Learning that apparently if you don’t go to your primary care doctor often enough they stop being your primary care doctor. This is very annoying and inconvenient

Opposites attract - 500 F.C.
Characters: Asmo x gn!reader
Main Masterlist
500 followers masterlist
Requested by: Romance Anon
CW: established relationship and mentions of past sex. Very fluffy; MC loves Asmo very much
.
As far as you knew, the evening couldn’t be more perfect. The spot under the blankets wasn’t too hot or cold, both your phone and your laptop were almost fully charged up and the subtle drag of Asmo’s nails wasn’t overstimulating your skin, following the path of the veins in your arm without leaving any marks. Sometimes, he’d press the right amount and tickle you, making you shiver, and he’d let out a giggle that would die in the creases of your hoodie.
However, now that you actually thought about it, you hadn’t heard anything in a while. His weight was still right next to you and his scent filled the space inside the canopy bed, subtly blending with the roses’ aroma in a way Asmo surely had calculated; but there was no chuckle anymore.
You hoped he’d fallen asleep; because just thinking about your day together drained you. After all, your beautiful boyfriend had woken you up that morning at the crack of dawn only to spend hours dragging you from one point of town to another while stopping at the mall in between. Visiting all the different hot spots doing no more than shopping, eating the trendiest snacks and taking pictures of absolutely everything, you felt as if your body was finally falling apart piece by piece. Your muscles were sore and your joints ached, surely even a demon would be tired from all of that as well?
But of course, you were wrong.
“You know…” a soft voice said from under your chin. Apprehension twisted your guts in a knot. Nothing calm or relaxing ever came from those words. “If you wanted to play dress up, I could’ve shown you what I bought today”
“I already saw what you bought today. I was there”
“I know you were there, silly!” he laughed, not bothering to hide the sultriness in his amused tone. The mattress rustled under his movements and soon you had him kneeling by your side, looking down at you and cupping your face with both hands.
His skin was much softer than yours; always had been. And so was his hair and the edge of his fingernails. Yours had only gotten better after you started dating him and even then he still had to beg on his knees for you to accept his help. What could you say? You didn’t really understand the appeal of wasting time and money to look prim and proper.
Also, you were already attractive without any of that.
“But store light is not the same as daylight or nightlight and certainly not the same as my room light or your room light” Asmo continued talking as he climbed over you to hop off the bed but stopped with a purr when you grabbed his waist to take him right back to his previous position. “Oh, this is nice too!”
You didn’t bother to fight the impulse to roll your eyes, instead tilting the laptop’s screen urgently. At the sight of it, Asmo let out a dramatic cry and fell face-first into his silk pillow.
“MC…!”
“Honey, this is important” you argued without a hint of humour. The half-naked girl in the saturated game menu stared at the both of you with an empty-minded smile. “Our girl here needs to wear chic and glamorous for the show and we don’t have enough gems for that chiffon dress. I’m getting stressed”
“You’re getting stressed? I’m the one having a bad time here! I just offered to do a private catwalk in the comfort of my beautiful room and you just said no in favour of some ill-proportioned virtual girl!”
His voice waved, threatening to spill real tears, but you really couldn’t risk the possibility of him getting naked in front of you.
While his powers didn’t have any effect on your mind, you loved your boyfriend too much not to find him attractive at any moment. He could be wearing the most horrendous outfit and it would probably still work against you, although Asmo probably wouldn’t believe that statement. When he took care of himself it made you feel dizzy; and when he was naked?
Absolute malfunction.
“Baby, I’m being honest with you, the moment you get out of your clothes I'm gonna lose my grip on reality and if we have sex right now like we had last week I’m gonna need three to five business days to start working properly again and you know perfectly well Lucifer is not going to let me skip classes tomorrow”
That caused a few seconds of silence. You could see how your words slowly eased Asmo's hurt feelings, gently forcing a flattered smile out of him while the shimmer in his eyes went from watery to magical.
Once again you tilted the laptop's screen, leaning over to kiss the tip of the demon's nose before quickly retreating.
“Chic and glamorous, baby” you said in a singing tone while smiling coyly.
After what felt like forever, Asmo finally rolled his eyes and resumed his place under your chin, knowingly manoeuvring his body so your hand would grasp his waist in a seductive pose. With a judgemental tone, he pointed at the half-naked girl.
“And you’re going with that?”
Some things would never change, you guessed.

