluenette who sat directly across from him. They were separated by a campfire that unfortunately illuminated the unsightly scene in front of him all too well.
Yes, unsightly was the right word.
To say that he was in a sour mood right now would be an understatement.
"U-um," Wendy said meekly, barely above a whisper. "A-are you okay, Gray-san?"
He didn't hear her. It was safe to say that at that moment, he only had eyes and ears for one person, or rather two, to be accurate.
The neglected chicken wing he happened to be holding on a skewer engulfed into flames, but even then, his eyes never left Juvia's smiling face as she listened adoringly to Natsu's exaggerated retelling of how they defeated the Water God Dragon.
What. The. Fuck.
The scorched skewer in his hand snapped in half. He didn't know if he was overreacting because he hadn't seen her in a while and was simply more sensitive than usual, or if there really was something fishy going on.
Ever since Juvia showed up out of nowhere on their train, she hadn't been acting like herself. First of all, she didn't pounce on him immediately after she found them. This part wasn't all that strange since even Juvia had her calm days. But after explaining to the team why she was there —apparently, she had taken up a solo mission close by because she just couldn't bear to be away from her Gray-sama another second— she then had the audacity to sit down next to stupid Natsu. Without so much as hugging the ice mage.
Ok fine, he'll admit that to outsiders, her behavior didn't seem out of place at all. Perhaps to the rest of Team Natsu, it just looked like Juvia was holding back more than usual and keeping her feelings in check. But they didn't know her, Gray did. The two of them had been separated for an insane amount of time. She surely would've missed him just as much as he missed her, if not more. But to his utter disappointment, other than a few polite acknowledgments and gentle smiles his way, Juvia had, for the most part, ignored him.
And now, as they're settling in for the night, the water mage had once again plopped herself down beside flame-brain. Even when there was a huge vacant spot next to Gray, which he had purposely kept free just for her.
Juvina-sama's words echoed in his mind.
"Don't think she will wait for you forever, lover boy!"
He shook his head to get rid of any unnecessary thoughts. No, there was no way she moved on already. They had been through too much; they literally died for each other. And besides, even if Juvia finally got tired of waiting for him, it was ridiculous that she would choose the pink-haired idiot over him, of all people.
And yet…
"Wow, Natsu-san is so powerful!" Juvia giggled. "The Water God Dragon didn't stand a chance, huh?"
The dragon slayer let out a boisterous laugh, his head doubling in size at the compliment.
It took Gray everything he had to not plant his foot in Natsu's face right then and there.
He glanced over at Lucy, who had been sitting quietly at his left. The celestial mage's eyes were also glued to the unlikely pair across the campfire.
Shit, even Lucy looked worried. And this made him worried because if anyone was an expert at reading these types of situations, it was her.
The blonde emerged from her thoughts when she felt like she was being watched.
"W-What…"
"Nothing."
"So you noticed too, huh?" Lucy gave a forced smile and tried to sound cheery. "I didn't know they got along so well!"
Gray said nothing.
An elbow nudged him in the chest. "Don't tell me you're jealous?" Lucy winked at him.
He scowled and looked away, knowing that a blush was making its way to his face. "Shut it."
"Oh? You're not even going to deny it?" Lucy laughed and this time, it was genuine. "You've come a long way, Gray Fullbuster."
Gray grunted but smiled back. "Stop, you're starting to sound like Juvina-sama."
His friend, now more relaxed, looked back towards Natsu and Juvia happily chatting away. "Alright, since you're having such a hard time, I'll be generous and help you out before you freeze us all to death."
Wendy and Charle, who were currently cuddling close to the fire after Gray had unknowingly unleashed his cold wrath, turned to Lucy and gave her their best look of gratitude despite shivering.
"Um, Juvia!" the blonde called out. "You and Gray haven't seen each other for a while, I'm sure you two have a lot of catching up to do. Why don't we switch spots? Natsu here doesn't know when to shut up once you get him started on dragons."
"Hey I don't talk that much!"
The bluenette looked startled for a second as if realizing something. "Ah yes, Juvia indeed has missed Gray-sama so much!" She turned to face the ice mage and gave him her best, loving smile. "Juvia can't wait to hear all the stories Gray-sama has to share, later."
Later?
Gray's heart fell. Lucy, Wendy, and Charle looked on with shock. Heck, even Natsu's jaw dropped slightly at her response.
