I adore this place.. it might be my favorite place in the world. It’s such a gem. So many beautiful things to see and do. I never have enough time to see it all. Maybe I should just move here 🤔

My brain has concocted a very niche idea: House MD winter guard show (except also I have a Hilson agenda)

• The track would be Teardrop with clips from the show mixed in.

• It would focus on the heart vs. mind dynamic between House and Wilson.

• All of the characters would be played by different guard members at different times, (see Promethean, Carolina Crown 2024 DCI) but they’d all consistently be played by either a heart or mind.

• The hearts would be Wilson, Cuddy, Cameron, and Chase.

• The minds would be House and Foreman.

• The costumes would be black leotards with red detailing, the show would start with lab coats on top and there would be a costume reveal halfway through the show. The makeup would be a nude smokey eye with a red lip.

• Half the guard would represent House. Their hair styles would all have a very distinct part and the roots would be sprayed red to represent the brain, they would have the nervous system outlined in red on their leotards. They would focus on dance and rifle.

• The other half would represent Wilson. Their hair would be down with no distinct part to contrast the House members hair. Their leotards would have hearts and the cardio vascular system. They would focus on flag and saber.

• Throughout the show the House members work would include a lot of use rifles and sabres like canes.

• The first minute of Teardrop before the words come in would be a dance phrase.

• Each mind would have a heart, this would be their partner for the whole show. They would break apart and do stuff alone or with other partners or as an ensemble, but these pairs would always come back together like House and Wilson.

• If there was an uneven number of members, the extra member would be a House. They’d fall would hide behind the prop or have a dance solo whenever the minds and hearts come together.

• The House members would keep all of their weight on their left leg, using their right to do kicks and stuff. Throughout the phrase they would try to put weight on their right leg and grab their thigh as if it hurts. After the phrase they’d break off into half of them remaining dancers and half going to a rifle line.

• The Wilson members would dance around the House members for the first 30 seconds or so, before splitting off into a saber line.

• One mind (House) would start dancing across the floor from the back corner of the floor. They would be followed by 2 hearts and a mind (Cameron, Chase, and Foreman) who would lift House about half ways through the floor.

• House could possibly switch the lab coat for a blazer and could have an actual cane prop. If there is an uneven number, the extra House could play House in this scene.

• They would carry him the rest of the way to the front corner of the floor, where a heart (Cuddy) would be waiting. Cuddy would hit house over the head and shake her head disapprovingly, they would then run to rejoin the ensemble.

• About halfway through, the mind and heart partners would meet. They would waltz (see Crown, Independence Highschool 2024 SCGC) and this is when they’d lose the lab coats.

• At the end of the waltzing phrase, the House members would put too much weight on their right leg. They’d fall to the ground gripping their thigh in pain and send their Wilson’s away.

• The Wilson’s would pick up and take all the lab coats behind a prop, only the Houses would be left on the floor and they’d have a short advanced flag phrase with Vicodin bottle flags.

• At the end the House’s and Wilson’s come back together a final time. They could starts with equipment but they’d very tail end would be them dancing together. The show would end with them posed together.

• If there is an uneven number, the extra House would have a solo. They’d spin a cane in the front middle of the floor.

• For a smaller guard, I’d want to do every pair poses differently. For a bigger one, the guard would be split into 4 groups and the poses would be staggered.

• The poses would be the hearts and minds leaning on each other. This would juxtapose the rest of the show, where House is leaning on Wilson.

single and a half

yesterday my indoor percussion group got first place with a score of 85.45 :) it’s so crazy because the other two groups we competed against have been doing this for years and years. Our instructor competed against them in high school, with the same show we are doing this year! And it’s crazy because he got third his year and now he gets to see it have first place. And this is only our third year doing it (second actually competing!)

black eagles if they were in winterguard

hi im a guard nerd so here are all of the black eagles if they were in winterguard please enjoy edelgard - guard captain. been doin it the longest out of everyone. probably the best at rifle but has a soft spot for sabre. dorothea helps her with flag a lot, it's her weakest point. she likes dznce but always gets put on weapon because she's the goat.