We were an hour away from our house—on a 7 hour trip to visit family in North Carolina—when I realized I’d left my prescription dog allergy medications behind. I have been extremely allergic to dogs my whole life—we’re talking sneezing, watery eyes, wracking coughs, and worst of all terrible wheezing—and this side of my family all have dogs.
So I was pretty pissed at myself for forgetting my medication and very worried about what I was going to do. It’s a Sunday, and urgent cares and pharmacies close early. We aren’t supposed to get into town until 6ish.
So I ended up doing a virtual appointment with a North Carolina-based urgent care center on my phone in the car, and I had them send my prescriptions to the one CVS in Charlotte that’s closing later today. And my problem is solved? We’ll pick up the medicine on our way into town, and it will take us a little out of the way, but not by much.
If I hadn’t been able to do the virtual appointment I probably would not have been able to get to an urgent care until tomorrow and probably wouldn’t have been able to get meds until mid-dayish, by which time I’d have already begun to feel pretty sick.
Anyway, small miracles happening for me over here today.

If you, or someone you love, has ever received a big stack of medical bills just because you, for example, tripped in a parking lot, this post is for you.
Even if you have excellent insurance, you might want to learn about negotiating fees and charges. MANY fees and charges can be negotiated, but you have to ask and/or talk to more than one person. You can also get better rates by shopping around or asking for "self-pay rates" when you make the appointment.
If you read nothing else here, take note of these websites:
Dollarfor.org for negotiating hospital and other medical bills
Goodrx.org for finding best prices on drugs, shots, etc.
Radiologyassist.com for finding best pricing on X-rays, MRIs, etc
https://www.upmc.com/patients.../paying-bill/services/apply for negotiating UPMC bills (hospitals, providers, etc)
https://ahnneighborhood.org/financialassistance/ for negotiating AHN bills
https://www.healthcare.gov/community-health-centers/ database of low-cost or free clinics, searchable by zip code
https://www.kff.org/statedata/ my favorite website for researching healthcare stats
The following is copied from a health researcher named Timothy Frie, whose business name is "nutritionfortrauma"
https://www.timfrie.com/
------------
"There’s an entire market of health care services that most people don’t seem to know about.
If you don’t have health insurance, you have a high-deductible insurance plan, or you just want to save money on health care costs, here’s several resources you need to know about that could save you tens of thousands of dollars and the stress of unexpected medical bills:
If you need an MRI, x-ray, CT, mammogram, ultrasound, or PET scan, check the cost and availability of RadiologyAssist.com.
You pay one single flat-fee upfront for your scan and you won’t get a bill.
If you need an imaging referral, you can request a virtual consultation for $40.
You can also ask any imaging center for the self-pay rate for the scan you need and compare that to your anticipated out-of-pocket expenses.
If you need blood work, you may be able to pay a lower cost by purchasing the tests from a direct-to-consumer provider like PrivateMD Labs, Ulta Labs, or similar.
Just google “direct to consumer lab testing.”
Personally, I’ve found these services to sometimes be 60-90% cheaper than utilizing the direct-to-consumer options from Quest or Labcorp — even though they’re often the two labs drawing and processing your sample.
You pay one single flat-fee upfront and you won’t get a bill.
If you need more frequent support and care from a primary care provider due to a chronic illness or something else, explore “direct primary care.”
This is not the same as concierge care, which tends to be more expensive in most regions.
These are practices that offer care for a single flat-fee per month that ranges between $30-$100/mo on average.
All of your office visits and most procedures are included.
If you need to visit an urgent care, ask for the self-pay rate up-front.
Many urgent care centers offer an all-inclusive flat-fee option that includes everything that you need while you’re there, excluding medication and third-party lab fees.
This cost can range between $150-$400.
If you need a prescription and it’s more affordable on GoodRx or a similar service, you can ask to pay for it without utilizing your insurance.
I’ve found that some medications are more affordable at privately-owned and operated pharmacies vs. corporate pharmacies.
If your medical debt goes to a collection agency, you can negotiate a settlement to avoid paying the entire fee and/or litigation.
There are tons of resources about this online, including organizations who will support you with this (for a fee).
ALWAYS get and review an itemized bill before paying outstanding medical debt.
You can use HSA and FSA funds to purchase some health-related and wellness products, not just services.
Just Google “HSA shop” and see what you come across.
Review your HSA/FSA restrictions yourself before purchasing anything to ensure you don’t get stuck with an unexpected bill.
In some cases, you may need a letter of medical necessity."