Without sparing him another glance, the water mage turned back to the dragon slayer. "Please continue, Natsu-san. You left off at a most exciting part!"
Natsu let out a nervous laugh and reluctantly continued. In turn, Juvia shifted closer to him until her bare knees pressed snuggly against the clueless man's thigh.
Very. Snuggly.
The campfire froze.
Everyone turned their attention to Gray.
"Hey ice princess, what's your deal?!" Natsu immediately blew a mouthful of fire at the block of ice, restoring the heat a little.
"Gray?"
Lucy peered up at her friend cautiously, but couldn't see his eyes as they were hidden under his bangs.
She noticed his tightened fists shaking and digging into his thigh, and placed a comforting hand over his white knuckles.
The girl jumped when the ice mage suddenly grabbed her wrist instead and tugged her closer.
"Sorry, Lucy," Gray said under his breath. Confused, she followed his line of sight until her eyes landed on the bluenette. The dots quickly connected as she realized his plan.
So Gray was going to test Juvia's reaction. Lucy relaxed slightly and tried to play along. By now, Juvia's love rival senses would've been tingling and any minute now, she'd probably fly across the fire to put herself between them.
However, to their surprise, the water mage didn't even notice the fact that they were holding hands. She couldn't have, because she never once looked their way.
Lucy was thoroughly freaked out at this point. And Gray was getting desperate.
In one swift motion, and a little more aggressively than he had intended, Gray threw his arm around Lucy's shoulder and slammed her body into his. This earned a loud squeak from the celestial mage. Wendy's face turned red, and finally, Natsu and Juvia paused their conversation to see what's up.
The pink-haired dragon slayer was the first to react.
"GRAY!" he roared and shot up from the log he was sitting on. He then pointed an accusing finger at them. "What do you think you're doing to Lucy?!"
Gray ignored him and continued to direct his piercing eyes at Juvia. No one can tell except probably Lucy, but he was fuming right now.
Suddenly, the hair on his body stood up.
Although it was gone as quickly as it had appeared, Gray could've sworn he saw a flash of irritation across Juvia's face. But it hadn't been the look of jealousy like what Gray was expecting. No… it was a look of annoyance directed at him for interrupting her conversation with Natsu.
She can't be serious….
Just what the hell did he do? Was Juvia actually giving him the cold treatment? Was this all because he went on the 100 years quest without considering her feelings?
Ok, that kind of made sense. But regardless, this was still out of character for Juvia no matter how angry she was with him! And Gray knew her more than he would admit. The girl who proved that her love for him was strong enough to break even Invel's Ice Lock was not someone who would play mind games with him. Like water, Juvia's thoughts were transparent and people can read her like an open book. She was refreshingly simple in the sense that she spoke her mind and behaved in ways that felt right to her. She displayed her heart for all to see, believing that there was no shame in telling someone how much she loved them. Juvia was different from Gray.
So why then, is his woman cuddling up to his best friend and—more importantly—not losing her shit over the fact that he literally has her "self-proclaimed" love rival practically sprawled across his lap?!
Another second passed, and Juvia was making no move to do anything about their compromising position. However, just as Natsu was about to march over and start a fight, Gray stood up, making poor Lucy lose her balance and fall on her stomach.
"It's getting late. Let's call it a night."
"HUH?! Oi popsicle head, I'm not done with you ye—"
"Natsu, stop!" Lucy snapped as she tried to pull the fire dragon slayer away. "You've done enough for one night, now let's go get some sleep!"
The blonde all but shoved Natsu into the boy's tent.
"Wendy, Charle, do you think you two can manage carrying Erza to her bed?"
"Don't worry, Lucy. We'll take care of it," Wendy said with one arm already under Erza's shoulder. She seemed relieved to finally escape this 'adult drama' that had unfolded a few moments ago.
As the crew slowly retired to their respective tents, only Juvia and Gray were left.
"It's been a wonderful night, Gray-sama," she smiled at him brightly. "Juvia will see you tomorrow!"
"Wait." His hand shot out and pulled her back.
"Hm?"
His eyes were pleading. "What's with you? You're acting different."
"Am I?"
"Yes, you are," Gray stressed. "It's been a long time since we've seen each other, and you're treating me like a stranger."
"You're worrying over nothing, Gray-sama. You can never be a stranger to Juvia."
There it is, that fake smile again.
