Vriska is transmasc to me.. my most scalding take as it invited 1. Vriscourse 2. Bio essentialists and 3. Transphobes But Only Towards Transmascs to my askbox

Gotta love how much transmisandry is in the Homestuck fandom. But it makes sense when you look at how the teams have treated transmasc characters. One is a manipulative jackass and another gets locked in the plot box until there's no excuse not to use him. Fandom needs more transmasc headcanons where the character is onscreen and important, and not contributing to the cycle of cuckery or being an ass.

i loved vriska a whole lot when i first read homestuck, but i can't help just feel tired of seeing her, specially in official content. it seriously feels like she's overstaying her protagonism for several years now even compared to the human characters who are supposed to be the most important. doesnt really help that official vriska has been ooc since forever (tbh who isnt) and even when acknowledging that she did stuff wrong is a whole dance of still trying to make her the hero/victim in the end. i always felt like vriska's journey shouldve been allowing herself to be brought down a peg and let others also take the role of the hero/leader instead of wanting to be in the center of everything, she is great, but others are great too and she often devalues them to put herself on the front which is why she failed at the end, the fact she isn't perfect. i would love to see vriska being vulnerable in the way that she realizes how much harm shes done to others and not just herself, for her to wholeheartedly admit she was wrong and she wants to learn to be a real hero and stop following her previous ideas. but like, we're probably never gonna get that at this point, vriska will never apologize to people like tavros or kanaya, and maybe she will apologize to terezi but it will only be for them to end up in a relationship instead of actually realizing how negative her presence was in her life and that she doesn't even deserve to be back on it, it's all just "feel bad for her already so we can have our redemption pay off".

Being someone that doesn't particularly like Vriska(mostly in hivebent) is hard because I have to defend her from the absolute abysmal bad faith takes on her. I don't even like her and even I know she's not a terrible, irredeemable character.

It's maddening. Vriscourse is a plague.

She's fine. She's a complicated female character and her troubles are explored in canon. She is a net positive to the story.

She is there to show you that being a troll sucks. She's literally the character that does being a troll the best and it ruined her relationships. She is personally hurt by her attempts to uphold alternian values. She fucking feels remorse for killing Tavros ffs. That's the whole last conversation she has with the protagonist before dying.

Looking back at homestuck and specifically Vriska

I think as a preteen at the time, I misinterpreted a lot about her character in seeing things in them that I saw and hated in myself. I'm afab, and I have a dominant personality, I get ahead of myself a lot and I can come off as bitchy.

I by no means consider Vriska someone redeemable now, but back then I think I projected my own feelings on them a lot the pressure of living up to family expectations, the wierd dark supposed family lore that I was incouraged to look up to, the getting ahead of myself and taking control in situations I really shouldn't have put my nose in then regretting it when it all crashed and burned.

I feel like a lot of afab characters with dominant personalities fall into this weird bully troupe that can be seen in quite a few things.

Vriska is the absolute worst case of the bully troupe, but it's been seen in a lot of media, especially within kids media in the 90s and 2000s. I think there's something bigger to be said about afab people with dominant personalities and how media portrayal is just reestablishing a sexist stereotype about afab individuals who take charge.