End of Tim Fries
===============
I decided to post this information because although I have been working in healthcare and insurance copywriting and marketing since I was 22 years old, and I knew things were bad, I was reminded just how bad / expensive / confusing the state of US healthcare is after reading story after patient story following the shooting death of the United Healthcare CEO last week.
In May, I fell and broke my arm. It was a serious fracture, both bones, one exposed, and I was in surgery within hours. The good news is my surgeon was awesome and I had zero pain during the rough first 10 weeks of recovery. I took two Tylenol and I didn't even need them.
Because it was unplanned surgery and I spent two days in the hospital, coming through the ER, I got bills from many many different providers. I work in this field so I knew what to expect but it was still a headache and confusing. Especially during a time that I was unable to tie my shoes, pull up my socks, cut my own food, drive, or risk any activity that could lead to me falling. I also had to reduce my work hours since I was typing with one hand.
I'm fine now. I had a LOT of help during the worst of it.
I hope this post reaches someone who needs to see it.

yall these last several days have been THE! WORST!!!!
or idk, not the worst lmao i tend to try to save catastrophic language for actual catastrophes these days and since nobody is dead or maimed, i guess "really really sucked" is the better way to describe it.
but anyway. it really really sucked so bad that i dont even feel like properly ranting about it, so here's a bulleted list of the suckage. -Had (probably) the flu for like two weeks. Missed two weeks of volunteering and one week of work. -Felt better! Volunteered. Went to work. -Throat got sore in the middle of the night. like i literally FELT it get sore in real time. felt it swell. -Sore throat morphed to include an ear ache. -Also felt nauseous several times throughout the day. -went with my mom to go pick up groceries and also one single item to hopefully expedite my recovery (those lil emergen-c supplement drink packets) and somehow wound up getting yelled at about what an inconvenience it is to ~have~ to make a 20 minute round trip to pick up groceries that included something for me🙃 i literally would have just done an instacart order like i usually do but we already needed groceries and that is the only reason i put it in the grocery order so i guess that somehow means that its My Fault the household needed groceries and i guess a 20 minute trip is the worst fucking thing a person can be bothered to do on a sunday afternoon. i mean nevermind the asparagus and the yellow squash and the cornbread mix and the condensed milk and the walnuts and the clam strips and the bananas and the whole grain cereal and the canned vegetables and the frozen berries and all the other shit that aint have JACK to do with me, bc my vitamin c supplement made all of that moot and the sole reason for going to get groceries was because im a needy piece of shit whose better off idk dying of meningitis or soemthing, idfk.
-had a virtual ~urgent care~ visit. got prescribed antibiotics for what's probably a sinus infection gone nuclear. that was yesterday.
-today! throat still hurt like a bitch. couldn't really eat or drink much but I had an apple and some water before taking a dose of ibuprofen.
-went to work. started getting a migraine on the way. benadryl often takes the edge off of my migraines so my dad (who was giving me a ride to work) agreed to swing by a store and pick some up after dropping me off at work, and then swing back and bring me the meds.
-HOWEVER! you know what the first thing i did upon pulling into the parking lot at work was?
-puke. A LOT. big ol pile of puke in the parking lot. disgusting.
-called the front desk and let them know that i in fact made it to work but that i just vomited my guts out in the parking lot and should probably go home. they were like, "yikes, yeah, definitely go home, please feel better soon" and canceled all my students for the day. I'm Extra Upset by this bit because 2 of my students have missed a lot of lessons recently (one because they were on vacation, another because there were no lessons on 4th of july, another because a different student canceled, and one because i was sick) and i really really really want to keep as much consistency as possible both for the student's progression, and for increasing my chances that they'll keep me as a teacher. and i also had one new adult student that i saw for the first time last week and am super bummed that i already had to throw a wrench in his new experience learning an instrument.
anyway,
-throat was still hurting like a BITCH and i obviously needed to eat and drink especially since i THREW THE HELL UP EARLIER so i made another virtual urgent care appointment.
-got through the entire intake process as far as submitting all the forms. all that was left was for someone to call me and confirm all the info.
-i get the call! confirm the info! the lady says she'll send me a link to the visit as soon as we hang up.
-BUT THEN she asks me if i'd had a virtual visit the day before for the same reason, and i said yeah! and then she says! that i can't have a virtual visit because blah blah blah they cant do telehealth appointments for one patient for the same reason in less than 7 days! which like! ok i guess but PERHAPS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN POINTED OUT WHEN I SELECTED THE REASON IN THE INTAKE FORMS 15 MINUTES AGO???
