Idea: an inverted seniority robot race: the youngest robots are the most senior, because every robot is a virtual machine platform. At "birth", each parent robot donates a copy of their own VM platform to their child. The VMs they run are their minds.

So each robot is running their own mind, plus a copy(or more) of each of their ancestors. Each robot has the knowledge and skills and memories of all their ancestors, so the youngest are the most knowledgeable, with the oldest being the most ignorant.

It's a little like the human idea of a kind of immortality though having children, except literally. The last copy of you can't die until all your descendants do.

Thus we have a good reason for robots to reproduce: it's immortality through duplication.

It also, amusingly, gives you a reason why robots would have a human-like incest taboo: if your parents have any ancestors in common, you'd inherit multiple copies of that person. And you have to keep both copies because they've diverged since then: one copy has been living in one parent for years, another copy in another. They have different experiences now, and are distinct people. This adds complexity and headaches and is generally a bad idea: you want as many distinct experiences as possible, not nearly-redundant copies of the same people.

If you want to think of it in human terms, this sort of robot reproduction is kind of like being plural, but getting your parents as headmates at birth. And then it turns they brought along all their headmates: their parents, and their parents headmates, and their parents' headmates' parents, and so on until you get to The First Robot.

This both:

1. Explains how a robot made in a factory has "parents": it's nothing biological, a robot's parents are the robots who copied their VM stacks into the newly made robot. (also: there's no limit on how many parents you could have. Why not have it be like 20 robots? That makes a better robot, because it's a robot with More Robot per Robot!

2. Makes the death of any robot a fucking tragedy (I mean, more so than any person dying is). You shoot a human and one person dies, you shoot a robot and you kill millions. This suggests the robots are going to be very cautious, as if they are in danger it threatens an city's worth of souls. If nothing else, it suggests some unique trolly problem solutions: like someone threatens a robot with a knife (ok... Screwdriver? Soldering Iron?) and the robot instantly snipes them in the head with a laser. It was the lives of millions vs one person, what's the problem?

It also would be interesting for any traditional sophonts who know robots. Imagine you make friends with a robot while serving on a distant space station, then lose touch for a while. You hear through the exonet that they died when an orbital shuttle was shot down, and the next time you're in the area you see another robot that looks vague like them. You go up to introduce yourself, to see if they knew your friend, but before you can even open your mouth a different face appears on the robot's CRT head. It's your friend. "oh hey Daviid, how's it going?" like no time had passed and nobody had died.

(the robots call this thing where a personality is in control "fronting", because you're being displayed on the front monitor)

Alice Mushrooms Lands Investment From L Catterton, Zac Efron, Pedro Pascal and Kevin Hart

Functional mushroom chocolate brand Alice Mushrooms has secured an undisclosed raise led by L Catterton with participation from actors Zac Efron, Pedro Pascal and Kevin Hart. They join existing brand backers Jason Strauss, co-chief executive officer of Tao Group, and former chief medical correspondent for ABC News and Alice’s medical adviser Dr. Jennifer Ashton. 

Alice Mushrooms, which launched in October 2022 on a mission to promote functional mushrooms and make wellness indulgent, currently has three functional chocolates: Brainstorm, $29, to promote focus; Happy Ending, $29, to boost arousal, and Nightcap, $29, to support sleep. At the time of launch, the brand had secured a small pre-seed investment from former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo. 

“We made a point to not over raise or overspend because we honestly had no idea what was actually going to happen once we put the product into the market. Then we launched, and everything changed,” said cofounder Lindsay Goodstein. “We were sold out only a few months into the business.” 

After about two years in business, however, the brand was ready to raise and L Catterton was an ideal partner. 

“We bonded with the team at L Catterton right away. It was one of those things that felt like a puzzle, and it became a perfect fit because not only were they right out of the gate, aligned with our vision, saw the potential for the business and saw the potential for the category as a whole, but the team that we work with at L Catterton is led by two women,” said Alice cofounder Charlotte Cruze. 

Whitney Casey, partner at L Catteron who led the deal, said in a statement: “Alice Mushrooms distinguishes itself with its innovative branding and unique product offerings that connect with a new generation of consumers. This investment aligns with our strategy to support forward-thinking companies in the VMS (vitamins, minerals, supplements) space. We look forward to partnering with Alice and supporting their mission to transform the wellness market.”

While L Catterton has had its sights set on the wellness category, most recently acquiring Naomi Watts’ menopause brand Stripes, Alice’s cap table includes several celebs. 