hubert - this man is a sabre god. any sort of sabre solo goes straight to him and nobody complains! he joined a year after edelgard but picked things up rather quickly (and nobody was surprised)

dorothea - dance line section leader. she's new to guard and is still a little scared of the flag so she chose to be in danceline because she knows she is a good dancer. she wants to be on weapon one day...but staying on flag won't hurt.

ferdinand - co-captain, joined a year after hubert, but quickly rose the ranks! he's constantly trying to improve (one-up edelgard) and his dedication to the activity is really motivating to see. he really tries his best to bring in some new blood every year, this team means a lot to him. caspar - huck and chuck king. he cannot, for the life of him, get any sort of consistent good technique. rifle section leader because he can toss an 8 like it's a single. he never drops. it's a miracle. he's great at what he does, but it's very hit or miss on if it looks...good.

linhardt - flagline section leader (somehow). unlike caspar, he is the most technical person in the team. he lacks a lot of upper arm strength so he can't toss very high but if he really really tries (he doesn't) he can toss a double 45. gives zero energy...sigh.

petra - she's very good at trick tosses and giving loads of energy. a lot of flag solos go to her because she is so bomb. her favorite toss is a double sunshine/rainbow/cradle/one-handed 45 sit roll. she turned down the section leader position because she wanted to get at least 1 more year before she tried leadership.

bernadetta - the newest member of the group and it shows...she's not great so she sticks with dorothea and linhardt a lot so she can learn from them. it's very obvious that she's trying though, which is always great! they would be a world class guard whose shows tend to be incredibly abstract and conceptual. if/when you find the meaning it brings it to a whole new level. they're big on design and effect. if i had to compare them to an independent group it would be etude! blue lions will be next!

Binding methods for competitive dance?

(Costume top is lined spandex and sleevemess and I'm a 32DDD) Wanted to try tape but I'm worried have too much boob? A good compressions sports bra brand recs also is slay. But really excited to serve masc this season so any help is so much appreciated!!!

I usually don't bind at all or use little clothing illusions when I'm feeling masc bc I have massive booba. this season I asked for the men's costume/uniform and would love any reliable binding ideas pease. Also this is for winterguard specifically but low key rlly niche

I had a great time hanging out with my friends at the Vintage Grand Prix weekend at WGI. I got plenty of track time too! Tho unfortunately I may have broke my car. Seems turbo related. I really won’t know until I get it home. Then I can rip into it. But overall it was a blast!

SHORT HIATUS!!!

Hello! Apologies for the inactivity for the past couple of days, it’s been a SUPER busy April for me! And of course, it’s about to get even busier!

That’s why I am announcing today that I will be taking a short hiatus from this blog for a very important reason: I Will Be Attending WGI FINALS FOR INDOOR PERCUSSION IN DAYTON!!!

The percussion group I’m in have been working their asses off to get our show to the level of clarity and quality we need it to be at, and we are all super excited to be taking this show to the finals!!! I will be abroad from Tuesday, April 16th to Tuesday, April 23rd, and intend to put all of my time and energy into performing our very best, so I won’t have any time to post new things for this blog. However, I thought I’d share this with you guys since it is sorta related to marching band :) Thank you all for your wonderful support on my first 3 posts to this blog! I can’t wait to see what I do with it in the near future :)

I’ll see you all in a week! And hey if you’re attending WGI too, come say hi! I don’t bite!

fusion coming in first? ETUDE COMING IN SECOND??? blessed sacrament only coming in third because paramount got a .10 penalty???? like that is actually crazy

personally as much as i loved fusion this year it didn’t seem like a gold medal show? meanwhile sac and paramount’s were crafted so well i’m amazed neither of them came in AT LEAST 2nd.

Listen I know that time passes and trends change especially in niche activities but why are so many indoor drum line shows so boring now. It used to be throwing cymbals and climbing on cages and that one year stryke did a king kong show??? Bring that shit back yall im begging wgi groups to be fun again