-but whatever! okay fine! so i made an appointment for the in person clinic and was able to be seen relatively quickly.
-everybody was super nice (literally all of the medical people i've dealt with over the last two days have been super nice) and one of the desk ladies told me i have a "really sweet voice" and that made me Happyyyy and so i told her how happy it made me and that it meant an extra lot because i used to have a violin teacher who would tell me my voice was annoying and the lady was like "omg wtf" and i was like "i know right? i was like 13" and she's like "daaaaang wtf!' and im like RIGHT???
-even though i was able to be seen relatively quickly it still took kind of a long time for the nurse practitioner herself to get to me, but once she did, it was smooth sailing from there. covid, flu, and strep tests were negative. prescribed me prednisone for the sore throat. took my first dose in the clinic. picking up the rest of it from a pharmacy tomorrow.
-its now 3am as i type this and my throat is feeling significantly better. took my 3rd dose of antibiotics earlier tonight, along with some tylenol, since apparently ibuprofen can have some reactions with prednisone, and since my throat at that moment was still pretty sore. but i think by now i can finally EAT SOMETHING so thats what imma do, and then imma *samuel l jackson voice* Go The Fuck To Sleep.

Cancer Care: Impact of Telemedicine on Positive Health Outcome
Tumblr media
We have all been through tough times, especially during the pandemic, and we have all realized the importance of telehealth services. By sitting in our homes, we could get all the services we want, be it for COVID-19 or cancer. Having telehealth and telemedicine services was a blessing in disguise during those tough years.
The National Cancer Institute researched the number of telehealth visits during the pandemic. The finding was based on the analysis of 25,500 telehealth visits. Out of this, more than 11,600 were diagnosed with cancer. They were getting telehealth services and were virtually consulting the clinicians. This shows that there has been an increase in the number of people who have started trusting telemedicine services.
In this article, we will be discussing the positive health outcomes of telemedicine services. However, there are some important things to consider as well. For instance, there are things you need to discuss before receiving telemedicine services. This includes scheduling an appointment and explaining the necessary in-person hospital visits, medication follow-ups, and post-treatment care.
Discussing all these can help individuals get relief from long waiting hours just to schedule their appointments or visit a doctor. During the virtual consultations, the individual also needs to understand and discuss the care plans. Both the doctors and the individuals should be informed about the diagnosis date, tumor stage, schedules, treatment facilities, nutrition, pain management, and health concerns.
Tumblr media
Thanks to telemedicine services, no one today has to wait for longer hours and get help anytime they want. You can get professional help with a single tap all at once. Therefore, all you need to do is book your schedule.
If you are diagnosed with a terminal illness, telehealth appointments can save you time and money. In the following, we are going to look at some points to discuss how telemedicine services can help individuals diagnosed with cancer. These points will provide insight into how the healthcare industry has revolutionized faster.
Unlocking the Benefits of Telemedicine Services for Cancer Care
Living with a loved one diagnosed with cancer can turn life upside down. Treatment costs can vary depending on the type of care needed. Be it medications or a cancer care management plan, you just need the right kind of treatment that may cost money. Forget about the expenses related to travel and other medications.
That’s why telehealth services are introduced to help out loved ones with cancer care. In the following, let’s take a look at the numerous benefits of telemedicine services for people diagnosed with cancer.
Tumblr media
Meeting Specialized Oncologist
Comprehensive care is needed in the healthcare industry. With an introduction to the telephonic healthcare industry, you get to meet the right specialized doctor for your treatment virtually. There is no need to travel long distances just to meet the doctor. Tap on the screen, get connected to a specialized oncologist virtually, and get help with medical appointments. Due to long waiting hours, there are times when individuals have to wait to get in touch with special care. Telehealth appointments with specialized healthcare professionals get easier.
Reduce Travel Time
There are times when individuals diagnosed with terminal illnesses have difficulty traveling to healthcare providers. They need enough rest and travel restrictions because of the drastic impact on their health. They may get car sickness or have chronic pain due to illnesses. However, with telehealth urgent care, time travel is reduced to some extent. The individual can get help anytime because specialized care is available and they don’t have to travel long hours. The specialized oncologists are here to help the individuals right away with treatment and care.
Regular Health Monitoring
Chronic illnesses can cause several health issues that have long-term effects. That’s why one needs regular health monitoring. However, going to medical institutions can be time-consuming and have a drastic effect on your health. The doctors keep tabs on the vital signs and the symptoms evolving because of the illnesses. That’s why telemedicine appointments can help you a great deal to check on the health of a loved one.