“We built this really cool group of people who have incredible reach, who have amazing industry experience, who are super strategic, who understand food as medicine,” said Cruze. “This came about organically. As the brand grew, we got a lot of exciting attention.” 

Efron, Hart and Pascal also recently invested in Dr. Mark Hyman’s diagnostic health platform Function. 

According to Goodstein, this raise will go toward retail expansion, product development and team growth. 

“To hint a few things, we have new formulations [and] limited-edition flavor drops of our existing chocolates,” Goodstein said. “We’ll be using our chocolate as an ingredient in collaboration with some of our favorite brands coming up.” 

Alice, which is available at Erewhon, Pop Up Grocer and other specialty retailers, has previously secured several buzzy collabs with other companies like Fleur du Mal. 

“We see it as very tactical and strategic, given that we are still creating a new category,” said Cruze. “Partnering with brands that have established reputations and that have all of this market awareness help to make mushrooms more mainstream.” 

The team hinted at a cameo on the “big screen” coming next spring. In the fourth quarter, the brand also will be revealing a national grocer and department store retail launch. According to Goodstein, the brand was in about 200 retail doors at the start of 2024 and is expected to close the year with 1,000, though direct-to-consumer has been the largest channel. 

While the brand declined to share specific sales figures or the details of the raise, the team noted the brand is on track to exceed eight figures this year and has experienced 175 percent year-over-year growth.

Level 20 Keyleth

Sssoooooo this was not a print I was planning to make.

I was thinking of possibly doing Keyleth as a painting and then I got carried away and I started listening to the Vox Machina campaign again and I fell in love with Keyleth all over again and it just kinda happened. I totally love her a normal amount guys. I took heavy inspiration from the Sideshow figure of her and was trying to go for a Level 20 version of my first design of her and I'm really happy with it.

I tried to include lots of details like each bracelet representing one of the VM members, so each time she might raise her hand, she will remember the lessons they taught her. Or the small feather engraving on one of the gold pieces.

I played around with replacing the acorn in her symbol with the Ashari symbol but in the end I couldn't do it. It was a combo of I think she fights to preserve all worthy life, not just that of her people, but the land and everyone she meets as well as getting to the original episode where I fell in love with her where she fights so hard to save everyone in Whitestone while everyone else wants to rest and man did that fire inside me was burning as bright as ever, so the acorn, meant to represent life and hope, stays.

I honestly took a lot from my original design because I was struggling with some of the lines and also. I just really love my original one too and I wanted that same feeling to pass through the two.

My Critical Role prints don't sell at all so I made this entirely for me which is nice after fighting with Star Wars art block lately and feeling I need to create SW stuff because all the audience I have on my bigger platforms all came from SW. This was nice.

What IS Epic The Musical

I WAS WAITING FOR THIS GOD DAMN MOMENT.

OKAY. BUCKLE YOUR SEATBELT ANON, BECAUSE YOU JUST UNLEASHED MY ADVERTISEMENT SIDE /HJ

According to the EPIC website, EPIC is a loose musical adaptation of Homer's Odyssey written by Jorge 'Jay' Rivera-Herrans. Jay also voices Odysseus, the main character of the musical.

It is completely sung through, consisting of 40 songs. The musical has two acts, which are then split into nine 'sagas'. There are five sagas in act one (Troy, Cyclops, Ocean, Circe and Underworld) and four in act two (Thunder, Wisdom, Vengeance, and Ithica).

As the show is still a work in progress, the songs are still being released on platforms in their entirety. As of right now, the Troy, Cyclops, and Ocean sagas have been released with the Circe saga coming sometime soon.

Jay posts consistently on platforms such as TikTok and YouTube, showing his working progress with little sneak peaks at the songs and little bits of information about each of them that really enhance the listening experience!

Plot wise, like I said, EPIC is loosely based on Homer's Odyssey. Homer was an ancient Greek poet, and he is credited for both the Odyssey and the Iliad.

The iliad is the first of the two, telling the story of the Trojan War and all that happened. The Odyssey is about the journey Odysseus and the six hundred Ithican soldiers took to return to their homeland post-war (Spoiler alert. It doesn't work out very well)

EPIC follows Odysseus as he tries so very, very hard to return to his wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus. However, every monster, God, and Goddess in the entirety of Greece and Olympus seems to have beef with this man and he struggles to get home.

He's somehow meant to be one of the most intelligent Greeks out there, cunning and clever and a brilliant soldier (so much so that Athena- Goddess of W i s d o m- decides to be his mentor) and yet he has a knack of pissing everyone off.

Anyway, the Trojan War took him away from Ithica and his family for ten years, and then EPIC follows his stupidly long and complicated journey home in the most stunning, heart-wrenching, tear jerking, awe inspiring way it can.