The ravin-haired mage narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
"Juvia," he leaned over the wooden fence that stood along the edges of the hill, and stared off into the faded landscape as dusk settled in. "Has that scar healed yet? I still feel awful for accidentally stabbing you that day."
The blue-haired beauty had a troubled expression on her face. "Gray-sama, Juvia will be sad if you keep blaming yourself. It was nothing more than an accident, and the scar is healing just fine."
"Oh really?"
Her skin crawled when he turned slowly, eyes glowing bright red in the dark. His arm and the majority of his broad chest was covered in disturbing, black markings. She backed away.
"Gray-sama? You're scaring Juvia—"
In a split second, his long fingers were around her neck and she found herself choking.
"Your acting was pretty good there, almost had me fooled," the devil slayer seethed. "Too bad it just wasn't good enough."
She struggled and clawed at his tight grasp.
"You're not Juvia. So who the fuck are you? Some sort of shape-shifter?!" he bit out threateningly and released his hold just enough for her to be able to talk.
"Please… Gray-sama…" Her tear-stained face twisted in pain, and almost immediately, Gray released her.
His heart beat heavily in his chest from the adrenaline. Shit, what if he was mistaken? What if—
A chilling laugh escaped the water mage's lips. With a hand still massaging her neck, she gazed up at him with a smirk.
"I'm impressed, I didn't think you'd catch on this quickly. You're not as dumb as you look."
Gray froze and his blood ran cold when the unfamiliar woman in front of him confirmed his worst fears.
"I'll ask you one more fucking time," he rasped out as his whole body shook with barely restrained rage. "Who are you? And where the hell is Juvia?"
"Who I am is not important."
The woman stepped towards him. "But your sweet little Juvia…" she took his hand and placed it over her heart, "is right over here… Gray-sama." She whispered the last part tauntingly into his ear, and Gray realized that he had escaped a crazy dream only to end up in a nightmare.

Description: Zero is a reclusive computer science major, floating by in college with the help of vodka by his side. His only human interaction seems to be from his distant father, who abandoned him as a child but now is trying to make a bit of effort to be back in his life. And after a failed virus he sends to a Cray supercomputer gets exposed, he is forced to pay for the consequences of his cyber crimes in more ways than one.
During an unnecessarily violent arrest, he suffers a brain injury and anterograde amnesia, damaging his short-term memory. But during his time detained, he meets a violent man with an infamous short-temper, who takes a surprising interest in him.

Exception On Line 129: Thunderstorms
It didn’t happen like an earthquake, with a low haunting rumble forewarning the land. It didn’t happen like a tornado, lurking like a bane in the sky, until finally making contact with cursed earth. It didn’t happen like lightning, striking fast with devastation but ending as soon as it started.
It happened like a godforsaken thunderstorm on a crystal clear day.
It happened like blotchy silver clouds billowing over a bright cyan sky in seconds. It happened like the claps of thunder ripping the sky in half and causing it to unleash a deafening scream.
It happened, quite simply, out of nowhere.
Wednesday morning is crammed with two back to back university classes, but the rest of the day Zero always had free. And he usually spent his Wednesday afternoon like any other programming or messing around with his algorithm, but this particular afternoon was already off on a bad start as he slammed back another swing of his shitty Popov vodka, already killing nearly half a fifth, and sucking a heavy draw from his fourth cigarette as a lackluster surrogate to a much-needed chaser.
Watching literally whatever was on the first channel when he turned on the television, his focus was really only half on the entertainment; he was more concerned over how many more cigarettes he was going to have to burn through before he killed this bottle. Growing impatient with his ever-so-growing tolerance for alcohol, Zero sloppily pressed the home button of his cellphone laid atop his cluttered coffee table with his cigarette hand, accidentally drizzling a light dusting of ash upon the screen.
Two missed calls from his dad flashed on screen as well as five text messages from him. More importantly, the time showed two thirty-three in the afternoon, about an hour into his drinking. It had started from the first text message his dad sent a couple of hours ago, a soft-hearted request to see him and catch up on how Zero’s life has been.
Too little too late. A creep of anxious tightness swirled in his chest, an instinctual afterburn from the smoulder of his dejected childhood. He nervously chewed at his lower lip ring.
Pretending all he saw on the screen was the time, Zero hungrily sucked the last huff from his cigarette, mentally deciding it should be his last for this session, and snuffed out the last cinders on the overflowing ashtray wedged between two cleared vodka bottles and a stack of last semester’s textbooks, of which now made some real mediocre coasters.