Getting Timely Consultations

I've thought about this issue a lot, and determined the only way healthcare costs are going to go down is if technocracy reduces the cost of medical exams.
So what we're going to need is to be able to pinpoint every conceivable test a doctor or specialist practicioner can possibly provide, from X-ray scans to eye exams to urine analysis and spit and blood, and make them some sort of infinitely repeatably, solid state, laser based scan system that can cost pennies per test.
And then find a way to make that equipment just a few thousand dollars.
This way you could look for everything from broken bones to kidney stones, immature masses of metastic cells and parasites, inside or out, spending a minimum amount of money to get your problem diagnosed in very short amounts of time, not clog up doctors offices in waiting rooms (freeing them up for more urgent care problems), and even isolate at home and still receive doctors visits. That alone would save wear and tear on medical staff as well as save patients thousands upon thousands of dollars, both from not getting a bunch of outdated equipment scans that tell next to nothing and the hospital is reluctant to do due to time, technician cost and how expensive the equipment was to get in the first place.
So with the help of artificial inteligence purely to sample millions of examples of a thing and proper pattern recognition software, one could have a scanning tech that notices certain things and zeroes in on them. A decide that can sample a patient's DNA and find problems with it, for cheap, would determine everything from a congenital allale problem, to if the subject has had a stomach full of radioactive polonium circa our Russian friends meddling.
Such a device would reduce healthcare use by so much that it would improve survival outcomes as everybody now has virtually free (after the investment equal to that of a personal computer) ways to assess their own health, like pregnancy tests and urine tests today, and catch issues when they're premature, rather than ignore them and worry about them and hope for your own financial future that they go away on their own. Now only people with bonafide anomalies that they can't medicate themselves go to the doctor.
Pharmacology is its own thing, but my thoughts on how this problem could be tackled are thus: Make a drive to improve the equipment used in the industry to become better and cheaper, and affordable to more smaller, hungry startup companies, and a system so they can compete with the multi-billionaire megaconglomerates. This way, the minimum level for entry is a bar accessible by smaller fish, and those smaller companies can both formulate, test and produce experimental drugs and medicines of their own, without the overhead required for multi-billion dollar inventory just to be able to function. More kitchens and more chefs to occupy them, means you get more baked goods in the same amount of time. Even if many of them wind up being duds and only one rises to popularity and excellence. Still, carrying high quality assessments and standards for safety and performance. There'd just be more entries and less patent trolling.
And then we come to surgery. I'm not super on board with programmed robots performing surgery via instructions, however, we should develop a system by which surgeons learn to operate extremely precise machines over long distances via fiber optic intranet, doing tele-operative surgery. This way you could have more people operating shoulder to shoulder to see to the patient's needs, and the surgeons would be able to instantly be there without the fuss of travel or risk involved. That means, more potential surgeries in a year, less transport for the patient, more thorough and safer surgeries and less malpractice suits. Less risk for the patient or surgeon, easier surgery. The service suddenly becomes more convenient.
Then we simply need to develop medical schools that would allow us to expand the pool of whom can be doctors, specialists and surgeons. Simply put, we need healthcare. It is in society's interests to hire people to teach others to do it, for cheap, and cultivate a system by which said new medical people can excel and graduate and perform. With more of them looking for their own niche and profits, and more availability for them, they could bring down the price of medicine by making it more possible for them to compete, rather than being landlocked to hospitals which can conspire to be extremely expensive islands that don't offer good healthcare costs per dollar. It would therefore be in the medical staff's interests to be cheaper.
And as medical school suddenly stops being tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars in a cost sink to the prospective individual, there's now far less reason to justify them charging hundreds of dollars to the low end user. They can afford to "settle" for just making six figures a year and practically only investing their time, sensibilities and willingness to be in the medical field, while still meeting the same minimum standards of performance criteria that professional doctors and surgeons do. With more able to get in there, compete and undercut and tele-operate anywhere in a given country (or even internationally, with the right arrangement) you'd have less justification to pay doctors like CEOs of multimillion dollar companies.
It would still be a fairly ridiculous wage compared to pipe fitting or welding, but a far cry from "work a year and buy a house" of today.
So suddenly the public cost of healthcare, malpractice and surgery plummets from hundreds of billions a year, to a trickle of hundreds of thousands.