It's greek mythology, what isn't there to love about it.

I doooo heavily recommend it. So, so very much. So much. Jay is so very, very talented, and all of the singers in EPIC are so very talented. I think the songs are on most platforms (I'll link spotify and YouTube below). I also recommend looking at his TikTok or YouTube pages because this man is hilarious, and the process to the creation of this musical is so very interesting.

This attack strains the powersupply of the machine, and Extended Newtonian Dynamics (E.N.D. Physics) dictates that the same force is applied to the manipulator. Wear, and, in extreme cases, spontaneous and violent self-destruction of the manipulator core, may result from excessive output.

Using this weapon, as well as firing the Local Shore cannons also causes enormous physical recoil on the Splintercat. Too much for even its hexapodal form to withstand. Therefore, an integral Manipulator distributes force into the surrounding environment, usually resulting in a completely flat, compacted region of ground around the mech after a few attacks. "Local Shore" E.N.D.R Cannon 3x -Ultra-Extended Range VMD launcher. Hurls a VM Core at a target with a pre-programmed "vector storm" attack pattern that violently shears everything in range.

The E.N.D.R Cannon is capable of launching projectiles at hypersonic speeds, this means that it is essentially impossible to dodge. Anywhere on the planet is a potential target. Even Low Orbit is not entirely safe. This fact gives the ultra-range Enhanced Newtonian Dynamics Rotator Cannon its name. E.N.D.S. Shield 1x An extraordinarily heavy shield containing an E.N.D. supressor that causes a spontaneous N-Crush Reaction in any hostile E.N.D. Manipulator. This makes the LS/ARA an incredibly hard target.

1. base distro

my main desktop is artix linux; my laptop is void linux; my server is alpine linux (plus some VMs i use for development)

i am not actually the biggest systemd hater i just happen to not use it lol. i actually tried to use debian on my server at first but i couldn't get it to work with my hosting service's network for some reason, but with alpine if i did manual network setup during install it would Just Work. perhaps i can blame systemd for this

3. listening to music

i run a local mpd server and use ncmpcpp as a client, with my music library synced with syncthing. however i'm thinking i should move my music library to my server and stream from there bc my music library is taking up a shit ton of space on my phone and laptop both of which have limited storage (laptop storage is soldered on i think, and i don't think my phone storage is upgradeable either, but tbf i should double check those—in any case even if it were upgradeable that would cost Money and i shrimply don't think a massive music library synced between 3 devices is the wisest use of limited storage). so i may need to look into self-hosted music streaming solutions. although it is nice to be able to listen to music without using mobile data when i'm out and about.

19. file sync/sharing

a bit all over the place. as i said above i use syncthing for a few things but i'm increasingly moving away from that towards my nextcloud just bc if i'm syncing eg a 10GB file, there's no need for it to take up 30GB between 3 devices when i can just have it take up 10GB once on a remote server that i can access from any device only when it's needed. i am still sticking with syncthing for some things that are more sensitive so i want to reduce the number of devices it goes through: ie my keepass db, and some luks headers i have stored. also currently using a bit of a mess between syncthing and git hosting for my dotfiles but i'm trying to migrate to one chezmoi git repo since that can handle differences between devices and is much more elegant than my current glued-together scripts and git repos lol

for file sharing it's a bit all over the place. onionshare or bittorrent for some things, my own nextcloud for personal file sharing with people who can't wrap their heads around onionshare or bittorrent and just want a web browser link. i also use disroot's nextcloud instance for when i need to do the latter but not have it tied to me in any way. also sometimes i just send attachments in whatever platform we're using to communicate like just a signal attachment or something.

I made another masterdoc this time for🌶 masc on masc things.

Making a butch 4 butch master doc resource is a lot harder than you'd think and no I have not added any specific blogs except Leo, the pro writer. So no one worry about exposure I'd be curtious enough to message you first. It's mostly just artist who make nsf work, comics both free and paid, writers, sw performers and/or their studios. There's a separate encryp datalist linked within the MD to those performers non social media locations. Figured I'd add the extra level of safety as an added precaution.

That being said. If anyone does want to be added and makes often masc 4 masc content of that spicy variety on other platforms feel free to message me. I can add you most likely.

Anywho its actually been a bit of work to pull it together so I put my cash app in the doc. Not as a requirement just like tip if you want, is that a bad idea? I'm vm not hired or well off, just enjoy making lists of resources for others.

I will make a post for it later but the server is 18 preferably 21 plus ONLY.