Kicking his feet up on the coffee table, ignoring its pleading creak that even his light weight was a threat with its cheap frame, Zero squeezed his eyes shut and gulped down a few mouthfuls of the vodka, tuning out the background cartoon audio from the television into a meaningless din, ringing ever so softly in his ears.
And then thunder shattered his clear blue skies.
Hefty, booming knocks struck the door of his single-bedroom apartment.
“Lakewood police. We are here to execute an arrest warrant for Zero Novem and have this address on record as his residence. Open up or we will enter with force.” The voice was gruff, and concise, like the lines an overzealous teenage theater kid would practice in their head over and over for the strongest performance. But that’s all it was; a little performance, and it didn’t take more than a second for Zero to realize even through his moderate intoxication that this particular cop took his job way too seriously.
Perhaps too much alcohol was in his system to really spring his mind into full out panic mode, or spare a morsel of thought towards the idea that the arrest warrant was in any way legitimate.
“Officer, ‘shu got the wrong place,” Zero slurred back, louder than he thought he was being, “I couldn’t have done anything wrong if I don’t leave this place for nothin’ but school.”
The honesty was there, but only if but for the fact that Zero hasn’t been anywhere but school, his home, and the grocery store in the last month. Not even a job, thanks to a weekly petty allowance from his dad. And even then, none of his latest ventures outside his home immediately pinged noteworthy in his head.
“Sir, open the door,” the officer replied curtly, his voice immediately overly cautious at the notice that the apartment’s resident was drunk. Maybe that was par for the course with college students, but maybe not so much at half past two in the afternoon.
With an annoyed groan, mind still too cloudy with stormy billows to quite register that there was a chance he could actually be in trouble, Zero pushed off the couch with a calibrating stumble, making sure his feet were feeling firm on the ground before his hands half-heartedly pulled the front of his black t-shirt taut to smooth it out and appear somewhat presentable. After a quick fight with his lower lip ring, as a bit of nerves always giving him the instinct to bite it, he finally unlocked the front door and cracked it ajar, barely poking his head out as to hide the mess of an apartment behind him.
“Can I help you officer?” Almost in a sing-song voice, Zero immediately failed to make himself seem any more sober.
“Zero Novem, you’re under arrest, come out and stand against the wall.” The officer at this point had taken a defensive position, hand already on his gun in its holster, almost like a silent threat. A threat that Zero was too intoxicated to notice, or perhaps even take seriously.
Instead, he chuckled; sloppily, not in any smooth way at all, he gave his head an exaggerated shake left to right. “No, ‘m not, officer that doesn’t make any sense.”
And that’s when the thunder cracked. And by thunder, the officer’s hand smack forth onto the front of the door, forcing the door to slam hard into the adjacent wall in the apartment and sending Zero stumbling back. And perhaps in a more sober state, that stumble wouldn’t have also have sent him onto the ground, dazed when the overzealous cop immediately intruding in.
“The fuck do you think you’re doing!?” Zero immediately hissed at the officer, feeling the sting of the fall zip up and down his back, groaning as he sat up onto the palms of his hands.
The officer reached for Zero’s forearm, presumably to attempt to pull him up and cuff him, but instead his drunken senses were just fast enough to defiantly kick out his leg the second the cop’s hand got close.
And somehow, despite having the coordination of blind kitten at this point, Zero actually landed the weak kick. The officers grunted, more in frustration than any sort of pain, and perhaps that anger inside him boiled a little too close to the brim that he found his own leg pulling back, rearing for a kick of his own.
And without thought, only with anger, the officer sent a steel-toed boot swinging forward.
Perhaps his intent was to just to get Zero into submission. Perhaps he felt undermined, disrespected, and entitled to kick back. Perhaps he’d had a bad morning and this defiant drunk college student was the last thing he wanted to take the time to deal with.
Perhaps the officer just wanted to cuff him up and get back to the station as soon as possible, but that wasn’t going to happen.
When that foot swung down, it cracked down right on the side of Zero’s skull.
Despite appearing thin and frail, a grotesquely loud thud of Zero’s body hit the ground, knocking the back of his head against the hardwood floor and giving his brain an electrifying rattle. But he didn’t even feel the second hit when it came down again; he was already out cold, with a deep gash on the side of his head already gushing out a red halo around his head.
He was going to be riding in the back of an ambulance rather than a police car today.
